German kindle bricked - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I´m from Germany. I´m 43 years old. Sry for my bad english but i do my best :silly: Schoolsenglish is a long time ago...
So. I tried to install a new rom on my kF (10.2.4) but something went wrong. TWRP is installed. The process failed and i tried to rebuiled the old system with the backup from TWRP. But the process stoped at a static logo.(KF was charging while doing) Restart with long pressing the button failed.
I cant connect the kindle with my pc, no beep while connecting with pc Nothing in the devicemanager.
I tried to update the adb drivers but that didnt work. I tried to install the KFU 0.96 but there was an error. something about the language. (maybe because my pc is german??).
Can someone help me?
Greetings from Germany
Andy

First, don't use KFU for your device.
Second, read this...

You seem to have better understanding of the English language than many native English speakers around here so you shouldn't have much trouble with it.

is it bricked ?

i tried to do a beasty wm6 rom update, everything went well, and at the end of the procedure, it ask me to "press 0 to restaure factory setting" for rebooting, i press 0 and then....nothing. Impossible to start the htc, i can only access bootloader mode, but ain't no more recognize by the pc, i tried to plug it to AC power as i thought of a battery prob, and still nothing, no start, and no led telling me that it's recharging...
i ve done some search on the forum, but can't see something similar to this.
anyhelp welcome

Hi,
did you try to downgrade it to WM5? I also had problems with WM6 and after a downgrade to WM5 it worked again.
Cheers
Michael
sorry wrong thread.
well now when i connect it to my pc it says unknown device, so i dunno how to reflash to wm5
im on vista 64, and when i try to install the 64 driver it gave me on error about a corrupted driver...
Hi
I have the same problem, cannot recognize the usb port.
Anyone has an idea??
try changing your cable and if possible try using a xp machine. i have heard of people having problems when flashing with vista (i did it and no problems)
If after you change the cable, and use a differente computer the universal when you put it in bootloader mode and the word SERIAL does not change to USB i would say its pretty much bricked but if you only flashed your device i would say it is still possible to bring it back from death.
try changing your cable (specially if its the one you usually use) im almost sure thats your problem.
also make sure you dont have the sd card or the sim in it that seems to help too.
best regards and best of luck
Erik

Thats your problem! Vista is very shaky at best with flashing via USB on HTC devices.
Reflash to WM5 using the SDCard method.

[SOLVED] Stuck on Kindle Fire screen... (and tried EVERYTHING)

1) Yes I checked search results.
2) Yes I've googled.
3) Yes I've tried the Kindle Fire Utility, the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356257... links options.
With that being said, here's my issue;
Got a KF a couple days ago...
Yesterday, followed some online instructions to put GO Launcher EX on there to replace the carousel deal.
Followed instructions to the T.
Restarted. Got to "Choose your OS" screen (or whatever it precisely says...)
Picked GO... then it froze.
Now, when it restarts (yes, its the 30 second hard restart), it gets stuck on the Kindle Fire splash screen.
I have tried the above utilities.
I have hard restarted.
I have fully charged and ran the battery dry and tried again.
When I use the utilities, the problem is, my PC will not recognize the Kindle (it see's it as a removable storage device, but it doesn't click over to 'Kindle', and thus the utilities can't interact with the device itself, I suppose).
I've tried different USB ports and connecters (I have 2 regular kindles in the house, too). But I know all the peripherals work through cross-testing.
Essentially, what else can I do? (I got it from WalMart, and they're currently out of stock, so I can't return it till next week, but I'd like it fixed before then if possible)
I've tried several different methods from these forums too, but I *always* hit the same snag... whenever any utility is 'waiting for device', it simply will not find it, because the PC doesn't see it properly. It sees *something* (removable storage) but not as a kindle, and thus won't allow the utilities to interface with it.
Are there any physical things I can do to hard reset it without destroying any warrantys?
Any help appreciated!
there is no need to return it
from what you say i think you have a bad launcher on it and the kf tries to start it but can't
first i need to know if you have fff (custom bootloader - yellow triangle) on it ?
then do you have a recovery (twrp) on it ?
what os/bit of computer ?
In kindle utility go to bootmodes and enter normal (4000). Just had that problem last night.
awidawad - I've tried that. It stays on 'waiting for device' forever. Please explain step by step what you did? At which point did you power on the KF, when did you run KFU, etc, etc.
b63 - I hope your right!
no - I do not have the yellow triangle.
no - I do not have TWRP on it, i have tried, but cannot get anything onto the kindle.
my PC is window7, 64bit

