Hello. I bought a Samsung Galaxy s 4g sprint from someone. It turns on and goes straight into recovery mode, but it recovery mode you cant move any of the options.. it just stays there... is there any way to make it work? Please Help!
See if you can get into download mode. (Three finger boot) If you can, then you can use Odin to reflash recovery and flash a ROM. Since you are having issues, it wouldn't hurt to just Odin stock FC09 and you know you're starting fresh. (Check repartition)
If you decide to Odin FC09, you will then have to Odin CWM or TWRP with reboot unchecked, pull the battery and boot into recovery. Once in recovery again you can flash any Epic 4G ROM that is compatible with the Epic modem. You have to go through those steps because the stock kernel will reinstall the stock recovery upon the reboot.

Also, if you want a video tutorial on the whole process, then search for Qbking77's channel on YouTube. There you will find the FC09 root video for our device.

Yep Roms go on sdcard. It sounds like you have a bad flash of something. So you can try the recovery flash in Odin and see if that helps. The better solution, albeit with more steps involved to get back on custom, would be to use Odin and flash stock FC09 with repartition check just in case.

Okay so i download a rom on my sd card... then try to see if the rom pops up on the recovery mode and see if i can use the volume keys to move it to the rom i downloaded.. and when you say the better solution albiet.. what is that? and what do u mean to go back on custom with repartition? i want to be careful when i am doing this and idk what your talkin about... i apoligize but i am very new to this kind of stuff.... can u please explain what to do? thank you so much!

He means to follow the steps in this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
That will get you back to 100% stock just like new out of the box. Then if you want to root you can follow this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006687
That will get you rooted and have the opportunity to flash whatever rom you want that is for the Epic 4G with slider.
Also be sure you have a GOOD cable not the charging cable that came with the phone. Most people have good luck with BlackBerry cables.
alright ill try doing what it says in the first link because i just want to make the phone work... do u think the first link will work if my phone just turns on and goes straight to recovery mode? im asking because idk whats wrong with it/ what the problem is.... after i get it to stock mode then i will flash and root it... thanks alot

Yea the first link will work if your phone just turns on and goes straight to recovery mode because you will be going into to download mode by holding 1 on the keyboard and the power button until you see a yellow android guy pop up that's pushing something. Recovery mode and download mode are different.
Yea, sorry I didn't provide links. I was on my N7 when replying. Like I suggested eariler, check out the video tutorials on using odin to get to stock and rooting our phone. vwags already provide the link for both Odin and FC09 tar.
The problem i am having is that when i connect the usb in w/o battery is that it shows the charging logo and then 5 secs later it just turns off? any suggestions? thank you very much

Have the battery in the phone when you connect the usb to your pc.
alright i will try this, but even when i try charging it with the battery in .. it just shows a charging symbol (for like 1 sec) and goes straight to recovery mode... when at recovery mode it just shows options and then it says to move volume rocker and press okay on options... the thing is that when i move the volume rocker the options stays the same... this also happens when i use the usb w/o battery... i will try with battery but i doubt anything will change... also i dont have a sd card in it when i do all of this ... if that even matters... thanks alot for the replies

Ok.
1. Turn off device.
2. Leave battery in.
3. Press and hold the #1 key and then Power button until you get into download mode. (Android w/ shovel inside yellow triangle.)
4. Start Odin on your PC.
5. Connect phone to computer via micro USB cable. You will see in Odin, a yellow box with "COM" and some #. That means your phone is recognized. If not, you need to reinstall drivers.
6. Place FC09 tar file in the PDA slot.
7. Check repartition & auto reboot.
8. Click start.
9. Process takes about 2-6mins. The first boot takes about 5mins.
10. Profit, b/c you're on 100% stock like out the box.
From there, I'd suggest updating your profile and PRL in settings > about phone. Then you can follow the video on rooting & flashing.

I should have asked this in my first reply.
Since we're still at the "get into download mode phase"... I need to make sure that you are on the SPH-D700 Epic 4G, and not the SPH-D710 Epic 4G Touch. The Touch doesn't have the physical slider keyboard.
Moneystack23 - What happens when you have the battery in and press and hold the number 1 on the top left of the keyboard and then at the same time press and hold the power button for atleast 5 seconds?
Edit: I'm asking because I think your pressing and holding vol down, camera and power button which is not how you get into download mode on the samsung Epic 4g.

