hey qbking, are you saying that you cant go to settings -> applications and clear defaults for twlauncher to get stock Google launcher like we were able to do with every other Samsung phone? I'd like to know if that function is still available before I install it... I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere if it was even tried. Thanks.

You can always try pulling the modem.bin out of the tar and put that in the phone slot if you're having issues.
um question?
face unlock is slow though is there a way to tweak ???
Im just running stock rooted tw. I just got the ics update pushed to my phone and I want to update. I know it won't fly because of cwm recovery. What's the best way to upgrade to ics from here?
I one of these days when ive got time I will be loading a custom rom. I dabbled with cm9 a bit, but what I need is a stable rom that has a good strong radio and GPS. So that's why I'm hanging with stock for now.

Why not just use SFHubs FF18 One Click, no data then run this to disable the OTA msg if you continue to get that?
To get your CWM Recovery back, just use the Autoroot to install CWM for FF18..

All I have is root for EL29 on my phone. Do you think it's safe to accept the OTA?

Why would you be in the wrong section?
And according to sfhub, and others, having root alone should not prevent the update. Though some have said it's failed.
The latest OTA is said to fix swype, and that's it.. But that's just a matter of clearing swype cache.
Why not try the update? Everyone is having their own experiences, bad / good battery life, phantom reboots, lockups, great reception.. etc..
Why not try it out? You can always change it..

I ultimately tried it, but I'm screwed. I edited my Droidsansfallback.ttf to get soft emojis for my phone. During the update it stopped and said something about the file. I think it meant it was unverified. It also had a string of letters and numbers after it (DroidSansFallback.ttf, be7fksdsk1333, 340dj3045, etc). I'm re-downloading the stock rom in hopes that it will fix everything, but I chose no data wipe so I don't know.

Give an update after if you don't mind.
Are you going back stock el29 for the OTA or just using the ff18?
Did you make a backup of droidsansfallback prior to editing?
:edit: I'm wondering if you had the update still in cache and went with a stock ttf and tried replying the update. I don't know if a fail clears it out of cache though..

It's going to take an extremely long time [or a place with better reception] to download this. If someone could just send me the ttf it would be awesome.
I'm going back to stock rooted EL29. If I get another issue, I'll enable temp root. I did not make a backup of DSFB, unfortunately.

Personally? I would root and use a custom recovery to flash a nicely built rom. But that's what I would do.
I can either get you the update zip, and some links are still active to the latest OTA, or you can go custom.

There are plenty of custom ics roms in the Dev section. And el29 is 2.3.6 btw depends on what you want, aosp(cm9, aokp) or tw(blu kuban, goodness, venum ice, etc) lots of choices, I personally only use aosp roms and exclusively aokp out of the choices. I'm not a fan of tw the UI looks like something my 5yo made with his crayons

Crawrj still has his link active. Very recent update and you can use the stock recovery to use as the update. Just say the word of you don't know how to boot into recovery and apply. No need to rename but you can of you like, just name it update.zip and place into your sdcard.

I have been on ICS since the update and although i like the interface i have been having nothing but problems. i ended up backing up with titanium and doing a reset of the phone, still having issues although not as much with the wifi.
phone freezes at time, wifi needs to be refreshed at times, phone runs slow and somewhat choppy (removed live wallpaper to help relieve.), when i click on apps there is like a fading delay transition into the app. Oh and battery will not last more thank 5 and a half hours... and that is with light to no use.
I am no thinking of going with a custom rom ( i am rooted with oden). what rom should i go with that will give a similair look to ics but without all the problems.
thanks

Is that 5 1/2 hours on screen time or total battery life?
And there are several Stock "look and feels" in the Dev section. As with any Rom, YMMV. It's just a matter of taste and all anyone can really suggest is reading through the threads and seeing what appeals to you. Read through in it's entirety to get known issues, compliments, fixes, adjustments, etc..
Got my JB update today, I was rooted stock before, and the install went fine without any problems.
After the update, my Quadrant score went down dramatically, from 4500 (stock rooted ICS) to 3700 JB.
So I did a factory reset and all hell breaks loose. I dont seem to have 4G anymore, although the 4G signs is showing on the top. Play store, Maps, Navigations, etc wont load (maybe since I dont internet it wont load?). After noticing all these problems, I did another factory reset.
And now I cant even sign in to Google.
Seriously, I never thought an OTA upgrade would mess up my phone.
Can anyone shine a light my way?
Thanks.
I had a similar problem with the OTA LH2 on a rooted stock ICS , I couldn't connect WIFI, a lot of apps weren't working properly. After 4-5 factory resets, still no go. My only option was to use ODIN and reinstall the complete firmware that way, and all was back to normal. Im pretty sure this happened because of OTA over a rooted device. Worth a try I think.. Good luck.
Odin the update like above then enter recovery and wipe again, sucks you got a messed up download.

Unzip the odin file, turn the device off, holding volume down, home button and then the power button, the phone should go into download mode, start odin up, connect the phone via usb, hit the pda option, then browse to the file you downloaded and unzipped, the md5 file should be the only file showing up, select it and hit start.
Phone will auto restart upon completion.

