just bought an LG Optimus V (Virgin Mobile) off ebay with clean esn
the phone is still going to have the last persons virgin mobile info in that phone correct?
is it possible for me to transfer that info to my S3 and then i buy a virgin mobile plan (i like the $35 one) and then go ahead and activate the phone like that?
i dont want to activate the the Optimus V "first" then transfer that info to my S3 because say i decide to sell the S3 later on.
i dont want the next person to have to use QPST or DFS.
i just want them to be able to buy their plan and activate the phone like it was an original virgin mobile branded phone.
is that possible
thanks

if you can help it would be great
You will need to activate the Optimus v on a VM account which will get it reprogrammed with your account info. From there you should be able to follow guides to transfer the S3 to take over the optimus's account info. At that point you can not ever power the Optimus back on or it will flag your VM account and probably put a suspend on the account.
If you want to resell the S3 after the fact for use on any carrier I think it would require some work to get it setup for another account. Because the S3 came from sprint it will never just "auto program" to a VM account, it will need to be manually reprogrammed.

i know i can activate the VM phone and then transfer that over to the S3
what i want to do is make it so if i do sell it the next person will be able to have a flawless transistion to VM just like if it was a "real" VM phone.
i mean after all VM will accept Sprint phones wont they (if they have a good esn)?
ok so if i flash an AOSP rom like CM and then try to activate the S3 with the info i get from VM during phone activation?
i would of course do a "1x" transfer of all the carrier settings but after that the next user would just have to call VM with that info and the phone should be able to easily activate shouldnt it?
i should not have to activate the original VM phone "first" and then take that info and use it with the S3 should i?
i dont like that and if i have to do it that way please explain why,
thanks

would really like a good guide or some good info on what would have to be "set" with qpst or dfs so if i did sell the phone in the future as a Sprint S3 flashed to VM that the buyer would be able to enter the imei number in the VM website and continue to activate just like a normal VM phone.
i wouldnt think this should be to big a problem would it?

Virgin Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 no wifi hotspot
Hello! Just activated a new SG S3 this week with V MOBILE and I am loving my device except that apparently V Mobile has disabled or buried the hot spot feature. It is running 4.1.2 and I have tried and tried and no sign of it. It appears they are trying to sell their external wifi hotspot device which would get terribly expensive. My plan is their $45/mo unlimited (2.5 gb) data and text 3G& 4G Lte on Sprint's backbone) and it makes me crazy that I can't share my data plan with my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. Ridiculous they want to charge extra for data I am already paying for.
So my question is whether anyone out there has found a way to circumvent Virgin Mobile's tampering. I have tried several apps for tethering with zero success. Wondering if using bluetooth is the only way? Wouldn't that be slow?
Obviously I am not a programmer and it sounds scary to root my device. Would hate for it to become a paperweight. Ugh. Could there be some app I could run off an sd card or add on to make this work? I used to be able to do this with my old T Mobile unlimited account on my old Samsung galaxy running 2.3
Your help and support would be great and I can try to make it work or else return the device to swap with something else.
Thanks!

I used to have the international version of the GSII, and I was able to give the IMEI to AT&T, and tell them that it was a dumb phone. This allowed me to use the unlimited $15 data plan.
My understanding is that this is because they don't have the IMEI in their system since it's an international phone. If I were to buy the Galaxy Nexus from Google, would I be able to do the same thing? Or would I have to import one from Europe/Asia? Not sure how the IMEI thing works
Guess I'll try it anyway
Did it work? Anyone know? Looking to do the same thing. Currently have a nexus one on the dumbphone plan, looking to go to a galaxy nexus.

If you already have the plan, go ahead and try it.
I would like to know if this worked as well. I have a photon which is an American phone but is also a world phone and by default is locked to international GSM. Im about to use the domestic hack for the radio to use this as a go phone. Att shouldn't have the imei in their system because its not supposed to work for att lol.

The general consensus is that only the international gnex's can use the unlimited att data plan. Some how att was able to recognize some gnex's bought from the play store (USA) and flag them as smartphones. There is another thread floating around either here or in the sgs3 forum that showed this.

What's this I keep hearing about people buying phones from the play store??? I've seen this all over. Also would this even apply to the photon? The photon is an American phone that can run on GSM but is locked out of domestic and will most likely never get unlocked for domestic GSM use. So would att log the imei as a smartphone?
Edit: we can use a hybrid radio made custom by a dev to allow domestic GSM but the radio used is from a Japanese phone

Is there a way to prevent ATT from knowing that I am using an S3 on their network?
Currently, I am using an HTC Vision and their system can't determine what phone it is because this is not a phone they offer.
But because they do offer the S3, I'm concerned it will show up in their system as an S3 and they will force me to change my data plan.
Thanks.
If it's the t-mobile s3 ..I don't think it will but if it's atts s3...then yes...they'll know.

