Which kernel is the best for battery life - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

im currently running hyperdrive rs11
and jellybean 4.1.2

@hednik compiled this thread for the TW based ROMs: 4.1.X TW kernels
check it out and look them over for reviews and feedback

I used instigator x and faux when on it. Kernels really don't affect the battery as much as rogue wake locks and apps do.

battery life and such things.
THANKS BROS
AOKP and lean kernel. Fastest and best battery life.

AOKP and some kernel. I personally use Franco Kernel but look around and see what you like the most.
where can i find this rom? thanks for quick replies
Check the Dev section.
Goodluck!
Now with AOKP, use to be Slim. Both of them are great.
right now i think AOKP is the best. i used the official CM9 nightlies and there were pretty awesome, but still needs some features that i really need
Official CM9 Nightlies, Franco kernel.
Faster than the speed of light.

I'm using codename and just recently switched to francos 18.4 and now 18.6 kernel. I have zero complaints, the only thing I haven't gotten to work is Google plus hangout video chat but I haven't updated to the latest gapps yet. I bet I will try akop one day since it is so popular (maybe at milestone 4) but I have no reason to. Codename is killer smooth.

I was running ARHD but switched to the most recent CM9 nightly earlier this morning. CM9 is faaaaassst and so far no issues. Oh and I'm using the stock CM9 kernel.

When people say you have to try every from and find one for you, that's completely untrue for the galaxy nexus, once you try AOKP you won't change at least until MIUI is official for me

Definitely liking AOKP Milestone 3. Plenty stable for me, and adds some nice features not included with the stock ROM. Paired with GladOS 1.15 kernel. Butter smooth, ~3+ hours screen on time with the stock GSM battery.
apparently aokp is the boss rom
AOKP and lean kernel+ leantweaks

Why is everyone who uses AOKP suggests other kernel? Is the kernel that comes with AOKP not good enough?

I personally got best battery life and smoothness using lean kernel after testing every other kernel. Different results for different people I guess so you'll have to try kernels out yourself and see what you find best

I've just switched to the Glados Kernel found on RootzWiki with AOKP, and it's the best combination I've tried so far I think.

i747M - Best ROM and Kernel

Hey guys,
What is the best rom/kernel combo you have found? I am currently on slimbean with kT kernel. Looking for what has worked for others :good:
+1
I'm very interested to know myself. I just got the sgs3 coming from a galaxy nexus running aokp. I love the new touchwiz which is ,I find, leaps and bounds beyond the sgs2's version of touchwiz. I actually want to keep it. I want a rom that gives me more without taking anything away. What I mean is a juiced up touchwiz with more customization. No nova or apex. Lte, avcrp and nfc that actually work. landscape mode phablet mode etc. Every rom has one or the other not all.
at this point it really comes down to personal opinion. all roms are heavily supported and seem to be very stable. it depends on what your looking for.
slim is a great rom very smooth and light (only ~80mb in size!) but i've found that i get more random fc's on slimbean than i do on cm10/aokp. so im sticking with cm10 & kt747 kernel for now. i always check out new slimbean updates though, when it gets a little more stable ill probably stay there.
i haven't had much experience with leak based stock jb roms. when the official at&t jb update comes out ill probably stick with stock jb because i do enjoy touchwiz but right now it seems that aosp is better with stability and battery life.
one thing i am sure of is every rom i flash, i flash ktoonsez kt747 kernel. during heavy use i switch to from ondemand to ktoonservative governer and that will really save you battery life.
i think it does come down to personal preference, but what I'm using is the latest Cyanogenmod 10 nightly with Ktoonsez latest kernel (9/23) and it's underclocked and undervolted. Great performance and even better battery life.

Serenity is based on the note 2 software. Milestone is based on the tmobile s3 leak. I tried both and went back to an ics rom (ariel). It just seems more stable and has more of the features that i like.

I really like Serenity v1.1 located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869300.
There are a few bugs here and there, but nothing that would prevent daily use in my opinion. If you are after super stable then you should probably stick with a stock-based ROM of which there are plenty. If you want to try out JB then I'd give Serenity a shot.
I use kt747 with stock rogers rom, (4.1.1 JB). Aside from a couple of issues with charging for while powered off, everything is working well.
Jedi ROM 2.0.
I've had 0 issues with it, great battery life, buttery smooth (using Nova launcher) and everything works flawlessly.

AOSP vs. TW: Battery life

I installed CM10 as soon as I got my SGSIII out of its box. What are your experiences with battery life on AOSP ROMs versus stock TouchWiz-based ROMs?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
AOSP/CM10 will always have better battery life. Reason: less crap!!!
Unless you use a TW ROM that is very stripped down and modified.

AoCP best battery life I've ever had on a ROM. 29 hours 4 hours screen time.
Touch wiz frosty jellybean great battery life there also.
Aosp seems to be the better contender although it is very dependant on the ROM. More customizations generally = less battery your going to have.
AT&T SGS3 Marble White
ParanoidKangDroid 1.4
Ktoonsez 11/13 OC'ed & UV'ed
Medical Marijuana Supporter
I disagree back in the ICS days most stock roms had much better battery life than cm9. Not sure if the same applies with jellybean as it hasn't been fully released for our device yet. I think aosp ROMs have an edge because most are stable right now and stock jb ROMs are in the early stages of development.

Need Optional kernel for jelly bean rom build 14 by beanstown

My battery life is a bit choppy on this jb rom build 14 by beanstown.Does anyone have any good choices for compatible and optional kernels for this rom
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
It just depends. You're just going to have to try out different compatible ones and make that assessment yourself.
I use the same rombut using deviant dev's Xone kernel (the one which OC's only up to 1.6ghz. Ive been getting 20+hrs of batt life.

Everybody's favorite ROM/kernel combo?

Mine is the latest official AOKP nightly 5/6 with the 5/5 ktoonz kernel it works beautifully on my S3 no flickering, good battery life...
What's your favorite combo?

inb4 thread closed as it has been beaten like a dead horse
I'll get in before it's closed as well...
CSROM ThaBMB with the IX (InstagatorX) TW kernel.
For that matter, I've used the IX TW kernel with all TW based ROMs I've used.
PAC-5/4 with stock kernel. runs like a champ. great battery after 2-3 cycles
Stock cm10.1 is hard to beat.

Deviant Xone with bms, most recent of these. Haven't had any problems. Had a tough time deciding what to flash, but after reading through several threads, itsmikeramsay seems like the nicest and most responsive dev, with the most collegial thread.
