Get rid of Sprint - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi guys, need some help.
If I switch carrier then phone automatically get bad Sprint ESN, right? If so, thats ok, because I dont want to use Sprint.
I've got Sprint L710 but I never used CDMA before, so little bit confused with how to get rid of that Sprint and make it work with Boost even w/o 4g.. perhaps 2g or 3g if possible. Or Virgin, doesn't really matter, the most important is prepaid plan w/o contract.
I'll make a root and even if then I install custom ROM then still will be using Sprint? Or after flashing custom ROM I can go to Boost and ask them to flash their codes?
Nobody else will help me, I hope for your understanding.

As far as I know. You won't get bad esn as long as you don't have any pending balances pending.
And if you pay the early termination fee.
But I'm not sure. As far as the s3 on another net work then it would have to be flashed with whatever company your gonna use it with.
But your probably better off just selling it on craugslist or eBay and buying an unlocked international version.

When I switched from ATT contract to TMobile prepaid I just unlocked phone, pulled out ATT sim card and go forward with TMobile. I didnt make any notifications to ATT, TMobile just transferred my number in few secs.
I mean how could I make same on CDMA? Could by example Cricket take my phone to their network? Is it possible to delete all related to Sprint from my phone, make it clean as from factory? And then come to Cricket or another CDMA carrier? In that case if I terminate Sprint contract without any notification I think ESN would be bad.

Well if your gonna flash the phone to another carrier like cricket. Then bad esn or clean esn don't matter. Just go into a cricket store and tell them you need to flash your phone and they'll put other on their network.

And am I be able to get at least their Cricket's 3G?
Or for that I need to go through special procedure with donors?

What? lol
they should have a cricket store where they flash phones. Idk how the procedure is done, or how it affects the phones. But there might be something screwy with MMS, but you can always ask before you do it. and there might be a fix for that sort of stuff here at XDA

Cricket said that they flash only their phones and I cant keep my existing.
BTW finally we've switched it to Verizon prepaid

weird, down here where I'm at, they flash any phone really.
well if your S3 is just a brick there you can always sell it.
If the price is low enough i can buy it from you, or also ebay

They said that in New York area they flash only Cricket phones.
But even good, cause because of I that I got Verizon.

Can a bad esn phone move to another carrier and be used normally?
What does bad esn mean
TX!!
No it wont transfer to another carrier, and it is caused from a phone bill not being paid, or a phone being lost or stolen and reported to the carrier. If you flash a phone to another carrier or use have it unlocked, then the phone will work on other networks, just not the network the esn was banned from, until the bill has been paid

Best answer i think, let me see if I understood!
You can unlock the phone, and then flash a ROM. And the NOT original carrier would work.
Is there something like that with IMEI/GSM?
I have been searching for a cheap note 2 n it seems that bad ESN phones are the cheapest....
So my question is If i buy a sprint bad ESN note 2 will it work in India with a CDMA connection... Will I have to unlock or flash it before using it...???
And if yes can anyone point me to the right thread or a tutorial...
Thanks in advance...!!

you would have to flash it. you will need your new carrier's prl and 3g connection port e.g. (123)[email protected] then just use qpst and configure, or find someone over there to do it for you
I would suggest you buy a World Phone with a bad ESN so that it has a GSM slot , even though it has a bad ESN you will be able to use it using a indian GSM sim card !
SO dont buy a Sprint/Verizon Phone with bad ESN ! Verizon's new phones with 4g capablity are GSM radios enabled so you can buy those
Hi guy,
please, let me know if I read right thing...
I can buy a phone with bad esn and use phone with normale sim card gsm ?
or I must unlock the phone buying code on line?
must I flash phone with another firmware ?
are these instruction valid for all verizon phone ?
Thank you so much
I sorry for my bad english and ignorance

You're better off just buying a phone with a good ESN, if you plan on using CDMA in the States. Otherwise, if you plan to use GSM then just get a new Nexus 4 or Galaxy S3 (they're cheap now.)
The reason bad ESN phones are cheaper is because people use them for parts.
Unless your phone is an international phone, it won't have a sim card in it. Verizon in the states runs on cdma.

Just to clarify this better, *MOST* US CDMA phones (Sprint, Verizon and many else) have SIM cards built-in and you can't swap. Besides, quite a few of them doesn't support AT&T / T-Mo's HSPA+ at all, so swapping another SIM (likely HSPA) usually makes no sense.
For example, in China here, the Epic 4G Touch from Sprint is modded to expose its SIM slots, making it possible to swap SIMs, but because E4GT isn't a "global phone", it lacks HSPA+ support and can only use CDMA SIMs (in China, that is, China Telecom).

