Trying to restore icon backup on my Epic, tried changing 3g icon in notifications bar, before change RTP made a backup in SD card, called icon-change-backups. How do I apply this backup to undo the change I made to the notification bar?
In the b/u folder there is /com.android.systemui /. Do I just find this file in system and replace it with the backup file?
Any input will be greatly appreciated and thanked.

Man, that would make sense to me. Changing your status bar icons changes your systemui.apk, correct? So I would think that if you took the backup systemui that rtp made(which should be your original set up), and drag it into your system/app, replacing the systemui.apk that's in there, reboot, you should be good to go. I'd do a back up and give it a shot. I've played around with swapping systemui's and the worst thing that happens is there's nothing at the top, or you get the blah blah had stopped unexpectedly message. Should be golden though man. Good luck, let me know how it goes!

That's what I was figuring but wasn't sure, don't know much about how RTB works but do know that a lot of features don't work well.
The icon replacement option works but needs updating with more current Jb style icons and features.

That's what I did, its ok now. And the icon I replaced was working but the arrow action while communicating was in the wrong place, RTB theme was gb style with arrows on top, Jb style has the arrows below, I got a pre-install toast before i ok it and it told me that not all images where matching.
Was just trying to get some more complete blue theming to mach TD's AIO mod.
Thanks guys.

If you want the aosp blue look then do this. Pull your systemui.apk out to your PC and rename it systemui.zip then right click it and open as archive with 7zip. Now do the same with an aosp systemui.apk and make sure the icon names are the same, rename them if you have too. Now copy all the icon images from the aosp systemui into your systemui and click ok to copy and replace the files. Now rename your systemui from .zip back to .apk and copy it to your sdcard, then backup your rom in recovery and boot back in to the OS, push the new systemui.apk you just modified to /system/app set permissions, reboot and profit.

You'll only need to do the hdpi icons in the res/layout folder if you're not changing dpi. As long as you want to keep the dpi at stock 240 then hdpi are the only icons used. If you wanna try out other dpi's then swap em all out. Anythinf below 190 will start using mdpi anything over 250 or 260 will use xhdpi
It may take a little while if the icons all need to be renamed cuz theres alot of them. If you get lucky then the names will match and the images will be different. Typically the icon names are the same but occasionally they aren't depending on the device and rom you're on. I actually may have all the icons renamed for my note 2 already if the names are different from aosp on the et4g but the same sec names as the note 2s TWiz

If anyone is interested I fixed the MediaProvider.apk. For whatever reason Sprint also mismatches the SDCard Prepare Icon. Basically, when you first boot up your phone you will have the large white and blue SDCard Icon in the notification bar.
After that the icon will change back to the stock GB icon. This has always bugged me so I go through and fix the icon so it matches the rest of the theme. Anyhow, you can can simply overwrite the original but you'll need to reboot after.
Using root explorer, simply drop this in the system/app folder. I didn't zip this up because I think alot of us went back tot he stock kernel and no longer have CWM.
This is just as easy to do and all you need is root.
Enjoy..

I hear ya. I'm hoping to find the same weather/clock widget I had on my Evo 4G. This two piece deal on the E4GT is not as slick, animated or accurate as the one I had on the Evo. I really miss the windshield wiper when it rains. Gave my Evo to the wife, and tried getting off of there,... no luck. I guess I just don't know what I'm doing or what to look for.
If you download a theme like the venum ics or venum black&white, just unzip it on your PC. Take the apk for weather out and move it to your phone's SD card. Then use Root Explorer to push it to system/apps and either save over the original or rename the original with .bak at the end of the file name (like blah.apk.bak). If you rename, you just have to copy the new file in to the directory and you're set.
Just make sure u thank venum team afterwards!

