Hi All,
If like me you are new to nfc, i have just purchased a few tags from amazon and they work fine with the htc,
very clever idea just swipe your phone over them and they do what you ask them to do.
I use nfc task launcher from the app store and these are the tags i use:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A78U0I2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use them for simple things like turn on bluetooth in car, turn on wifi and set ring volume when im home.
Good price. I ordered a pack of 10 black and 10 red Xperia tags in ebay but they're coming from HK so I might have to wait a few weeks. Apparently you can use the Sony smart app too, but I'll check out the app you mentioned when I get mine.
20 tags is probably too many so I might give some to friends and family. I'll probably only use about 3-5.

I figure I will use 4 tags regularly (home, work, car, night stand) and will want 2-3 others that won't get used often. The others would be for travel or specific recurring meetings that don't occur at normal business times. I have a keychain one that may be used for that (basically fast mute/vibrate/change google voice settings). I am sure I will need Tasker for what I want. I might have one setup to input the wifi name and password for guests too.

if you use the nfc task launcher it can also link things to tasker .
I.e. you go to set up a new nfc tag, then from list of options you can set up a nfc tag against one of your tasker tasks.
Is really handy if you have one set up or want something abit more complicated, just make sure you get a nfc tag with enough
memory on it!
Link the app for anyone interested.

I love these tags. Only If I could use them like a light switch to turn on all the lights in my house. That would be so cool.

I apologize for my ignorance but how exactly would I use those? For example, how would I use a specific tag to activate Bluetooth?

You use a program like NFC task launcher to program the tag. It reads the tag then performs the tasks.
That program can also be used to use BT as the trigger. I launch the Car app and mute notifications when it connects to my car BT. No NFC required

So basically, you use program, set up a tag to do whatever you want (i.e. turn on wifi turn brightness up and turn ring tone up)
then you just swipe your phone over it and thats it.
Easy.
Your phone does have to be unlocked to read it though.

Yeah, that's the issue I learned about NFC which killed the convenience for me. I understand the security concerns, but I just wish there were an option to read NFC on lock/sleep for low-security functions.
I know there was a mod for S3s that allowed you to read NFC tags while locked. Has anyone seen something similar released for the One?
Samsung tags work well. I
Have quite a few from my note 2 and they all work well.

The problem with NFC Task Launcher is that it programs the tag to do the task, instead of programming the app to recognise a tag and THEN perform the task. I have the Xperia tags and they are only 48 bytes for user data. One task written by NTL is over 70 bytes.

All the red tags will have the same "code" in them, so they will do the same thing..
-> UNLESS you reprogram them yourself...
Same goes for all the black tags from sony..
thanks for the info
How easy is it to program these tags? I would like them to turn my ringer off and toggle Wi-Fi from home and work.
I read the first few posts in the "tasker" thread and it seems super technical.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
super easy takes ten seconds. What are people doing with them?
For me:
1 in car holder to turn on bluetooth, start google maps
1 on key chain to silence everything
1 on car to turn bluetooth on/off

Tasker and NFC Tasker are 2 different programs. NFC Tasker is easier to setup than Tasker.

I searched the web and read the manual, but could not find an answer.
All I am looking for is the way to automatically switch ringtone to "vibrate only" when I am in the office, and back to my regular ringtone elsewhere, based either on GPS location data, or the tower I am connected to. Is there an app for that?
Thanks!
I believe "Tasker" in the Play Store I'd what you are looking for.

I will try Llama. Isn't there one of Samsung functions or apps for that?
Thanks Raven,
I also found Llama, will give it a try:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kebab.Llama&hl=en
I was under impression that Samsung provides this functionality built-in?

Let me know how tasker works on your device because it seems like a GREAT app but the reviews aren't too impressing.

Its a good app but its confusing to a lot of people so they leave bad reviews. The ui isnt as user friendly as the ios equivalent Activator
Which one do you guys prefer and why? I personally cannot find any use of google now while robin is very helpful in my opinion...

I suggest trying utter!
It is currently in beta but has a distinct advantage over other voice commands which is customizability and it can execute tasker tasks.

I have not tried Robin but will give it a try. I like Google Now. The widget occupy's a 4*4 space on my home screen and it keeps me up to date with the local weather, my next appointment/work schema, how much time it takes me get to work and to get home. Every now and the I will be reminded with a picture and name that a friend on Google+ is having a birthday.
Other cards turn up and when I open Google Search!
The only voice commands I use are simple ones such as currency checks or a quick math problem.
I like Google Now.

Utter uses whatever voice engine you choose. So the misunderstanding part is usually due to the person not saying the command correctly. It has to be exact.

I find that I use Google Now a lot. I rely pretty heavily on searching for locations on my desktop, then having an estimated time of arrival listed as a card on my phone that I can easily set as a navigation target. The ability to pull my calendar events and tell me when I need to leave due to traffic is also quite helpful.
Starting an app forum to see who would be interested in having their android phone save them time and power. I have two apps on the market that do just that. One cuts bluetooth on and off when disconnected from any device or a device you specify. The other will cut your wifi on when you get home and connect to your home wireless and talk to you and turn it off when you leave home and talk to you. Respond to this post and I will post the links to the apps on market. Developer name on play store is Devils Advocate

I'm using the avatar ROM and it has a weebo app that allows you to use it to do functions automatically based off your location. I've been trying to get it to put my WiFi on and off when I leave my house. Ive let it recognize my location numerous of times. I don't know if I have my settings right or what. Another thing I'm trying to do is create my own rules using this app as well. So anyone with some assistance would be appreciated, thanks.

If you're using that "weebo" app for that, I would highly recommend purchasing Tasker from the play store. Awesome app, frequent updates, and can be set up to do a huge range of things based on profiles and specific parameters, including what you're trying to do.

Basically, Weebo is similar to Tasker, but you can do a whole lot more with Tasker, and since it's been around for years now, there are a whole lot of tutorials on how to program automation in it. The auto-on or auto-off of wifi is one of the more basic things you can do with Tasker (and there are tons of tutorials on it).

Bought some NFC tags for my S3 and going to give one to a friend to use on his NFC.
I want to put something funny on it but can't come up with anything? It needs to work without requiring a special app, I thought about making it auto send a text but that's not possible, it just opens the message app with the text.
I tried opening a certain 'comedy' website featuring a song by the group "Dead or Alive", but sadly it's a flash site so that's out the picture.
Any other ideas of what I can do, or even similar websites that will work on android, or ones that play sound loudly or whatever. Shock factor would be good.

How about putting a strong NFC sender in his house so when he walks past it it opens a website, forexample: www.kittenwar.com Rick roll, trololol, a porn site ect. ect...
I know this is maybe not exactly whay u want and im unsure if its possible witg nfc tag but maybe (for the messaging trick) use nfc tage to open the text message app u want to send with the text predisplayed then.
adb start-server
adb connect localhost:5038
Input keyevent (key no. required)
E.g. key 7 is number 14
Just use key number for tab so it highlights the send.key and then input key code for enter key.
Let me know how this works out .