Can i buy an S4 with a bad ESN from At&t and then unlock it (there are free and paid for solutions) and then use that same s4 on tmobile ?
The main question is within the USA do different networks share banned IMEI and ESN lists ?

No. You have to use a device that has the proper network type (GSM vs CDMA) & frequency range.
Plus, how are there any bad ESN S4's already? The damn thing is brand new.

Apparently no one HAS TAKEN A BAD ESN phone and successfully flashed to another ROM carrier...otherwise there would have been tons of comments by such a person on this thread by now. ;-/
I can add that anyone wanting to use the s4 active on TMobi (i537 or i9295) will not be satisfied because you can NOT use the TMobi wifi calling and you can not tether. You will also have to go through a process to add HSPA frequency in order to get a decent data and voice signal in most locations around the midwest. AND with the i9295 international... you will not be able to use LTE/4g data speed networks!
I'm selling my unlocked and rooted i537 right now for $175 because I want my TMobi wifi calling and tethering back. I did not find out about these issues until after I had already bought the phone. Anyone interested? hit me up....

Q for Sprint Techs

Ok.... Here's something I haven't seen before...
Bought an E4GT to use with KDDI Mobile... Clean ESN verified by Sprint. Asked KDDI to add, which they tried to add ESN to their system so that I could do hands-free activation; wasn't able to because it said fail when trying to add. Also gave MSL but no luck.
Any ideas out there? Are MVNO ESNs on a separate pool? And if so is it possible to get one reassigned from Sprint to the MVNO?
TIA

I think your going to have to flash the phone over to kddi first
Of kddi just added whatever cdma phones to their database it would hurt their business
Also I don't think sprint would let them
Just Google flashing sprint phone to kddi

Sprint is very against this, so you won't get any official help.
From what I've heard, you have to get a "donor ESN" from the carrier you're wanting to move to and flash that ESN into the device you're wanting to move.
That's the thing... From what I can tell the devices are stock Sprint. The user still uses the sprintpcs.com domain. So I'm not certain this is an identical case to Boost, Virgin or Cricket.

I'm trying to avoid that if possible. Hopefully they are able to add it as this seems to be the only holdup. And as this an actual offering by KDDI I don't see why it would not be okay... Whereas other MVNOs I believe don't carry the E4GT. (KDDI is currently out of stock and wanted $550 to upgrade her phone when available.)
Put it this way: Both Sprint and KDDI were willing to help so far including ESN verification. If they didn't approve I doubt they would have done this much, especially since I was up front about already having this E4GT on KDDI and just wanted to hook up another for the missus.

Well, until I figure out about the ESN I did find a way to get the phone on. There is a difference between my phone issued by them and this but only when trying to retrieve PRL or profile - and hopefully I'll figure that out. Will also get 4G working at some point.
In either case she's happy - she's got a better phone that ought to tide her over until the GS3 rolls out to us. Won't do much for us until November (at least what I was told by latest corp manager, is expected rollout for LTE in Chi-town)

HTC EVO on Straight Talk service?

So I'm trying to help a friend get the HTC evo on their straight talk plan. Ive looked at the boost mobile and other tutorials to get it on verizon. But hoping someone could help out. It doesn't need a sim card or anything. Any help would be much appreciated!
I thought Straight Talk was Walmart's service through AT&T, which would mean it's GSM and requires a SIM card....
Yea that's what I thought but I was told it was through Verizon also, and the phone my friend is currently using has no sim card in it. Ive never had that service so I don't know for sure tho. Maybe someone could provide more insight..?

Well...it may be roaming on part of Verizon, but I believe its T-Mobile.
I almost signed up with them at my local Walmart but talked myself out of it.
At mine it didn't sell, so that location discontinued it then came back, then stopped again. Last I saw it was back again. Lol
I'm about sure its a GSM based phone service. Best bet, call the local Walmart and see what phones their actually selling for it. That will tell you what it uses for sure.

Actually, there are services on eBay that will flash the Evo from Sprint to Straight Talk to utilize the Verizon network. If our phones had sim cards, we could just buy a ATT or T Mobile sim card from Straight Talk, change a few settings and be on our way. As it stands with Sprint's Evo, most flashing services require that you ship the phone off (check seller feedback and comments 1st!) while others will flash via remote log in on your computer. Verizon network for $45 per month... can't beat it. My rooted phone was shipped off and is being flashed now. I will try to update all once my phone has been returned (3g speeds, etc).
Edit: Got my phone back today. Paid ~ $79.00 with no need to buy a donor phone. Gentleman was very courteous and my phone was returned in excellent condition. I'm digging the Verizon service.

