Hi I've tried every rom here. Most have issues. Mostly storage space, camera, video ,sound, battery, etc. Mildwild 4.9 in my opinion is by far the best if launcher pro is installed. I hate it when you install a rom with a storage script only to be informed storage space is low. This happens on nearly all gb roms. I've tried MW 8, 9.5 , jelly Ginger and my music player crashed after 10 minutes. I tried various players and the same. MW 4.9 has know issues for me and is awesome.

Ok.. Good for you. And the point of this thread is..
To let people know how good older roms are and how happy I am with the rom I'm using. Also most threads are people asking or complaining bout what they want. Go buy a new phone if they aint happy.

regarding storage space, just sounds like you haven't set these roms up properly. most roms, GB in particular, definitely do not have these issues. did you partition your sd card correctly (4ext recovery or gparted) and have the correct hboot for the rom? this makes a huge difference, and if done properly will always allow for a reasonable number of apps to be installed regardless of rom and script.
people's definition of 'stable' varies here, but we all find our own personal favourites. however, app storage should not be a problem on nearly all custom roms. it's one of if not the primary reason why we use them!

Well, besides not being able to have a spare battery in your pocket with the Nexus 4, there is no major disadvantage with an unremovable battery. It can be changed easily by undoing some screws.
My Experiences with MildWild Oxygen 4.7, 4.8, 4.9
What are your experiences with 4.7, 4.8 or 4.9?
I have flashed MildWild Oxygen ROM 4.7 to my HTC Desire.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1353861
It runs very smooth and is fine so far. Fast, long battery life. Perfect!:good:
BUT unfortunately: WLAN does not connect to ANY WLAN connection anymore.
The mobile finds access points, but when try to connect, it will always try to get an IP address, but it does not get one.
I happens with any kind of encryption (even with set to "none"). The MAC addresses have been given to all the routers I have tried.
MW ROM 4.8 did not work at all for me when flashing. It just wont boot even do a full wipe.
MW ROM 4.9 I have not tested yet. Can you recommend? Will it work with my European version?
Any help for me with the WLAN problem?
Thanks.
4.9 works perfect for me. I changed to launcher pro and its smooth as butter. Wifi works fine.

Interesting to hear that MW 4.9 is running smooth as honey! Ever tried MW 4.8?
Since I have this ugly WLAN issue w/ MW 4.7, I would be tempted to try MW 4.9.
However, honestly, I would not like to spend time to re-install ALL apps and configure my mobile over once again.
What would be a more elegant way?
Would you recommend to do a nandroid backup, flash MW 4.9, do a full wipe. How can I restore my settings and apps?
Titanium Backup? I have read that this tool is great, but also heard that only the PRO version will do the job automatically. Is that right?
Thanks.

i doubt the wifi issue is rom related, more likely radio.
try flashing the latest one from here, extract the radio.img and flash it through fastboot (search for guides). this may fix your wifi issues.
with regards to updating to 4.9, you can nandroid backup and flash straight over the top without wiping anything, you won't lose any data and you won't need to restore anything.
if that doesn't work, then you will have to full wipe. titanium backup is a good way to bakcup apps and data, though you are correct that only the pro version allows automatic batch restore (the app is still worth paying for imo, other features too). other apps might allow batch backup and restore so search around.
I use go backup pro it works well

Thanks for pointing out the radios. I have already installed the latest radio. So this should not be issue, right?
Well, maybe I am going to give MW 4.9 a try. good to hear that I should not loose data.
Full wipe is necessary, because I do a downgrade right? Why is a full wipe necessary here?
Thanks.

