Autokiller memory optimizer. - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i found an app called auto killer memory which ive been running for a while. this app has worked wonders for my wilderbeast, its on fire. so ive been tampering alot with things but this seems to have stabalised my phone loads. presets i set to lost, enabled advance mode, apply at boot, ticked all system tweaks and of course when promted enabled super user. my phone is now running sweet and battery has improved too. i dont know if this makes any sense but i have noticed a difference. whoop whoop. am i over optimistic that this works the same as the v6 super charger/juwes ram optimiser ???
Ok I've ammended my settings within this app after doing some research And in memory values I'm now running at 6/10/16/100/120/160 to keep my phone running snappppppy. To explain the values in brief...... if free memory goes below 160mb my phone starts to kill empty apps etc etc as free memory goes below next value the phone starts to kill corresponding apps. Kind of makes sense to me now. Ok I know my settings makes the phone kill more frequently but its damn snappy now,and it can lower the oom settings by long pressing the app in processes section you wish to lower and choosing lower oom. Lowering the oom basically gives the app less chance of being killed.

Personally I haven't had a low memory situation since I rooted and installed cm7, the app your talking about I have installed after reading one of your other posts about it, I presume that it would work the same way as juwes after setting the low memory values, I don't use those settings with it though as I have juwes script installed, the other tweaks seem fine but again I think I had some of them covered from editing my build.prop (still have work to do on that though) and a few other little things, I can't knock this app though as it does seem to have made my battery last a bit longer since installing yesterday, I'd personally rather change the settings myself than have yet another app doing it for me but until I figure which setting seems to be helping my battery out I'll keep it installed.
A couple of other apps which might help you keep it smooth,
Autostarts- I swear by this app its one of my best buys from the market, why use a task killer when you can just stop the app starting in the first place??
Fast reboot pro- after time apps hold memory which they don't really need, hit this and it'll quickly reboot everything (unless you tell it to leave something alone) freeing up spare ram.

Cheers for info, really happy with this app at the moment.by the sounds of things its doing similar job to other script mods, which I can't get working cos of s - off issue. Posted this for s on users benefit. Hope it helps others.

Edit my settings. Read 1st post.

The only problems I see with having higher settings are if it closes something you use regular it'll be slower to open that app, I'd rather keep them set low and have apps open quickly.

I agree but this app lets you temporary lower the oom level for apps,so I just lower oom on most important. Long click on process or service and to lower.

Does it?..........I didn't spot that nice find!!

Yep,long click app in service or process then choose to lower oom.it resets if you reboot so get your settings desired then leave by pressing home button.

Change the view from pages to mb and these are the values when it will start killing processes etc. Ie. When your memory gets to the amount your phone starts freeing up starting with the highest setting (empty apps)
Its all explained above, just that you have the pages view instead of mbs.
Quote " its healthy to have enemies, it means you've stood up for something you believe in "

ahh the pagesettings are the same as the MB ones?
i thought its two different things
thanks for the explanation!
btw. do you still use the same settings?

Yes to this day I still use this app even though I'm now s-off with the settings I posted,I will just double check and ammend if needed on 1st post.

I used to use that too and I felt some differance too but I think you have to open the program every boot. But some told me that it isn't just powerful as Supercharger so I deleted the optimiser and tried Supercharged and got a bootloop instead. I didn't get it to work but I believe that Supercharger is a better solution.

i tried supercharger and juuwes but had issues which i think were specific to me but one of the issues was bootlooping from supercharger as well as other things. im not saying one is better than the other but as you and myself had issues with one of the mods then its an alternative for others to use. i prefer this as you get to control the settings and mods yourself from the app. also this is available for s-on whilst the others i believe need s-off.

I got a boot loop from supercharger. I had to wipe my phone and start again from an RUU as all my previous backups became corrupted. Nightmare. TBH in the few days that it did work, i saw/felt no difference.
Using CM_7.1.0.1 probably wouldnt advise to use the supercharge, CM_7 minfree values are set to a pretty good level to keep things in order i think

I have tried supercharge script and does make phone smooth. Also Ive use ram manager new app and that too made phone smooth. But this app (Pro) is so far great. I tried out your settings for now to see if it suits me and had the app for an hour and the phone is very snappy and smooth (which is most important to me). I hope there is a slight battery improvement that many have said on the net but will test more and will leave feed back. A big thx m8!

no probs mate, like i said i have tried the lot and this one for me is really good and you get to be the controller lol.the only drawback i have noticed is that it takes a little longer for the phone to boot after a reboot but !!!!! im ok with that.