[Q] I Don't Want To Pay for a DATA PLAN!

So check this out.... I am an AT&T user and back when the HTC HD2 came out for T-Mobile I bought it from a friend when they signed up for a new contract. Got an unlock code from Ebay and have been using it for the past 2 years without having to have a data plan, never got added automatically to my plan like i have heard happen to others? And I'm wondering why? Is it possibly cuz its a T-Mobile phone? Or is it cuz I still have an old "Cingular" SIM card? I am curious about this because right now, Wally World has a special sale on the phone at $249, plus a $100 gift card, which will bring the phone down to $150 basically, so a pretty damn good deal for a phone just out on the market. And I'm plan on getting it this week, I was wondering if any of you would be able to tell me if at some point if i was able to get a T-Mobile version of the Samsung Note 2 if i could slip my SIM card into it and then be able to cancel my DATA plan, if i told them i went back to a Motorola Razr or something, which worked when i got my HD2? Or will AT&T be able to see that i have a smartphone? Is it the newer smaller SIM card, that will tell AT&T that I have a smartphone, or will the phone it self be what sends info to the servers or whatever that tells AT&T I have a smartphone? Or do you think this method of getting a T-Mobile phone and using an AT&T SIM card will work and I won't get stuck with a DATA plan? Everywhere I go has Wi-Fi so I have no need for the Data plan it will be going to waste.
The newer phones, including this one, use a micro-SIM.
I think it is because you have a phone that is not sold by AT&T that they can't tell what it is, so you would probably be forced to get a data plan if you get the AT&T Note II. I would think that regardless of the sim card you have it would still report your phone model to the network, but I really don't know anything about that, so hopefully others can chime in.
I have been using an unlocked Xperia Pro on AT&T and they don't seem to have a clue what it is or even that it is a smartphone, so I could probably do whatever I want with the data plan.
If you got the international version of the Note perhaps you would not have to have a data plan.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the IMEI? If it isn't listed in there network or something? Maybe I will be alright? I don't know... But back when I got the Tmobile HD2 I went from a Motorola Razr to the HD2 just fine and wasn't automatically enrolled into a data plan, like some others people on at&t were that got the same phone. I don't know how I wasn't, but I'm happy I wasn't and was hoping to find out how to avoid it again. Everywhere I go has Wi-Fi, I don't need to throw away, $15 to $30 extra a month when I'm not even going to use the Data network very often. I have been going just fine with my HD2 with no data plan, just using Wi-Fi.

Right, I know I'll have to get a new SIM card and that is what kinda worries me, I don't know anything about the SIM cards. I was just curious if my older "Cingular" SIM card is what was helping keep me stay under the radar of them not knowing I have a smartphone, or if its because, the HD2 phone I have is from Tmobile and not in their system, so it can't recognize it? I went from a Razr to the HD2 and it still shows as a Razr in my account. An when I get the Note 2 phone, hopefully from Tmobile sometime, I was hoping I can still get away with not having to add a Data plan if i can find out how to avoid it...
Its all in the IMIE ... I was using a Galaxy Nexus overseas on a dumb phone plan because they didnt have the IMIE in system they couldnt tell it was a smartphone but they have cracked down on it now. Only phone that seem to be making it through the loop hole is overseas ones that are not very popular. If you switch to the AT&T version you will 100% be put on data plan if you choose a note 2 from say Rogers there is a slight chance you could sneak under the radar and not need it but for how long no one really knows.
I've seen people come in with T-Mobile phones or international phones and they don't register as a smartphone with the IMEI. So no data is required with unlocked phones.

Do you work at an AT&T store or something? Just curious, cuz it kinda sounds like it from the way you worded that reply. I've read on other threads that AT&T does checks or sweeps every now and then, that might detect a smartphone? Have you heard about that before, not sure what they meant by that?

sprint sim unlock

I've unlocked my sprint note 4 for use of other carriers. Now I'm regretting this because I'm on straight talk and they don't have unlimited data! Is there a way to I can revert back to sprint contract again even though my phone is now GSM?
why would you want to re-lock it lol. The phone will work with both CDMA and GSM now. As long is ESN is clear , you can still use the phone on sprint. Unlocking just means its now open to all carriers ( supported bands) and your original carrier (as long as your ESN is clear).

To unlock a Sprint sim just go Sprint sim unlock fill in the info needed. Last talk to a person on the other end and they will do something on their end (takes less then a min) and your sim is now unlocked for any compatible carrier inside/outside the US.