i flashed this ROM mildwwild 4.9 j.g but it looks awesome Rom except the Arabic:crying::crying: Language issue

yes, it is worth it but it does not have sense so if you are a fan of it you might want to flash leedroid
Define "performance".... apps opening faster? yes. Keep in mind, you will have a new launcher.
Battery life? Definately. I have about a 90% battery life improvement over my stock Desire ROM. Keep in mind, my phone is an east european model, compared to branded phones in the US, which means I didn't get bloatware installed.
Also, when you upgrade to CyanogenMod7, you can install setcpu, and overclock your processor. In addition, I run profiles to throttle back the processor speed if the battery reaches a certain percentage.
I can run, normal usage (without films) at least 2 days without recharge.
I run their RC3, just can't seem to think why I should update to their "stable" version. The only noticable thing I see, is that screen brightness doesn't seem to hold (get brighter). But a tiny annoyance.
Also, I would suggest updating the normal way to 2.29 first. I'm not an android programmer by any means, but have heard it also flashes the radio version, which can be important when flashing custom ROMs.
CyanogenMod has put tons of work into their ROM. Probably more than anybody out there. You won't be dissappointed.
There are a couple of other good ROMs out there as well. Oxygen, Gingervillian, and Muiu (spelling). But I only read about them.
If you have any problems, please ask BEFORE you brick your phone.

Yeah, forgot about sense, but really, I don't see much of a difference between running stock HTC and CyanogenMod.
Or maybe I am ignorant (staring at too many posts for too many days)
Sense has left me......

They added some options for video, mostly effects. I like the B/W for video. Camera quality is good. No difference from stock as far as I can see.
A lot more control as far as how your phone behaves (animations, etc). In fact, more options than I need.
You will miss some of the stock widgets though. And will have to get from the market.
Currently, I'm in the process of extracting the APK's from HTC's zip (between extreme beer sessions), and will see if they work correctly. They had a good Office app. and the weather widget.
If you do flash, you will need to also get the flash file for google apps and flash both at the same time. Then, afterwords, you can go to the market again, and get what you need.
Ohhhhh.... root your phone first.
already rooted my phone.. download rom manager from market.. probably will be using it to install cm7

I prefer to install it the old fashioned way, rather than Rom Manager. Although it's nice to flash the clockwork recovery.
I copy it to the root, goto hboot, recovery, wipe all caches, then run both updates. Cyan and googleapps
Remember, to a recovery backup on your phone, BEFORE flashing any new ROM.
They have TONS of instructions here.
Good luck.
i am going to follow this guide
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Desire_(GSM):_Full_Update_Guide
is it for cyanogenmod 6 or is it also valid for cm7?
installed cm7 finally.. got some issues but finally it's fine... only thing i couldn't install yet is app2sd... ext formatting done through rom manager doesn't seem to work... and i missed installation of the gmail app (i installed google addons for cm7) and when i started the phone, it asked whether to download and install gmail app.. i skipped thinking i would be able to install it later or recover it from my titanium backup...
i could not install it later.... and i messed up with my backup (i forgot to copy the license file...darn... i only copied the titanium backup folder thinking everything was there)..
first impressions.. i miss htc sense... not a big fan of adw launcher and most widgets not as good as htc sense ones... battery does not seem to be better.. is actually a buit worse than the stock rom (which was good imo)... maybe i need to re-calibrate my battery?
haven't installed a lot of apps yet so can't evaluate performance for now (performance was good on stock rom until i installed lots of apps and moved them to sd)... cm7 is more ugly than stock rom imo. will continue to use it and get more used to it... but overall.. i am missing stock rom... ( a lot of features seem missing or need fixing in cm7)
Hello guys,
I posted this problem in leedroid's thread as well did not get any replies. I would really appreciate if any is kind enough to explain these major terms related to flashing of roms......i.e.
Kernel
Radio
S-off vs Radio-off
Stock Kernel vs Other Kernels
Besidws, this I have one issue, that my Lee HD Rom is a little bit lagging.
I am using the Lee Droid HD 3.0.3. I am pretty much new to flashing roms and in fact this is my first ever installation.
Also, I never installed any radio because I do not know what is it for?
I also did not install the stock kernel, again because I do lot know what is the first one for and why we need 2. Please be generous to my lack of knowledge.
Also, I have done a full wipe and everything. Any ideas, if installing the radio will help on getting rid of lagging abd making it run a bit smoother.

