help with some questions, please. - HTC One X

Hello!
I have a google nexus now and have been offerd to change it to a one x. Should i do this, what do you think? Both are the same old and conditions and works. No wifi problems yet.
And the other question. When will one x get jelly bean?
Thanks in advance

Jelly bean custom ROMs are probably a month or 2 away, with an official release probably 3 or 4 months away.
Seeing as you asking on the HOX section of forums you're bound to get biased replies
Have to say I'm loving my HOX 100%, and would recommend it
Edit: when i say JB custom ROMs i mean sense based ones, there are already non sense based JB ROMs in original dev thread

Okey. I have got my hox now. And i would like to get jellybean without sense. Is there any good one like this that is stable.
Then i wonder if i use one of this roms, will i be getting updates automaticly.
Is it difficult to flash a new rom? I did it on my nexus.

Someone?

The most stable roms without Sense are probably well-known CyanogenMod series:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786696
If you mean OTA updates (over-the-air), I know only one ROM for HOX with OTA updates, which is viperX by Team Venom (which is Sense based).
Flashing ROMs isn't difficult process, it's actually pretty simple, but you should first unlock your bootloader and install custom recovery (unless you're lucky owner of S-OFF HOX). There are plenty of guides out there, but easiest method (for me) is this All-in-one Toolkit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604439

Okey thanks for this information, very helpful. Most of all i would like to wait for htc to make a upgrade ota. But i dont whant to wait forever. When do you think this will come
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

OTA updates depends on many things. I get OTA update to Android 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1 in the beginning of August and I've seen lot of confused people; most of them thought only AT&T HOX get 4.0.4 update, because they didn't.
It's up to you, if you unlock and root your phone. Personally I like modding my phones and I'm also enjoying root access. My first impulse to unlock&root my phone was because of Lucky Patcher (because I'm cheap bastard and I don't want to buy expensive apps from Google Play  ) Now I don't regret I've done it, because of all that awesome things I can do with my HOX now. (like flashing custom ROMs/kernels, using apps with root access and overall I can customize lot of things which I couldn't without it.)

Okey i understand, but if you would say. When do you think htc will upgrade to 4.1 jelly bean on one x?

If u mean about the official updates, that is possible, as gingerbread should be the final android version that htc gave us..maybe some minor security fix later eventually..but we will still have cm and miui that will give us the latest android version available of course
Well minor GB updates should be possible. I mean, it's not like complete overhaul like 2.2 -> 2.3 was.

i don't know about minor updates..because they didn't release the ota for all user (and they will not do that in future), its only an ruu for devs..
I doubt any updates will come our way. That would really be too much to ask. I think that Desire will be discontinued soon enough anyway.
When i wanted to buy my Desire, Vodafone Romania was out of stock. When asked when will a new shipment arrive, they've told me that the device is listed as End Of Life and no new ones will be brought. They have since removed it from their website/on-line market.
IMO, there will be no further updates for the Desire, either OTA or RUU.
Yea sad but true. A more than 1,5 year old phone is around EOL. Htc need their customers to move on to newer more profitable phones.
edit: also just checked. Almost any store i can think of have taken it off their product list.
Yep it has been discontinued.
Its on the HTC website. I doubt they would remove it off that.

I have also checked on several local stores near mhome, they do not provide any new Desire ...not anymore...
I guess this is it...
But how long the custom ROM will provide support/update to our Desire

I have saved lots of Roms, themes, Apks, Hboots and mods so whenever the Desire Devs move on I still have plenty to play with. Sometimes nostalgia is good.

and what u will do? play with old things?
no, the solution is cm and miui...they will give us the latest android version available untill the hardware can support it..so maybe more than 1 year at least (android 2.5?)
As long as the Nexus One gets new updates, be it Ice-Cream sandwhich or even the next Android iteration that comes after it, I'm sure the dev's will continue to cook us new roms up to a point where it is no longer possible.

There is no need to cook and porting when dev can build it from the source

[Q] One x with stock ics

Hey all,
I'm not sure if this is strictly where I should be posting this, but as a newer user I can't post in the dev section.
I'm getting a one x very soon from tmobile as an upgrade, but after some research I'm aittle unsure. I have tried the stock ics on some tablets and it is great. I have also tried the sense version on an HTC sensation. I think of the two I preferred the stock vanilla ics. This was an opinion shared with Joshua Topolsky after he had used the htc one x for the Verge. So I suppose I'm posting to ask, what do you think? If you have used or own an HTC one x which do you prefer? And is there a chance that a stock ics rom will be made available by the dev community?
Cheers!

The standard Sense for the HTC Sensation is 3.x even if you have ICS whilst the One X comes with 4.0 which differs quite a bit.

I've used AOSP ICS and I'm okay with what HTC have done with Sense 4.0 on the One X. There are a couple minor issues like using Locations instead of Google Maps in contacts but you can fix that by installing a utility or rooting the phone.
I've not had any problems with the One X firmware or hardware but there seems to be quite a few reports from people who have. The One range is brand new for HTC and the first to come with ICS as standard so there will be some teething troubles.
If you accept the upgrade, can you return the phone still? If so then your best bet is to just do that. Get the upgrade and just try out the One X with Sense 4.0.

