So I have a pro clip (http://www.proclipusa.com/) and have been using it for a few years now (since my iPhone 3GS) and every time I swap out the Holder for my new phone (obviously).
I really like their style because it's pretty minimalist and doesn't involve suction cups. HOWEVER, the latest one I have been using for my iphone 4s (with bumper) was less than stellar (This: http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionp...r=false&have_mount=true&p_pageid=16488&dtype= )
They started using a 'one size fits all' type of product where you basically size your devise and screw in the adjustable sides. The sides ALWAYS slip and I have to re-tighten them. It's really a pain.
It also appears that they don't have support YET for the HTC One (another bummer).
I want to keep Vehicle mount and I am wondering if there is a way to hybridize the custom vehicle mount with something like this: http://www.amazon.com/GreatShield-Windshield-Dashboard-Universal-Holster/dp/B0090SB1CE/
Again, trying to stay away from the window suction cups which seems nearly unavoidable.
Anyone find a good solution to the proclips problem? Really unfortunate that they chose to skimp on quality and haven't updated for the ONE...
I've been checking the proclip website for an HTC One mount as well. As you said, no such luck so far.
One possible (but not very elegant) solution involves the HTC One official car dock (D160 or whatever the model number is). HTC dock uses a suction cup and comes with a flat plastic disc with a sticky pad on one side. The normal use for that disc is to stick it on your dashboard to create the flat and glossy surface ideal for the suction cup at the bottom of the actual dock. It should be possible to stick this disc to the proclip vehicle mount and suction-mount the official HTC car dock on top of it.
As I said, not very elegant, but it is one way to convert your proclip vehicle mount to a suction mount point. And you can probably go back to a proclip device docks by removing the sticky disk in the future.

Hmm, that may be something to look into. At least for the time being until ProClip comes out with something...
Wonder how long it takes for them to announce a new device mount...

Personally I haven't been too impressed with ProClip in the last few years. The holder they had for the Galaxy S3 was really expensive. Too expensive for what it was...
I'm happy that we have an official car dock from HTC.
The ProClip holders for the HTC One are in production. Within 1-2 weeks they will have them in stock. Just send them an email to get on the notification list. [email protected]
Attached is an image of their HTC One holder with a USB/Car charger. The other standard ones they will have as well.
Proclip sells a suction cup disc: http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de.../suction-cup-dashboard-disc-710643-14367.aspx
I'm not sure if it just uses two-sided tape to attach or if there are screw holes so you can attach it properly. Unfortunately the link for the install instructions is broken so I can't really tell.
EDIT: Just sent an email to Proclip to see if it uses adhesive or a screw.
EDIT 2: Got a response, there is adhesive on the back so it's no better than any other disc out there.

Hi everyone,
I've just received a Brodit clip and active mount for my XDA Exec, and was surprised when the instructions show the need to screw the mount onto the clip!
I thought the whole idea of the clip system was that you bought one clip, and then when changing phone/PDA you just bought another mount and attached it to the same clip.
From the look of the screws I'm guessing they're sharp enough to go into the clip without prior drilling, but it still seems pretty invasive.
Is this actually what you're supposed to do? Or am I missing something...
Nope you're not missing anything. If you get a new device the new cradle will have the same bit that screws go through into the clip. ie the screw holes will be reused for the new cradle.
HTH
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks!
Makes me wonder why the holes aren't pre-drilled into the clip though.
*shrugs*
Hi,
As the Proclip system is used not only for Brodit device holders, they are used professionally also for other phone car kits, such as the Nokia etc (look at any handsfree kit, and most will be mounted to a Proclip), and many other applications, such as sat nav units, radios, apple ipods etc, most use the same 4 hole configuration.
Indeed some clips do come pre drilled, but in the main, most clips are now blank to allow multi use applications, along with the brodit moveclip system that allows you to hot swap devices held onto the dash mounted proclip, and swap devices from one cars proclip to another car with a proclip installed (saving you money not having to buy x2 device holders).
Hope that helps clear that up for you!
Thanks
Bryson
Hi - just got an email from Proclip announcing their Glacier vehicle mount options (I'd emailed them previously asking if anything was coming). If you haven't seen them before, they use a 2 stage system, with custom mounts for vehicles paired with custom holders for phones. On the plus side, this means that you get a proper mount that (at least as far as my old mount for my HTC Kaiser) fits well. On the down side they are pricey.
My biggest disappointment with this one - like the T-Mobile desk dock, they've gone for USB rather than the pins for charging. Who knows - maybe they've got the tolerances right and these ones won't scratch phones, but I'm not sure I'm willing to for out $59-$79 (I already own the vehicle mount for my car) to find out. I might go for the non-powered mount which will be listed soon according to their email. It should be at least $25 cheaper going on their usual pricing schemes. Anyway, I thought I'd pass this on.