Ok, I downloaded the *.7z file, extracted, flash it through ODIN and get my wifi to work, and my 4g to work for a brief moment.
Then my 4g stopped working again, and i notice that when i go to Status option in the setting, my device is listed as Modified, whereas for a few minutes after i flashed, it was listed as Normal.
When my device was listed as Normal, my 4g would work, then it switched itself to Modified and it seems that Samsung or Tmo locked my device.
Ugh, I am so bummed!
Modified ststus is jusy becsuse your rooted. It goes away if you revert.

My baseband version is T999UVLEM
I rooted my phone when I got it at launch, and then put off all the incremental updates until official JB was released for Tmobile. Now that it's released, I'd like to update to. What is the proper way for me to do this? Flash through odin I assume? Will I still be able to keep my root or root the device after JB is installed?
Thanks in advance, I just don't want a nightmare situation like the OP if I flash incorrectly

One that I'm still wondering about though, is can I go straight from rooted UVALEM to the latest JB firmware? Or do I flash back to stock UVALEM and THEN flash JB? Or do I need to flash each incremental update before finally finishing off with JB?

Or they can use the regular firmware file, flash it via mobile odin which roots it for ya, without the hassle and is much faster, I used it so I can say clearly it did an excellent job.
Note: if hotfile is too slow and there are no alternatives, I can upload the full firmware odin file to dev-host for everyone.

I always use mobile odin pro. My favorite app! But not everyone wants to pay for it and the free version doesnt have EverRoot.
I usually recommend it, but too many people were updating today so I wanted to stick with what everyone should be willing to do!
Ive already got the stock fw hosted from my account if that helps.
Was one of the first things I did after release. Check the firmware thread in my sig for that Plus more!

Same, mine is a stock root. I followed the instructions from the website below.

any help would be great

Download root66_ATT_I747UCDLK3.7z install it from Odin. You get new Jelly Bean update and it will stay rooted. I just did it and it worked. You will not lose any data either, but make a back up either way. You will loose CWM but you can just simply reinstall it from Rom Manager

I don't know about other's experiences, but my phone seems to be much more responsive in general after the update. Apps load and quit quicker, launcher is faster and smoother, and battery life is still about the same (very good for me at about 10% every 3hrs). I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Other than two weird resets in the first hour after updating, I have had no problems since and everything (wifi, LTE, GPS, etc) is working fine. The best thing for me is that K9 mail is so much faster and responsive with my 7 imap accounts.
PS - I was really hoping for the 3D panorama camera in this update, but alas no such luck.
Nvrmind. Not important

I have the Bell S3 (stock, rooted).
The OTA update Failed.
How can I get the Stock JellyBean rom to update?
(Preferably with root)

Try these images.
Just downloaded the rooted Bell 4.1.1 rom and attempted to flash with mobile ODIN.
But this resulted in boot loop.
Could the stock recovery have be preventing this from working?
Should I flash CWM now?
The recovery you're using shouldn't matter, particularly.
I'm not really familiar with the way Mobile Odin does things; I would have used regular desktop Odin to do things.
Generally, you see a boot loop with stock images if you're going back and forth between stock and non-stock and you did not wipe cache/data during the process. You can carry out said wipes with the stock recovery.
Good, just did it on good ol' regular odin and it worked.
No idea what caused the loop with Mobile Odin, I was going from stock 4.0.4 (w/ root) to stock 4.1.1 (w/root).
Guys i just checked my phone and thank you t-mobile for the update. Downloading it now.

anyone else receive the update on their t999l?
How do i install this update? I have TWRP recovery and if i try and flash it in there it says failed. It fails trying to update the partition.
If there is any modification to the device, the OTA will fail. CWM used to be able to get around this when the recovery and root were the only changes, but I don't know if this is still the case. If you are running a rom, or have made any changes to /system, it will fail.
Im looking for the firmware, but its not posted yet. Hotfile is gone and the new file hosts that samsung-updates and sammobile are using are some of the worst I've encountered! Pretty sad when they make you miss Hotfile!
Once its released though, I will host it from my AFH account if anyone wants a faster download.
Does this have multiwindow?

Full firmware is now available. I am downloading now, but it will take nearly 5 hours to complete. Once done I will upload it to my AFH account so you guys dont have to suffer such long download times! I will also post the flashable MK4 modem. This should be compatible for both the T999L and T999N, but dont be surprised if this has changed!
T999V firmware will be posted in a bit as well.
anyone needing the ota here is the file.

You ROCK Doc!
:silly:
On a more serious note, does this update do that weird mnt/0 thing or any of the emulated SD card crap that other ROM's do? Getting things straightened out after using those ROM's was nuts.

Yes, thankfully it does! We should of BEEN had multi-window on 4.1.2....I don't know why Samsung skipped out on the T999L with some of those little things. We got a 2 week delay from the suppose "screen shot date" so this better run good.

Uhhhhhh hehe
Check the sd card area in root browser or something?
Apps2sd doesn't mean much to me, I never have games or massive apps on my phone. I like keeping things pretty clean