Yes. There will eventually be an AOSP version of One X firmware. No idea when or who will do it but it is pretty much guaranteed that somebody will do something for it.
Also until a Rom is released you can use apex launcher. It is super stock. Lol it really the best launcher for a vanilla experience.

[Q] Can we now have jellybean from HTC - OFFICIALLY with SENSE 4.1+

Today i got a message from HTC saying "Namaste! New android software version 4.2.2 for your HTC Device is here! Please upgrade for better data experience at www.htc.com (data charges apply)".
Is it true that we have now received official jellybean update from HTC ? Can anyone confirm it.
I'm on latest Leedroid rom btw.
I also found something here -
http://technosamigos.com/htc-android-4-2-jelly-bean-update-device-list-schedule/
I don't know if I can believe it. If it's true though this would mean good things for custom ROMs based on stock 4.2 becoming much more stable I would assume?
Sent from my Desire HD using xda app-developers app
4.2.2 Jellybean isn't even on the HTC One yet, whoever sent you this was trying to scam you, so don't bother trying to update
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
I dont think you would get official update notifications with a custom rom. Especially nonsensical notifications about 4.2.
I remenber that with the arrival of the first ICS Rom´s, we receive a mail fron HTc congratulating us on our new terminal. Maybe it´s the same.
Take a look in settings/about phone, maybe ro.product.device is wrong in build.pro and htc is thinking you have another device (One X or something like this)
It is either a prank, or an error. DEFINITELY not an official update. Unrooted explorers also getting this message.
When I flashed cm10.1 Google congratulated me on my new galaxy nexus. Lol. I think previous posts about them thinking we have a different phone are correct.

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie

Rumours about android 5.0 are starting to spread and I'd thought to make a discussion topic about it here.
Google says android 5.0 is more optimized than Jellybean. Thus so it can also run well on devices with 512 ram.
We havent seen that kind of android since gingerbread.
Now we all know HTC left our One V hanging regarding Jellybean, of course there are Jellybean ROM developers but it would be nice if HTC hooked us up.
Even though HTC might not roll the update for Key Lime Pie out to our One V's, I am still very curious how this version of android would run on our devices.
Let me know what you think by commenting below,

I thought 4.3 jb was gonna be announced. I'm positive though that HTC won't upgrade us at all. So custom Rom development is the only way we would get klp when google announces and finishes it.
The hero CDMA can run jb (after being dropped at eclair) so so I'm sure our phones will run 4.3 and 5 unofficially.

To be honest I'm not sure HTC would revisit old devices but like you said, there'll be unofficial ways. It's like I got my A3333 Wildfire running CM10.

ViperX

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Can someone please tell me it isn't true.
Just read it myself, grim news indeed but that's all she wrote I guess. To be fair to rich is there any more he could do with this Rom? He has took it so far and I thank him for that. Time to look for a new device as future updates either official or Dev will dry up
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
True about the Rom and development, it's definitely a beauty. We owe rich and the whole team a big thank you, so thank you
I am also very said as viperx was the very first rom I ever flashed and I think the other roms will never have even near as many features as viperx. :crying:
I just hope maybe other dev will take the project from where Rich left it and provide a few more updates.

Sad moment for hox users, for me best rom, we lost also good kernel devs....this device is dying faster than his older brother Sensation...
Yeah, even the desire had longer support than this. Guess I will wait til the new year and see what comes outs. No point buying the one when they will announce a new flagship early next year

Well, maybe some dev will support viperx we will have to wait.
And i can't afford htc one, or htc m8, i am happy that i bought hox, it was a nice upgrade from Sensation, so i will settle down, see what will happen with viperx.... :S
I can't afford it either, but I could get one on contractb as my bro can get me 30% of the bill. I love my one x with viperx just feel left down by official support

HOX isnt lucky at all , once you take a look at its older brother you ca understand what I mean , if you check the HTC Sensation you will find it has much more suport
there you will have a nearly stable KITKAT ROM, not only one 1 kitkat ROM but 3 Kitakat ROM
developers there has been able to write a whole new kernel for Sensation from scratch
Team Venom over there has been able to port Sense5 to Sensation , now my sensation can run 7 different versions of Sense
Our HOX is still young but sadly there isnt much of developer love

It's not because of devs, it's because of tegra, nvidia, htc....tegra is crap for porting, nvidia is bad for drivers, and for htc is hard to relase kernel source code for nearly 4 months....
My other device with is desire hd still got MORE support than my beloved hox(and it's like 4 years old now? :/)... can't believe that the phone "died" in development for only around year and a half activity in that section. Every dev moved out from the phone like it's some kind of epic fail. Maybe it is, dunno anymore... ;(
It's not hard to understand, the phone itself is no epic fail. To me a great phone. The restrictions in hardware make it very hard to port software easy. That's the main reason !
I'll miss viper. I guess its time I go back to good ole stock.
If anyone skilled here can port ViperX+ rom to ONE X, than me and monarx could continue support to ViperX as we would be updating same base, and we would make common rom for both phone's.
Thats just an idea, i have no actual phone to try it my self, even phones are very similar it could be tricky to do it, but no impossible.

No because he clearly said that they have searched for another capable dev that fits the team but without succes. Jan is to busy developing for the one.
The best thing if you want rom support is to sell the hox and by a nexus 4. Just saying