OK I was trying to flash an unlocked kernal via ODIN last night, something went wrong and now phone is stuck on the phone--!--computer screen. I cannot get past this screen. vol+home+power doesn't do anything but loop to the same screen.
It shows ODIN MODE in red at the top of the screen, but ODIn won't recognize the phone, nor will Kies (not running at the same time). Computer makes USB connected/disconnected sound when I plug and unplug the phone.
I have tried One-Click Unbrick, did not recognize that phone was connected.

there''s currently nothing to flash this phone
it came out only 2 days ago
DEV are still working on finding root
so, the best suggestion is to take it back to the store and get it exchanged
or wait a few more days/weeks until a flashable release becomes available to fix the mistake
I know, I was hasty and now this. Even when there something available to flash, the device isn't being recognized by ODIN. Any troubleshooting help for this?
When I managed to get my Vibrant into that mode I could pull the battery, hold volume up, put the battery in, press and release power (still holding volume up) and it'd kick back into download mode everytime. Once in download mode I could plug the USB in and a running ODIN would see it pop up. If ODIN wasn't running and USB was already plugged in things wouldn't work right.
I haven't tried ODIN on the GS2 yet (I'll wait for a root ). I did find the vibrant nearly impossible to brick though... trust me I unexpectedly tried quite hard.
You might need the newest ODIN for GS2 support, and possibly newer drivers.

I'm a bit new to this, but a custom ROM shouldn't affect your recovery mode. Are you sure you are using the correct buttons and methods to boot recovery?
Might want to make a new thread instead of necroing something from when the phone was 2 days old.

You should try to uninstall then reinstall driver, and try another usb port. In my experience, Odin seems to be picky, it only recognizes your phone if you plug it in the usb port that you used in the first time.

Recovery is accessed by holding both vol + and - while starting the phone. Hold them both while pressing the power button, then release the power button when it vibrates, keep holding the vol buttons till you see the recovery screen.

I have a galaxy s 2 tmobile version rooted and running beastmod 5.0
So I'm having a problem. I flashed the ics roms to my t989. I was running bm 5 before. I called the #2632* thingy to just get edge instead of 4g because it was killing my battery. I decided to go back to bm 5 cuz the ics ports based on the att leak were horrible. Usually on bm 5 I have GSM only selected for the network but it hasn't been able to connect. The only way I can connect is by using wcdma/gsm auto mode to connect to T-Mobile then I can select GSM only to just use GSM. If I restart with GSM only again it wont find signal unless wcdma/GSM is seleceted then I switch to GSM only. Idk what to do anymore GSM only used to work before I flashed ics and this is pissing me off help me anyone please! Its greatly appreciated.
Did you flash a gingerbread radio before going back to bm?
I did I found the t989 radio on xda I flashed it and it didn't work its the same problem.

Ok, you are going to need the drivers for your phone. http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
You need odin as well, download it. http://www.mediafire.com/?u868rqz4qn0ta34
If you already have drivers and odin move on to below
Go here http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ and make an account. I use sammobile because it contains everything in one shot. No need to get radio and crap from other places. After you make an account go to firmware section and type t989 in the search box. download the t989uvkid or Kl1 ASSUMING YOU HAVE AMERICAN T989
After you have completed the download you are going to need to unzip it with 7zip to extract the tar.
Plug the USB cable into your computer, without plugging it into your phone.
Hold VOL UP + VOL DOWN while plugging in the USB cable to your phone. Stop holding buttons when the ''Warning'' appears.
Press Volume UP and open ODIN (Run as Admin on Vista and 7, just to be safe)
Click PDA and locate the MD5 file you extracted earlier.
WAIT FOR ODIN TO RECOGNIZE YOUR PHONE. THE COM PORT WILL TURN YELLOW AND HAVE A NUMBER
MAKE SURE NOTHING BUT AUTO REBOOT IS CHECKED!!!!!!!
Press 'Start' and be patient. It will take a few minutes because it is a large file.
phone will reboot automatically.
thank so much for the instructions however
this llink doesnt work for the DRIVERS doesnt work
and i had the superwipe already and thanks lol silly me.
If you go to Samsung website and download Kies, the drivers will automatically update.