Ok i'll give this a shot.
Kernel - This is pretty much the backbone of the phone. It contains all the drivers, such as graphic driver, audio, touch driver, sensors etc. So optimizations in the kernel really improve overall performance. Lee probably has the best kernels.
Radio - This is responsible for functions such as wifi, bluetooth, phone signal. Pretty much all wireless functions.
S-OFF vs. Radio S-OFF - ok here my knowledge may be a little rusty. From what i remember, if you have ENG S-OFF, then you are able to flash the recover (CWM) and roms, and with Radio-OFF you are able to run fastboot commands as well as downgrade your radio version. Again not too sure on this one.
Stock Kernel vs. Other Kernel - well like i said earlier, the kernel contains all the drivers, so obviously a custom one will have optimizations here such as increased audio levels, improved GPU performance, overclocking CPU, and so on.
Ok as for you comment on Leedroid lagging, that is very unusual because imo Leedroid is the smoothest Sense experience around. After a full wipe fresh install there should be no lag, then reinstall your apps from the market (not Titanium), and after that's done restore only Data from Titanium. This will ensure there's no conflicts with apps which could be causing your lag somehow.
I really recommend you read up on flashing radios. You probably have an old one which does not match your rom version. It's always recommended to match your rom version with radio version. If they are not matching, then you could get bad signal and battery drain. Here's a guide on how to install radios:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597
And here you can get the radio for your rom version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295
Recommended for Leedroid is the Radio from 28 April 2011.
Since you are on Leedroid 3.0.3, there's no need for the stock kernel. Leedroid's kernel is WAY better, trust me So dont worry about that.
Ok so just to bring the point across more clear, these are the steps i suggest you follow for installing the rom and ensuring there's no problems.
-Backup all apps with Titanium
-In CWM perform full wipe
-Install Leedroid (I suggest you go for his newer version 3.1.0, it's much smoother)
-Once booted up let the market reinstall your apps (not titanium)
-Then use Titanium to restore data only after all apps have finished installing.
-Perform a full reboot for apps to restore data correctly.
-At this point i would follow the guide to install the radio.
And that should be it. Damn that's a mountain of text. Hope you (or anybody else) finds this helpful

Thanks a lot mate, just gonna backup my apps now for flashing the new version. Really appreciate your help and concern.
Just 2 more quick questions:
1) There are 3 options in Tit Backup:
#Backup all user apps or Backup all system data or Backup all user apps+System Data (which is better you reckon)
2) Is the radio to be installed in the end after installing all backups and apps and everything.

Hey there,
hmm lets see. Choose "Backup all user apps + system data. And when you finally install your apps choose "Restore all apps with data". Ok after selecting that make sure to tick "Data only" and here's the important bit, make sure to scroll through and untick all red system apps. Hopefully you have Titanium Pro because i think in the lite version you might have to do all this manually.
As for radio, truthfully it doesnt matter at all whether you flash it before or after the rom. You can choose because the radio is totally separate from the rom.
Hope this helps. Good luck and let me know if you run into any problems (which you shouldn't )

Hehe no problem dood
I did install everything as instructed and I was indeed very happy with the smoothness. I was loving it until I installed all my apps again ad started inserting ma widgets. After I was done, the lagging came back.
Just to let you know, I am using Folder organizer widgets on 2 home screens. News' widgets on one, Friend Stream on one and People Widget on one. Some shortcuts on 1, Music Player, Evernote, Flixter, Htc Weather Animations, widget locker,
I think too may apps must be doing it......any suggestions. I am ok to start getting rid of apps. All I want is perfomance.
PS: DO You think set cpu would be any help, Downloaded it but not so sure on how to use it ??

Well then it must be an app causing this. If i were you i would download one app at a time and check between installs to see if you still retain the smoothness. This way you can pinpoint the culprit. From the apps you mentioned i wouldn't be able to guess which one is responsible.
SetCPU is always good to have maybe for benchmarking but for general use not necessary. I don't use Setcpu yet i still have a super smooth experience.
Alright......Thanks. I think I would go for another wipe today.
Thanks for replying in lee's thread mate but more than information about flashing, I desire to understand the concept of md5 checksums.
Also, everyone keeps saying check the 'md5 sum' but with what should I match the kernel's md5 checksum........ROM or Radio or both? If I have to match it to ROM, does that mean the new kernel isn't compatible with the older version of ROM because how I understand it that the ROM v3.1.1 (the one am using) and new Kernel v3.1.4 will not really have same value for md5 checksum......isn't it?
I hope it does make sense, Thanks.

