Hi everyone,
I've just received a Brodit clip and active mount for my XDA Exec, and was surprised when the instructions show the need to screw the mount onto the clip!
I thought the whole idea of the clip system was that you bought one clip, and then when changing phone/PDA you just bought another mount and attached it to the same clip.
From the look of the screws I'm guessing they're sharp enough to go into the clip without prior drilling, but it still seems pretty invasive.
Is this actually what you're supposed to do? Or am I missing something...
Nope you're not missing anything. If you get a new device the new cradle will have the same bit that screws go through into the clip. ie the screw holes will be reused for the new cradle.
HTH
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks!
Makes me wonder why the holes aren't pre-drilled into the clip though.
*shrugs*
Hi,
As the Proclip system is used not only for Brodit device holders, they are used professionally also for other phone car kits, such as the Nokia etc (look at any handsfree kit, and most will be mounted to a Proclip), and many other applications, such as sat nav units, radios, apple ipods etc, most use the same 4 hole configuration.
Indeed some clips do come pre drilled, but in the main, most clips are now blank to allow multi use applications, along with the brodit moveclip system that allows you to hot swap devices held onto the dash mounted proclip, and swap devices from one cars proclip to another car with a proclip installed (saving you money not having to buy x2 device holders).
Hope that helps clear that up for you!
Thanks
Bryson

Nice
I'm going to need one of these when my Artemis arrives within a couple of days. Not sure but i think that it comes with a holder for the car in the box. Anyway just wanted to say that you should stay away from the holders that attach to the heating vents of the car. My unlce who works for Cisco Systems told me that they have been flagged by his company because it apparently is not good for the device. Not sure if this is true but just wanted to give this community a heads up on this one. I say you go for the suction holders.

The P3300 comes with a car holder, which looks very much like the brodit holders oddly enough...
Also comes with a windcreen suction mount and a natty HTC car charger (witch shiny chrome HTC embossed on it)
You only get the car charger, windscreen mount and 512MB Transflash card with the Premium version (this is the one with full TomTom mapping included) - well thats what the manual states, I got all three "extras" with mine - Mike
I didn't get any accessories with my device. I just got the base unit with the manuals, etc. I need a car mount.

Hey Neptune,
I see what you are saying, but thousands upon thousands of very satisfied customers and no damaged devices, along with rigourous controlled tests really do mean you are worrying about this without a valid cause!
Thanks