Well, that's disappointing. But so far, every accessory for this phone has been...
Thanks for the post.

Only thing i don't like about these is taking my phone out of it's case to use it. I have the hard plastic one with the kickstand from tmobile and love the case and the extra grip on the sides. I tried one of those new cases with the sticky back and i guess my phone was too heavy for it with the case, and it was crap, lol. Gonna have to keep looking for the perfect one.
I'd prefer something windshield mounted. If I'm not getting the 3-pin version, I don't see why I should have to remove my case for the car dock, so I'd like one of those generic car mounts.
I have no experience with them though. What's the best one? Any recommendations?
check out Ram Mounts. google it
They are the most sturdy, but can be expensive.
i use the X mount one with my gnex and its awesome.
FYI I saw someone mention using the standard Garmin nuvi suction cup mount, with a GN in a case it does seem to fit.

This thread is about the verizon nexus. You say you have the european samsung dock with the pogo pins and the verizon phone fits in it?
If so, do the pins line up and work to put in in car mode?
I ordered the VZW/LTE specific version of the car dock from mycellworld.com. its supposedly legit in that it has the 3 pins and is definitely for the LTE handset. its on back order, supposed to ship next week. will review as soon as it shows up.

p.s. I have the extended OEM battery and I also have the generic car dock (no 3 pins) and it fits no problem.

I know you said you prefer windshield mounted but I just bought the Tetrax FIXWAY mount and I love it. There is a large thread on it with lots of pics/videos. That thread is one of the reasons I bought it.
I too was looking for a car mount to be used with a case and an extended battery. I was just going to use a generic one off of amazon that was like a clamp style. Even though the Tetrax doesn't suction cup to the windshield, I think it is worth you looking at if you haven't already.
I mounted mine onto my dash and think it works perfectly. It doesn't obstruct my view at all and its is just a quick glance down to check navigation/music.
The phone is really quick to just 'snap' it in place. The only downside to me is that you have to manually plug in the power and aux cords but I don't even see this as a true downside since you will have to do this with any generic mount you would need in order to keep the case on.
If you are interested and would like me to take any additional pictures for you just let me know and I would be happy to do what I can

I ordered the X-grip mount with a medium size arm and the adhesive rubber ball base(I plan on keeping my car until its run into the ground) on January 11th.
Soon after ordering they informed me that the base wasn't in stock but it would ship out in 1-2 weeks. 2 weeks past with no word, then he said it would ship out at the end of the week. Still no shipping
I figured CS people would know not to give unrealistic ETA dates(especially when ram-mount makes the damn things themselves), especially over and over again, stringing the customer along...

I'm really tempted. Both options above are expensive. I was worried that the attachment thing might look like ****, but from the pictures in that thread, it doesn't look too bad. Same question though, can I turn it to landscape for Navigation? Also, how sturdy is the connection? Will it fall off as my car hits a bump or something?

+1 to ProClip! They have a mount that can adjust with different cases, and it's very sturdy. The one I have mounts to my vent though (I prefer this anyway since my windshield is so...sloped). They are kinda pricey also, but they don't look too bulky and are specifically made for your car model. I love mine.
Would like to bump this thread to see if anyone else had suggestions for good universal car mounts/docks that will work with a GNEX in a case.

try the iBolt pro dock alumina... this car dock works with just about any phone, and especially works great with the galaxy nexus.... this cardock allows you to place it on either the windshield, dashboard, or air vent since extra pins are supplied to place the dock there and theres no need to remove your case from your phone... which is a god send.. it only cost me about $35 on amazon, so i cant argue with the price... i have excellent photos of it, that i'll share as soon as i reach the 10 post mark, that allows me to attach files and externals link...