Do you have all the kf drivers installed on your computer? I know that when I unbricked mine I had all the drivers installed but I had to reinstall them for some reason. If you do not have them I can post them later on tonight when I'm at home. However, I have TWRP installed on mine, and Cyanogenmod 7.2, so hopefully yours is able to connect to your computer.

In order to remove the bad launcher, you need to have your device connected to your computer to remove it using adb.
ok so b63 helped me out big time here....
about 2 hours ago we got on a teamviewer session (download this if you want these guys to help you with serious issues!)
took me a minute to figure out how to allow him/her proper access to my screen
anyway
i don't understand the technical stuff
but
what i had done wrong is that i didnt root the KF before trying to install the GO... software (i think)
b63 had a heck of a time trying to discern the problem with me being about as useful as a dead fish, but get there he/she did
after much fanangaling, b63 managed to install the TWRP and ADP on my KF, allowing it to fastboot, and basically allowing it to be read by my PC, and so fixed.
im sure it would have taken b63 all of 5 minutes in real time, but using the quirky teamview and my slow net speed didn't help
still, thanks VERY MUCH to b63 for fixing the **** out of my KF, and being very helpful and patient all along!
thanks
Just wanted to drop b63 a note here that I "thanks"ed their post above - not necessarily for the post but for going above and beyond. The people on these forums are (for the most part) really great. (Too bad there have to be a few who are demanding of the developers to get this feature or that fix done faster without taking into account that the devs do this all in their free time.)
YES, search finally led me here!
Euryon, I have the exact same thing happening with my KF right now.
Do you remember any specifics of how b63 carried out the steps you listed?
b63, any chance you could help me with mine? My issue is identical with Euryon's down to the letter.
Same Problem
Could someone please help me i have the same problem
same problem here! please can someone give a step by step? My fire is unrooted and I did nothing to it except try to install the go launcher and after I selected it as the default launcher it got stuck at the kindke fire logo.
I tried the Kindle unbricking utility but it cannot find the device even after I installed the adb composite interface
also, my fire is not showing up as a kindle - it is showing up as an android device.

thanks for replying, and I have no clue how to do that. I'll search and get back .
---------- Post added at 10:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:57 AM ----------
okay, I already did that by editing the android sdk(as a prerequisite to rooting, which I planned to do eventually) - so when I connect my fire it first shows up as a kindle, and after updating the software through windows and installing drivers through KFU, it comes up as an android device and the interface is adb composite. Now if I try to install TWRP through KFU it keeps switching between adb composite interface and plain adb. And both KFU and KUFU keep waiting but are unable to find my device.
also, my fire alternately shows up as a usb composite device and an android device. PLEASE help
okay I solved it with KFU (finally!) although I have no clue how I did it as I didn'tdo anything I hadn't tried earlier so, managed to install TWRP and then wiped everything and finally my fire could be read - then I deleted go launcher and now my fire is back from the grave
A big thank you to all the helpful posts at this forum - u guys are the best
Same issue
Tried rooting my KF, but couldn't change permissions and thus could not install android market. Superuser didn't do anything other than show me a log folder that had no logs. Tried to change permissions on /system and /apps with one of the file management apps on amazon and it said the device *wasn't* rooted, despite GO launcher and android interface.
Did a factory wipe to try to reroot or fully(?) root the KF, and that's when it all went wrong. Got stuck on boot loop, but KFU helped me break out of that. Now it's stuck on the Kindle Fire splash screen with no animation. I read somewhere that this was the fastboot getting "stuck."
At any rate, i have TWRP 2.0 installed and can mount and unmount the device in its interface, but it is only recognized as ADB android device, or when mounted via TWRP, USB composite device. As such, ADB commands only work occasionally - all other times it simply says <waiting for device>.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit, and 6.3 on the KF. All restarts on the KF are hard restarts, except occasionally cmd lets me fastboot reboot.
I have spent the past 2 days trying everything I have found online (2 KF unbrick applets, 15+ tabbed browsers with different threads) to no avail. I am finally posting, pleading for assistance.
Thanks in advance for any (helpful) replies. Real thanks clicking afterwards.
edit: when rerunning KFU, i kept getting the message that many execs failed because "/system/bin/sh" directory does not exist.
I don't know if that helps narrow down what might be happening, but I saw that coming up a lot in the cmd prompt.

