I have a note 2 4G N7105 and have rooted the phone.
The counter is already 2 and was wondering if i install a custom rom can i then run triangle away to reset counter without messing up rom?
Cheers
Yes, you need to download the stock modified bootloader and reset it with triangle away. However, your phone will still see the rom as custom.
Having no modified counter, but a custom rom it's pointless!!

Can you help me dr.ketan.
I really need to know exactly what to do with triangle away on the note 2 please?
OMG
Ok with CWM you can't reset it unless you have supporting kernel and play store version of Triangle away
Simple way is flash stock recovery and kernel (if you have stock) then use triangle away to rest counter.

stock recovery and kernel?
Do you mean backup of the phone in its original state?
I have play store version of triangle away but unsure of the other part.
Which ROM you have flashed last?
N7105zhali5 - 4.1.1
can you add thread link?

On 4.1.1 Oct 12 the 5th one down
N7105ZHALJ4
OMG, you having older ROM, which have SDS bug, and it can brick your device any time.
Just follow steps as soon as possible, i am updating here in 5 min
Edit :
1.Download this latest ROM from hongkong.
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/197140824/cf75403/N7105ZHDMB1_N7105ZZHDMB1_TGY.zip.html
OR you can download any other ROM but only released in 2013
2.Extract ROM and flash using Odin. If after flashing it stuck at samsung logo, just reboot to recovery and wipe cache and data
3.Root with method 1 in guide post #2
4.Use triangle away to reset counter
5.Hope everything will be fine, and stay away from these flahing stuff untill you have complete knowledge about it.
Thanks mate will do.
Should I then back up efs again?
I was also going to flash clean rom as my custom rom will I be able to do this using cwm?
You already backup, then no need to repeat. just keep backup file at safe place on PC/Laptop or other safe media
---------- Post added at 12:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:45 PM ----------
Remember after reseting counter, once reboot device normally and then check counter in download mode, not with Triangle away application itself.
Ok sure.
But if I use option 1 in your thread to root it says I cant install custom roms from zip using cwm.
I have the s3 and do it that way.
Man if you want to use CWM then forget reseting counter.
OR find a custom kernel which support reseting counter on every boot.
---------- Post added at 12:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 PM ----------
On your S3
reboot device to download mode with combo of three button (vol down + home + power) then volume up to enter in download mode
Here you can see custom binary count in Rt upper corner, check it is 'No'
If you reboot to download mode with some short cut, yu can't see flash counter.
Ok if I choose option 2 and install custom rom is there still a way to use triangle away to reset counter if I need it for warranty?
No, having CWM itself will void warranty.
before sending to warranty you needs to replace with stock one.

You can only get the samsung/Kies update if you have the stock rom and erhaps even set the system status to normal using triangle away. You must use Odin and flash the stock rom through your pc.

To answer your question, you cannot reset the flash counter from download mode. What did you do to make you think you bricked your phone?

If you want to reset your phone back to factory stock with the counter being at zero, Odin back to ICS (root 66) then use Triangle Away (You can find it somewhere in the forums). Afterwards, check for system update so you could update the firmware to JB or you could just Odin Stock JB.

i tried updating jb it didnt work said failed. I am used triangle away and am now trying ota rootkeeper and i temp am unrooted hoping this works. if it doesnt where do i get stock JB? and do you reccomend a rom?
Don't worry about keeping root. Just reflash SuperUser/SuperSU with CWM/TWRP. If you lose your recovery, reflash it with Odin. Don't use TriangleAway until you're done messing around with the phone.
For roms, if you want TW, I would pick FrostyJB or AeonFluxx. I personally don't use TW roms, but if I did, it would be one of those. I like those two because they don't have a thousand unnecessary mods (imo). The developer's taste will invariably be different than mine. For AOSP, CyanogenMod 10.1, my personal favorite. Been using 10-10.1 for months. All available on these forums. But for reference, stock roms can be found here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=SGH-T999&pcode=TMB&os=1&type=1#firmware or mrRobinson's pre-rooted stock.

I said "look in to it", what I mean is that sam mobile say that if your upgrading stock make sure you DO tick the box but all the guides on here say avoid and DONT tick the box. Ive just flashed a rom with odin and did NOT tick the box but it was a dmg rom. I would not have thought the 4.3 roms need to alter any partition sizes so try it without repartitioning and if it has issues maybe try it with a repartition.

