I wonder is it possible to remove the screen indicator dot. This is the only thing I don't like about TW. Everything else is awesome. No, I do not want to use NOVA, Launcher pro, or any other launcher. I know that the EPIC 4G Touch, Calkulin, a recognize DEV, found a way to remove it. Not sure if is possible for our G-NOTE II.
Resolve: Here is the link, download the ns_no_pi_tw.zip and flash it.

Yup
You can, you have to decompile the apk and make some edits. There's some guides around here somewhere, the only thing is the files won't be exact matches so you'll have to do some searching in there to find the lines to edit. You can remove the dots, add landscape and change the grid sizes among other things like changing out the icons etc.

Apktool should work just fine. I haven't modified tw launcher in a long while but it's just like any other apk. If I'm not mistaken calkulin has an older guide buried in the et4g section that should give you a rough guide of which lines to search for to edit, just remember they won't be exactly where they are in his guide so it'll take a little hunting if you don't have a source editor with a search feature. I'm not sure if the windoze version of notepad++ has the search function since I work in Linux when I'm modding stuff. But I don't think there's really any major differences between the win/lin versions. I'm not really a dev just a hobbiest. I'm not one for titles, I just like to mod my phone to make it mine.

Check chef central in the main forum list here on XDA. There's also dsixda kitchen which has many useful tools, including the ability to convert nandroids into flashable rom zips. There's tommytomatoes android utility, another great tool with many features including an apktool and last but not least rujelus23's AIO for apk modding, found on his site which you can link too thru one of his many threads in the et4g section. A quick google search of any of the dev+tool names+xda should take you right to their respective threads as well as detailed instructions on how to setup and use each one. Then you can choose which suits your needs and setup best, or try them all. I actually use all 4 plus some xtras as each has it's strengths and weaknesses and it never hurts to have extra tools when you're working on a stubborn project.

Would it work to theme the actual cm9 rom to get things themed that themes can't get such as lock screen? That's the only thing I can think of right now but I'm sure there's more things. Would this work or does the theme replace any files that would change whatever was changed from the original rom?

Yes it will work just fine. As long as the theme apk doesnt interfere with what your themeing it will be just fine. I'll break down what the theme is..
Essentially it is a redirection. It has the drawable folders just like the ROM for whatever DPI, in the epic's case HDPI. How it works is a redirection XML will shoot the application to another XML which is written to specify what goes where. Such as the status_bar... you would place that image in the Drawable-HDPI and the XML for the SystemUI.apk would be written for that [email protected]/status_bar.png if you catch my drift.
Of course its a bit more complicated but that is the essential. just an FYI if you decide to ever make one.
Ya I get what you're saying. I have thought of making a cm7/9 theme but never had time. But I think I want to just add a little more to the theme that hasn't been done.

Ya I know that I meant that they're both used the same way, like the lock screen isn't themed from the theme itself. I know that I can't use them on both roms lol. I may have asked a dumb question earlier about contacts but I'm not that much of a noob to try cm9 themes on cm7 lol. And the contacts was just because I don't have experience with cm9 lol this is the first time I ever ever actually use it lol.

1st off I wanna say no disrespect to the devs...I appreciate all the hard work that goes into all the awesome roms...seems that with all the talk of jellybean and without an official ics release that THEMING has taking a back seat..although i am enjoying team rejects change of pace (annihilation is awesome!) And I love the look of miui but I can't get it to work good enough for me to use as my daily, with that being said I kinda long for the days of a DUSK theme or an all white with black letter theme like the GTX rom I had on my TP2 I think these would look sweet on my et4g...anyone willing to work on anything similar to these?

Not really any more than having Sense or something like that on your phone, its more of a kernel thing and we have some great evo specific kernel devs over here, you just have to find a pure AOSP rom without all the Sense, TouchWiz, Motoblur overlays, then just add your own Widgets icons launcher dialer keyboard font over that and create your personalized interface the way you want it....