LMFAO looks like I didn't pay enough attention... I've used a lot of tweaks already to make my Willy faster, more snappy and stable but to be honest nothing gave it such a boost like that
BTW: are you still using the settings of the op?
Holy crap, I've read that really often here and elsewhere but it's the first it applies to myself: feels like a new phone

I use aggressive setting mostly, all advanced tweaks except sdcard boost one as this bumps read ahead up to 2048, just my preference you might prefer 2048.

I see. I just have to sort things out now. Regarding the SD card read - I have it already done by sdbooster (@2048) - I'm at a point where I should make a documentation to stay on track and to avoid double tweaks lol.
I'm also very interested into scratch's build.prop lol (guess that would help to drop even more tweaks). Thx again - I've not forgotten about your tip re. AMO - just shifted it too far lol.

a simple way to get rid of lag (most of it)

hi everyone, i'm no expert on phone, so don't kill me if i sound stupid
been using my galaxy S for about 4 months now. and yes it does lag compare to the iphone, or other HTC phones. so i been trying to find out, what's going on? why is my top end phone lagging? here's what i found:
1) when does it start to lag badly?
i installed system panel which gives me a nice list of active and inactive apps, and how much free ram i have left. the phone ALWAYS starts to lag like crazy when ram gets below 60mb. this is a problem - samsung is not giving us enough free ram to play with as once we run a few apps (market, internet especially), we're reaching the 60mb point already. when the phone gets to the 60mb mark it tries to manage the apps by closing some less important ones. but it lags BADLY while doing so.
what's gonna happen is the phone gonna get into this never ending cycle of closing apps and laggin as it's stuck in around the 50mb-60mb mark.
i can solve this by going to system panel and closing all inactive apps. then the ram is gonna go back to around 140mb. however after opening a few apps, once again it goes back to below 60mb and the lag starts again.
2) autokiller
guys been saying autokiller is great and they go with the aggressive settings. i tried it and it made the phone worse. why? because instead of killing apps at the 60mb mark it starts killing apps even sooner! that's wasting battery, wasting free ram, and making the phone even slower. we don't have enough free ram to begin with, so we should make max use of it. here's how i do it:
1) root the phone. install autokiller from the market.
2) instead of using high aggressive settings, use the LOWEST settings. i use advanced mode and then enter all values to 8mb only.
now it is awesome!! the phone never lags until you get it down to around the 20mb mark. you now have around 40mb of extra ram to use (of course autokiller does use some ram but no big deal). the lag starts much latter. u may not think 40mb is a lot but it is in practice!
if you dont believe me, you can try it. it may or may not work for u, but it's definitely working for me. of course, once the ram falls below 20mb, it may be a good idea to close some inactive apps yourself, LOL
but really, samsung should give us at least 100mb more free ram, i can't believe i even have to do this!
Well you point one issue that lag happens, but almost every custom kernel/Rom use memory tweak that Make you around 40MB more to start with.
And yes autokiller don't work good.
The program in the phone is the best to use.
The main lag issue is the filesystem.
Even these can be fixed with many different kernel/Rom.
Sent from GT-I9000 jpo. My own kernel for z4mod and with 341MB Ram
i don't disagree with what you're saying. but a few things to add:
1) i have not applied lag fix myself but i have a friend who has. i dont feel his phone is much quicker than mine in reality. also, his phone crashed after a few weeks and he had to do a hard reset. what we REALLY need is more ram. if we have lots of ram, who cares about the file system? we don't even need any swap from the file system. just let everything stays in ram where it is the quickest.
2) i'm not using any custom roms. if custom roms give me extra 40mb, and then i adjust the auto killer setting to low, that gives me 80mb extra to play with. great.
autokiller DOES work good i feel if you're doing what i'm saying. maybe u have already tried what i'm doing, i don't know, but if you have not, then i highly recommend you to try it.
like i said i'm no expert on this, but autokiller is so easy to install and adjust, and that i feel anyone here can use it
maybe flashing custom firmware is easy to do, i haven't tried it, but it sounds complicated to do for me, and i don't want really big changes on my phone, i want it to be extremely stable and safe as i use it a lot for business. i don't really want to risk any data or risk reinstalling stuff.
so maybe i sound uneducated but like i said i suggest everyone to try this method if they're newbies and don't wanna do too much
I can confirm that setting autokiller to low settings makes the phone feel faster than on high settings, I tried that some time ago.
But lag will still be present.
As mentioned by the poster this is a low risk, low skill method of improving the phone and is easy to do for all.
For all others I recommend the JFS lagfix. It is by far the lagfreest experience out there!
i have a buddy with a moto milestone and his phone lags just the same as ours. his phone has even less free ram than ours and so his is constantly lagging. sometimes he can't even take a phone call while listening to music becoz his phone only has like 50mb of free ram after starting up. so, just a point of reference - our galaxy is crippled with just not enough free ram, i heard stories of nexus one having 200+ free ram after startup and that's why they dont lag like us, so at the end of the day we're fighting a losing batter becoz samsung didn't give us a good enough phone

