Interesting. But not sure how Hesse and the gang will go for it as they've already spent quite a bit of the capital infusion. More likely they're just trying to get the government to not give a stamp of approval on the Softbank deal.

I think the Softbank deal is a sensible plan that will get them to growth and profitability. Being a pawn in the Dish universe doesn't seem like it will be fun for customers.
Really, it's up to Hesse and the board to decide what is best for shareholders. The devil will be in the details, and this particular devil, a 10% price premium, does not seem adequate. Here's hoping the board strikes it down.
Dish network and Google are making a mobile carrier company and a cable company. So I hope it goes through.

Dish will destroy Sprint. They're already is considered the worst and meanest company. Dish has no clue what they're getting themselves into. Sprint should just take Softbanks offer. At least they have experience in the carrier business and know what to do with Sprint.

That's >$45 Billion dollars in debt and no direction for Sprints network other than using it to stream videos / movies for Dish customers. Do you seriously want to share a network with thousands of people using it to stream movies and videos to their TV?

This isn't related to the Epic as much as it is to Sprint. I might have mentioned my mom works at Sprint. I live in Kansas City. A lot of people here work for Sprint. But, one of my best friends just got an awesome job there. Product Development and Testing. You all know what that means.

I get people to join sprint, they get my used phone or buy buy it cheap, and I get the latest for the reduced price and what ever I sold my last phone for. Everybody wins here in this case. Although I did buy my EVO 4g full price with a credit card, I can't justify spending 500+ on a phone ill only use for 3 to 6 months.

From the article it looks like the fee is waived if you pay with ACH or are enrolled in Auto-Pay... Cell phone bills are one thing I like to pay manually, personally, but at least it's an option... I really wanted to stay with Verizon, but I didn't want to pay $10 more than Sprint for limited data... Even if the Verizon network blows away Sprint's out here.
I don't blame them.
They have to find a way to continue to pay all those technicians all that overtime to go out and fix that ultra-superior-reliable-never-breaks-except-more-than-every-other-carrier-combined LIGHTENING BOLT network.

Hey, I don't know if you signed another contract yet but I know for a fact Sprint is going to have a huge difference in service over the year. I mean HUGE. I mean really big difference. I just don't want you stuck paying twice as much with another 2 year contract.

Your questions sound like the people who work in customer service and don't want you to leave lol. I have not decided what carrier yet but I do have ideas. I've been with 3 of the 4 majors so I know 3 services and how good/bad they are. Verizon is the only one I haven't tried but they are expensive. We will see. I can't rely on Sprint's network. I got a family. What if there's an emergency you know? I can't be getting voice mails 3 days late or text messages hours or a day after they were sent by the other person. And I live in a good service area, my bars are mostly up and I get 2 bars of 4G out of 3 bars so I just don't understand it with Sprint.

and "Dish's owner Charlie Ergen has made diversifying and updating the company's technology a high priority. He told the Milken Institute Global Conference in May 2012 that over the next ten years, he plans on transforming the company into a single company that will provide internet, video and phone service for both home and mobile applications. Ergen feels that no other company has successfully accomplished this."[
Maybe it has something to do with the Network Vision coming into place?

Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to flash to a different carrier such as virgin mobile, straight talk, boost mobile, cricket, etc. Prepaid, something cheaper than $80-90 a month for unlimited everything. Also, will they blacklist or give my phone a bad ESN if I don't pay my bill? I just started my contract. Thank you.

If they did not get their end of the bargain, you won't get yours too, so pay your bills or just pay the ETF and sell off your phone.
You can flash it to other CDMA carriers, search for it around here.

Blacklist only works per carrier. Verizon blocks Verizon, sprint blocks sprint etc. Cricket wont block a Verizon phone.

For the time being, this is half true. Nationally, a carrier independent database is currently in works. Per CTIA's last report to the FCC on the subject, the GSM database was complete Oct 2012 and the LTE database will be up and running this November. Additionally, both VZW and Sprint are currently participating in multi-carrier databases that are a bit more limited than the one that will roll out later this year. Coupled with this, the FCC is championing legislation that will criminalize modifying a device's IMEI to circumvent blacklisting.
So, my bill is due today. I want to flash it to cricket and Really want to keep my number. Will it work?

No. They will not release a number when you still owe them a considerable amount of money. Furthermore, this isn't something that will just go away. You will get hounded for the money you owe. First by Verizon, and then by a third party debt collector. It will negatively affect your credit and there exists a possibility that a court judgment could be sought against you. On the off chance it comes to that, you'd be looking at owing more than the past due amount and ETF.
Have you tried calling Verizon and working with them to adjust your level of service to something you can afford at this time? Another option would be to sell the phone on Craigslist and use that to pay down the ETF. You could then get a prepaid phone which will assist in keeping your usage manageable until you're in a better situation financially.
Just a small example of how and why our economy is so f'd up.
good day.
Unless you don't care for the carrier, call them and see if you can work something out, like splitting your bill over two months and changing the plan.

I think there are 2 points here:
1. Berating strangers on the internet is just as unwise and unjust as doing so in person. We can't judge someone else's hardships and we have no right to try. Savings and planning can only go so far in the face of emergencies.
2. Solving financial problems by planning to violate your phone contract is also unwise and unjust. Contracts are binding (and if one person breaks them the cost gets passed on to everyone else), and emergencies are what savings and planning are for.
I, personally at least, think this thread is best resolved by saying: OP, I'm glad you worked it out with your provider without breaking your contract. Congratulations on your baby. Without knowing what emergency you are facing, I hope your next few months go better for you. Thank you for your service.
