T889v lte enable? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I was wondering if it is possible to enable LTE on a WIND Galaxy Note 2? I recently switched to bell, and I do not have LTE, but I know that T-Mobile has an updated Modem that enables LTE, so can I use it on my phone?

You would need LTE service to connect to. Without that it doesn't matter.

My Bell Plan, and my Bell Micro-Sim supports LTE.

I'm not sure a Tmobile modem would help you with that. Are your phone settings correct for LTE service on Bell? And, I guess, is it unlocked, with the right radio inside to connect to Bell LTE? I'm not familiar with Canadian carrier compatability.

The Mobicility/Wind/Videotron T889V's modem has LTE disabled just like the T-Mobile's T889's modem prior to the LTE update. There's a bug where flashing a T889, I317 or I317M modem through CWM or TWRP (Odin will fail before writing) leads to IMEI corruption and bootloops.
You've got some more searching and reading to do but enabling LTE has been done at least twice, by Rail205 and myself.
Good luck,

Can you possibly guide me on how you did it? And also, does your phone have LTE AND AWS HSPA, or one or the other?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

I do have both AWS LTE and HSPA from what little testing I've done with the latter. This makes sense given that's exactly the configuration used by T-Mobile.
Use the search engine, there's gotta be at least four or five threads about enabling LTE on the T889V.
Essentially this is an experimental and so far irreversible mod. So you're really kissing your warranty goodbye. And I will be of limited help if you (or I, by way of my instructions) screw up.
I'll send you a draft guide via PM if you're still interested. Consider getting an I317M and enabling AWS HSPA on it instead.

Could always sell it and buy another one that supports LTE right or of the box. Might be easier in the long run.

[Q] - T989 on ATT network

Everything seems to work relatively well with my current unlocked device on ATT. Only problem is data seems kind of patchy (speedtests show it just spiking and dropping like mad, have to hit retry frequently when loading pages or surfing the app store, etc). I am using the ATT APN settings based around the wap.cingular stuff that seems to be the most common. I average around 1mb speeds so my question is would I benefit from finding a different radio for this setup? If so which one should I try?
Device is running the Darkside venom ICS build. Thanks.

I plan on going to a straighttalk sim. Which would be off att (that's the sim I want) and I'm going to keep the ice cream sandwich kernel on it ulve1 I believe it is. I would NOT flash an att radio. I believe that would brick it.

False, you can interchange between SR and herc radios kernels and roms. Just don't odin anything.
Btw to op. Sell your herc and buy a SR for cheaper + using LTE = profitx2

I didn't think the ST plans supported LTE, so SR on ST isn't any benefit over the T989?

But one can still flash an att radio and the Hercules would ignore the lte? Or would flashing a sr radio brick the device?

OK, why do folks have an interest in flashing skyrocket stuff onto the T989? Just get a carrier unlock from TMO, get an ATT or ST ATT sim, and pop it into the T989, talk away. What am I missing? What does the SR have that the T989 doesn't?

Brick the device, they're interchangeable. Herc does not ignore lte. They don't even pick it up.

For faster data and stronger signal you want an att radio which is design to optimize those bands.
SR has LTE. other than that they're identical

its ymmv, the stock radio can pick up H+ on AT&T but for users who have slow data, flashing AT&T radios helps. Unless you're just trying to prove me wrong or something.

Trying to find some data. Something like "on att with tmo radio I get 2 MbS download, but same phone on att with att radio I get 4mbs".
I know that different combinations of radios and roms can improve reception in some areas.
I also haven't seen anything that indicates the MAGNITUDE of the difference.
I get that sometimes, maybe, if you're having trouble with your current reception, you might be able to get better reception if you flash some other radio. (from your current carrier or a different carrier)
BUT some folks think that they should almost routinely flash their T989 to an att radio if they want to use it on ATT. I haven't seen it help at all on my phone.
So my question is two fold, what is the MAGNITUDE of the difference, and, how OFTEN does it make a difference. I was hoping someone had some data on that.
Thanks!

We can enable it, but there is no way to test it since there is no LTE on the tmo network. LTE has been present in tmo phones all the way back to the GS2 t989.

I'm curious about this as well. I read the thread about enabling AWS on the i317, however all the files in that discussion seemed to be related to that particular phone and not for the t889.
I surmise that we need either the .qcn file from a stock i317 or the NV parameter to enable LTE.
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Will a ATT Galaxy S3 LTE work on T-Mobile

Hi
I have a T mobile galaxy S3 that I would like to upgrade to the T999L. I am looking to purchase it used and just sell my current phone, but there are slim pickings on ebay and the like. To open up my search I was considering getting the ATT variant of the Galaxy S3 LTE, but am not sure if that will work on the T-Mobile 4g bands.
Any info would be much appreciated

There's an engineering radio and firmware image that unlocks AWS on the at&t version... So you would get HSPA AND LTE (as long as the coverage is there)
Its not for the faint of heart though. People have HARD BRICKED by not following the directions properly which is why I'm not linking you to it. Its in the at&t S3 forum and search is your best friend. Best of luck!

As long as you're familiar with ODIN and know how to read, you will be fine. My caution is because it is not your regular ODIN. It literally was used internally by T-Mobile to test LTE... Don't even get me started on the existence of the T999L and how much of a scam T-Mobile pulled.

[Q] i747 question in regards to switching carriers

Hi all,
Just had a quick question, as I am thinking about swapping carriers from AT&T (horrible customer service and technical support). I currently have the AT&T i747, but I am thinking about switching from AT&T to T-Mobile as they are now providing Unlimited Everything for $70 per month. My question is, if I unlock my i747 for T-Mobile, which section in XDA would I go for custom ROMS, Kernels, tools and utilities and such? Would I stay here since the hardware is AT&T or would I need to migrate to the T-Mobile forums? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
In order to enable high speed data on you i747, you'll need to enable AWS frequencies on your s3 and unlock it. You could continue to use d2att ROMs if the model # on your phone does not get changed by using the T-Mobile mod.
You can use either sections, but you need to stick with i747 modems and firmwares.. And if you want to take advantage of T-Mobile's WiFi calling then you need a T-Mobile ROM.. You may or may not have to do the AWS mod. if you live in a refarmed T-Mobile area, then you'll get 4g and 4g lte fine, if not, then you may only get lte with edge being a fall back if you don't do the mod.. I used an i747 with T-Mobile and luckily my area is refarmed so I had 4g and 4g lte with no mods needed

Alot of people overlook the fact that T-Mobile uses which frequencies? Ones that are higher 1700+ mhz and someone like at&t uses 850+ the lower frequencies travel farther and penetrate walls and buildings. In my area if you get T-Mobile it os because you dont want to talk on the phone ever again...

I looked into that method (flashing nv data via qpst). I'm not sure if it will work or not, but it requires reapplication every restart, which means staying on stock firmware and re-applying any time the phone restarts. Didn't sound like a good time to me, so I gave it a miss. I'm running LTE+Edge only for now, it's not that bad, but it does make the data service very slow in general (no LTE coverage most places, so down to Edge speeds, no HSPA+).