thank u and i may try the jfs fix, but i'm just worried about something happening to the phone becoz of what happened to my buddy who lost all his data (i can't remember which lag fix he used though), i always have this thinking that if the lag fix are 100% safe, then why aren't samsung doing it? samsung are paying tons of money to the programmers i'm sure and you would think they know how to do it too? but they choose not to, and there must be a good reason why.
You have a very good point supraman123! I realized it was the memory management that made the phone go crazy around the 60MB mark (you'll see the kswapd0 process go crazy), but never realized Autokiller could help us lower that mark. I hope this works, would be one of the best and easiest fixes for the SGS.

If we know the amount of time and money Samsung spend on developing RFS...
So wait, the phone is faster if the minfree is set higher than default, and the phone is faster if the minfree is set lower than default... holy ****!
I applaud Samsung for figuring out the one setting that makes the phone suck and use that as default. Way to go, Sammy, way to go.
I know what u are talking about. I think it was an ext4 fix. All other lag fixes I know of don't share that problem.
Also with root there are many ways to secure your data prior to installing a lag fix.

i'm quite disappointed at the ram issue also. coming from a n97 mini which seriously lacks ram, i was hoping by going for a high end phone like the galaxy, i aint gonna have to worry about ram and closing apps manually all day, however in reality the Galaxy aint much better than the n97 at multi tasking. of course, it's far better than the n97 at everything else.
I totally agree with OP on this one!
But Autokiller is not the only app that can fix the lag.
One Click Lag Fix 2.0 can root your SGS (Eclair only), lagfix it (with EXT2) and it can even do some additional tweaks like minfree (same as the Autokiller app) and fix the Scheduler.
With minfree Samsung put these values in "/sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree":
"2048,4096,5120,5632,6144,7172"
But best is:
Aggressive: "1536,2048,4096,21000,23000,25000"
or
Strict: "1536,2048,4096,15360,17920,20480" - I prefer this one
btw when you've a lot of ram free the ram is mostly used to cache file system reads ^.^
this explains that a little
Im using the 341MB of free ram so that gives me an instant 40MB ontop of the stock kernel, never seen the phone had less than 60mb free with this kernel, with my usage it doesnt even go under 95mb free.
I am also running one of those kernels that gives extra RAM. And I have all my partitions Ext4 lagfixed. But my phone still seems quite slow at times. My RAM was above 80MB free at that time though, so probably not related to any minfree/Autokiller thing at all. Which means there are way more causes to get rid of I guess.
I don`t know how you guys have problems with the lag, I use the stock samsung JPO, not even deodexed with zankinz 23 kernel and NO-RFS all ext4 lagfix and the phone is running perfectly, no lag whatsoever, the RAM is somewhere near 220 mb free after reboot. After deodexing and optimizing the apk`s the phone should run even better. I was determined to change my SGS with a Desire HD, but now I`m really thinking of keeping it.