with an emphasis on post #2. You need to know what mode your device is in by looking at the device manager and make sure your drivers are loading correctly for that mode. If you can get to TWRP, you can mount your USB mass storage device, copy a new zip file of either the stock software or a custom ROM and flash it.
Thank you. I will be trying this shortly.
fully bricked
I followed the guide and got to a point where the Kindle Fire animation was playing. It loaded up to the unlock screen and then automatically shut itself down - would not stay on when either connected or disconnected. Tried installing a ROM but still shut down. Started the recovery and hit factory reset, still auto shutdown. Tried clearing a partition as described in the tutorial and now it's fully bricked. Will not turn on when connected to computer, to outlet, to another cable.
Thanks for trying to help.

sorry first one still can't open.
I know once i reboot my kf i have to either long press or press twice to get my switch into orange colour to get into recovery mode.
But since mine is not the fire triangle anymore (its an android doll on top of the 'kindle fire' logo.i doesn't know why mine is this version but i've read alot with this also ). i couldn't access recovery through the aforementioned method anymore.i tried to ask many people even natmile on facebook and i've got no confirmation from them until now.
i did do some readings including the one for the beginners and i do search for my problem on why i can't access to my recovery. But i just can't find an answer.really need your help.

The "yellow triangle" logo is the FireFireFire bootloader (version 1.2). The "kindle fire" logo with android is also the FireFireFire bootloader (version 1.3). Recovery selection for both versions is the same, only the time span given for you to make the selection has been reduced in v1.3. My guess is that you are not pressing the power button at the right time to make the selection.
This is the thread for FFF v1.3...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1541043
In the first post, it gives you directions on how to make the recovery selection...
Recovery Selection - As the Kindle Fire boots up, the power button LED will change from bright green to a dim green. Once it changes to a dim green, press the power button again and release (repeat a few times to be sure). The LED will then change to an orange color indicating recovery selection and boot into recovery.
Personally, I keep my fingernail on the button and as soon as the reflection goes dim, I press/release several times. If you want to be absolutely sure, keep pressing/releasing until the LED goes orange. This always works for me without fail. If the LED goes orange and it doesn't get to recovery, something is wrong with your recovery.
As far as gedeROM goes, look in the notification area and make sure it says "Android debugging enabled" when you have it hooked up to your computer. If you still can't send it adb commands, then it's likely a device driver issue. Read the second post of the first link soupmagnet gave you.

That is a very important piece of information that would have been useful from the beginning. There is no reason for the new version of FireFireFire (Kindle fire logo w/android) to work any differently from the old one (yellow triangle) in regards to entering recovery.
Try reinstalling FireFireFire to see if that fixes the problem.