But what about the one from expansys with no contract? Or another site? They appear unbranded.
Is there some software I can use to hide it?
ATT picks up on IMEI's, Serial Numbers and SKU numbers. If the phone you have is unlocked, unbranded or imported they will not register it because those numbers are not in their system. I had done that same thing away back in the day with an international HTC Topaz, which later ATT ended up offering (I dont remember what they ended up calling it). The guy in the store gave me an unlimited dummy phone internet plan saying that because this phone did not come from ATT and was not originally registered to them they wouldnt know what type of phone it was. Now I cant swear by this as it was years ago but it would make sense.
I just ordered my phone contract-free from Amazon Wireless. It's a phone that is set to work on the ATT network. I just hope they don't force me to switch data plans.
I just wonder if there is something I can do to change the IMEI - but if it was easy to do, I suppose that cell phone thieves would be having a field day. I just wonder if I can switch it over, maybe hardware-wise, from my HTC Vision or something.

Seems like loading up CM 9/10 will change your IMEI.
Really? That seems... odd.
How does it know it's not being changed to an already-in-use IMEI number?

if it's the international version, then they won't know. there's a HUGE thread dedicated to this in the "general" forum of the international SGS3 (not the US ones). read that.

it's from AT&T whether or not it's on contract. they will know what phone it is and they will charge you the proper data plan for it. you can't get around it.

Guys ... what are you talking about??? I came from Germany still using my HTC One S as well as my iPhone 4. Ok, they registered the IMEI of my HTC One S. But not the one from my iPhone. And both worked w/o any problem. Even in my iPad2 GSM/Wifi. Am I just a lucky guy?

IPhone only obviously....
Unlock it.co.nz
Just visit this site with browser and it will set up a custom apn profile....no more data plan!
Simply delete the profile in settings if/when you want to use at&t data again!
Its like using an int. Phone afterwards....that's why I think changing the apn on the S III will work as well. Thats why the carriers lock the APN settings by default in stock roms.

I've seen several people say theirs got changed
Long time ago I used to buy Nokia Nxx phones on eBay and just get dumb phone data plan, which was unlimited, and they never knew what exact phone I had. Last one was N95 Mini, and AT&T had their phones and data plans categorized into smart and dumb back then.
That was even after we got notes on the bill saying that if you have X phone, like and iPhone, and didn't have smart phone data plan, they would add it automatically. I got away with it, but on my account it would just show a generic unknown phone
Hi guys, need some help.
If I switch carrier then phone automatically get bad Sprint ESN, right? If so, thats ok, because I dont want to use Sprint.
I've got Sprint L710 but I never used CDMA before, so little bit confused with how to get rid of that Sprint and make it work with Boost even w/o 4g.. perhaps 2g or 3g if possible. Or Virgin, doesn't really matter, the most important is prepaid plan w/o contract.
I'll make a root and even if then I install custom ROM then still will be using Sprint? Or after flashing custom ROM I can go to Boost and ask them to flash their codes?
Nobody else will help me, I hope for your understanding.
As far as I know. You won't get bad esn as long as you don't have any pending balances pending.
And if you pay the early termination fee.
But I'm not sure. As far as the s3 on another net work then it would have to be flashed with whatever company your gonna use it with.
But your probably better off just selling it on craugslist or eBay and buying an unlocked international version.

When I switched from ATT contract to TMobile prepaid I just unlocked phone, pulled out ATT sim card and go forward with TMobile. I didnt make any notifications to ATT, TMobile just transferred my number in few secs.
I mean how could I make same on CDMA? Could by example Cricket take my phone to their network? Is it possible to delete all related to Sprint from my phone, make it clean as from factory? And then come to Cricket or another CDMA carrier? In that case if I terminate Sprint contract without any notification I think ESN would be bad.

Well if your gonna flash the phone to another carrier like cricket. Then bad esn or clean esn don't matter. Just go into a cricket store and tell them you need to flash your phone and they'll put other on their network.