Speed Up The Galaxy Y

Speed up the galaxy y smartphoneGuys today I am going to teach you how to speed up the galaxy y.The galaxy y has many problems.Low ram and processor speed being one of them. However, this is mostly due to factors which can be reduced and avoided. This guide is divided into two parts.Root section and Non root section. The rooted users can follow the non root section too but the non rooted users cant follow the root section(Duh!!)After following these steps your galaxy y should run like a galaxy s2!!!:laugh::laugh:
Non Root Section
Apps
Get these two cool apps to boost your phones speed:
1)Android Speed booster(its Free)
2)Smart Ram booster(free and paid)
Some ppl use Nq mobile booster but i personally think its meant for high end phones. The Nq mobile booster itself hogs abt 20 mb ram in the background and,for the most part, its like an antivirus.
Widgets
Widgets are meant for quick access and are one of android's biggest selling points. However, loading up your home screen with widgets can be counterproductive as they hog ram.one or two widgets are O.K but over three? cause for worry. And,avoid interactive widgets like animated ones.they are ram hoggers!!
Service Check
Many people will be surprised to see this here but really, its one of the most important steps.Long press on the home screen.Go to Add>Shortcuts>Settings>Running Services. It should then place a shortcut on your home screen.Periodically, click on the shortcut and check how many services are running in the background.Useless ones like games services can be terminated!
This step may sound tedious at first, but itll soon beccome a habit for speed geeks.Try this step, youll be surprised how many useless servicves can be terminated, thus freeing up precious ram...
Antivirus
Are you using lookout? if yes, then change to AVG.Lookout hogs over 25 mb ram in the background!!Sorry lookout fans!!
App configurations
Have you configured a app to run in the background?? if so ask yourself this questiono I really need that service? At the cost of ram??If the answer is no,then change the app configuration. If its yes, then you arent a speed freak
Launchers
Launchers are awesome.period! Not only are they more customizable and look better, many a time, they also use less ram than your stock launcher! So,what are you waiting for,if youve not already got one, them get one!!!Some of the best launchers(graded on speed, storage usage, and memory)are:-Lightning launcher,Adw launcher and launcher pro.Go launcher uses too much ram and storage, making it an ideal choice for high end phones but not for the y!!
Root Your Phone!!
The following steps require root access. So go ahead root your phone! its 99.9% safe!Just google root the galaxy y and there appears the process! Its a really simple process really.Just6 downloading a file called update.zip and installing it in recovery!
Root Section
V6 Supercharger by zeppelinrox
As any speed freak would know, the v6 supercharger is an awesome script made by an xda dev called zeppelinrox. It basically defragments your ram, changes priorities and most importantly, makes your phone blazingly fast! Here is the link to a guide made by another xda dev called carl dean catabay:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1603953
Apps
Get the following apps for root to speed up your phone
1)Autokiller memory optimizer
2)Game booster
I dont think they are available on play store,so get them as apks!
Bloatware and Crapware
Apps preinstalled by the manufacturer and wireless carrier are called bloatwares. Most of them are absolutely useless and do nothing but hog ram and storage. So,do you want them on your phone?Hell no!!So get a root file explorer and delete them in system/app!!
Custom Rom
A custom rom can greatly enhance your phone!Besides, its also a certificate of geekiness! So,get a custom rom today!!But before that,i would like to say that custom roms and V6 Supercharger dont mix well. So,first check whether your rom is compatible or not before running V6 supercharger.
Authors NoteI would first of all like to say that I am not responsible for any damage to your device which may have occurred from not following some root steps properly. It is,as i said,99.9% safe but some noobs will have still bricked their phones!Secondly,I would like to ask you not to copy my guide onto other forums.Lastly, please rate this thread five stars if it helped.New steps will be added soon!!
Thank you ...

As you may have noticed by now,I am a speed freak! So,i actually was running a custom rom.So,V6 superchargers minfree values and my roms did not match and my phone slowed down.Thats why i hve added in the custom rom column, custom roms and V6 supercharger do not mix well!Eplecially if the rom has its own minfree values,I wanted to share my ways of speeding up my phone with others.V6 supercharger is not a choice of mine but others love it so i included it.It dosent work on my phone because of the above reason. However, itll work for urs.Guaranteed!!!

Apps preinstalled by the manufacturer and wireless carrier are called bloatwares. Most of them are absolutely useless and do nothing but hog ram and storage. So,do you want them on your phone?Hell no!!So get a root file explorer and delete them in system/app!!

good advice but you'll need a complete list of the bloatwares. most of user here doesn't know which app are safe to be removed.
Custom Rom
A custom rom can greatly enhance your phone!Besides, its also a certificate of geekiness! So,get a custom rom today!!But before that,i would like to say that custom roms and V6 Supercharger dont mix well. So,first check whether your rom is compatible or not before running V6 supercharger.

any proof on it? most of these app just give placebo effect. remember that modfying system always need root permission. how could these app boost our device without root permission?
somehow it doesn't match with the title. antivirus is comsuming a lot of ram space and it has great impact on device performance. using no antivirus is recommended if you want a fast device
sounds easy...but how to change it? the setting is saved inside the apk itself. native android GB setting can do nothing about it. app like autostart manager needs root permission.
V6 Supercharger by zeppelinrox
this tweak doesn't always running well in sgy. anyway, this tweak also too general. there are a lot of better tweak specified for samsung devices or sgy. you can make it simpler by simply saying "use any system tweaks".

