I'm looking to install Midnight ROM v4.0.
I flashed my phone using Odin and followed the instructions in this thread:

I have Midnight ROM v4.0 on my sd card and was wondering if all I have to do now is boot into CW3 and flash the rom. I've tried installing roms before and failing so I'm asking for help now.
Thanks in advance.
You got the hard part done.
Turn off device
3finger into CM3...toggle down to install zip from sd.. push camera button for yes then choose zip from sd...push camera button for yes select midnight rom push camera button for yes and install. Takes along time to install and boot the first time dont freak and make sure you read midnights install instructions
If you want the full rom, be sure to install the second .zip in the midNIGHT extras folder on your sd card.

Oh really. good to know. I also sere there is a v4.1. Do I have to install that as well?
yes you need to flash 4.1 after 4.0 and also flash files you want from midnight extras folder. Maybe you can try the syndicate rom frozen loaded edition for your first rom its a one shot flash, very simple.
I will have to check out out. From what I've read and seen midnight rom is the one I want to use though.
Thanks for all the help !

midNight is totally worth an extra few zip flashes!!
So I flashed both 4.0 and 4.1 and now I'm getting an error that is force closing everything. What now?
Edit:
I believe this is the part where I go and flash in the extras to get stuff working. am I right?

Huzzah! Midnight ROM up and running perfectly how I want it to. I realize now that I installed it right two times before just didn't realize that I needed to go into the extras and install things from there. DUR!
Thanks again for all the help! Love this forum more every time I'm here.

Hmmm. So I got a phone call today from my step grandparents today and ignored it. Then for some reason my phone restarted itself 2 or 3 times. Did I forget to install something?
Possibly, what did you install from the extras folder? I just do the standard edition update and delete what I don't want. That will give you everything but sprint bloat.

I didn't install much. I ended up Flashing the new Syndicate ROM and am loving it as well. Midnight ROM looks way better but Syndicate's Frozen ROM makes my phone feel way quicker. I'm torn as to which one I want to use.
Use what you feel is best. I have been using the midnight roms for a while and haven't had any issues.

Yeah I'm rooted and have clocwork installed. But I don't know where to go from there when I comes to theme flashing lol

Dl the theme of choice (it'll be saved as a zip file).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but (i think) the rom yer using needs to be deodexed (basically choose a rom and kernel from the dev forum).
If the above ain't necessary for theme flashing, please let the op know.
Boot into clockwork and make a backup (i think its the 3rd choice?)
Navigate via volume keys and select via power key.
Always make a backup prior to flashing anything. Trust me on this. It has saved my ass many times.
(
If you are going to flash a rom, do that prior to flashing a theme.
If you are going to flash a rom, you will need to do a data wipe/factory restore. Then wipe your cache. Then go to advanced and choose wipe dalvik cache.
)
You do not need to wipe anything flashing a theme, but flashing a rom has the potential to overwrite the theme.
Flashing anything (rom, kernel, theme) is the same: there's an option to install a file. That menu has the choice to install from your sd card.
Navigate to your zip file, select (power key) confirm and voila.
It sounds intimidating at first, but if you've rooted and installed cw,.then the hard stuff is behind you
Good luck !

I tried the camera fix posted here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970452
I used Odin, all I get after it finishes is my phone sits on a blank screen with Samsung written on it. It never finishes booting.
Before I tried running the camera fix kernal, I used
Stock EB13 Deodexed EXT4 + CW 3.0.0.6 listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209 posted by art3mis-nyc.
It worked fine, except for the lag when rotating phone, (known issue, I was able to fix using the fix posted on the forums) and the video lag.
So I am guessing that the EB13 that I am running isn't compatible with the camera kernal update?
So...my question is, is there a patch I can get to fix that, or do I need to install a different mod? So far, I have only updated my phone via modem, and not through clockwork(which means I have more reading to do, if that is the direction I must take)
Thanks guys.
Try the Genocide 0.3a kernel. Should work perfect.

Works flawlessly for me.
Ok. On that note, the eb13 I installed says it is prerooted and has clockwork installed. How do I findclockwork to then install the Genocide? I am watching a youtube on how to use clockwork, but apparently I have no icon for it, and I tried the (hold volume down, camera button and power button at same time) and nothing happened.
I am at a loss.
1. Download the Genocide kernel .zip and copy it to your SD card.
2. Power the phone off.
3. Once completely shut down hold vol down, camera and power until you see the clockwork mod menu
4. Choose install zip from SD card and choose the kernel zip you downloaded.
5. When it says completed (after the screen flickers once or twice) choose reboot and you should be good to go.

