To All,
First Time poster....
I've been recently flashing new custom roms, and have settled down [for now] with The People's Rom (TPR). I've flash the rom and have to say its pretty stable even OC'ing it. I am however STILL having problems getting Adobe flash to work with it.
I have installed browsers (i.e., Dolphin HD, & Chrome) and have also attempted to use the stock browser and I can not get flash to work.
Here's what I am doing:
First, I prefer to use Dolphin HD, and in the past with either the stock rom or other custom roms, I install an older version of Dolphin HD (8.51 apk version) that allows me to actually turn on flash, then I install an older of version of flash labeled "install_flash_player_ics.apk) and adobe.air (verision 3.0.0.408). This has always worked. Unfortunately with this rom, I can't for the live of me get it to work properly, I have googled and googled and have attempted different version of both flash and air and STILL no joy!
I have attempted the same process above and used Chrome and the stock browser and not can not get it to work.
As a side note, when I flashed roms, I do a full clean install and follow these steps:
Wipe Data/Factory reset x3
Wipe Cache x 3
Wipe Dalvic Cache x3
Format System
Format Data
Format Cache
Wipe Dalvic Cache
---
Install ROM
Wipe Cache & Dalvic Cache
Install Kernel (Optional)
Wipe Cache & Dalvic Cache --- (Dont need to do this if your not installing a different kernel)
Install GAPPS
Wipe Cache & Dalvic Cache
Fix Permissions
Reboot
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Is there something I am missing?
Thanks,
Your using TPR you said? Which uses Aroma installer. During the aroma installer it gives you a choice to install your kernel of choice, it also gives you the option to install flash. It's part of the system apps. Now this is a TW rom which includes all gapps. Why on earth are you flashing kernels and gapps?
By the way questions and help request go in Q&A section. This thread will probably be moved.

You need to grab the Flash Player for 4.0+ from the Adobe archives

Yes I am using TPR. When I used the Aroma installer, I selected the Ktoonsez kernel when I was given the choice. I dont' recall the flash option though.....
As for your comments about flashing GAPPS/Kernels, those are optional steps (as I indicated in my OP)...so in this case, I did NOT do those steps.
Should I reflash the rom again?
thanks

OK, I reflashed the TPR rom and NO WHERE did it give an option to select flash. Aroma stepped me through the install and gave me options to (1) select kernel, (2) type of launcher, and (3) install ALL apps or custom apps. With regards to the last option (3). I chose ALL apps, but just to confirm, I went into the custom apps selection drop down and it did NOT show Adobe flash as an option at all. I went ahead with the 'All' option, booted into OS and logged into google account as required and immediately launched the stock browser and attempted to load serveral flash enabled websites (like espn for example). Browser said flash was NOT installed.
I am running the latest version 3.15 of the TPR rom and I did not see the option you previously mentioned. I am I missing something? Flash NOT installed on my phone!!!
Thx
Ok just for you I went through the whole flash process, if you look clearly in this picture there's a choice for Adobe Flash Player.

It's the next screen right after that last one, select custom install and keep going it has to be there. If not you have a bad download.

Nope, I tried AGAIN and the only custom app options to install are the GApps...no others....
As for a bad download....I got the file via a link right here in the developer's section of this website for this rom. Do you have a verified link that you know works? If so, would you be so kind as to provide that to me?
Thanks,

No, not a bad download as in from the incorrect place. A bad download as in a corrupt file, which happens more often than you would think.
Try downloading the file again (from that same link) and check the md5sum of it against what dev-host provides. (Check the guide in my sig for how to check md5sums)

I believe you were almost there in your video... You went to the "Customize my install" option, but stopped at the Google Apps... I believe if you select one of the google apps and then click next, it'll get you to the "Additional Apps" page that edfunkycold showed you. I can't tell from your video, but it looks like you just clicked back from the Google Apps section. I'm downloading the ROM right now to verify (30 minutes left, slow internet here at work), but that's how it was on 3.14 (the latest version I have on my SD card).

Man, if that's the case....that sure is a really really funky way to offer additional optional apps to install. NONE of the directions I've read about the installation process give you that information.....I would have NEVER figured that out if that is the case!
I will wait for you to d/l and run your install and let know if that is the case. If you notice in my video, when I select the custom apps to install, the only apps available to me are the GApps. I attempt to scroll down....I get nothing. I attempt to scroll left-to-right....I get nothing....
BTW, in the video you saw, I clicked back and installed ALL apps...so you would think Flash would be install correct???? Well each of the 4 times, I've installed and used ANY browser, various sites tell me Flash is NOT installed!
Maybe you will have some luck!

You mean within the custom menu with the GApps listing? There is no next button there...that sub-menu is limited to only GApps relates .apks. The only way to get out of that sub-meu is to hit the back page...
Are you certain that by selecting the GApps apks, that it will send you to an additional menu?
Regardless, If I selected install ALL apps, it SHOULD of installed flash....but it doesn't work!!!