On the defensive now, apps like speed booster just kill unnecessary apps and clear cache, thus giving a quick, temporary, but effective speed boost.thus, they dont need root
As for antivirus,in this day and age its just stupid not to have an antivirus.AVG used5mb ram, lookout uses 26!thus i say switch to AVG.
By app config,i mean the setting of the app.for example, enabling real time scanner on a antivirus could have a negative effect on performance.such settings can be tweaked inside the app itself.
V6 supercharger works 90%of the time.and cuz of xda, even the other 10%can get it to work!!
I didnt get ur look above.
And,noobs are not generally speed freaks.so,i thought any not noob would know the difference between bloatware and important app
And custom roms give speed increases and a new lease of life to devices.
Thanks for the advice,
Hope i clarified things.

all task killer not kill unnecessary apps, they kill random unlucky apps. they don't know which one is unnecessary. if you open browser then need do something like check your mail, then your task killer think your browser is useless because it' not active, then all your opened page is lost and need to reopen (download). that's not fast
and what do you mean with cache? io/storage cache in memory? only kernel can do it, and it's completely automatic. and cache make io/storage access faster. or disk cache? you need root access.
and android already have build in task killer which is already working great in gingerbread.
antivirus? freaks don't need antivirus. freaks read apps permission. freaks not install apps from untrusted source. freaks aware if something wrong with his/her device.
good custom rom give speed improvement. bad one is not. the question is which one is good ? if your answer is non noob would know which one is good, then all non noob already know all you tips. they don't need it.
i love android. unfortunately android community have a lot of myth and misconception

if you insist...in a more explained reason. no user level app could kill another user level app. more ram space is also always be a bad idea in a linux based system like android. a simple test with an app like antutu will shows you an objective and measurable result. no performance boost

personally I prefer to use none of it. no malware reported could damage our system. most of them only a kind of data stealing app. we could filter it faster than any antivirus did. even if we accidentally installed one, we can simply uninstall it. system damage count-->zero. the ram usage is only one thing. we should also consider the cpu load on our device. these kind of app use more resource than usual app.

can you run it on stock rom with stock kernel? of course not. you can check the values between this tweak and the one in the system. most of them are different.
1. these tweak needs a custom kernel with init.d support.
2. galaxy series tweak like adrenaline, stamatis's or nitrospeed is more favored since they're specially designed for low ram devices like sgy. v6 is too general and not suitable with our device. you should understand it better than anyone else

for the custom rom, are you sure it faster? most of custom roms have a kind of placebo effect, makes the user 'feels' that it faster than stock rom. well, that's a subjective view on it. on an objective view, custom rom have average 1800-1900 antutu score. the highest result is ~2100 with repencis rom. on other hand stock rom could hit 1900+ easily. the highest score is ~2200. none of custom rom could beat it ^,^v

It does give a boost, but you guys dont mean what boost is, it kills the background processes hence giving a boost, but the processes need to run in background at all times, hence they will open again automatically, you close them, then open, its like a cycle, will it increase any battery saving or performance? Its common sense..

Linux doesnt have any viruses(aside from spywares which steal your personal info) like windows..also, its almost impossible to create a virus on android..using avg or any antivirus is waste of ram+battery since the play store applications wont have any viruses in it, unless you download apks from unknown sources, an antivirus is not required. BTW,on my experimentation, avg antivirus with real time scanning uses more battery than a launcher or anything (Dont draw conclusions that its just 5 MB, it needs to run 24x7, needs to verify every site you browse, need to scan sd card every time it mounts up, so it takes more battery than a launcher or a refreshing home widget takes)

Stock ROM is way better than custom ROM, custom ROMs are just smooth to use thats it, battery backup, gaming, multi tasking, everything is a lot better
than custom ROMs. Go check antutu benchmarks and no custom ROM can touch stock ROMs benchmarks, now that makes some sense isnt it?
Guys u say that avg is best antivirus on speed . I use kaspersky. Is that OK or how compared to avg?

[SHARE] Battery Saving Techniques!