You're past 10 posts, pics please!
As the official dock is way too expensive imo, I thought I'd start a thread where people can post their unofficial car docks they bought and the experiences they made.
So far I came across two docks, the [CAR] Passive holder from Brodit (2nd pic)
and one I found on ebay, sent from Hong Kong (pic below): Windscreen Car mount small (1st pic with text "one X")
This one also can be bought with various different mounting options. I am not sure how easy it will be to dock and undock the phone in the mount though, looks rather tight.
I think I will wait some more days / weeks before I'll buy something.
Any other car kits you guys found?
2nd looks pretty decent for a cheap mount
Here another one, brodit active, but really ugly...

the problem is it's being sent from HKG, if customs here decide to have a look at it I end up paying CHF 35.- (double the amount that thing costs) customs service fee, I almost might as well buy an official one
I would get this one, but I need a seller here in Europe.
Hey this one is low cost and will do the job:
ebay swivel one x holder
I used ot use it with my old DHD which now feels so ridiculously heavy!
You can mount it witht he provided suction that holds well enough.
Or if you buy some 3m automotive grade double sided tape
You can mount it on other places that don't have a smooth glass finish.
I had it stuck on plastic trim near the driver door/window.
The surface was mildly bumpy but that 3m held on well until the day I removed it.
Popping the phone in and out, and rotating it with force didn't budge it!
Out of curiosity I also purchased this one:
Those protruding clips can probably come off easily.
Some 3m on that flat surface and it will probably stick anywhere.
I like this one because it sticks out and gives a greater range of movement / angle.
Secured near the door you can have your arm rested on the seal and access the phone easily.
Unlike the official (or any other suction windscreen mounted one) which forces you to lean towards it awkwardly.

How easily can you mount and demount the phone in this one?
I am also looking into getting this one, I also already have the cradle, would you mind taking a pic without the phone in it for me to see if it would fit for my cradle (with my old mount I could simply take away the "case" which held the phone, was secured with 4 rectangular holes in roughly 2.5 cm distance to each other)?

Hey thanks for finding that.
This one here is pretty much spot on to what I been looking for:
The way them brackets expand in their demo video looks like it will hold a phone even if it's in a tpu case.
They ship outside of US too but the best part is that they allow you to use your own fedex/ups account.
This is the one I purchased.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/160777560050?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I really like the way the suction on the windscreen works. Some of these other car mounts are horrible, they fall off after a few minutes, hours ect...
The fit of the HTC One X on the bracket is very tight, won't ever fall off.
Happy with this one.
Btw this one arrived... 6 days transit, not bad for HK.
The item is not the best though.
The neck is more stiff then my first erection when I discovered p0rn. Hard to bend.
The phone sits well tight in the bracket but putting it in feels like I'm going to damage the phone.
Not the best. Ebay didn't deliver.. usually they only have quality true? lol
Anyway, I will purchase that one from Arkon. Looks decent and can cater to multiple phones.
I've just found the following item on eBay which may be of interest to UK HOX owners:
[Unfortunately I can't post a link as I haven't posted more than 8 times on this forum]
Search eBay for item no: 360454478820
£5.95 free postage within 2-3 working days.
Looks to be the same item/design as the on in the OP
I'll be placing my order today and will post again with feedback hopefully by the end of the week
not bad this is, use to have one of these for my old HTC HD2
only problem is when you change your phone for something different, new than you have to sell this with the phone and buy a new one again.
So I've decide to go for some universal accessories as I was tired of changing the holders, dockings, chargers all the time. Especially in car access. as I always ended with reinstalling cabels, holders, etc..
But good solution for someone who don't mind to change or who's not changing phones often

Could you check the back of the phone holder itself, I ordered one just like yours and it has 'G21' stamped on the back. (G21 is the Sensation XL)