The numbers are in framework-res.apk inside of the res/drawable-hdpi folders. The images that your looking for are towards the bottom but there really noticeable. It doesn't have the color in the name. They are just images so you'll have to use the image editing software of choice to change the color. If u open the drawable-hdpi folder on your PC you'll be able to see all the images inside. What I do is use 7zip to decompile/extract the apk. Then I make my changes. Then I highlight the full apk that hasn't been extracted, right click it, go up to 7zip on the menu that pops up and when u click on 7zip another folder will pop up. Choose “open archive“, I believe that's what its called. Then a folder will open up and you'll be able to see everything inside of the apk just like if u were looking at it when it was extracted. Double click on the Res folder, then highlight the drawable-hdpi and click delete. Now go get the drawable-hdpi folder that has the changes u made and drag it inside of the window that u just deleted from. Now just click the x to close that window and the apk will still be intact but it will have all the changes u made. Drop it in a flashable zip, boot into recovery, wipe cache/dalvik and flash. If your not sure about the flashable zip let me know and I'll see if I can put it together from my phone for u. Hopefully that made a little bit of sense to u. If not let me know and I'll try and do a better job explaining it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
So I would start by making a copy of the drawable-hdpi in /res / folder in framework-res apk and opening it up in 7Zip on my PC. Finding the png's pertaining to the clock zzz_unlock_clock_3_.png for example, export into photoshop change color, then replace original png's with new colored ones. Do I make sence.
The good thing about the lockscreen clock images is, you don't have to decompile them to edit them. Also, (if youre feeling savvy) you can decompile framework-res.apk, then go to framework-res.apk/res/layout and edit the color codes in "zzz_keyguard_screen_clock_gb.xml" and "zzz_keyguard_screen_glasslockinfo.xml" to make the lockscreen text match the clock. You can use Google to find color codes.

Ok, cool. You're good to go on modding lockscreen clock images. Didn't know if you were on an ICS ROM, or not.
This is making my brain hurt. 7Zip works great with Adobe CS5,it imports into Adobe Bridge and it displays all the images associated with the files, makes for quick editing in Photoshop. Having trouble finding clock fonts, that display date on lock screen. Clock part was easy, numbers, colens.

Without having to download THIS messaging app? The messaging app in my ROM has direct call and a couple of other goodies that I really like... just the colors are very boring and plain! Any help is very much appreciated, thanks.
The standard way of theming is open the mms. Apk in a zip viewer. Either win rar or 7 zip, then find the area that holds folders named draw able hdpi. Extract ONLY THE ICONS AND IMAGES You want to change. Font extract the whole apk. Then, open the images in photo shop or any editing program, change the colors as you please, save, (DONT CHANGE IMAGE NAME OR TYPE), then drop them back into the apk in the folder you found them and save changes to the zip. Once that's does, go into system/app, rename the end of the name .Bak. So apkname.Apk.bak
Then just copy and paste it into system app and then give it correct permissions if it doesn't already and then reboot

You can, you have to decompile the apk and make some edits. There's some guides around here somewhere, the only thing is the files won't be exact matches so you'll have to do some searching in there to find the lines to edit. You can remove the dots, add landscape and change the grid sizes among other things like changing out the icons etc.

Apktool should work just fine. I haven't modified tw launcher in a long while but it's just like any other apk. If I'm not mistaken calkulin has an older guide buried in the et4g section that should give you a rough guide of which lines to search for to edit, just remember they won't be exactly where they are in his guide so it'll take a little hunting if you don't have a source editor with a search feature. I'm not sure if the windoze version of notepad++ has the search function since I work in Linux when I'm modding stuff. But I don't think there's really any major differences between the win/lin versions. I'm not really a dev just a hobbiest. I'm not one for titles, I just like to mod my phone to make it mine.

Check chef central in the main forum list here on XDA. There's also dsixda kitchen which has many useful tools, including the ability to convert nandroids into flashable rom zips. There's tommytomatoes android utility, another great tool with many features including an apktool and last but not least rujelus23's AIO for apk modding, found on his site which you can link too thru one of his many threads in the et4g section. A quick google search of any of the dev+tool names+xda should take you right to their respective threads as well as detailed instructions on how to setup and use each one. Then you can choose which suits your needs and setup best, or try them all. I actually use all 4 plus some xtras as each has it's strengths and weaknesses and it never hurts to have extra tools when you're working on a stubborn project.