Try fastboot mode in KFU. Option 1, when it show <waiting for device> then connect the KF, hold down the power button untill it shut down, and hold button again to turn it on.
If you can somehow get to fastboot, try flash TWRP again.
Sine you can get in to FFF, I strongly believe that it's still alive.

I think you need to go in to device manager and uninstall the drivers and reinstall the drivers . Try it out
i tried using kfu and use fastboot.but can't detect.
since gedeROM design to change our kf into galaxy tab,can i manually change and allows the pc to detect my kf as a kindle fire? Then probably i would have access to kfu.
btw i tried pressing the button but still couldn't access twrp through device.
You're in a pretty tricky spot. Apparently, the way GedeROM was set up, it is causing problems with adb connecting. But it all boils down to a driver issue. You need to somehow get into twrp to flash a different rom and see if it is the rom causing your original problem. But without access to recovery or USB debugging, I can't think of anything that will help you.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling your device drivers until you can get a connection long enough to change your bootmode to 5001 in order to get back into recovery.
You need to be able to get a solid connection with adb and fastboot to further troubleshoot your problem and it looks like you can't do that with the rom you're using.

I have the same problem, loaded GedeROM got in fatboot, and now I am stuck.
okay.somehow i've managed to get USB mass storage working. But KFU still shows offline.
But then i found out if i ask the kfu to help me boot to recovery it may still works. But can i do this and get to recovery and flash back my modaco?
Or should i manually flash my twrp again?
Flash MoDaCo to see if that helps. If not, reflash twrp. If not still, reflash firefirefire.
very nervous...i flash twrp again and i get to boot into recovery.omg....now im restoring into my modaco backup...hope it works.
Btw my kfu status is now 'online'
thanks so much soupmagnet!
But what if my kf still can't access twrp, should i do everything from the start manually?

ADB Not Working After GedeROM
I've been using the 28-04-2012 GedeROM all weekend, and it works fine, but I still haven't been able to get ADB working. I checked Android Debugging under Developer Options. On my PC, the KF only shows up in my Device Manager as a Disk Drive with the designation "Am", not as an ADB device, and the ADB Devices command doesn't show any devices attached. My computer thinks its an empty disk drive (no data). I have a regular Windows x86 PC. I try and try but I can't re-install any other driver to get the PC to recognize it.
Funny thing-- I tried recovering my stock system and data from TWRP (after factory wiping GedeROM), and it didn't work, I just get a dim lit screen on reboot. GedeROM re-installed ok, so I'm not too upset, just wondering why I can't go back.
I searched around on the lists but didn't see any idea that worked. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks- Roger

You need to reinstall the drivers. Long explanation at this link...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625356
ADB on GedeROM
Thanks for the advice Kinfauns, I'll read your article and try to reinstall the drivers again tonight. I did try over the weekend, checked the drivers, made sure they didn't change somehow, but the system wouldn't accept the drivers-- either "not better than what is already installed", or "can't find any drivers". My PC seems to recognize the KF as a disk drive, not as an ADB or Android device, so it's like the PC isn't even looking for my driver to be a suitable driver for the "Am" disk drive.
Thanks for your help!

Stuck on boot logo

Hello,
First of all sorry for my English, I had a Kindle fire since few days. I try to root it to put ICS on it. That's the only one reason for what I bought it .
I tryed to follow this video ( ww w. youtube. com/watch?v=mwMHIkX20YI ) but I was stuck on the kindle fire boot screen for many minutes after the downloading step on the step number 2. The download was completed but the window always say " waiting for device ". After a while I unpluged it and now I'm stuck on the boot screen and KFU say " offline " for the status.
Right now I'm trying to drain down the battery but can you give me a solution for my problem .
Thanks.
Draining your battery is one of the worst things you can do a this point.
Read this
It will give you some insight as to what's going on.
Thanks for your fast response, I already read all of this topic yeasterday before starting the rooting. I think that I must use ABD to type command line to change my boot mode to a normal boot mode but I really don't know how to do this and I can't find a topic about that.
Sorry for my stupid question but I'm little confusing about all of this.