was gonna post this elsewhere, but here's as good as a place as any i suppose. for those that want to mess around with theming here's a great place to start. it's a vrtheme template for our phone. It should work with most roms. here's a link with some quick info and the download link with our updated binary. all thanks to the villianrom team for a great template/idea
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/threads/about-villaintheme-system.4971/
http://www.mediafire.com/?ddi2vc7qeg2y44x
basically instead of having to decompile and recompile apk's and have a complete and working apk to flash, this only requires that you place the images, xml's etc in the correct folder structure. everything is in the vrtheme folder in the zip. so to theme a system app, say systemui, you would create a folder called SystemUI.apk in the correct folder structure, namely vrtheme/system/app/SystemUI.apk. then all you have to do is drag and drop the images you want swapped into the proper folder locations. I included an example folder structure for images in drawable-hdpi for systemui and framework-res to get ya started. beauty of this is you can literally drag and drop whole sections of other themes into the template and it will just replace those images on our phone. So if those themes in the OP have same sized images and same names, you could just drag and drop those into the respective vrtheme zip folder and flash away. Make sense? just starting to get this going again on our phones, so mess around, but be careful, I'm obviously not responsible to anything you do
it can also be used to theme paid apps, which is sweet. since your not actually including the apk itself, and the app has to be in the location specified before you apply the theme.
Trying to restore icon backup on my Epic, tried changing 3g icon in notifications bar, before change RTP made a backup in SD card, called icon-change-backups. How do I apply this backup to undo the change I made to the notification bar?
In the b/u folder there is /com.android.systemui /. Do I just find this file in system and replace it with the backup file?
Any input will be greatly appreciated and thanked.

Man, that would make sense to me. Changing your status bar icons changes your systemui.apk, correct? So I would think that if you took the backup systemui that rtp made(which should be your original set up), and drag it into your system/app, replacing the systemui.apk that's in there, reboot, you should be good to go. I'd do a back up and give it a shot. I've played around with swapping systemui's and the worst thing that happens is there's nothing at the top, or you get the blah blah had stopped unexpectedly message. Should be golden though man. Good luck, let me know how it goes!

If you want the aosp blue look then do this. Pull your systemui.apk out to your PC and rename it systemui.zip then right click it and open as archive with 7zip. Now do the same with an aosp systemui.apk and make sure the icon names are the same, rename them if you have too. Now copy all the icon images from the aosp systemui into your systemui and click ok to copy and replace the files. Now rename your systemui from .zip back to .apk and copy it to your sdcard, then backup your rom in recovery and boot back in to the OS, push the new systemui.apk you just modified to /system/app set permissions, reboot and profit.

You'll only need to do the hdpi icons in the res/layout folder if you're not changing dpi. As long as you want to keep the dpi at stock 240 then hdpi are the only icons used. If you wanna try out other dpi's then swap em all out. Anythinf below 190 will start using mdpi anything over 250 or 260 will use xhdpi
It may take a little while if the icons all need to be renamed cuz theres alot of them. If you get lucky then the names will match and the images will be different. Typically the icon names are the same but occasionally they aren't depending on the device and rom you're on. I actually may have all the icons renamed for my note 2 already if the names are different from aosp on the et4g but the same sec names as the note 2s TWiz

I completely hate asking for help and usually just figure it on my own because that's the best way to learn, and have done this before with other phones but that method just doesn't work for me on the s4.
So I've added my own shortcuts to the secsettings from Alpha rom, such as cloud storage (copy, Dropbox, drive), screen recording, pc connections (unified remote, team viewer), IR remote, etc etc and have everything how I want it.... Except one thing. I can not for the life of me change the background to a 50-75% transparent image.
So far I've changed the png, the theme in styles, color codes in colors, color codes in styles, and settings main xml, default theme lines in the Frameworks styles, changed the system background png, and a few other things I can't remember. But none give me what I want. When I first open the settings for a split second I see the transparent image I added but then it's soon covered with a black background.
So does anybody know how or where to edit for a transparent image to be the background of the sec settings?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Has the device themes in it, which I messed with by changing device theme to Device.Light which changes it to a light theme (white background/black letters). On other phones you were able to change it to Device.Transparent or Device.Transparentcy but those 2 error out on recompile.
Having a solid image is no issue by swapping out a png but using a transparent don't work because there's still a background being displayed behind it.

Right, well.. check this out:
okay, so this is how i was able to change the background of stuff like SecSettings.apk. ***warning, because of the way Samsung coded stuff, this will change the background of a lot of stock app stuff, ie MMS, Clock, etc.
you need to decompile your framework-res.apk
once this is done, nav to res\values\drawables.xml
change

#ff000000

to (or whatever color)

@drawable/background_holo_dark

You're the one complaining about not getting any replies. And before you go flipping out you should really read the rules. This sub topic is for releasing apps you've written or sharing apps specific to the s4. If you need help with something, that goes in the q&a , hence you have a question and are looking for an answer.

One I wasn't complaining.
Two if that's the case, you have some mall cop duties to jump on in some threads asking for Crap like live wallpapers and etc.
Three if you have an issue with where my thread is, I really don't give a Crap. Use the report button.

Only have an attitude towards people who try to play forum rent-a-cops who post useless Crap to what somebody is asking. Like I said kid, if you have an issue or your panties are in a wad of where my or any body's thread is located feel free to use the report button.
Notice no attitude to the one actually helpful guy that didn't play forum rent-a-cop? Yeah.