NOTE: Im turning this into a sharing thread where everybody can post and share their techniques on how they save battery consumption. I'll quote all the useful suggestions here in the first post
I would like to start off by saying that all ROMs basically consume badly just like the stock version. There could be little to no differences between them with regards to battery performance. Right now I would like to share my observation, on what I presume to be one of the best ways to save battery while maintaining good performance.
glennlevi's Technique:
1. Get Antutu Battery Saver Pro (Free version can be found in the market). Install and untick the option control cpu speed.
2. Using No Frills CPU, or any other built-in cpu settings app, select your default governor (bcm####) and sio as your I/O scheduler. Maximum Frequency should be your highest available, and Minimum Frequency your lowest available.
3. Manually adjust screen brightness in settings to about 20%.
4. Untick Background Data and Auto Sync in settings, under Accounts and Sync Settings.
5. Get Ram Booster (Free in market) and install. Open. Under settings, set Boost Level to aggresive, set whitelist apps and tick your launcher, sms app, keyboard, and Ram Booster and Antutu Battery Saver. Untick Show Overlay Widget in Overlay Widget Settings. Enable the widget in the notification bar, refresh every 5s, Report Style Dont Show. Under Advanced Settings, set Feedback to None. Clean Ram using this app everytime just before you turn off your screen or want to stop using your phone.
6. Drag down your notification bar and tap the Ram Booster Notification. Now wait a couple of mins while browsing through your phone (without opening any apps)
*You can use other task killers if you want, but Ram Booster is the best IMO. A better replacement however is 360 launcher's cleaner widget (which will save more memory, ram and battery usage since its all in one app)
7. Open settings and go to Applications>Running Processes and look at all running apps, you will see some auto-start apps like Beats Audio, DSP Manager, Google Mail, Google Maps, Google Playstore and others. Uninstall all user apps that have autostarted. Download Titanium Backup and use it to uninstall stock bloatware, like google maps and google mail, or other custom bloatware like Beats Audio (If you dont use them at all). Clean Dalvik Cache using Titanium Backup and Clean Cache using Ram Booster. Freeze seldom used apps like Google Playstore. Just unfreeze when you want to use them.
*You can use other apps like Root Uninstaller to remove system apps, but IMO Titanium Backup is the easiest to use and has one of the most functions.

2. ANY app that suggest or implies that they save battery defeats their own purpose for they themselves consume battery life...figures.
3. ANY app that has "killer" attached to it isn't really helpful because most of the app be it user or system just restarts after. Same goes for anything with "booster"..
4. Ram cleaner should suffice
5. keep most settings to a minimum.

First off I would like to quote myself -
"Right now I would like to share my observation, on what I presume to be one of the best ways to save battery while maintaining good performance."
As such, Im sharing this because
1. I think it might help other people.
2. I've tried it and compared it many times in many different rom, and what I recommend is based from my own experience
3. I know youre a dev. Im not, obviously. That doesnt mean I cant share what I think is useful. This is also backed up by the fact that Im not claiming Im sure that these actually work and that I can back it up with additional information. Again, this is just based on my experience.
again I would like to repeat the quotation from myself:
"Right now I would like to share my observation, on what I presume to be one of the best ways to save battery while maintaining good performance."
There you go. I hope that clears it all up. So please dont pick on me or anything just because Im not a dev. Thank you.

Well, thanks anyways for noticing my thread. Now I know some of my suggestions may be far from the theoretical facts that you know, but there are times when actually testing something and comparing it with others yield better results than just looking up the figures. Anyway, maybe I'll edit this thread and make it a SHARING THREAD instead. I'll just regularly view it and put all suggestions that other members have in the first post

Sir i want to ask you onething, offtopic, in nexus there is no memorycard slot, so we have to keep all data including gallery files and even a new rom in phone memory. If we want to flash a new rom, then how can we do that? While we wipe the data and cache before flashing all data will be deleted? The rom file too?.

[Q] How do you deal with lag?

Ok i really hate to say it and i know we all experienced this one time or another but, the HTC one v lags A LOT. It has its ups and sometimes is fast, but overall it's starting to really affect the whole experience. I've tried a lot of roms before and the problem is always there, even if i o/c or use scripts and stuff. But im not here to complain, i just want to know how you guys deal with lag, if any.

Just general lag every now and then. I also use greenify. But i think its because of all my apps that i have. On my old optimus v i had hundreds of apps and now i have to make sure to keep them low on the one v. Honestly the lag isn't all that bad, im really just curious as to how other people config there phones and what stuff they use.

Stock rom is a no go, you expected to be lag a lot. Custom rom is much smoother.

I disabled greenify and it is still working smoothly. However I don't have loads of apps installed but still, ONE V releases free RAM memory when it's needed, keeping most of tasks running. So for example when you need that extra memory for some action, it will free it by for example closing an app when it decides to do so.

Greenify free ver is just a kid. It only works for user apps, no system apps. The goal of greenify isn't memory managment, you are talking about somethings else like SuperCharged V6 script(I'm using it too).
One of the main problem on android is there are lots of app like to start itself even you aren't needed or do not run/call them out, they just come out random and waste your cpu/ram/battery a lot, install SystemPanel Lite on Google Play and check it period by yourself. Greenify is to stop these kinds of action completely and paid ver does 90% of its job.