Will I need to install a custom ROM too, or can I stick with my stock EB13?
Thanks insanity, and other posters.
I finally figured out how to get into clockwork. But the 5 minutes between posts wouldn't let me state that.
I was going to use the "trulyEpic which is about 130mb, and the genocide one I downloaded is like 8mb. Is it supposed to be so small?

I do believe the kernel works with stock eb13 as well. Give it a shot! Thats what development is all about.
And yes, around 8mb sounds about right for the kernel size.

Yes its that small. The rom includes everything for your phone. All the system stuff. That's why its so big of a file the kernel is just that so when u flash the rom u have to flash the kernel afther the rom is installed

Ok. Got ya, so since I had an eb13 rom, just flashing the genocide kernal over it, made basically the few changes he listed including the camera fix. BTW, flashed it, and camera is fixed. Big thanks to everyone.
i just picked up an e4gt today, i had one back in december that i rooted then sold. so im back and now there's a ton of stuff out there for this phone.
i just came over from the evo design where there is pretty much nothing happening, and before that i had an evo shift. i had cm7 installed on that and loved it.
so what rom do you guys suggest i use? i see there is cm9 available in alpha form, which has me very tempted.
im looking for a stable rom with no bloatware. and id love some advice.

Go with cm9 that darchstar has posted. It works great and I use it as my daily. After you do the base install I recommend nightly 7/24 and using the chris41g kernel b3 version with it. Great battery life and full functionality.

Does cm9 wipe out cwm?
I'm paranoid to do anything without an option for recovery.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Here is your safest bet (as in super safe):
1. Download the el26 safe cwm kernel from the kernel repository in the sticky for this phone
2. Download cm9 6 and gapps
3. Follow cm9 6 download instructions
4. Let it boot
5. Use mobile Odin if you have it (highly recommend as it makes flashing so easy) and flash the el26 kernel that you downloaded in the kernel section from external sd...always check md5 sum first!
6. Once u see the blue light on ur phone in the LED, hold power+volume up to boot into recovery, once the sgs2 logo shows you can lay off the buttons
7. If you didn't do it in time or held too long, just pull the battery and go to recovery via power+volume up
8. You should be in cwm, flash the nightly of cm9, clear dalvik and cache, then flash the chris 41g b3 kernel and reboot
9. Enjoy
10. From this point forward you have a bomb rom and working recovery that will allow backup/nand/flashing safely.

anyway i tried to flash el26 and it stalled at the splash screen, so i opened up recovery and wiped cache and dalvik, then installed the chris41g kernel. and no dice. aaaanyway. whats the benefit to the other kernels versus what i get with cm9? and is there a solution to my problem?

at this point i want a debloated stable rom. im back to a rooted stock rom with el29.
i just dont want to brick my phone, i have insurance and can take it in to swap it out. its just a waste of time if i can avoid it.
any other suggestions?