Just 5 minutes of reading and looking for and answer and you wouldn't have to make this thread -_-
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SGH-I747&pcode=ATT#firmware
Any of those firmwares will work on a i747
If you have a i747M or you're not ATT look here and select your correct phone information in the drop down boxes:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/
These will restore you to factory, you will still have to root.
I still cant get my phone to work.
I have done this many times and the galaxy s3 logo comes up and then nothing..
I wasnt rooting my phone i was charging it last night.... the phone got hot so i unplugged. I tried to turn it on in the morning and it wouldnt turn on. i know how to put my phone in recovery mode, ive done it before but it wont. it will go into download mode but thats.about. it. I know i dont know much about phones but i know how to put it in recovery mode to clear the cache and that isnt working.... any thoughts?

Does the phone actually connect to your pc? I assume you have the proper drivers installed? Open odin while in download mode and see if it detects the phone. Sounds as if the phone's bootloader is screwed. If its detected you should be able to fix without much trouble. Sometimes you have to flash the original stock rom as the newer ones sometime have trouble for whatever reason. Version 4.0.4 i believe.

I dont have odin on this computer, when i plug it in it isnt recognized, i assumed that was because it wasnt technically powered on. I guess i'll take it to someone tomorrow to have it looked at.... im so out of my element here... thanks.

If you can get the phone into download mode , it should auto install your drivers and make it recognizable by Odin.

I would like to apologize in advance if I posted in the wrong category (I think it's the right category). As the title says I have done a mega wipe with my Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-I747) and completely removed the OS along with the System Recovery and everything. It is basically just the phone and nothing inside. When I plug it in the computer, my windows OS makes a sound signaling it detected a device but then nothing happens. I do see a red light turning on my Galaxy S3, I think it says it's charging. Tried accessing the recovery mode, but no luck.... So my question is...is there any way to reflash an OS? Thank you so much XDA!!
If you can get to download mode, you can use Odin to flash a rom. Why would you wipe the recovery partition?
You need some JTAG action.

Hi My friend this is happened for me b4 and this what I did
1- take your battery out for about 5 Minutes.
2- Download Odin and The firmware orginal no rooting no custom recovery ** I started with ICS from Samsung-update.com***
3- Start Odin Don't add firmware yet.
4- Put your phone in Download mode by holding Volum down+ home+power and when the screen come push volum up to go to download mode.
5- Now connect your phone to PC and Odin will see your phone on which com.
6- Now add the Firmware by clicking on PDA when it say ready just click start on odin.
7- You are back on orginal Rom ( No root or Custom recovery) and you can go from there.
Good Luck
IF I Help Hit Thank Botton

JTAG repair is done to your phone by an expert with special equipment. You would need to bring your phone to them or ship it off to be fixed. Google '(your city) Jtag repair' . No boot but still having a sound from connecting to PC is a good sign that your bootloader is corrupted.
If the computer makes as noise when you plug it in, try for download mode... Even If the screen of the phone doesn't turn on try to connect and use Odin, sometimes Odin will pick it up...

Don't be afraid to be the bringer of bad news here. Here's what I did: I wanted to clear some space and start from scratch on my S3 (d2usc), so I wiped and used odin to go back to the stock 4.1 firmware. I updated OTA to 4.3 then I flashed CWM touch. From recovery I flashed SuperSU and the most recent CM11 nightly along with gapps. It was running perfect at this point. I made a backup and that's when I decided I was pro enough to flash a custom kernel in recovery. Specifically this one. Which I'm sure is a nice kernel, if only it was made for my device *facepalm* So now it won't turn on and I can't get into download mode or recovery. When I plug in to my PC Windows doesn't recognize it. I can hear the "plugged in" sound, but it sounds sort of laggy. When I unplug it I get the normal "unplugged" sound, but the screen stays black no matter what. I also get a red LED when plugged in without a battery. I'm thinking my only option might be a USB jig, but I really have no idea if that will work in this situation. So what do you guys think? Is it done for or salvageable?
Have you tried download mode? Volume up and power and home buttons at the same time. If you can get into download mode, your not bricked. Only option if download mode works, is to find a tar file, which flashes every partition of the phone. You must know how to use ODIN to flash a tar file though.