I have Midnight ROM v4.0 on my sd card and was wondering if all I have to do now is boot into CW3 and flash the rom. I've tried installing roms before and failing so I'm asking for help now.
Thanks in advance.
You got the hard part done.
Turn off device
3finger into CM3...toggle down to install zip from sd.. push camera button for yes then choose zip from sd...push camera button for yes select midnight rom push camera button for yes and install. Takes along time to install and boot the first time dont freak and make sure you read midnights install instructions
If you want the full rom, be sure to install the second .zip in the midNIGHT extras folder on your sd card.

yes you need to flash 4.1 after 4.0 and also flash files you want from midnight extras folder. Maybe you can try the syndicate rom frozen loaded edition for your first rom its a one shot flash, very simple.
I will have to check out out. From what I've read and seen midnight rom is the one I want to use though.
Thanks for all the help !

So I flashed both 4.0 and 4.1 and now I'm getting an error that is force closing everything. What now?
Edit:
I believe this is the part where I go and flash in the extras to get stuff working. am I right?

Hmmm. So I got a phone call today from my step grandparents today and ignored it. Then for some reason my phone restarted itself 2 or 3 times. Did I forget to install something?
Possibly, what did you install from the extras folder? I just do the standard edition update and delete what I don't want. That will give you everything but sprint bloat.

I didn't install much. I ended up Flashing the new Syndicate ROM and am loving it as well. Midnight ROM looks way better but Syndicate's Frozen ROM makes my phone feel way quicker. I'm torn as to which one I want to use.
Use what you feel is best. I have been using the midnight roms for a while and haven't had any issues.

Love the thread.
This qualifies even more the need for XDA to enable the "Wiki Post"
It would reside in the original thread, and everyone could edit it, instead of requiring one individual to update biz every day.
My calendar won't show my gmail account. And in settings\accounts when I go into accounts I don't see the option to choose a calendar. books, currents, contacts.. are all there. Just the calendar is missing.

Hmmm, what CyanogenMod version does it say in about phone?
also, how did you go about getting that version on your phone?
was it a clean flash; meaning wipe data, cache partition and dalvik
flash rom
flash gapps (this may be your issue) did you use 20120215 verison?

I can confirm that this issue is a result of not flashing the current GAPPS properly. Reboot into recovery and reflash GAPPS from the new download link.
So for an update for .03 to .04 can we get a way with:
Wipe Cache Partition
Mounts and Storage -> Format /system
Mounts and Storage -> Format /boot
Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache
and finally Install ROM then gapps.
I am going through them all again. I need the calendar more than I need to make calls.

make sure you use this link
http://goo-inside.me/gapps click under MDPI where it says 20122015 and flash that zip for gapps.
okay...here is a question that has been bugging me:
What causes MMC_delayed_work wake lock? Is it just one thing or is this an Android dump for all sorts of crap? Is it 100% normal and part of the ICS experience?
I have Googled it to no end and came back with nothing concrete....signaling the fact that it is way over my head.
Even returning to stock and then flashing CM9 anew (no apps) does not make it go away.
My batt life is fine now after disabling the LED (which interestingly also reduced MMC wake lock greatly) but if I could get rid of this MMC nightmare it could be amazing.

That is the one I used. After going through all the steps again I still don't have a calendar sync option. I've even removed the account and re-added it back. I really don't want to do a factory reset because I'll probably have to chase down the Good admin for a new key.
You answered your own question....the led notification is the main reason other than the os poling the sd card for data/apps.

I take no credit for this application just trying to help people out. This application will let you combine multiple zips Check this thread out. It will combine multiple zips into one big zip which you flash through recovery. By having all your zip in one it will save lots of time by eliminating the task of flashing one zip at a time which takes awhile You can have your kernel zip, recovery zip, backed up apps zip, rom zip etc. all in one shot. All credit as I stated goes to jcspecs not me . Just trying to help others save time and headaches of having to redo everything flashing roms so I thought I let people know about this application who don't know about it yet. Check it out here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973102

Some say it didn't work for them but it worked for me. You have to have net 4.0 framework on your computer and java as it states in the thread. You just download the application open it find the zips that you want to combine that's on your computer and once it verifies the files hit the combine button. It will take alittle while but once it's done your zip will be in Final Outputs folder and ready to flash in recovery. Great idea I think better than App2Zip or Titanium Backup since you can combine more than just backed up apps.

Seems interesting enough, though I would like to note (for those who don't know) that TWRP comes with the option to flash multiple files at once, and it's highly recommended by many (if not most) developers around here.
Either way, this at least provides a similar option for those who are more comfortable with CWM recoveries.