An md5 checksum is simply a code attached to a file. So if you download a file and the md5 is different from the correct one (the one Lee provides), that means there is a difference in the file. So it could mean a corrupt download.
So what you do is download the rom or kernel, generate the md5 sum yourself with an app or program on your pc. This is the number specific to the file you just downloaded. Then you check to see if that matches the same number Lee provides for that same file. If it matches, then the file is exactly the same (not corrupt).
You can use this application to check the md5 of your files.
http://www.mediafire.com/?wuo55vkemcbbyxr
Simply drag the file into the exe and it will open up with a long string of numbers and letters.
So to give an example, you download Lee's latest rom, drag the file into that md5sums.exe i linked, then it gives the code. Check to see if it's the same as the one Lee wrote next to the download link for the rom.
Hope im understandable.
Thanks man. I think using astro file manager for taking the md5 sum is far easier...isn't it?
And you always are understandable.....
Take care

Hello everyone,
a quick summary of the situation: I got a wildfire S from my girlfriend, complaining for too little space for apps. I decided to go for the rooting procedure (I did it last year with my p500, but my memories are kinda foggy). The phone info are as follows:
Android 2.3.5, HTC sense 2.1, software number 2.26.401.3, baseband 47.23e.35.3038H_7.57.39.10M
So now it's rooted, with recovery, and ready to be used with link2sd. Here come my doubts:
- first of all, I did a backup using the recovery, which I understand is a nandroid back up. Does it mean I am safe and I will be able to go back to square one every time I feel like it?
- the phone itself works fine with its own stock rom. The real main issue was the lack of space for apps. Now that I also rooted it, I might even get rid of some of the HTC apps that are quite annoying. Point is: does it make sense to "clean up" the stock rom, or should I go for a cooked rom instead?
- and here's where we come to the title of the thread: I'm having a hard time finding a ROM that is a clean version of the stock one. It seems like everyone wants to go for the latest version of the OS, but doing so seems to me a trade off with stability and compatibility. Shouldn't it be easy to find a simple ROM based on 2.3.x, with everything working, but cleaned of all the crap installed by HTC (not the sense interface per se, I don't mind that, but some of the other apps seem kind of useless to me). Am I missing something?
Just to be clear, I'm not criticizing in any way, I'm only trying to understand. I feel like I am missing lots of pieces of the puzzle
So, if anyone has 5 minutes to spare and wants a big "thank you", any insight and or suggestion will be very appreciated.

Yes you can go back when you want to
There are some cooked stock roms that support init.d and some other stuff. So tweaking the rom is possible. Link2sd isn't enough for maximum storage so you can partition your SD card and try cronmod int2ext
If you like stable and reliable stock rom then I guess you can give this a try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37855587
This rom has all the HTC apps but you can remove it and the storage will greatly increase if you use int2ext so it doesn't really matter
There are always other roms such as cm7 and cm9 which are quite stable too

init.d allows loading scripts at boot, right? Why do you say thath Link2sd isn't enough? I've been playing with it a bit yesterday, monitoring space usage with diskusage and appears to do what it is supposed to.

Thanks, I'll give them a shot. Just out of curiosity, to remove the HTC apps I can use link2sd, right? From what I understand, deleting system apps does not give more space because the system and data partition maintain the same size. So I might as well freeze them instead of removing them. Is this the reason you suggest to use int2ext?

Besides the coolness of having the most recent OS, how would you rate the trade off between plus and minuses of going for the newer version? As in "youtube doesn't work, but the OS i sooooooo much better that I don't care" kind of thing.