Are you running stock? A custom rom? Jave you flashed a stock image? If you have flashed a stock image and its not tje correct one then this could be why it wont update. Try flashing a stock 412 image from the carrier that provided the phone or just go straiight for the 4.3 image, getting stock 4.3 installed on your phone will activate the efuse with knox and you wont be able to downgrade after

My counter was set to 2 so I triangled away and turned off then flashed stock rom (pre rooted) and the counter was set to 1 but other bits had changed to official. I triangled away again with the new stock rom and recovery and triangle away worked this time, rebooting the phone which it didnt do before (I think) and when it rebooted it loaded a new screen id not seen before (in other words this time it was working properly - cant work correctly on custom roms I guess) after this time it reset everything properly. The option it gave me after it had reset the counters properly it gave me 2 options, 1 reboot, or 2 reboot into download mode which I chose no2. In download mode there were no counters or text or anything but after another reboot and then back into download mode the markers and counter were there all reset hope thats not too unclear :/
Oh dunno if rooting would cause that issue or not but maybe try unrooting before ota. The ota on my stock rom just searches and doesnt do anything. Upgrading to official 4.3 though I cannit recommend, I was going to upgrade to official 4.3 but I am not now, you cannot downgrade and my friend has a s4 and has upgraded his to official 4.3 mk9 (hes never rooted or anything that may tamoer with warranty) and hes quite annoyed with it, prooer laggy etc he wishes he hadnt bothered. This is the thread I used. I chose the dmg1 from july 13th, I couldn't install an earlier one without messing with the bootloader because ive already upgraded to dmg. i believe I chose the deodexed option
Tbh mate, ive ran 4.3 for a bit and apart from a few small cosmetic changes theres nothing there thats going to improve your phone so unless your buying a Galaxy Gear theres no real point to it imo. Kitkat wont be long, ill give that a go when it turns up
Oh yeah and triangle away is riskey - you could brick your phone so unless your actually sending it back, I wouldn't bother about the counter numbers

Do you have stock recovery? If you have custom recovery that will cause the counter to hit 1

You may need a knox free kernal, not sure. You can use Dr Ketans multitool v6 to root and remove knox if you have a custom recovery, or you can install the Xposed Installer (apk file) http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer and then install 'wanam xposed' from the module list. Click to remove knox in the security section of wanam module but i fear that option is just a cosmetic one. If you decide to use a custom recovery, use philz recovery (flash the tar file from odin using the pda tab) but dont flash v6 (has issues), use v5.15

Delete or rename two files

I dont have root to delet those two files. And could you expand on the root66 and oding thing?
Root66 firmware is in my thread in development section, link in my sig. Youll find instructions for Odin there and all over the place with a quick search and from the sticky threads. Not being rude, just don't like redoing what's already out there. If you have any specific questions about the process, ill be happy to answer them.

Click the root66 heading to go to the thread if you want more info about it.

Ok so i have root and installed twrp recovery the latest one and it worked. I have root and a recovery . So can i go ahaed and flash a rom and kernel now without any repercussions?
Flashing any recovery or kernel trips the warranty bit. No way around that and no way to reset it I'm sorry to say. Since you've flashed recovery its likely tripped already so flashing kernels and roms won't make any difference anymore. The binary counter doesn't matter as its easily reset. But if you have a custom kernel or recovery it'll retrip to 1 every time you boot.

I dont care for warranty or counter trip than. So i guess my final question is can i flash any roms including 4.2 and kitkat and above without bricking my phone?
You can flash Any of these roms via Custom Recovery TWRP and you will do fine.
Do note, some people have mentioned that with a 4.2.x or 4.1.x Roms, sometimes their IMEI goes missing. So take a Nandroid and EFS Backup before hand.

IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just dont know how to remove these soft keys i dont like them NVM GOT IT
Perseus mentioned the nv (efs) backup before. Easiest way to protect yourself is open a terminal emulator and enter this.
su
reboot nvbackup
Device will reboot and create an internal, hidden backup of your nv data. I highly suggest doing this.

How did you do that??
---------- Post added at 07:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:32 PM ----------
If you mean you made a nandroid backup, that is completely different and does not include any of the NV data. The backup I mentioned is intended to protect you from ever losing your imei in the first place.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/galaxy-s-iii-partition-layout-basic-efs-t1689623
I used this method.
Ok , first, never use anything you find in the international models forum for any US model. They are very, very different devices. If you made an image from mmcblk0p3 as stated in that thread, you actually made a copy of sbl2 I'm pretty sure.
Also, the imei, (the important thing here) is not actually stored on the efs partition as it is in some other devices.
Run the command I posted before for the best solution. If NV corruption is ever detected, it should auto restore from this backup during boot up.
And again, stay away from the international forums. Most of the info there will not apply to our devices here and many, many people have bricked due to that mistake.
And delete the backup you made. If you were to try and restore it to your device after updating it at some point, it would most likely cause a brick.
OK thanks I'll get on that . I flashed a remix ROM and everything seems good right now. I'll try to back it up today.

Read up on Kit Kat, you might not want to upgrade. You will lose write access to the SDCard. There are ways to then fix it, but you could lose function in some of your apps. Samsung finally adopted the Android specs for write access.