This device sucks its build cheap ass so it wont fit smoothly it has broken my mini usbport on the p3300. Need to get it fixed hope it will fall under my guarantee. Find another carholder/charger this one sucks!
Perjan, thanks for the heads up. For £40 i would be expecting top build quality.
Brodit holder for UK O2 XDA Orbit
The Orbit is basically an Artemis with a redesigned shell....
Does anyone know if the Orbit will fit into an Artemis / Brodit holder?
Cheers
Chris
hi
the orbit usb port is located slightly differently to the P3300 i believe it is only millimeters out but could make a difernence. I heard Brodit were making a holder specific to the Orbit for that reason.
Re comments above about vent holders i used one for 2 years with a IPAQ 5550 and had no issues at all.(infact in the summer it was a bonus as the ai con helped keep the device cool)
I find they are not so suitable for the Orbit as the clip/holder that is stuck to the device is not Orbit friendly.and if i use the clip that came with the Pdair case it hangs forward.
i use a suction mount with the side grip bars and it works great with the PDair case.
Well I have the brodit mount for the Artemis and it works well with the Orbit. It arrived after I read this post and I was aware it might not fit exactly so I gently bent the connector on the mount and it now fits perfectly and I am more than happy with it.
I am now just awaiting the brodit pro clip to attach it to the dashboard over the air vent. As I do not want to leave the screen mounted holder in the car due to last attempted break in!
Just to confirm only gentle pressure is needed to align the connection to fit perfectly to the Orbit so well worth the money in my opinion.
Hi,
Ordered my Orbit, and looking forward to it - may have finally got an XDA that I'll keep long term. Have had II, IIi, S, mini, Exec, so it would be nice if so!
My first post for a while - as usually the info I want I can find in a search. Except this one!
I'd really like a case for the Orbit - either a skin-type, or the alum' one. However I also need a car holder for it, with tough UK no-mobile-phones in cars rules insisting on this. Ideally one with a power speaker & mic, like the up-coming Seidio.
The question - does anyone know of a case/car holder combo that works together without having to remove the PDA from the case? I know you can get the cases with a magnetic back and corresponding holder, however would rather avoid this approach if possible.
Oh - and just to clarify, the case needs to still be pocket sized, so the usual large clip things sticking out the back will be no good. Maybe someone has "invented" their own solution? I figure the alum' one is modifiable, so am thinking that may be the best bet - just need some ideas for mounting! (esp' bearing in mind would like a active powered holder).
Thanks all!
I think you will struggle to find an active mount with speaker due to the audio output being part of the mini USB connector on these devices.
Take a look at Brodit 848714 for a passive holder or Brodit 968714 for an active version (charging only). These are just the holders, you will need a Pro-Clip to suit your vehicle, I also recommend a "Move it" clip between the Pro-Clip and the holder, it makes removal quick and efficiant, leaving just the small pro-clip in the vehicle (less chance of some low-life breaking in because a mount is on show). - These are quality holders, not the cheapest, but then do you want your new toy flying around the car due to a crappy mount?
For the audio output you could use Bluetooth - I have had my Artemis connected via BT and playing through the car stereo, a little low in volume but the quality was very good - Mike
Cheers Mike,
I've already got the brodit system - used it with both the IIi and S, so have the bracket etc. The brodit holders will not allow for any type of case (skin, alum, etc) - and I cannot see how to modify them to suit. The brodit bracket itself is just a platform, so have used with many other holders.
The Seidio case I refered to is (yet to be released):
http://www.handnav-hosting.co.uk/product_details.php?id=2373
I guess what I'm hoping for is a brand that makes a case, plus a compatible car holder that supplies at least power.
Worse case I'll most likely get alum pdair case, stick a magnet to the back, and just plug in a charge cable each time (and use bluetooth car-kit).
Thanks,
My solution
I have a siemens hcw600 bluetooth car kit - works superbly if you install jetware and the address book swap. DId this on my Mini S and now on my new Orbit...
I also got a standatd multi-way pda adapter off eby... if you get one with adjustable feet on the bottom, put the Orbit in, connect the usb, then slide the feet tight up to the usb... then add a few strategic drops of superglue to the feet and usb, and you have a fixed connector... this also works if the unit is i a case - just make sure its in the case and positioned before you clue the usb to the holder....
Great sounding tip - may give that a go! I did notice that the Orbit is now thin (width) enough to fit lots of mobile phone holders on their widest setting.
Going to review one of these new PDAHut mounts in the mean time.... Will let you know what it's like.
Hello,
I wanted to get a car holder for my MDA Compact III,
do you guys recommend an air vent car holder or a windscreen mount phone holder?
Have a look at the Brodit range they do a nice holder active and passive and a number of options to hold the unit in your car. I use the Brodit and HR holders in my vehicle - have a read of http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/broditartemis.php for a few details - Mike
thanks for the reply,
is the HR one the windscreen mount phone holder?
The write up contained Brodit products, only one part was the HR holder coupled to the Brodit Pro-Clip, you can see the three pictures using the HR Holder around the text -
"The HR mount is supplied with a flexible arm and windscreen suction cup, I much prefer the Brodit Pro clip as it provides a more stable mounting solution that is vibration free."
or read my post at this link http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modul...pic&t=48131&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=51
Both Brodit and the HR units can be used with a winscreen holder or Pro clips, an edless choice of options depending on the vehicle and phone - Mike
thanks for the reply,
i am a bit confused as to how to select the car holder. i am a bit concerned as to if the car holder would fit the MDA copact III.
i checked in the t-mobile store and they are doing something for 10 pounds. the upside is if it does not fit, i can return it.
but then i be limited to a certain choice.
not sure if i should be going for something that attaches to the vents or something that sticks to the windscreen.
i came across this one
http://www.lhdigital.co.uk//product_info.php?cPath=6_127&products_id=126
is there much between two holders?
Its quite a simple choice to be honest, are you happy to entrust a cheap £10 holder from the shop that can mount a mutitude of devices or get a specific holder that has a degree of quality about it?
I have a T-Mobile generic holder and its CR*P - I certainly wouldn't use it to hold a device worth around £400 - your choice - the position is down to what suits you and the style of mount/ Pro clip available for your car - or go with the cheap offerings and take a chance - Mike
thanks for the reply mike,
i think i will go with a nice decent holder.
i looked ath the herbert rickter mount in the post, and the verdict is that it vibrates.
would it be correct to say that all windscreen mounts vibrate?
i have been using the regular tomtom on the windscreen. so i am used to that.
does a pda on the air vent enable easy viewing for navigation purposes (i guess one gets used to it)
are all the herbert richter's the screen mounts.
what is pro clip?