Yeap. Because if you use link2sd you'll eventually reach a limit as I tried. And the storage will keep gettig full.
Yeap you can use link2sd I personally like to remove it because the menu looks messy and I have to scroll a lot to find my favourite apps so its your choice on whether you wanna remove it or not because int2ext increases your storage as it mounts sd-ext to.... I don't really get this stuff too but whatever
So far the latest android for the wfs is cm10. It is quite stable as YouTube, autobrightness and loads of stuff work. But the disadvantage is that its quite laggy and is a battery killer.
There is cm9 too. Its really smooth but there are bugs such as YouTube HQ videos playback, camcorder not fully supported and crap

After testing all the versions of Andriod 4, I have to say that I'm not impressed with the direction that Android is going. Still way too many problems and I'm sick of the color cyan. I think Gingerbread is going to be "Windows XP" for Google. Ten years later people are still using Windows XP because it's a good OS, Gingerbread is a good version of Android. I'll continue to use it until I'm forced to upgrade.
So after many hours of searching, finally manage to rebuild a AT&T stock Gingerbread 2.3.5 LG-P930-V10f-Oct-31-2011 rom. After I got it up and running, I made a TWRP backup before adding and deleting apps and sign-in to google account. So if anyone wants a copy of this backup, I'll post it on my 4Shared account. I'm going to make another backup with all the stock AT&T apps uninstalled. The apps that won't uninstall but are still considered bloatware and the LG Update app will be blocked from loading. I'll post a link after it's uploaded.
We have this.. Ho!No! Made a backup of all stock roms quite some time ago.
As for GB, I'd have to say that at least upgrading to stock ICS is my recommendation as many apps require 4.0+ and in my opinion, many bugs were fixed and some really important features added from GB to ICS (not to mention ICS to JB).
Just a suggestion.

I remember running CM9 without any issues. I still sometimes consider going back to it for its stability and battery life. Some ICS ROMs can work just fine. Its a matter of finding one that works and that you like.

I can't imagine myself using GB. Not in this age anymore.

Scotsman What is the format of your image file (not your TWRP backup). Is it .IMG, .KDZ or .TOT?
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda app-developers app
I used .img files from "[Guide] Unbricking Solution for LG Nitro HD (P930)" and ADB to flash the .img files into my phone after a complete wipe. I wanted to have a TWRP backup for people to use instead of having to go through the entire unbrick process. All they'll have to do is put the backup file into their TWRP backup folder. I've done all the work of getting rid of the AT&T stuff and disabled the LG auto update. This is a debloated pure stock backup. I really like my phone now. Was having too many problems from CyanogenMod. I used to be a must have "bleeding edge Android" guy, but now I just want my phone to work without having to reboot it twice a day.
I'll upload the file after the 8th and the forum mod can add it to the repository list.

The sole purpose of the unbricking guide IS to install recovery since LG's kdz installer technically unbricks your phone. So IMO it defeats the purpose of your TWRP unless you want an alternative to doing a factory reset. One question: Have you installed one of the stock versions of ICS and did you also have stability issues? If you did you probably have one of the early p930's that had hardware problems. If that's the case you are better off with Gingerbread.

No, that's the point. I don't like Android 4.x.x The problems were lousy cpu and ram management. After reboot my phone would be fast and responsive. But after a few hours, the lag was terrible. Even after shutting down apps that auto launch the lag was still bad.
Now that I have Gingerbread back on it with all AT&T bloadware and some LG stuff deleted, my phone is not lagging and I've had it on for 3 days straight, no reboots.
I didn't come on here to banter about which version of Android is better. I just wanted to help those who are looking to go back to stock Gingerbread without a large hassle to do so. All people will have to do is put the backup file into their TWRP backup folder, do a phone wipe, then use my backup to go back to stock. Easy peasy!

I personally have found that GB is slow especially with screen transitions and horrible battery life. As far as ICS and lag I have fixed that try out NitroTNT v2. Great battery life and lag free as long as you don't use a ram manager. It has the bloat removed and I get over 12 hours use with over 2 hours of screen time and 2 hours+ of phone use. Try it and let me know what you think.

This is a really good version of Gingerbread, it's working very well for me.
You're not reading my posts. I don't like Android 4 in any version. I'll wait for Android 5 and hope major improvements have been made. By then this Nitro will ready for the recycle bin.

