I just got this phone 2 days ago, it's t-mo branded, says Samsung galaxy S II Android 4g when it boots. Yet looking at some of the pics in this thread, my phone doesn't look like the ones depicted.
How do I tell which phone I have exactly?
Thanks.

This forum is for the international version which is different from the carrier versions, you can check in settings>about phone and it should tell you your exact model number, you can then google it to get more info about your specific device
Like the original Galaxy S, there's over 9000 different variations based on each carrier. This is the forum for the international S2

Well, instead of asking strangers, since it's a T-Mobile phone you could have gone here:
http://galaxy-s.t-mobile.com/samsun...zygt*VAygtzlw*VyBpAgf+mA55Byf*VyBpAgf+mA55Byf
Or, you could have put "Galaxy S II" in the nifty "find your device" box in the upper right hand corner of the forum. You'd have found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1329
Thank you all. I'm not new around here, but again thank you for the information.

Your Tapatalk says you have the T-Mobile T989, which is a Galaxy S2 in name only. (It's a Samsung, it has a sAMOLED+ screen, but nothing else in that phone has anything in common with any other S2.)
There's a T989-specific forum if you go to the main XDA forum page and search the page for T989.
I got my phone through T-Mobile. Came via UPS.

T989 is T-Mobile version of the Gs2 family. your screen should be 4.5' instead of 4.3' and more rounded shape

And the T989 is the one variant I know of that doesn't have an Exynos - it has a Snapdragon CPU instead.

Hey guys, so I got an amazing deal that i just can't pass up: int'l note plus $25 for my white tmo gs2. I just have some questions though.
Do you guys think that it is worth it. not the value (i kno its a great deal) btu i'm talking performance.
Will i get 4g or just edge?
Thanks for your help
You'll only get edge until T-Mobile refarms the 1900MHz band. There's a dev called bedwa who is working on unlocking the 1700MHz band. Yes, it has it but Samsung has it locked up. The phone has the same modem as the Galaxy Nexus which is pentaband.

I personally think the phone is a bit too big but not a bad upgrade. I would do it for only $25 but no edge.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I think he's getting 25 so he's coming up even more! I would sell it and get the gs2 again lol
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Yep I'm getting the $25. I'd like to hear more about the band unlcok thing. Anyone have more info on that? The main thing I am excited for though is that it has like 5 ics roms

Wish I could. I would do it in a heart beat if I had that offer. I wish it was on T-Mobile.

If this works out, I'll most likely ditch the Galaxy Nexus. There's plenty of people who'll call foul for wanting to move over to an "inferior" device but I'd love more screen real estate with increased battery life.

I have both the t989 sgs2 and the international note on T-Mobile. You will most definitely get edge speeds. I suggest u switch to at&t or a prepaid carrier who uses at&t network such as straight talk or red pocket mobile

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
If I dont like the note, then I will probably trade it in Craigslist for gnex plus cash. But the note has the exynos chip set at 1.4 ghz while the nexus is ti omap at 1.2 I have used the nexus and found it to be quite laggy and the screen did nit look that much bigger than the gs2 I currently have. Plus the note already has ics roms

Just picked it up and I have to say that I miss the gs2. I got the phone rooted with a from with some bugs so I guess that I will have to put it on stock adlnd then give the phone another chance. Love the screen though

Theres not much of a difference between our phone and the Note other than the screen. Hardware stuff of course but still running the same stuff.

And 100% likely to get ICS way before the T989.

Way before of course
The only thing stopping me from getting the note is no 4G on tmobile. Once you're used to 4G, there's no used to going back to 56k aka edge

Why make so many variants of gs2?Do anyone actually buys non amoled gs2 versions? The cant be making profit on them,do samsung makes them just to let people know that they can?lol

Except that's a prototype with a generic case to hide what the real phone will look like. Whether or not that's the GS3 or another variant is still up in the air but what's for sure...is no retail phone will look exactly like that.

the Nexus is still a great phone, and it will probably be getting Jellybean in 2 days. however it is not as good compared to the EVO 4G in terms of specs. its really upto you. try out the nexus and see what it is like for you and for the day to day activities you do with your phones.

People can tell you all you want. But in the end it is ultimately your decision.
Conclude if you want it or not. No one is going to beg you to trade it or not to trade it.
Let's be honest.
You post this thread on Galaxy Nexus forums
- You get responses to trade it.. "get the galaxy nexus" (I myself included)
You post on this thread on EVO LTE forums.
- Tells you to keep it.... let me guess they told you not to... because of "specs"
Conclude for your own.... both phones are great.
Want the newest and latest in terms of software? Get the Galaxy Nexus. It'll always have the latest (unsure about its LTE variants because its controlled by carriers, but GSM version is free of that). Jelly Bean is around the corner, HTC will take awhile to update their phones.
Sure you can get custom ROMs but it's just not the same. Especially when it comes to open source drivers etc etc etc etc [read this on your own, not here to lecture about OTAs]

Agreed. Personally I don't like sense but yes the Evo has better specs. My last phone was the epic with touchwiz which was OK but after running cm9 on that I'm very happy coming to the gnex. Really what's more important to you. But if someone tried to trade me for the evo I would definitely say no.

I got some problem with AOKP if u want to root: gps signal fail, 3G, H just crash every time.

one of a seller want to sale his mobile.. but he doesnt know how to check his mobile model no, i told him many ways.. Actually i found him from a website named OLX which is familier in India for sale and buy.. he as written in OLX website as he own a mobile new brand clean with no single scratches GALAXY NEXUS.. he advertised as GALAXY NEXUS... bt i know many user frm india as no idea wat is galaxy nexus s and galaxy nexus ..
when i ask him abt model no he sais its i9259xwkl2.. what mobile model is it ?? is that international GALXY NEXUS or verison or sprint ??
Bump it up ... need an answer
i9259xwkl2 does not exist so far as I can tell. It's more likely i9250xwkl2. i9250 is the GSM Galaxy Nexus. Try searching for the model # for more info.

Hi all,
Since the Galaxy S3 has now been released on TMOUS, can the setup/framework/etc be ported onto the GSM Galaxy Nexus?
Is that a reasonable expectation?
There is a lot of FUD going around about how the wifi calling is device-specific and cannot be ported to any device.
I can understand that to a certain extent but the S3 and Galaxy Nexus have a lot of similar innards from what I understand so I wanted to revisit the situation.
Short answer: no because of the ril.

This actually isn't relevant anymore. Since T-Mobile switched to IMS it no longer requires custom IRL/Kernel to authenticate over GAN.
IMS has already been open sourced: see imsdroid or andoird-ims
This should/could be supported in any current version of Android if someone took the time to figure this out and hand the know-how to do so.
Unfortunately, I am not that person, but I think this could be realized considering the information available.
I have confirmed with T-Mobile that this requires an IMS SIM card, which they have just shipped to me for free (Arrives Friday). Other than that, it should be handled at the application level.
This may be of some use to someone:
