[Q] Can we now have jellybean from HTC - OFFICIALLY with SENSE 4.1+ - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today i got a message from HTC saying "Namaste! New android software version 4.2.2 for your HTC Device is here! Please upgrade for better data experience at www.htc.com (data charges apply)".
Is it true that we have now received official jellybean update from HTC ? Can anyone confirm it.
I'm on latest Leedroid rom btw.
I also found something here -
http://technosamigos.com/htc-android-4-2-jelly-bean-update-device-list-schedule/

I don't know if I can believe it. If it's true though this would mean good things for custom ROMs based on stock 4.2 becoming much more stable I would assume?

4.2.2 Jellybean isn't even on the HTC One yet, whoever sent you this was trying to scam you, so don't bother trying to update

I dont think you would get official update notifications with a custom rom. Especially nonsensical notifications about 4.2.

I remenber that with the arrival of the first ICS Rom´s, we receive a mail fron HTc congratulating us on our new terminal. Maybe it´s the same.
Take a look in settings/about phone, maybe ro.product.device is wrong in build.pro and htc is thinking you have another device (One X or something like this)

It is either a prank, or an error. DEFINITELY not an official update. Unrooted explorers also getting this message.

When I flashed cm10.1 Google congratulated me on my new galaxy nexus. Lol. I think previous posts about them thinking we have a different phone are correct.

[Q] when the official Gingerbread update?

when the official Gingerbread update for htc desire?
When it's ready.

For HTC Desire Z is before end of June:
http://htcsource.com/2011/05/htc-customer-service-confirms-htc-desire-z-gingerbread-update-for-q2/
The Desire Z is similar to the normal Desire, so i think this statement can also used for it.

That's a nice one.
In the spirit of DNF Vaporware, it should just be "when it's done."
There's been millions of rumours and dates suggested. Who knows...

It's probably going to be somewhere before the end of june...
This dutch article states that a reliable insider said that they have taken out some of the downloadable apps, like facebook and twitter to make the new OTA update fit on the system partition and that they'll begin rolling out in a week or so.
End of June... so probably end of August
Next week... Friday 12.33.
I have problems returning to stock rom so with this new update can I update it to unrooted 2.3 or ?

You won't be able to update a custom rom with the official over the air update but you should be able to unroot using an official RUU. No official 2.3 RUU is out yet and its unconfirmed as to when 2.3 will be released for the Desire.
i heard you can update in july or august
You have a lot of Gingerbread lying around. You shouldn't worry about a lame update (HTC reported that they have to trim it in order to fit the memory). It will never be able to support a decent Sense and the changes will not be as spectacular as those made in some of the custom ROMs. Plus you will have memory shortages and all the headaches associated with non-data2sd ROMs.

2.3 OTA Update

I'm hearing of some unbranded UK Desires receiving an OTA update to Gingerbread, has anyone else seen this? Nothing on mine yet, and since it's unbranded I imagine it's not a staggered rollout.
Anyone know what's going on, or are my sources false?
I've not heard anything to maybe a fail. I guess if you find HTC's RUU then it will be rolling out soon. About now is when it's rolling out so maybe so.
Well after some checking I can confirm that a desire, possibly on TMob got a system update a couple days ago, but can't confirm whether it was 2.3 or just a pre update of some sort, also not sure if the desire is branded or not.
unfortunately the phone is a work phone that my friend doesn't have currently so can't get any more details at this moment.
Nothing here. Unbranded handset :-(

HTC Official Update
I received the following email today from HTC Customer Care in response to a question as to when they will fix the widely reported Google leak (potential security flaw in Android).
In regards to your last response, in order to to get the security update when it is being issued, you have to have a base of the 2.3 Gingerbread update on your handset, in which case will be released this summer for devices such as HTC Desire.
Currently we do not have a specific date as to when the 2.3 will be released for other handsets as at this time the update is only being issued to HTC Desire HD and HTC Incredible S.
summer? geeez... I thought it was going to be anytime soon this month... Bit fed up of waiting...

Check my sig. I can't say I noticed something actually does not work, which I can say for some other roms people swore are rock stable, but it drains battery and there is obvious lag especially with alternative launchers and animations. That said, I can cope with some lag, but I can't cope with memory leaks, bootloops, ads etc.
So you can't just yet say it is as it is meant to be, but it comes to that this actually works. Not extra smooth, but it does.

Android 2.3.7

Hm so Nexus S was update to 2.3.7
I wonder if that's some security fix like 3.2.1 was for Honeycomb the other day...?
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...-gwk74-with-google-wallet-for-the-nexus-s-4g/
Is it me or does it make you wonder why they don't kind of insist that 'security fixes' are actually pushed out?
2.2.2 / 2.3.3 are the latest official versions for the Desire - I guess AOSP builds will probably see a quick update sometime in the future
I'm going to have to sync my repository as I didn't even know 2.3.6 existed

Am using MIUI android 2.3.5 so I think this RoM will update soon.
Isn't Miui based on Cyanogen?
I can't see any advantage to this update tbh.

Not sure lol I do know MIUI was on 2.3.4 then updated to 2.3.5 not so long ago.
I haven't noticed any AOSP roms going to 2.3.6 either.
I'm happy with my rom on 2.3.5 tbh. I would have been happy on 2.3.4 to fix the clear text password transmission issue, but at the time since 2.3.5 was out, I swa little point not using it.
2.3.6 is just bug fix for Voice, nothing more.

Yeah voice search I guess, thats all I could find. Cant find anything for 2.3.7 except google wallet, only for sprint users...
2.3.7 went out for Nexus S
2.3.6 recently went out for Nexus One.
The last few updates I haven't seen any report on anything much interesting being added - but they could also include "security bugfixes" and other undocumented features I guess
I didn't realise that 2.3.6 wasn't out for Nexus One so I wonder if that's why AOSP (and AOSP based Cyanogen and MIUI) ones haven't really gone from 2.3.5 -> 2.3.6 yet?
Probably. I.didn't know but I wouldn't bother unless it offered something

Jelly bean custom ROMs are probably a month or 2 away, with an official release probably 3 or 4 months away.
Seeing as you asking on the HOX section of forums you're bound to get biased replies
Have to say I'm loving my HOX 100%, and would recommend it
Edit: when i say JB custom ROMs i mean sense based ones, there are already non sense based JB ROMs in original dev thread
Okey. I have got my hox now. And i would like to get jellybean without sense. Is there any good one like this that is stable.
Then i wonder if i use one of this roms, will i be getting updates automaticly.
Is it difficult to flash a new rom? I did it on my nexus.

Someone?

The most stable roms without Sense are probably well-known CyanogenMod series:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786696
If you mean OTA updates (over-the-air), I know only one ROM for HOX with OTA updates, which is viperX by Team Venom (which is Sense based).
Flashing ROMs isn't difficult process, it's actually pretty simple, but you should first unlock your bootloader and install custom recovery (unless you're lucky owner of S-OFF HOX). There are plenty of guides out there, but easiest method (for me) is this All-in-one Toolkit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604439
Okey thanks for this information, very helpful. Most of all i would like to wait for htc to make a upgrade ota. But i dont whant to wait forever. When do you think this will come

OTA updates depends on many things. I get OTA update to Android 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1 in the beginning of August and I've seen lot of confused people; most of them thought only AT&T HOX get 4.0.4 update, because they didn't.
It's up to you, if you unlock and root your phone. Personally I like modding my phones and I'm also enjoying root access. My first impulse to unlock&root my phone was because of Lucky Patcher (because I'm cheap bastard and I don't want to buy expensive apps from Google Play  ) Now I don't regret I've done it, because of all that awesome things I can do with my HOX now. (like flashing custom ROMs/kernels, using apps with root access and overall I can customize lot of things which I couldn't without it.)
Okey i understand, but if you would say. When do you think htc will upgrade to 4.1 jelly bean on one x?

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie

Rumours about android 5.0 are starting to spread and I'd thought to make a discussion topic about it here.
Google says android 5.0 is more optimized than Jellybean. Thus so it can also run well on devices with 512 ram.
We havent seen that kind of android since gingerbread.
Now we all know HTC left our One V hanging regarding Jellybean, of course there are Jellybean ROM developers but it would be nice if HTC hooked us up.
Even though HTC might not roll the update for Key Lime Pie out to our One V's, I am still very curious how this version of android would run on our devices.
Let me know what you think by commenting below,

I thought 4.3 jb was gonna be announced. I'm positive though that HTC won't upgrade us at all. So custom Rom development is the only way we would get klp when google announces and finishes it.
The hero CDMA can run jb (after being dropped at eclair) so so I'm sure our phones will run 4.3 and 5 unofficially.

To be honest I'm not sure HTC would revisit old devices but like you said, there'll be unofficial ways. It's like I got my A3333 Wildfire running CM10.