It's much more likely that you will have to use fastboot to change bootmodes. The 3rd post in the thread soupmagnet referred you to will have both the adb and fastboot commands to change bootmodes.
In fact I really don't understand where I need to put the command line .
And wich one put .
Shift + right click your KFU "tools" folder and select "Open Command Window Here"
[Edit:] You might need to make sure your drivers are in order as well...

I think all the ****ing problem come because the drivers are not installed well.
Sometimes my windows recognize the kindle as " unknown " peripheric and sometimes it didn't recognize it yet.
I try to re install the drivers but it just take half a second to re install and it's seem that's a fake installation.
The problem is that I have the kindle as " unkonw " in device manager but when I try to install the driver with the explication in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20421225&postcount=222 , I didn't find the android driver...
Up .
Up as in you got it fixed?

It's really complicated for me to install Linux because I already have bootcamp with Windows on my MacBook, I think I will go to Best Buy and ask for another Kindle Fire because this one don't want start up...
WTF?! You have a Mac? Why are you even messing with Windows in the first place? Get breakdroid and fix it easily.
BreakDroid doesn't work at all it always be on offline status, I have a MacBook pro with Lion and Windows 8.
If there is a solution with BreakDroid I can't find it, that's starting drive me crazy .
Update : I got the error " device not found " what ever I try on BreakDroid.
Update 2 : Wao I just try with now hope the kindlewater in the DMG and I'm now on the TWRP. I don't now whats happened but...
Great...will it let you mount your sdcard?
I have rooted my Kindle, after I have boot with normal mode, put the zip on sd card and flash it with success .
Thanks .

Not only does one have to try and figure out the root of the problem, but one also has to try and disseminate what is actually happening from what is perceived to be happening by the person who needs the help. It only adds to the confusion when that person jumps into another thread in the middle of someone else's problem.
If you have a problem, and you've searched the forums as best as you can, and you've read all the guides available, yet you still can't find an answer to your problem, start a new thread. In that thread, describe what you understand and what you don't understand about your problem, how your problem started, what steps you have taken to try and solve your problem along with any errors you received (exactly as you received them), and any additional problems that arose as a result. Be sure to include important information like everything the device does from the moment you press the power button to turn it on. Also, describe in detail, the boot logo and recovery screens, specifically their overall appearance (color is key).

kindle fire stuck
I unbrick my kindle fire then it suddenly shows this mssage :
Your Kindle has detected a problem and must clear app storage. The recovery process will erase some applications and data from your device. Apps from the appstore are stored in the cloud and can be reinstalled later.
This will reset your kindle to its original factory settings. you will need to re-register your kindle prior to downloading items from your Amazon account.
Please press power button to proceed.'

[Q] Oh dear - Help needed!

Hello everyone,
Yesterday I accidently dropped my phone, and now the volume-down button has stopped working/is spoilt.
Today I decided to flash a newer version of my current ROM, ok cool. So I did it, wiped cashe & data & everything, then I tried to start my DHD and it got blackscreen after the HTC LOGO.
So now I want to recover my old rom (yes I did make a backup);
but I don't get my DHD into recovery.
I know there's a method with CMD/prompt to cable it with DHD and then put some commands and it will boot into recovery.
Question: which command(s) do I have to fill in, in order to get my DHD into recovery modus.
Best regards,
Niels NL

I have read everything,
the file is just not a driver.
I have followed serval guides, including the one from google, they say: "Click Browse and locate the USB driver folder. (The Google USB Driver is located in <sdk>\extras\google\usb_driver\.)"
But the file is not a valid setup for me. im so freaking desperated.
Windows? Reinstall the htc sync drivers. Maybe that will help.
Edit: did you read post #7?
By the way, you would need a working volume button if all else fails.

i just finally found a .EXE file which installs the right driver... thank god.
