which one is better for battery saving?
tasker seem to have more option/variety but too many option/variety can be a problem sometimes. and there alot more you can do with tasker so that a bonus
juicedefender is mainly for battery saving but the options can get quite confusing.
any good tasker profile for battery saving? or what do you use your tasker for?
any good setup for juicedefender?

in all honesty, juice defender is not needed. tasker on the other hand i dont think you need to use for battery savings. if you're on a custom rom and you dont like the battery life, flash a new kernel. i did that and since then i've not used juice defender since its not needed and battery is great (leankernel 5.4 on liquidsmooth v2.2 4.2.2) :good:
JuiceDefender doesn't even work on the new JB builds. Even when it was working, it was mediocre on a good day.
Tasker, on the other hand, is an amazing application. But don't bother with trying to save battery with it, though.
I'm pretty sure die hard battery savers don't use "battery saving" apps. The only apps they'll really use are kernel and voltage controllers. Even then, there's a list of other factors that contribute to battery, from screen brightness, use, having dark themes, and other stuff. Additionally, being in an area with GOOD coverage will save you battery as well.
Things like juice defender as far as I'm concerned are pointless gimmicks, like virus scanners and such.
would underclocking or undervolting help? and how to go about it?
Don't bother with that either. If you are having battery problems get BetterBatteryStats from the party store.
Honestly if you want more battery the buy an extended battery or the same size battery with more capacity than the stock 2100 mAh

You cannot get more capacity out of the same size for it to be noticeable...The only time it would ever be 1% more is if the China after market batteries had thinner battery walls of which would be likely unsafe for that extra few mAh in capacity...so even China doesnt do it (they dont care about your capacity). OEM is the max capacity you can have for a stock size. JD does help if you configure it right using the advanced settings. Also, it only helps you when your phone is off.
Battery savers never worked for me. But there is one app called GREENIFY (it's a root app) which hibernates the apps that normally would run in the background and saves me TONS of battery power! Best battery saving app I've ever used. Well worth the investment!

I've tried all the hottest kernels and battery saving tricks and still average only 8hrs under real world use
Running Evo Deck 1.2.1, display at 12%, couple widgets, data off (using wifi at home) , sync off, and all of that. Underclocked, undervolted too.
Browsing, xda app, etc results in 20% battery usage per hour. Battery consumption is zero at idle, but drops like a rock if i use the phone at all.

Oh and I'm using a live wallpaper (pixel rain) I keep sync on, gmail hourly everything else daily, weather on the half hour, right now my phone is at 17 hours with 38 percent left.

Maybe my batteries are shot - their health shows "good " though. I have two OEM 1500 batteries that I swap, but I did buy an HTC 2150mAh, just waiting on my battery cover to arrive before I use it.

Battery calibration is very important, don't know how I lived without it
Setting the VM heap to 48 allows the dalvik garbage collector to run less, improving battery
Chainfire 3d helps with anything graphical, makes home using lwps smoother, games run better etc, also saves battery by making all animations, graphics processing more efficient
If you use apps2sd bumping the cache makes it faster, and more efficient saving battery
Also updating to the latest radios etc, and making sure your prls and profile is up to date is essential, many aosp users, formerly including my self forget about that stuff
I've spent a huge amount of time expirementing with different setups, I think I've found my phones sweet spot
I have loads of friends with rooted evos, mine has the best battery and is typically fastest (chainfire 3d) makes everything snappier
Maybe with all of this info you can test these apps / settings and find your phones sweet spot. Good luck man

I'll agree with Zac here,
evo 3d with CM7 nightly, SavagedZen 2.2.1 CFS. removed all the crap i dont use or think they suck the battery down. live wallpaper etc.
InteractiveX governor, 245-1113mhz
No setCPU.
no juice defender
no taskkiller.
no 4g - no gps - no wifi
blutooth ON
3g always ON.
battery calibrated is a must
display set to manual around 33% brightness. but i change it on the fly (swipe the notif bar).
Now the results are pretty interesting here:
With the stock battery and all the above; if the reception is good, i can go for 2 days with moderate usage. yes i know i night i sleep, so it idles nicely.
If the signal is not so good, it will destroy the battery, and can't really get anything more than 13hours.
My typical use:
unplug at 10am.
use the phone normally.
plug it back in at midnight that night, and i would have between 35% or up to 67% battery left in the phone, depending on the factors mentioned.
Which to me, going all day is all i wanted before i started tweaking. Mission accomplished.
The quality of the reception is a killer, i'll tell you.
I bought a 3500mah battery from the same company, and it is trash.
are there any extended batteries that fit in an otterbox commuter case?
I've been using CyanogenMOD 7 and love it (mostly). The one thing I don’t like about it is the short battery life. I'm kind of new to rooting phones so it took me a bit to get it rooted and get CM7 rolling. I was wondering if there are any mods out there like CM7 that have better battery life? Or if there's any thing I can add to CM7 to give it more batter life?
I've been using android since the first phone came out so I’m already knowledgeable in what to turn off to try and extend the battery life, but I have noticed a big decrees in batter since installing CM7.
Thanks for the help guys