And am I be able to get at least their Cricket's 3G?
Or for that I need to go through special procedure with donors?

they should have a cricket store where they flash phones. Idk how the procedure is done, or how it affects the phones. But there might be something screwy with MMS, but you can always ask before you do it. and there might be a fix for that sort of stuff here at XDA
Cricket said that they flash only their phones and I cant keep my existing.
BTW finally we've switched it to Verizon prepaid

well if your S3 is just a brick there you can always sell it.
If the price is low enough i can buy it from you, or also ebay

I've gotten mine, always used incognito, from craigslist. Doesn't matter what condition the phone is in as long as it powers up and can connect the usb port. I've done it with the Evo and the E3D. I want to try one of the Galaxy phones next but haven't gotten my hands on one. Good luck.
I've done two now with the incognito and their both working fine.
Technically you could use any 3g phone, it just may be harder to get all the info you need since most of the directions are for those 2...

Thanks guys, so I won't matter if the incognito has been used as a donor before?? does it has to be an incognito from Boost or any other carries who might have sold it.:good:
It has to be from boost. And it can ONLY be used as a donor once at a time.
Meaning, say a buddy uses it to flash his evo. If he's still using it, you can't.
So if your buying one, make sure its a clean esn and activatible.

Just change the phone number on the Incognito it will assign new HA/AAA information.

But that doesn't matter. When you clone the info to a new phone, its always going to use the same unique numbers. The HA/AAA are only the passwords needed to access the information.
The esn/meid are unique and only 1 phone has those numbers. Its like a network mac address.
So no, you still can only use a phone once at a time. Otherwise, I could sell just the numbers off my phone all day long.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
I'm not talking about multiple people using the same information.
I'm talking about generating new HA/AAA information so at least he would know there's no way for some else to have it like the guy he bought it from.
By activating the phone you know if its in use or not.
He wouldn't be able to even activate the phone if someone is even using the MEID or ESN.
Can't you just call boost with your evo's ESN and they'll put it on their network? No need for a donor if so.
Some people claim they have but their official policy is against it, most have said they've been denied and I haven't even tried.
They can tell what ESN is coming from where Boost and Sprint ESNs are not considered the same in their systems.

To my understanding after reading a few blogs is that you can't do that, it will seem doable because is basically the same network(Sprint) but aparently is not possible therefore the need to flash.
Update
Just to update there are some other phones that can be use see this.
I was able to get a brand new incognito from a Sprint Store in VA, I spoke to one of the managers and they're getting rid off all the old boost mobile phones, I got mine for less than $30 they can even go lower If you buy in bulk, I thought about buying them(they had about 20) and reselling them on CL but didn't do it(not enough cash).
Anyway I completed the flash and now I am using my 4G Evo with boost, I am down to $25/month, I got the Pay as you go plan $.50/day unlimited web + $0.20/minute call. Works great for me since I don't use the phone to make calls, mostly text and web. Running ICS ROM of course with no 4G, I was paying about $93/month with Sprint.
Hey guys I have a quick question,
I have a Sprint Note II that I want to activate on my line but I'm having a little issue. Back story: I acquired it because my sister failed to pay Sprint so they canceled her plan and she needed cash so she gave me her Note II in exchange for the money she needed since she no longer has Sprint. So the phone works fine, but they won't remove it from her account because she owes a balance of over $500. She's called in and even though the phone isn't financed through Sprint they won't release the SN/MEID from her account so needless to say, it cannot be added to my line. I'm wondering if there's a manner to get it off her account or change out the SN/MEID to make it usable? I've been running an HTC Evo Design for the last 2 years and really need to upgrade my phone but again, I gave my sister money so I no longer have the cash. I cannot for obvious reasons of her being my sister and requiring money tell her to give me back my money.
I originally thought they wouldn't remove it because when I called it wasn't her on the line. Even after being able to fully verify her account. I was speaking to the rep and he said that there is a manner but obviously couldn't tell me what it was so I'm turning to the trusty XDA forums.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
(even if it's not a program or something, a manner of speaking with them or getting them to take it off her account without having to pay the balance)
Thank you,
Tag
The only way it "could" have been done is if you were able to reactivate the account for a short duration then call in and Swap the phone out with an older device. It would free up the phone and you could let the acct go out again.

Are you on Sprint too?
Odds are you're hosed if so. They always permanently brick the MEID of devices on accounts that are cancelled due to lack of payment. You can flash the device to another carrier and use it however.

Hmmm, I might flash it and put it on TMobile then..... Wonder who'd accept it...
I have my bad esn flashed to cricket no problems. Anywhere you flash it you will lose 4g, but mine works flawlessly with cricket. I have far greater reception abd 3g speeds from my previous carrier, boost mobile (which is sprint).

You can't flash it to T-Mobile, they're GSM. You can only flash it to another compatible CDMA carrier. Ofcourse there are other, shall we say clandestine ways to get it on Sprint, but obviously taboo to discuss on here.