For the performance and battery friendly, I highly suggest you to try out this new rom Sense 4 Canadian KOODO(with SuperCharge V6), it got both advantages, really smoother than many other custom roms.
However, greenify donate ver is still a must on all roms. I also recommend you to install CrossBreeder 5.21 ver(only old ver is stable) on xda and remember to change the wake to 16 from 256 default, it is a script to fix android UI lag. Since 512MB ram isn't enough, you could give SuperCharge V6 memory management script a try as well.
I have used all stuffs above personally and my One V now is much more useable. Don't overclock much, some phones or kernel don't do good in overclocking.

I have not used any SuperCharged V6 script, did it come along with my myONEv ROM? If not, is it a big upgrade if I flash it? I think I'll consider buying Greenify full version as you said, this is going to help a lot. However still, I am not experiencing any lags yet(fresh system).
Just curious, what settings do you guys use for the paid greenify? And btw im on rhytmic rom 4.2.2

There is no extra settings in donate ver, the only different is allows you to freeze a lot more apps which doesn't support in the free ver but you have to install xposed installer and enable both free/donate in it and reboot.

No, only Sense 4 Canadian KOODO comes with SuperCharge V6 but you can install it on myONEv rom. I'm using it on mySENSE 3.5 rom pretty much identical to yours but with full sense, it works nearly perfect with my rom/kernel fixed most of the memory problem. It doesn't give you God mode but provides a very constant/stable speed environment and hence, increased overall user experiences with the spend of a little bit battery(I think it actually uses me 20% battery more, not sure if my settings go wrong).
So..... if you don't encounter any memory shortage problem during multi-tasking, you might not need it, try it yourself. It ate me 40~50mb free memory but I think it just need some space to do management or caching, or again it might be my settings problem sololy. There are too much of tweaking options in this script. If you want a speed hack, you should try CrossBreeder script(5.21 build with wake16) instead, it does speed up your UI responsive and in my experiences, it saved me around 20% battery as well.

Ultimate Jar Power Tools
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252297&highlight=supercharger
The installation guide
Actually, the installation procedure isn't that hard but I just don't understand why they can write/explain it in 10 pages length with some crazy English and made me sat in front of monitor for an hour to read all stuffs.
1. I use adb shell(via windows7 command prompt)
2. Type adb shell and then sh /sdcard/supercharger/V6* <-- just put the script in /sdcard/supercharger
3. Pretty much it will go through the process itself in command prompt but just ask you to select some settings(with description so don't worry)
4. At the end, it will ask you to install Ultimate Jar Power Tools manually before continue.
5. The file after download appear to be Ultimatic_Jar_Patcher_Tools_RC6_ALL_DEX_Windows.exe.zip and I rename it to U.exe by myself in command prompt and double click it to run it in windows. Remember to put ALL_ROMS_Ultimate_Jar_Power_Tools-Smali_Patcher_RC9.sh in the same folder/directory.
6. The U.exe will auto-launch a command prompt out in your windows and start to pull the services.jar off your phone and patch it and push it back to your phone and phone will auto-reboot. That's it.
7. Now, you can go back V6 script to continue the setup. Type adb shell and then sh /sdcard/supercharger/V6* again, this time it will skip the installation menu but give you a config menu instead. You can change or enable/disable all settings here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18703418&postcount=5021
1. If you have some dated library in phone, you can update them with SuperCharger_Starter_Kit_RC12.zip. Extract it into your sdcard, use Smanager(script manager on play store) to run StartMeUp.sh, remember to click on the root(su icon) before run.
2. If your kernel or rom either one doesn't support init.d(script auto-run during boot). If you have this problem, your supercharge option menu will tell you at 50% level probably, not 100%. You will need to use smanager to click the /data/99supercharger.sh as run on boot and remember to click on the root(su icon) too. Click save and exit and reboot.
This is all the steps in short, I think my guide actually is the best....hehe

Which do you also suggest to freeze? I freezed only recently opened which I don't want to be running. Not used any from the "show more apps" thing. (talking about paid version now) Btw thank you for your detailed instruction about the scripts, I'll get to it one day when I feel my phone gets laggy.
One more thing, any battery tips? Dunno if it's just my feeling but today it drained a lot more than yesterday with no big difference in usage I guess.

Some process/app like to come out in background sliently without tell you or ask your permission. You'll need to use SystemPanel Lite to keep checking periodly to find out which is bad, or you can use "show more apps" to freeze all of them. Just make sure don't freeze chat apps(Hangout, Whatsapp, Skype) and some important process/app like HTC connect to PC(USB Mass Storage mode), Bluetooth service, Setcpu, MyTask(or else no one could ring you maybe), Message(SMS).
Try to wipe the cache and d-cache partition and sometimes One V battery percentage/report isn't that accurate. Or try uninstall greenify if it conflicts with your rom?
Well, crossbreeder and supercharge they are free script and easy installation in mind. In my opinion, no reason not to give them a shoot. No lagging and fast, remember there is a big different. Supercharge I believe it's not useful anymore for new phones got 1GB+ ram but to the 384/512MB/768MB is still helpful. Crossbreeder got reporting good on even all new smartphones with S4 Dual/Quad CPU.

So basicly flashing Crossbreeder from this post will improve my battery life right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113150
I also wanted to ask if this really is wroth goin for it? My battery drops by 2-4% by night, but I guess the trick here is that it improves the active battery usage right?

If you really want to find out which is battery drain part, you will need BetterBatteryStats.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw&hl
And Battery Monitor Widget(check with statistics since unplug)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/gyw6uq
CrossBreeder will only helpful for UI. Only 5.21.13 is release ver thats why the developer keeps it, don't try 7.21.13 all recent build are beta, buggy and battery drain. I don't know why the developer didn't keep the 5.21.13 uninstaller but luckily I still have it in my HD so in case you meet any problem, you can uninstall it.

For the 5.21.13, you will need to change the write_wakeup_threshold to 16 and reboot via root browser or root explorer.

Thank you for your time. I am installing the xda-dev link. I think the most draining part is the screen but we shall see after this apps gets onto my board. Whenever I will need this uninstaller for version 5.21.13 I'll contact you, thank you for your time and engagement. Learned a lot of new stuff today Cheers!

This is the 5.21.13 uninstaller link.
I would like to introduce one more stuff in this thread. Though Supercharged V6 is great but used more battery and too complicated for beginner.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36794328#post36794328
That developer also has a small Kernel tweaking script with a bit memory management called KiskAssKerneler, it doesn't drain battery but works good, my system is also faster and memory management better alone with this script. For whose who want improvement but thought supercharge v6 is too complex, try this out.
EDIT: KickAss actually also used more battery but just might not be as much as V6. I would prefer to stick with V6 for more true performance.
I find that installing titanium backup and setting a schedule to clear system cache then reboot helps a ton with making it faster. I usually set this for 5-6 am in the morning when im asleep but you can change it to whatever time you want. I also set it to run everyday rather than every other day. I also recommend crossbreader, it helps a bunch!
To deal with lag I flashed Crossbreeder, OC'ed to 1.4GHz set zRam to 10%, set KSM, enabled purge assets, enabled 16-bit transparency, set SIO as I/O scheduler and Lionheart as CPU governor. I still get lag while multitasking but now is a good everyday phone.
Its gonna help a bit as there is no huge amount of data required to read over and over again. Not worth deleting music. Slightly noticable effect.

[D855-16GB] Apps killed too often

Hi,
I own a D855-16GB (the one with 2GB of RAM). I've tried stock ROM and Fulmics (1~5) and the phone keeps killing background apps, being something very annoying.
It was suggested in another post here (for KitKat) to change the mOomMinFree values. I've tried with all sorts of values, but when I get more multitasking, I also get more lag.
Do any of you have this issue (maybe my phone is faulty!?), or has found some values which offer a reasonable scenario for multitasking and lag?
Thank you.
This were the ones I was using:
Code:
ro.sys.fw.mOomMinFree1=20000
ro.sys.fw.mOomMinFree2=25000
ro.sys.fw.mOomMinFree3=27500
ro.sys.fw.mOomMinFree4=32500
ro.sys.fw.mOomMinFree5=62500
ro.sys.fw.mOomMinFree6=75000
Until I noticed the phone was quite laggy, and I doubled them. After a while it also got slow.
I'm happy with these values on fulmics 5:
61440
76800
87796
99512
138304
172880

Work absolutely fine with these values. Recommended

Hi, thanks for your responses.
I tried your values, but the system still killed the apps too aggressively for my taste.
I asked this same question in reddit, and I was suggested this:
Download the "kernel adiutor" app, open the low memory killer setting from the side menu and use this settings : foreground apps 12 mb, visible apps 15mb, secondary 15mb, hidden 24mb, content 30mb, empty apps 40mb. Dont forget to turn on "apply on boot". This setting isnt saved to the build.prop, I should've know that, sorry.

Although I can notice a little lag, this is (by far) more suited to my needs. I repost this here in case it is useful to someone else.
My only concern is whether I could avoid using kernel adiutor and hardcode these values in build.prop.
Anyway, thank you for your comments!