Start with thread #1 on the attached link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625535
To Install
Boot to recovery
Make an NAND Backup
Wipe the phone (with the Format All X2 script)
Flash Part 1
Boot the phone
Go to the updater (Under put things back to stock) and install Part 2 (Two part install is to finish theming Talk)
Reboot and Enjoy
When I did this I went to CWM to flash this through odin. Rom works very smooth. There is a ton of information in the thread but that should get you started.
SO YOU WANT TO INSTALL CYANOGENMOD?
SO! You might be new to Motorola, or Android, or Maybe even smartphones in general! I put together this Guide/Thread to help anyone new to the RAZR M with the installation and usage of Cyanogenmod on this phone!
First of all, i just want to say thanks to Hashcode, dhacker29, and any others who helped make this a reality on the Droid Razr M
NO ONE, OTHER THEN YOU, ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING YOUR PHONE INTO A PAPER-WEIGHT!! YOU ARE TO BLAME!
Before we flash, we must understand, there WILL be bugs at the beginning. most notably, Camera, WiFi and calls are a bit wonky so make sure this will work for you!
Requirements:
A rooted Droid RAZR M (either jellybean or ice cream sandwich, preferably jb ota)
The newest Safestrap.apk link (3.05.20 at the moment)
Rom of choice.
Now we have
CM10
CM10.1 Preview
AOKP alpha
The latest gapps for Jellybean Gapps
Steps for Installation:
0) Make sure you're rooted!!! This WILL NOT WORK UNLESS YOU'RE ROOTED!!!
1) Download ALL of the files above and put them in a place where you will remember, for me, i put them on the root of my SD Card.
2) Locate the Safestrap APK on the sd card using a file manager and install it.
3) Open the Safestrap application. You should get a popup from Superuser asking for permission. Allow it.
4) Next, hit the "Install Recovery" option and wait. This should only take a couple of seconds.
5) After safestrap is installed, power off the device. Once its off, power it back on. After the Motorola Splash screen, there should be a new, Safestrap screen. we're getting there!
6) On this safestrap screen, it should say "Safestrap Disabled" in red letters with the words "recovery" in the bottom left and "Continue" in the bottom right. Hit "Recovery"
7) Safestrap should boot up now. The screen will look like TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) to those that are familiar with twrp.
7.5) (OPTIONAL) Make a backup of your stock rom by pressing backup and sliding to backup.
8) Now, we must set up a Rom Slot. In the Safestrap menu, press "Boot Options" in the top left, which will have a blue outline.
9) Next, press ROM-Slot-1. System Partition and Cache Partition cannot be changed but the Data partition can. I recommend using 1 gb, unless you plan on installing a lot of apps.
10) This should take a while. After it is complete, the new Rom Slot is activated, meaning it will boot from that new slot from now on.
11) Press the home button to return back to the main screen. Now that we have a rom slot, we can install Cyanogenmod! From the main screen press "Install". It should launch and File Explorer-like UI with your SD Card already loaded. If it is on your SD Card, just scroll down until you see the rom and press it. Then slide to unlock.
12) After the rom installation is complete, we must install the Google apps (Gapps for short). When the installation is complete, hit the back button and find your Gapps package. install it like we installed Cyanogenmod. After the install, hit reboot system.
13) We are done! When you reboot, you should see the Motorola splash screen and then the safestrap screen, BUT, it will say "Safestrap Enabled" now and the picture will look different. Either wait the 10secs or press the "Continue" button on the bottom left. You should boot into Cyanogenmod
FAQ:
Q) Would you recommend installing the Cyanogenmod 10 Alpha?
A) Absolutely! Although it may not be a daily driver, its a good taste of what to come and VERY stable for a first release.
Q) Is it reversible?
A) Yes! 110%! If you want to go back to stock, but keep the CM10 on the rom slot, just go back into boot options, press the "Stock" option and hit activate. It should boot stock motorola android
Q) This is great! Who should I throw my money at?
A) Hashcode and dhacker29. They are awesome and TOTALLY deserve donations.
Q) This sucks! It made my phone come to live and eat my dog! Who do i blame?
A) Yourself. You take the responsibility for what you do to your phone. Not hashcode, dhacker or me.
If you run into errors, have questions, or any suggestions, don't be shy to post in here
Mods, I was unsure wether to post in General or Development, so if this is considered development, you can move it
Awesome guide. I have been playing with CM all day after it was released last night and loving it. However, I had trouble mounting my sdcard while attempting to install. I ended up using adb to push the zip to the new rom while in recovery and it worked like a charm. I am assuming that this might work for people without an sdcard at all. Perhaps this is worth noting? I am not quite sure, this is my first smartphone

Alright. This is definitely a good guide though! Keep up the good work.
The SD card is located as /external_SD/ in recovery, you can choose internal or external bubble but either way keep going up directories, until you get to the root, then locate the /external_SD folder
Also I suggest putting this link in op

So people can have the proper tools with which too root with or else safe strap and cm are pointless
And I have a thread in dev section with extra stuff and tips for making cm10 faster check it out maybe merge some of the links or info here?

if you really want to flash something, try making a backup, setting up a rom slot, and restoring to the rom slot. that'll allow flashing, idk if itll work though.

Ah yea I'm on stock. If I was to set up a rom slot and restore to it it would just be identical to what I'm currently running correct? And by restoring to a rom slot my current slot wouldn't be harmed or modified correct?

it will be identical, if it works. your stock slot is impossible to modify.