Valid point I use cwm myself. Just thought I would let some people know about an alternative action in flashing multiple zips.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
install goomanager and use theirs works so much better than cwm lets you pick 10 zips in the order you want than flashes them one after the next no flashing one at a time its better than sticking everything in the same zip this way you have control of the order and flashing is faster i love it.
CWM already let's you flash multiple zips. Just enable advanced mode in settings.

When you go to flash a file, and you get to the part where it has you swipe to confirm the flash, look above that swipe bar and you'll see an option to choose another zip to flash.
Personally, I still do it one at a time (old habit I suppose), but I accidentally used the option once and it seemed to work well enough.

Thanks I don't really use rom manager have trust issues with it from the past. But it's good to know that option is available now in rom manager.
I just got my phone and had to do alot of reading on how to just root it...I couldnt stop there.. So I picked the ROM I liked the best.. It was the Peoples Choice ROM.... I downloaded it and installed in via CWM... It worked great for about 2 days.. Even wifi tether... Then it started to freeze and almost like it was rebooting... But the only thing that happened was the lights on the bottom would stay on... Ive had to do about 4 clean installs and everytime it freezes... Im not saying the ROM is bad.. But maybe I didnt do something right... Im new to this phone and all these different kernals, Roms etc...
All I did was d/l put on the phone via usb cable, chose a kernal during setup and still the same problem... I had to flash a stock rooted ROM because I thought I did a backup in CWM but I guess I didnt...
Please help... I dont know what I did or need to correctly do to get this ROM to work....
Are you sure the download wasn't bad? Try downloading it again and then check the md5sum to make sure, bad downloads happen more often than you'd think
Noob question... How do I check the md5sum?
On your computer, or on your phone me in terminal emulator (download md5sum for windows binary if you're doing it on your computer):

I'm a bit stumped, but maybe you could try using TWRP to flash the Roms. I'd recommend using version 2.4.1.0 in Naddict's thread, as version 2.4.4.0 doesn't seem to work as well for some people. You'll have to redo your backups, as TWRP and CWM use different methods for making nandroids, so your CWM ones won't work on TWRP.

The thread I posted you to has the various TWRP and CWM versions which are flashable from within the recoveries themselves. All you have to do is go into CWM and flash the TWRP zip in the thread.
I don't think your download was bad or the md5 check was bad. I suspect since you said it worked well for several days that at some point you downloaded a bad app or something corrupted some data. I would imagine a wipe of cache and dalvik and fixing permissions would have been the first thing you should have done before reflashing or anything else. Oh well water under the bridge now. What kernel did you choose during your installation?
Please try flashing the rom again, make sure you do factory reset, wipe dalvik and wipe cache and do a clean install. If you have any problems or questions go to the thread itself you will find that all of us are very helpful and will welcome you to The People

I wouldn't bother with TWRP just yet CWM is just fine. Try installing on a clean flash. Use the Ktoonsez kernel. And let us know here. I will keep following this thread until you can get to the main thread.

Sorry didnt read your last replay before I installed TWRP...
Something else I just noticed.. It automatically downloading apps from the market that I previously had...Is that something new?
When you set up the phone (log into Google, etc.), if you choose "backup my account to this phone" it'll automatically download all of your apps that you previously had.

I updated it yesterday and I have lost everything to do with Google, which is alot. All contacts are gone. I open Gmail, it pops open, then disappears . Same thing happens for Play store. Chrome still works though. I thought it might have to do with the SD card, but all pics are there. Please Help!!
It sounds like a bad gapps package or you forgot to flash gapps. Reflash the gapps package, that should fix things remember RC4 is 10.0 which you would use JB 4.1 gapps 10.1 is using 4.2 gapps if I'm remembering all of this correctly.

It looks like RC4 is 10.1, I attached a screenshot. Even so, I'm not the smartest person when it comes to flashing. Could you maybe guide me through reflashing gapps?

It's easy as pie!
Go to Goo.im/gapps and download the correct gapps package (for CM10.1, it'd be gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip).
Check the md5sum. ES File Explorer can calculate that for you, if you don't know how to do that.
Copy that file over to your SD Card.
Reboot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache. Flash zip.
Reboot into your Rom. Boom! Gapps are now installed.

Yeah sorry shows how much I don't keep up with CM just like Topherk said, should fix everything for you. Always remember when you use an AOSP rom you have to flash the rom and flash the gapps.

Dude, you are a life-saver!! I can't thank you enough, it was easy as Sunday morning too! Everything works fine, contacts back, play store back, voice and music messed up but nothing that uninstall>reinstall didn't fix. Now off to get the new Gmail! Thanks again for your time!:good:

Thanks for your help also man. So every time I update CM I have to get the corresponding gapp zip?

Correct whenever you flash any CM rom you also have to flash gapps. They are not allowed to include those apps with the rom itself. Touchwiz is because those roms come built with those apps already in them. Glad you got it fixed.:thumbup:
