Well i already tried speeding up my HERO by following the steps from another thread here in the forum and it just didn't work for me.
So Heres what i Tried and it just seems to work out for me! And its very simple too.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: DOWNLOAD "OVERCLOCKWIDGET" FROM THE MARKET AND SET THE MIN MHZ TO (128000) AND MAX TO (528000) MHZ. THIS SHOULD HELP KEEP THINGS RUNNING SMOOTH.
^^^^Also from the settings of "OverClock Widget" you can set the MHZ Frequencies while the screen if off to the a low but not so low Frequencies in order to save battery!
So if your like me and like to have a lot of widgets on your phone then Using Task manager to kill certain apps might just do the trick....
First of all never end applications such as
com.htc.socialnetwork.provider
com.htc.provder.weather
HTC media uploader
Touch input
HTC Location Service
and more! They do not have an icon if your using "advance task Manager" All other apps are good to end such as music, peep, market, Messages,Mail, Google Mail, and of course Browser which uses a lot of memory.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes...
Heres the link to a video i made to show the performance of my HTC Hero!

Thats the way i do it to.
But i also noticed, that some widgets uses more battery than others. After i removed quick calender and digital clock, i got better battery performance. That might also have some effects on the processing power
I tried this...
This afternoon and so far this morning the Hero is far more responsive after I wake it up (which was when it was at its most laggy).
I can now immediately slide around the home screens. Before I had to wait a few seconds or suffer ignored screen swipes.
I was not using the Stocks app or widget but it was set to auto update so set it to never update.
Maybe its a process that runs regardless of whether you use the app or widget ??
Know what I think might work? An app that reboots the phone.
User selects frequency of reboot (daily? every 2 days? every week?)
User selects time of reboot (12 midnight? 3 am?)
User defines Countdown period (15 seconds? 30 seconds? 1 minute?)
At the user-defined time, the app will run itself, and prompt the user "Reboot Now?". A countdown timer will start.
User can select 'Later', 'In 10 minutes', or if there is no interaction/input, when countdown reaches 0, the app will reboot the phone automatically.
This way, users will always wake up to a 'fresh' phone. What do you guys think?
Rebooting the device won't make it faster. On the contrary you have to start every apps for the first time so it takes more time.
You'd better leave it on and turn to airplane mode when you don't need it.

Tell that to my phone. It's back to it's zippy self after a reboot, and only slows down after I run Maps, Browser, Google Talk, Market and HTC Mail

Hi guys, need some help.
i've just rooted my Hero thanks to this article http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543571 and Quick Boot (which needs root) now works perfectly.
After i've installed overclockwidget i cannot start it as it gives me an error "Star-up error - cannot start Overclockwidget (need Root)".
Any ideas?
thanks in advance.
Surely increasing the CPU speed will also increase battery drain ?
Its also likely to lead to instability and additional heat (Hero gets hot enough when working hard).
Personally I would be wary of doing this.
I have no real issues with battery drainage after tweaking the processor speed; lasts about the same as it would w/out the tweaks.
I do see some minor performance improvements, but on the flip-side, the phone can also get sluggish at times upon waking it up from sleep.

wrong, mine runs at 528 MHz, and I haven't overclocked it
I can confirm that mine shows 526 (the widget number) as well out of the box. And changing the settings doesn't appear to do anything. It's always returning to 480Mhz - 528Mhz when I restart the app / widget. I've tried this both with SetCPU and OverClock Widget.
The Hero (at least some Heroes) seems to be immune to fiddling with the cpu. And I am sure I'm rooted, because I enabled paid apps in Android Market with MarketEnabler and that's working.
MarketEnabler didn't work out of the box tho - because it had a script that relied on Grep and Grep isn't installed, so I had to empty the AndroidMarket cache by hand from the terminal... Maybe there's something similar preventing fiddling with the cpu speeds?
Hi i found an app called auto killer memory which ive been running for a while. this app has worked wonders for my wilderbeast, its on fire. so ive been tampering alot with things but this seems to have stabalised my phone loads. presets i set to lost, enabled advance mode, apply at boot, ticked all system tweaks and of course when promted enabled super user. my phone is now running sweet and battery has improved too. i dont know if this makes any sense but i have noticed a difference. whoop whoop. am i over optimistic that this works the same as the v6 super charger/juwes ram optimiser ???
Ok I've ammended my settings within this app after doing some research And in memory values I'm now running at 6/10/16/100/120/160 to keep my phone running snappppppy. To explain the values in brief...... if free memory goes below 160mb my phone starts to kill empty apps etc etc as free memory goes below next value the phone starts to kill corresponding apps. Kind of makes sense to me now. Ok I know my settings makes the phone kill more frequently but its damn snappy now,and it can lower the oom settings by long pressing the app in processes section you wish to lower and choosing lower oom. Lowering the oom basically gives the app less chance of being killed.
Personally I haven't had a low memory situation since I rooted and installed cm7, the app your talking about I have installed after reading one of your other posts about it, I presume that it would work the same way as juwes after setting the low memory values, I don't use those settings with it though as I have juwes script installed, the other tweaks seem fine but again I think I had some of them covered from editing my build.prop (still have work to do on that though) and a few other little things, I can't knock this app though as it does seem to have made my battery last a bit longer since installing yesterday, I'd personally rather change the settings myself than have yet another app doing it for me but until I figure which setting seems to be helping my battery out I'll keep it installed.
A couple of other apps which might help you keep it smooth,
Autostarts- I swear by this app its one of my best buys from the market, why use a task killer when you can just stop the app starting in the first place??
Fast reboot pro- after time apps hold memory which they don't really need, hit this and it'll quickly reboot everything (unless you tell it to leave something alone) freeing up spare ram.

Cheers for info, really happy with this app at the moment.by the sounds of things its doing similar job to other script mods, which I can't get working cos of s - off issue. Posted this for s on users benefit. Hope it helps others.
Edit my settings. Read 1st post.

The only problems I see with having higher settings are if it closes something you use regular it'll be slower to open that app, I'd rather keep them set low and have apps open quickly.

I agree but this app lets you temporary lower the oom level for apps,so I just lower oom on most important. Long click on process or service and to lower.

Does it?..........I didn't spot that nice find!!

Yep,long click app in service or process then choose to lower oom.it resets if you reboot so get your settings desired then leave by pressing home button.

Change the view from pages to mb and these are the values when it will start killing processes etc. Ie. When your memory gets to the amount your phone starts freeing up starting with the highest setting (empty apps)
Its all explained above, just that you have the pages view instead of mbs.
Quote " its healthy to have enemies, it means you've stood up for something you believe in "
ahh the pagesettings are the same as the MB ones?
i thought its two different things
thanks for the explanation!
btw. do you still use the same settings?
Yes to this day I still use this app even though I'm now s-off with the settings I posted,I will just double check and ammend if needed on 1st post.

I used to use that too and I felt some differance too but I think you have to open the program every boot. But some told me that it isn't just powerful as Supercharger so I deleted the optimiser and tried Supercharged and got a bootloop instead. I didn't get it to work but I believe that Supercharger is a better solution.

i tried supercharger and juuwes but had issues which i think were specific to me but one of the issues was bootlooping from supercharger as well as other things. im not saying one is better than the other but as you and myself had issues with one of the mods then its an alternative for others to use. i prefer this as you get to control the settings and mods yourself from the app. also this is available for s-on whilst the others i believe need s-off.

I got a boot loop from supercharger. I had to wipe my phone and start again from an RUU as all my previous backups became corrupted. Nightmare. TBH in the few days that it did work, i saw/felt no difference.
Using CM_7.1.0.1 probably wouldnt advise to use the supercharge, CM_7 minfree values are set to a pretty good level to keep things in order i think

I have tried supercharge script and does make phone smooth. Also Ive use ram manager new app and that too made phone smooth. But this app (Pro) is so far great. I tried out your settings for now to see if it suits me and had the app for an hour and the phone is very snappy and smooth (which is most important to me). I hope there is a slight battery improvement that many have said on the net but will test more and will leave feed back. A big thx m8!
no probs mate, like i said i have tried the lot and this one for me is really good and you get to be the controller lol.the only drawback i have noticed is that it takes a little longer for the phone to boot after a reboot but !!!!! im ok with that.
LMFAO looks like I didn't pay enough attention... I've used a lot of tweaks already to make my Willy faster, more snappy and stable but to be honest nothing gave it such a boost like that
BTW: are you still using the settings of the op?

I see. I just have to sort things out now. Regarding the SD card read - I have it already done by sdbooster (@2048) - I'm at a point where I should make a documentation to stay on track and to avoid double tweaks lol.
I'm also very interested into scratch's build.prop lol (guess that would help to drop even more tweaks). Thx again - I've not forgotten about your tip re. AMO - just shifted it too far lol.
First hope all the Devs dont get me wrong.. im just giving some usefull tips over here in way to make everyone happy and share my achievments
You may not belive me but it worths a shot to try it i guess, since i say im able to have my GIO running over one day and half using it a lot and by that i mean:
- around 1,000 text messages (here in portugal text messages are free for same operators)
- 1-2hrs of total voice calls
- 3g always on with syncs every hour
- Wi-Fi turned on around 4hours
- Radio and music playing around 1h
- besides some games, facebook,email...etc...etc.. apps used
So think about it... i've just realized a lot of ppl in here have some problems with battery in GIO, so im not advertising im just helping everyone!!!
So what would you need?
-Samsung GIO
-Adrenaline ROM 2nd Edition
-Internet connection
-and the most important part... patience!!
So lets take this in simple steps...
Get Adrenaline ROM 2nd Edition and then is where the tricks begin...
you'll have A2SDGUI app open it:
Just activate Apps are on SD!
Zipalign on Boot is on
then on Dalvik tab:
Dalvik Cache on SD-EXT
Dalvik JIT is on!
then Move and Rebuld!
(ths step is important cause in my point of view is what it makes the rom faster after the next steps, this way you'll improve your RAM free space what is a must have eheheh)
After that phone will restart just wait and enter A2SDGUI again but now on LowMemory tab:
Select Ultimate low memory settings and CHANGE!
(no probs found with multi tasking with that config over here... but you may lower it if you find troubles)
then A2SDGUI is done
Now... i use SetCpu because of the Profiles setting if you dont have it use NoFrills CPU and skip the profiles part
Max 480000
Min 245760
Conservative
*Set on boot
Profiles part:
*Enable
1st: Screen Off
Priority 100
Max 245
Min 245
Conservative
2nd: Battery < 30%
Priority 50
Max 320
Min 245
Conservative
Ok guys that's it you've finaly made the hardest part... you can always try to edit this configs at your own desire but this is the way i found it way smooth and with good battery! Just meant to share it!
The one and the last part is a "add on" im still testing...
an app called Battery Calibration, that basicly does the same as "Wipe battery Stats" but you avoid the entering recovery part
plus im doing it weekly every fridays and just do half of the calbration process...
Let me describe it:
Friday morning when its 100% go to app to clean battery stats... and just let it go till 0% battery when its completely dead normaly at sunday while having dinner
Hope you guys liked it and appreciate my explanations... if i made some ILLEGAL thing dont censure me just warn me and if you dont like my post dont complain or insult...
AS I SAID IM JUST TRYING TO HELP EVERYONE ;D
... besides for more explanations or doubts just ask
And dont forget to hit Thanks if this helped you for sure
Now is up to you guys to try it or not, as i said no differences in performance but big ones in battery

and besides that topic is from Ace, but doesnt differ too much from mine so thats nce to see
besides he talks in undervolting and havent see any values for it but is something im going to try it soon on GIO and check the results...
Just to add some more info on my post battery last for 2 days now the battery calibration is maybe working for sure lol
if anyone has tried my methods please post feedback

No wonder you are doubling the battery life, you're clocking it to half the speed!
Doesn't it affect performance though?
thanks for trying to help people.....That part i appreciate.
underclocking the phone will be good for only those that rarely use their phone for anything other than phone calls/texts....but for using browser, games etc...it will be terribly rough....
why is battery life such a concern? it doesn't matter to me if i plug it in beside my bed each night if i have to.
to each their own though
but the main things that affect battery is not the cpu speed....its the use of internet (mobile net or wifi) along with the things that occur in the background such as email and messenger app syncs that use internet.
edit: i reread this part again:
ou may not belive me but it worths a shot to try it i guess, since i say im able to have my GIO running over one day and half using it a lot and by that i mean:

Well I find your advice good, but I clock it at 673 MHz max, it's smoother and I can do absolutely everything. But all in all, great

I do not experience this issue. When you flashed the rom, did you do a clean install? Have you formatting the device?
Yup.. I format everything.. I use the touch recovery and just use every option that it provides and wipe everything.. It even does it when there is nothing installed. I usually delete almost all the useless system apps that I don't use like the google music app and all of the ones civato provides... I even change the animation settings to .5 in the developer section.. should I turn them off all together?

This is starting to sound like a hardware issue. Before that is concluded, you could:
- Make sure the governor is not set to "conservative"
- Try a clean install of CM9
If the problem still arises, its most likely a hardware issue.
I'm using the OC kernel and have it to 1500.. I also always leave it on performance.. I figure it would kill my battery life but I don't use it much.. and i tried cm9 also.. too many issues as of right now

It doesn't seem it can be anything else but a hardware issue in that case.
NB. Overclocking to a high frequency can cause instability and bring about that issue (but since you experienced it on the stock rom, its quite likely not to be that).
the overclocking helps to speed it up a tad bit.. for the most part it just lags.. i did a clean install just now
Thought I would jump in. Stock ics would slow down and lag on me, jittery transitions poor performance in games or movies, but it took an hour not a few minutes. However testing the T20 kernel before the release kernel had that exact issue, bogging and lagging within minutes.
His release kernel doesnt do it, and flex extreme as well as my cm9 builds don't, even with T20 kernel. Consider flashing that kernel to see what happens.
Side note...what issues did you have with cm9? And what release? My build 1 has been running for 3 days no reboots stable as can be undervolted and OC when needed. Something to maybe think to try to see if it persists. T20 kernel works fine with it too.

