Any thoughts? Google might unveil 4.3 on the I/O this May instead of KLP 5.0. I could be wrong though. Honestly I could care less if it's KLP or 4.3 I'm just hoping that Google fixes what they broke on 4.2.
Anyone's guess here. Maybe a quick update to 4.3 for minor issues, and jump to 5.0 later in the summer. I've seen reports of server logs with Android 5.0.1 on a Google X device, and now this report of 4.3. I think JBQ and his team aren't sleeping much these days.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
I'm guessing 4.3 this coming May and later this year it will be the next Nexus + KLP. Anyhow in less than 30 days we'll know
I hope 4.3 will be just an update. An update like bug fixing shouldn't need a special event. Then a Motorola Google phone or Nexus (or maybe it's same) for a Google I/O. KLP should also be there with the new devices.

But we will still have our great devs!

Personally i would like to have the 4.2 memory errors and leaks fixed,4.2.2 was good but i removed my custom roms and i have tried many, they all had the same errors, lags etc.Now i am on stock 4.1.2 rooted with busybox installed and the louder jelly bean nexus add on for sound.
4.3 ?Honestly i expect bug fixes for Samsung Galaxy nexus.
I'm always anxious for new builds. Any word of Babel being implemented into 4.3?

hope they won't change coding again. It would take "ages" for custom roms to settle down again
I was hoping that 5.0 would be released at I/O and come to my galaxy nexus just to tide me over until I upgrade from my galaxy nexus. 4.3 will probably be a minor update, sort of like 4.2 was and will probably break more things than fix things on my galaxy nexus.

My galaxy nexus worked perfectly on 4.1.2, battery life was decent as well, but 4.2.2 ruined my nexus, so many bugs, lag and battery suffered as well. The galaxy nexus has its fair share of issues as well and after owning it for 16 months, it is beginning to wear on me. I still love it but its becoming more of a love-hate relationship.

Hmmm...I've been delighted with 4.2.2 on my GNex. Never run smoother or been more stable than now. Other than a minor issue with Bluetooth handoff between vehicles and house phone, it's good.

Mine runs beautifully. Idk if it is actually something since I haven't been back to 4.1 since the ota but it seemed smoother. 4.2 is smooth too but 4.1 just seemed... Different... I like 4.2 too though. I love my nexus and won't upgrade until probably late 2014, no reason to...

So obviously the best course of action is to bump them.
To the OP: No one knows anything about KLP-- no concrete details have been leaked or officially announced thus far. But I think it's very safe to assume that you should not expect it until Q1 or Q2 2013.
Sorry for my curiosity.

The Google guys can't be that retarded to release a new version of android when there are no other phones with jelly bean besides the nexus s and gnex. I think the next major update (aka klp) will be announced june - july 2013. Till then we will get minor updates (4.1.2, 4.1.3...)

A new nexus is always released with a new system version if history is to repeat itself.
Nexus One - Eclair/Froyo
Nexus S - Gingerbread
Galaxy Nexus - Ice Cream Sandwich
Nexus 7 - Jellybean
Assuming history is followed we should be able to expect a new version with the next nexus. But we must keep in mind googles plan for 1 major update/year and with that in mind it could be June when we get our next major release.

Whether it will be vers. 4.3 or 5.0, do you think GSM galaxy nexus will get it?
Personally I think it will. Simply becaus even if Google decides to release the new version of android in combination with a new device, it won't be a new phone. ( Maybe a new nexus 7, but not a new flagship phone )
Nexus S didn't receive android 4.2 not because it's CPU couldn't handle it, but because Google wanted customers to focus on the nexus 4.
I think we will be good for the next 100 years

1) The nexus s didn't receive the update due to storage issues in the sector partitioned for OS. There is workarounds to this but it requires wiping devices and Google just can't do that to the mass public.
2) The galaxy nexus is only 12 months old, Google promises support for 18 months and likely even longer.
3) The galaxy nexus has a faster CPU then the nexus s and a similar GPU but the galaxy nexus has 1gb of space partitioned for OS.
4) Based on the above facts I can say with great certainty that we Galaxy Nexus owners will be receiving the next OS update.

I'am confident that google would release the next version for GneX, there's non reason to leave it back, while for the NexS was explained why the official development was stopped! I only hope they put more attention in the development stage because 4.2 has a lot of silly bug that a good JUnit coverage could have found before the release (aka december bug, but why not mentioning the camera).
I am sure, we will definitely get the update! GNexus has a good hardware!
hopefully next 3 months, a major revamped ver, instead of something like buggy Android 4.2

As far as I know, the gnex has only received 2 major updates: 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 to 4.2. I think that most people would agree that the 4.0.2 - 4.0.4 were minor updates, as were the 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 and the 4.2 to 4.2.1 updates.

Because the Nexus IS "the google phone" It's Google's very own. It's made by various companies depending on which one (previous "google" phones), but it's "vanilla" meaning it has no UI on top of it. Example: HTC phones have "Sense". Samsung has "Touch Wiz" It takes time for Samsung to implement their stuff on top of the new OS.
Ok ok thanks

...Not as minor as 4.2 -> 4.3. UI drastically changed (not just the launcher) and they decided to make a universally available Launcher called Google Experience, so you see Google is determined to make KitKat a large step forward.
But yeah, based on this point (universal, unified experience) and Google's saying of "making the best experience for everyone", I can say that we're going to get KitKat in one way or another (I don't personally care if Google decides no official release, AOSP is always there). Plus, who said we need 3.4 or even 3.8 kernels to run it (any RELIABLE sources)? Many older devices run JB 4.1 and even 4.2 nicely with 2.6.xx kernels. Many 3.4, 3.8 and even 3.1x features are being backported too.

Look i don't know about Linux Kernel, etc..
But i just saw that the 3.8 is officially discontinued.
3.4 is continued until October 2014.
So i think the next Kernel version for Android will be the 3.10 (long term: until September 2015) not 3.8.
By the way....a Nexus 5 with 3.10 kernel would be pretty nice. But it seem it will be 3.4.
Source
I remember when 3.0 was released (after the 2.6.39), Linus Torvalds said exactly this:
"So what are the big changes? NOTHING. Absolutely nothing. Sure, we have the usual two thirds driver
changes, and a lot of random fixes, but the point is that 3.0 is
*just* about renumbering, we are very much *not* doing a KDE-4 or a
Gnome-3 here. No breakage, no special scary new features, nothing at
all like that. We've been doing time-based releases for many years
now, this is in no way about features. If you want an excuse for the
renumbering, you really should look at the time-based one ("20 years")
instead."
I post that, only to say that sometimes numbers mean nothing..3.4 is a stable kernel, there isn't a big difference that you can see in the daily use with 3.10..really
Lets pray, for kitkat on our phone..!!!