Well I trust my device to a £3.50 flexible windscreen mount from ebay, and it works perfectly!
I've tried vent mounts, but they are generally rubbish - but it could be my vents! I've tried magnetic ones but they don't stick to my dash - it could be my dash! So far, the windscreen one has been perfect! Although it did wiggle about a bit until I 'adjusted' it by getting it to rest against the instrument console. Not a judder out of it now! and I highly recommend it and the £36.50 saving

what is the make of your windscreen mda holder?
It was this one
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160072850929&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:UK:11
but I was mistaken about the price, sorry. It was 99p +£2.99 postage
EDIT: they are being sold by someone else now

and the postage is only £1.99
thanks for the reply,
i went to the site and though it says that 5 are available i cant seem to be able to buy it.
i think they are all sold out. if you come across any other holders do let me know.
Search ebay for
"Air Vent Mount Suction Car Holder"
there are quite a few
I personally use a Brodit mount attached to a Dashmout bracket.
The wives Vario also uses a brodit mount but attched using a Brodit Proclip, nice and easy to install.
See attched for my car. Need a new pic with the phone attched.

O bought the ECS-k1e1 car mount for the Galaxy Note, but it does not really let me position the device te way I want (due in part to the limited angles, and that there is another device mounted on the windscreen that I cannot move).
I *do* like the actual clip of the ECS-K1E1 with the power connector, but not the backend whic his too rigid.
Is there a swan-nek device that could fit the device-end clip of the ECS-K1E1 (vie those 4 tabs that lock into its back?
Any hints appreciated.
This 4 hole thing is called herbert richter or hr-mount.
http://www.hrautocomfort.de/eng/ under mobile mounting - goos neck you find what you need.
So I have a pro clip (http://www.proclipusa.com/) and have been using it for a few years now (since my iPhone 3GS) and every time I swap out the Holder for my new phone (obviously).
I really like their style because it's pretty minimalist and doesn't involve suction cups. HOWEVER, the latest one I have been using for my iphone 4s (with bumper) was less than stellar (This: http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionp...r=false&have_mount=true&p_pageid=16488&dtype= )
They started using a 'one size fits all' type of product where you basically size your devise and screw in the adjustable sides. The sides ALWAYS slip and I have to re-tighten them. It's really a pain.
It also appears that they don't have support YET for the HTC One (another bummer).
I want to keep Vehicle mount and I am wondering if there is a way to hybridize the custom vehicle mount with something like this: http://www.amazon.com/GreatShield-Windshield-Dashboard-Universal-Holster/dp/B0090SB1CE/
Again, trying to stay away from the window suction cups which seems nearly unavoidable.
Anyone find a good solution to the proclips problem? Really unfortunate that they chose to skimp on quality and haven't updated for the ONE...
I've been checking the proclip website for an HTC One mount as well. As you said, no such luck so far.
One possible (but not very elegant) solution involves the HTC One official car dock (D160 or whatever the model number is). HTC dock uses a suction cup and comes with a flat plastic disc with a sticky pad on one side. The normal use for that disc is to stick it on your dashboard to create the flat and glossy surface ideal for the suction cup at the bottom of the actual dock. It should be possible to stick this disc to the proclip vehicle mount and suction-mount the official HTC car dock on top of it.
As I said, not very elegant, but it is one way to convert your proclip vehicle mount to a suction mount point. And you can probably go back to a proclip device docks by removing the sticky disk in the future.

Hmm, that may be something to look into. At least for the time being until ProClip comes out with something...
Wonder how long it takes for them to announce a new device mount...

Personally I haven't been too impressed with ProClip in the last few years. The holder they had for the Galaxy S3 was really expensive. Too expensive for what it was...
I'm happy that we have an official car dock from HTC.
The ProClip holders for the HTC One are in production. Within 1-2 weeks they will have them in stock. Just send them an email to get on the notification list. [email protected]
Attached is an image of their HTC One holder with a USB/Car charger. The other standard ones they will have as well.
Proclip sells a suction cup disc: http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de.../suction-cup-dashboard-disc-710643-14367.aspx
I'm not sure if it just uses two-sided tape to attach or if there are screw holes so you can attach it properly. Unfortunately the link for the install instructions is broken so I can't really tell.
EDIT: Just sent an email to Proclip to see if it uses adhesive or a screw.
EDIT 2: Got a response, there is adhesive on the back so it's no better than any other disc out there.