Hi there!
I have had an s3 for a few days now and love it!.
Any TW rom and my camera works just fantastic.
Any cm10/aokp/miui/etc rom and I just cant use the camera no matter what app I use to try it, whether it be the built in app or camera360/etc.
Driving me nuts and would love someone to help me. Anyway research I have done hasnt told me what I'm doing wrong.
I wipe cache/dalvik/factory reset/system before each rom. I have tried different kernels but nothing has helped.
Any gurus out there have any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
Your install process would be and please link the files you are flashing... I'll try and help you. I've seen a few people mention this the past couple days.
The most recent I tried to flash was Illusion v1.1.18 - (d2tmo, d2att & d2vzw) - 1|18|13 from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2037028
I downloaded Illusion-v1.1.18-d2tmo.zip and gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip.
I went into recovery which is twrp and the most recent version. I installed it with the goo.im app.
When in recovery I did:
1) Factory Wipe
2) Wipe Cache
3) Wipe Dalvik
4) Wipe System
I would then click Install and select the rom file, and after it succesfully flashed I would then flash the gapps file. All were successful.
I would then reboot and the rom would boot up fine. I setup my google account and all that then for the heck of it I would reboot.
I then would try the camera app and it would complain that it couldnt connect to the camera basically. I went into the play store and tried a free version of camera 360, puddle camera, etc and all would not work.
I went back into recovery, wiped cache and dalvik again, hopped on one foot, faced east, and clicked my heels together. Upon reboot the camera does not work.
I have wiped all that and tried to install [Kernel][JB] Leankernel: Minimalistic Kernel for D2TMO/D2ATT (AOSP) v2.3 [1/17/13] which flashed fine. Upon reboot I could change voltages to undervolt, mess with governors but cameras still do not work.
I have a backup of two TW roms (one stock) and both of the those roms work beautifully with whatever camera I try, including the built in/stock camera.
I hoped I didn't leave out something. If there is something I missed than I'm an idiot because it seems like I am really missing something.
Thanks for your help.
I don't see any reason your steps lead to that, the exact steps I take every time to flash. I'm researching but in the mean time, go to app manager and wipe cache and data from gallery... Are you using the same Gapps over and over on each try? Might wanna try a different set.

I did that earlier with no luck.
I just force stopped on gallery, wiped cache/data, rebooted, and I tried the camera only to get the same message.
Thank you for that tip but I will continue my research also.
Just because I looked at about phone.
Model of phone is SGH-T999 (just in case someone thinks I'm in the wrong forum"
Baseband version is T999UVDLJA
Kernel is of course 3.0.59-leanKernel
AOKP Version is Illusion v1.1.18 d2tmo
Build number is aokp-d2tmo-userdebug 4.2.1 (I truncated the rest)

I have downloaded this gapps twice for the last rom http://goo.im/devs/itsmikeramsay/gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip.
For the miui rom there was a gapps that was specific to miui and had miui in the name. The miui rom's camera didnt work.
I'll look for a different gapps if that might be the problem but since I have tried a couple roms and a few different gapps I feel that might not be the issue.
I still will give it another try though. Just have to find another gapps to try.
try these just in case they're corrupted. http://d-h.st/dtk these are the ones I use

I redid the entire install process from scratch using that gapps and the camera is still not working.
Ugh. Thanks for the link.
WIll keep trying :/
run a log cat and post it. Other then that maybe bad firmware...
did you update your phone to stock JellyBean via Over the Air or Odin? it updates the partitions which could be the issue, mmayyybbeee???!?!? Shots in the dark right now, just trying to help as I've never seen this issue before solved.

It had JB on it when I got it almost 2 days ago. I tried to do an OTA when I got it but it said I was up to date.
Let me do a restore to stock and see what version it is.
Edit: Restored stock. Says android version 4.1.1, Kernel 3.0.31-370274se.infra, Build number JR003L.T999UVDLJA
Was it already rooted?

It was new, out of the box. I watched the guy unrap it. It is one of the newer grey metal color looking ones. It was not rooted. I did that. Should I do an Odin to bring the device back to complete stock and start from scratch?
Will take a while since I have no idea where to start with all that
Thats the best suggestion I have. Maybe someone else will step in with an idea.

Hey thanks again for your help. I ended up falling asleep but installed Wicked V6 (tw based rom) and liking it enough that I will wait on a aokp/cm10.x rom until I get up the motivation to try again.
I'm sure I'll get an itch for a different rom in about a week though

I backed up Wicked and loaded up my original rom that I wanted to try.
The fix in the said thread fixed me right up, camera works fine.
All this trouble because of one 350ish kb file
Thanks for checking on my issue.