That reminds me...setting a screen off profile with the same min/Max speed can cause issues with that, give Max a notch or two higher. And don't have it change the governor leave it the same. So like interactive screen on Myst nit be conservative screen off, doesn't work that way.

I had the same issue on stock. I noticed there are 2 weather applications installed (version 1 and version 2) immediately after I disabled the old weather application (version 1) this stopped happening. I used the ICS GUI to do the disable.
This might not be the case in custom rom, but is true for stock. Post reply and let me know if this fixed it for you also.

I felt the need to add my two cents in this....this has been happening to me for the longest with the flex reaper rom ONLY. I've used stock and ZN's rom and those did not lag after unlock...only flex reaper. I'm currently using flex reaper and still experience it from time to time but doesn't destroy my day at all...

Hi,
I have a rooted sm-p600. I have been finding ways to speed up my tablet and reduce (if not totally eliminate) the lag.
First, I installed wanam xposed module and enabled/disabled the "touchwiz DVFS" option and "Enable boost mode" option. I don't know if it makes any difference and I'm not totally sure either what that option is for. So if anyone could tell me if I should enable/disable it, that'll be great,
Second, I tried to use an overclocking app, "no-frills cpu" and "cpu tuner". I know that I actually have to have a custom kernel which enables overclocking but I really didn't need to overclock my tablet, I just basically want to keep my min and max frequencies to 1.9 so that means, it won't try to underclock my cputo save battery (which the kernel is doing by default). It works great and it DID eliminate the lag and the tablet was so snappy. But there's one glitch. If I lock the tablet, it fails to wake up. And I had to do a forced reboot. But there's one thing I've noticed and this may be of help to someone who is trying to figure out how to eliminate the known lag issue in the note 10.1 (2014). It only hangs if the tablet is not charging. Meaning, if I set the max and min frequencies to 1.9ghz, it hangs (once locked) if the tablet is not plugged into the charger. If I plug it into the charger, even if I lock it and unlock it several times, it doesn't hang.
So, anybody got any clue as to how to resolve this issue? Or has anyone come up with a better kernel for this tablet?
Try setting the min to 1.3 ghz see what that does or try using flux to set min Max and memory read times to 3072 or whatever the value is I forget. Play around with the settings and I'm sure you will find a better more stable experience. I don't know how having two quad cores affects the performance maybe that's why you getting the black screen and no wake on battery. It might have to tick over the lower quad first before it kicks in the main one. Might be taxing the battery to much clocking straight to 1.9. Hope this helps let me know how you get on

Which overclocking app are you referring to? I would assume you're talking about "cpu tuner" as the other app I've mentioned in my initial pose which is "no-frills cpu control" doesn't have any other settings besides the min and max frequency.
GOOD NEWS though! I got cpu tuner to work! I did lower the min frequency to 1.8ghz and kept max at 1.9ghz. Actually, there are only 3 selectable values for both fields, it's 250mhz, 1.8ghz and 1.9ghz. I gave 1.8ghz a try, locked the tablet, it froze, then I restarted it. The settings were reapplied when I logged back in, then after that it never froze again even after I've locked it a few times. The performance is excellent! I tried running multiple apps on pen window. I've never seen it perform this well since I bought this tablet! Let's see if it works well in a few days.

Yeah best to try flux123 kernal app on the playstore you can set a lot more in there. Works like a treat on my s4. Set it to 1.3 and 1.9. I'll post some more settings to try later. All I've got is nova launcher and disabled as much blout that I don't use. Not yet rooted on my tablet but just doing them two simple things makes a ton of difference. As you rooted you could use root uninstaller to remove touchwiz and other stupid startup processes. I did it last week on my tab 8.0 got rid of 12 pointless processes now that flys wouldn't even think it was the tablet. Can't wait for a oc kernel and decent rom for the note 10.1 will come into its own then. To bad Samsung killed it with all there unneeded rubbish .

At this point, I don't really mind the slight degrading of the battery life, I just want the tablet to be snappier.
By the way, I installed faux123, but it seems that I cannot change the settings. Like when I try to drag the min frequency slider to 1.3ghz, it slides back to 250mhz. Also, all of the other settings I set revert back to the original settings after I reboot. I have enabled the "set on boot" options on all screens, but they all just revert back to original settings on reboot. Am I missing something?

Just came back to check for anymore help I could give and the best thing I can advice is clean rom. Fly's with nova launcher but still haven't got any kernals to take advantage of flux yet which sucks abit but trust me you won't be disappointed by clean rom if you haven't already got it on your tab don't waste another second