OK its your phone I was just saying I fixed what you stated you didn't like about android 4. If you are interested in having the latest version of GB there is a v10i that was released in January of this year by LG for the p936 that works perfectly for our nitro. This is what I use as my unbricking platform. Just let me know and I will see about getting it to you.

Hello everyone.
I have this device for a long time now. And it's time now to move on.
What I wanted to ask you people is; Should I unroot and go on stock ruu or should I keep my phone like this?
Why I ask this is: I simply can't find a ROM that works without problems.
On KK ROMs I always had freezes and I have to pull out the battery.
On JB ROMs I had random reboots.
On ICS roms I had random reboots.
On GB ROMs it was always something, either freezes, reboots.
The only ROM that was lets say great is MIUI-XJ but, I flashed it yesterday but I mobile data connection doesn't work and I dont know how to fix it.
I will give the phone to my dad and he doesn't need root or anything. Just something stable that works.
Is there a custom ROM that someone of you uses and that has no random reboots/freezes? If so, could you please give me a link to it.
Or if not, should I unroot and go stock? If so, can anyone give me a guide how to do it?
Big thanks!
As a general rule of thumb, GB ROMs for Desire will be more stable. Don't know which particular ROMs you had which rebooted, most I tried were very stable, though it's been a while.
Make sure you set up everything correctly. Most ROMs require an sd-ext partition on the sdcard, should be done with gparted or 4EXT recovery only.
However, if it's now for your dad, and he doesn't really need root or custom ROM or care about any of this, I'd personally recommend the 2.3.3. GB RUU to avoid issues. On a custom ROM, he'll likely come to you for help when / if things go wrong or he doesn't understand some crazy setting
The only caveat with stock ROM is if he needs to install many apps...it will run out of memory very quickly.

Well mate I always made an ext partition via 4EXT recovery. Tried with 512mb, with 1gb but there was always somthing that doesnt work correctly >.<
The last thing I flashed is Mildwild 5.0. The rom is ULTRA but ULTRA fast, but I still had 2 random freezes.
Well tbh, he uses mostly Whatsapp. And calls ofcourse. So that with apps wont be a big problem. I might install ebay, skype and maybe one or two more apps. So I think there wont be a big problem with memory.
But still, I'd like to keep the phone rooted because its easier to fix something on a rooted phone, atleast for me.
Any tips what else should I try? Preferably GB or ICS rom. I still find those two most stable and fastest.
Although I've tried with zillion of roms, maybe I have missed one. Doesnt matter how old the rom is, I just wanna something that works and thats 2.3+.
Thanks

Good, so the partition itself was never the problem, as long as it wasn't anything bigger than ~2GB. 512MB or 1GB wouldn't have made any difference, only that 512MB would be a lot more limiting for app space.
I used that ROM myself, maybe a rare random reboot, but don't think I ever had a complete freeze. No way of knowing the cause without a logcat, or knowledge of any apps, kernel, radio version, or other mods.

I'd still start him out with stock ROM and see if it suits him first. Let him test it for a few days with his setup. At least it will be stable. To be honest I've also tried rooting other people's phones, in a lot of cases they don't really care about anything but the main apps. There shouldn't really be anything for you to fix on stock if all he uses is whatsapp
If you have tried that many ROMs there's something with your setup which is clashing somewhere. May even be the sdcard itself, don't know. Most GB ROMs especially were/are rock solid. Don't know what else to suggest apart from CM, oxygen, redux based ones + compatible A2SD method for apps space.

Aight thanks mate. I will still try few more ROMs, maybe I've missed a GB one somewhere.
But yeah, if I decide to go stock, should I do it via PB99IMG or via pc? And, which stock version should I get? Im from Europe, device bought in Croatia.
Cheers!

RUU can run by whichever method works, doesn't really matter. Personally I like the PB99IMG method in this situation as it's a big file to flash, and does not rely on usb cable or computer drivers etc. Use the 2.3.3 GB RUU, doesn't requite a goldcard