Yeah, it'll definitely fit with a TPU case as long as it's not super thick.
Has anyone seen a car dock for the G4? Or know of a good one that they recommend?
I had a universal one from my old phone.... couple comments on those types. Look into one that clamps from the sides(so maybe ones for iphone?) The one I have is bottom and top and it barely fits thanks to the size of this phone. Also, I doubt there will be one where you can still use the back button(thank you knock to unlock!) Finally, this phone is bigger and thus heavier. The mount I have is one that plugs into the "cigarette lighter" which works for my car. However, I would imagine you might have problems with a suction cup mount especially if it is a cheaper one.
I always used to buy the factory car mounts, but I switch phones so often, that it was getting a bit pricey. When I bought my G3 I bought the iBolt MiniPro. Finally, a mount I can use phone to phone. Here's the link to it on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/iBOLT-IBUC-33418-miniPro-Connect-Kit/dp/B00IJZYRCK
Ok thanks I'll check it out.
I got this one from my local Target and I love it... http://www.scosche.com/mounts/magicmount-landing. The best thing is the little metal price that you need to stick on your phone works just as well slipped inside of the back cover making it a non-permanent solution.
I highly recommend the iOttie One Touch mounts. You just push the phone into the holder, and there's a button in the middle that releases the spring loaded side clamps that locks the phone in place. To pick the phone back up, you squeeze a couple of tabs on the side right where you'd grab the phone naturally. I've got the old style in my car, and the new one with the telescoping mount in my wife's. Both are great.
They also have the very sticky type of suction cup that you renew by just running water over it. Ours both stick to the consoles that even have some texture on the plastic.
I've got the smaller size mount that I've had since getting an S4, but hers in the bigger size. The G4 fits OK in either.
Places like Meritline have them on sale frequently. I paid about $12 for the first one, and $15 for the newer one.
I got this iBolt when I had my Note 3, works great with the G3 and G4.
http://www.amazon.com/iBOLT-xProDock-car-speakers-extended-Batteries/dp/B00AOCSFYC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434102989&sr=8-1&keywords=ibolt+car+dock
I have one of those magnetic vent mounts and it turns out that the piece of metal fits perfectly behind the plastic back cover. Those magnets are strong enough to work through cases, though I have not received a case for the g4 to test it out.
They are usually on sale on amazon for $6
Update so got a cheap case from amazon and the magnet didn't work behind the battery cover, will try the plate between phone and cover like I had before with my S4. Only problem is the case back is rounded.
More sturdy - Waze user
I was thinking about getting the Qi sticker for the LG G4, after they get more in the US, then picking up the TYLT VU car charger http://www.tylt.com/vu-car/, but that would put it to far away in my vehicle.
So get either the ProClip https://www.proclipusa.com/ or the Pro.Fit http://www.pro-fit-intl.com/shopvsm.htm custom mount for my vehicle and then use the RAM Mounts http://www.rammount.com/components to convert and link them together in a good position for Navigation and Waze use in Horizontal or Vertical position.
This would allow me to use the Qi Charging (not capable on my current phone as it is a few years old) with any new phone I purchase, as why I am in this section is that I am leaning towards the LG G4 for my next phone.
Speaking of proclipusa they make custom smartphone holders and since their G4 holder is not out yet, they have a page to sign up and get notified when it comes out.
http://www.proclipusa.com/targetsections/lg-g4-car-phone-mounts.aspx
I'd highly recommend the Spiderpodium and just bend it into shape. It's super versital and minimal, but works fantastically as a car dock for my G4 and other phones. You can mount it in an air vent or really any sort of receptical, I have a slot for CDs and it Does just fine in there.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00U8...iderpodium&dpPl=1&dpID=413qHPi24pL&ref=plSrch
The official maker is Breffo, but that one is very inexpensive and looks just fine.
These are the two I have in my cars.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P053YQ2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008IOQ3K6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00
Both are strong enough to hold the LG G Flex in the Otter Box Defender Case. I threw the metal plate on top of the battery put the leather cover back on and no issues.
I've just ordered a Brodit universal cradle (I swear by Brodit cradles and custom wired charging cables). I have installed a couple of 5v 3A USB voltage regulators wired in to a MicroUSB cable which pokes out just underneath my Brodit cradle location. Should give me plenty of juice for charging with Nav running.
According to Brodit, the universal holder is suitable for phones between 62-77 mm wide with a thickness of 6-10 mm. The G4 is 76.1mm wide with a 6.3mm to 9.8mm curved depth. Hopefully will fit fine! Will find out tomorrow!

That is exactly the one I had for my HTC One M8, worked like a champ. Can't use it with my Verizon G4 because the charging port is backwards.

Little tough to explain. But I think the HTC cable that came with the one I got for my M8 is just the reverse of what the G4 has.

Yep, the M8 has the mini-USB port flipped to what the G4 has. So car mounts made for the M8 won't work with the G4 unless you modify it.
Car mode??
Is there a car mode for this device? I don't think it shipped with any kind of car app or anything...

I wonder if this will interfere with the NFC at all? I don't use NFC really so it isn't a big deal, just curious. Is it possible to stick the plate on the cover vice the battery since we have the option of a spare battery? Then I wouldn't have to worry about which Battery was in my phone.
Everyone you need to check out RAM Mounts! -- https://www.rammount.com/products/xgrip
I have two RAM Mount X-Grips. One on my motorcycle and one in my truck. RAM Mounts are modular mounts that you buy in pieces (they do sell kits) to serve the purpose you need and where you want to mount it. Due to its design it will securely hold most phones (my G4 with the spigen case fits) without any issue. It is easy to throw the phone in the mount and you never have to tighten anything down.
Example of configurations:
Motorcycle = handlebar U-bolt base + short arm + Standard X-Grip Mount
Truck = Adhesive flexible base + standard arm + Standard X-Grip Mount