your phone automatically underclocks your processor when it sleeps (for most CPU governors), you do not need to tell it to do so.
I'm not picking on you fyi, I'm just making sure we are giving people accurate information... there's only one thing worse than no information: incorrect/incomplete information.
op: which version of CM7 are you running? remember, the more minimal your setup (ie less homescreens, less widgets, manual syncing of gmail and whatever else, etc) the better your battery life will be. this is especially true of newer phones that are getting heftier cpu & gpus that, while intelligent with power consumption, are going to drain even larger capacity batteries relatively quick with moderate/heavy usage.
how long are we talking with battery life? how heavy a user are you? for reference, I get around 16 hours of battery life if I don't charge the phone at all from unplugging to battery dying with moderate to heavy usage (texting ~50 times a day, sometimes up to 100 emails depending on what's happening at work, couple hours of calls, couple hours of streaming music [pandora or audiogalaxy], couple of hours of games [peggle and plants v zombies mostly - both of which are resource hogs], etc).
I have just learned to get used to the fact that the phone is going to die if I use it a lot, so I've purchased three micro-usb cables and a car charger.. that way, unless I'm in an area where there is no charge-capable usb port nearby, I'm always able to get a little more juice if need be.

but i also mean setting the max sleep to 368mhz. by default its set at 800mhz. sometimes with apps running in the background, the processor may go to 800mhz without you knowing
check out 'powersave' and set your cpu max to 806mhz. should last you a nice long time like that. responsiveness suffers, of course.
'ondemand' and 806mhz is the best comprimise for me. still fine with HDvideo recording, streaming audio, Nav, etc
if you really want to make it last... clock down to 400mhz, turn off all the sync, set brightness and timeout to minimum, all the radios off (airplane mode), and the volume down, on vibrate.

But some govenors don't drop the sleep to the lowest profile. In fact almost all keep it above the lowest clock. Other kernels allow it and you can also use third party to set it lower. When the tweaKr script becomes universal it will be even better =)

It suffers in powersave because it stays at the lowest setting only. No reason to set to 806. Lol and that bottom comment is hella funny =), but if he does that his phone will just be...a waste of pocket space.
Your best bet is to do some research on kernels. If you are using cm7 to cm 7.0.3 id recommened pyros kernel. If you are on 7.1 or a nightly over 121 I believe id go with eugene's streamline5. Mugen 3600mah = better battery life...
Can you elaborate on what kind of battery life you are getting now? How many hours, and for what level of usage?
How long have you been on CM? It takes a couple charge cycles of the battery after flash any ROM, for the battery meter to be accurate. Clear battery stats (as mentioned) then charge to 100%, let drain to about 20%, repeat a couple times. Don't drain until the phone dies. Some people say to do this, and its not good advice. Over discharge of Li ion batteries can cause them to no longer take a charge. There are people on here, on the Vision and other phones, that let their battery drain to empty, then the phone would no longer boot, forcing them to replace the battery.

Android is good at managing background tasks etc. Don't use a task killer, it can prevent sleeping of the phone, and constantly kill things that need to be running... Android will start it up again, which is more costly than leaving it running.
Some of these apps can turn WiFi or data on and off according to a schedule, which can be useful, but I just leave mine on all the time. I find the screen to be the biggest drain by far.
My WiFi is at 4% and cell standby at 3%, screen is at 71%.
I'd not recommend. Just download betterbatterystats and keep an eye using that app to see if anything is keeping your phone awake. Remember these are powerhouse phones and not like ordinary dumb phones so expect battery life not to be great.
Simple measures such as keeping brightness low, turning off data when not needed, keeping sync to minimal and such will greater battery life but then things out of our control like poor signal will dampen the battery.

I've used JuiceDefender Ultimate on my XE and the app's stats suggested 2.0x power saving. I don't know quite how accurate that really is though. I've just installed it again on my One X.
In my experience, those apps just make your battery life worse. They run in the background, causing the processor to run faster, do more cycles which ultimately leads to using up more power. If you want to save your battery life, set your brightness to as bright as you need it to be, not more. Turn off WiFi and/or Data if you don't use it. Turn off GPS if you don't use it. Kill the apps in task switcher because they usually run in the background as well and eat up your battery life.
I was under the impression that you can leave GPS enabled in the settings, as it'll only be used when an app requests it?

Yeah that's true from my experiences. Minimal battery drain when turned on. I think it's to avoid unnecessary usage like weather apps updating every hour or so whilst making use of the GPS. But it shouldn't have such an impact on battery drain unless your using GPS for long periods such as navigation.

Hello.
I was wondering if my battery life is low or not, so I want to know what your battery life is guyz.
My battery would last like 12hs with wifi always on and facebook, some music here and then and youtube. is it a normal consumption ?
There are so many variables that come into play with battery life that is nearly impossible to quantify what sort of battery life someone should be getting. Screen on time, brightness settings, radios used, reception, usage patterns, apps running in the background....tons of things that will be different from person to person. Also, the actual battery itself comes into play with how well it can hold a charge.
As long as you are happy with your battery situation, all is well. If not, perhaps look into what is using your battery. Better Battery Stats can potentially help you narrow down where things on the software end are draining your battery.

That's about what I use to get.
I went out and bought a spare battery. I'm not a fan of extended batteries so I went with a standard battery for about $10.
I also flashed a new kernel that will help on the screen brightness and underclocking.
