hi guys, I'm having issues with my GSM Galaxy nexus, when I try to make a call there's no sound from earpiece, i cant hear anything but the person on the other end hears me just fine, I've tried battery pull, factory reset, plugging in headphones, speakerphone etc... i also tried some apps to force the sounds through the earpiece when calling.
The speakers work when watching youtube or any other app and I think the earpiece is not broken because I can hear perfectly when using voip apps like groove ip or spare phone. so is it a software issue or should i get the earpiece fixed?, I cant get a replacement phone tho cuz i got my phone off Craigslist

being completely stock doesn't mean you can't get any further info to help out through grabbing logs of the issue.
you didn't try reflashing stock images through fastboot? that's the first thing i would try.
I used Odin to revert back to stock, how do I read the error log?
thanks for your quick response. :good:

Of the Odin flash procedure? IDK.
How TO ADB: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812959
i did flash the stock image through fastboot this time but i still have no sound when calling, the only difference the ive noticed is that now theres a noise coming from earpiece when im calling someone.
Should I replace the earpiece even though its not broken?, i think it's not broken cuz as i said i can make calls using groove ip/spare phone with no problems at all.
Have you tried different radios or boot loaders? I have no idea if those have anything to do with your issue but it's worth a shot

which radio would you recommend? also if grove ip allows me to make calls that means its not a hardware issue, right?
Sorry but I'm on sprint so I can't really recommend any radios.

My wife and I are stock and we are having issues receiving calls. Is this a known issue with this phone?
If you are 100% stock, you may want to call tmo.
Have you done a hard reset? Does calling over wifi work?

yeah we are 100% stock. It's hard to tell if we miss a call on or off of wifi unless they leave a voice message as some calls go straight to voicemail. I'll try a hard reset. My wife tried calling me six times and I didn't even get a missed call. Same thing when my mom called me.

Go to your local T-Mobile store and they should replace the phone or the sim card.
If the phone is the problem just hope you are under warranty, you should be.

ye check out my signature. up i need to update beta5 now.
try flashing the stock kid radio in my previous post
what radio are you running?
It is interesting that in the last week there are at least three threads dealing with missed calls. Is there something going on in common? I have found that I was only missing certain calls from certain numbers. 100% reproducible. If I call my cell from my work phone AND the work # is stored in my contacts, then I do not get the call. It goes straight to voicemail. But if I remove the number, I get the call. Add the number back and I miss the call.

Well I havent rooted the phone yet - as if this issue continues, i dont want to void the warranty as I can try for a replacement. I am not sure once I root - can I do something to make it look clean and not void warranty!
If there is any suggestions - I will definitely try it out

Hey guys and gals. I've been active in the Sprint GS2 dev forums for over a year but this is my first post in the TMo section. I just bought my wife a new TMo GS2 that had never been activated. It already had the UVLE1 ICS update on it. When she calls me (or anyone else) her voice sounds muffled and there's what sounds like background noise when she is speaking. When she isn't talking, the background noise goes away. Just wondering if anyone is having this issue. She never used the phone with GB so we don't know if it has anything to do with the update. I told her tonight to try a factory reset to see if that helps and I was also considering flashing back to stock GB with Odin. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated

I know it. Skype quality is very fine. But the normal calls are a so bad. Open the call window -> go in the option menu and de/activate the (i dont know the word in english) "Noise suppression". Test both. After the change it should working correctly.
You can check your microphone. Do a test call with skype or some other internet call app.

Thanks. Last night I was at work and told her to go into her phone app, open settings, and look for a noise suppression option. She said there was no setting for that. Maybe she's looking in the wrong place. I'll try a Skype call to see if the Mic is ok. I might root her phone and flash some modems to see if that helps, too. I can flash older GB modems, right?

Thanks. Yes I've now seen where this topic has been talked about quite a bit. I was on Tapatalk when I posted and it does a lousy job of searching. The stock ICS update doesn't have the noise suppression feature. I've downloaded the files I need so tomorrow I'm going to root the phone with Zedomax's Odin method, flash CWM and Superuser, then try different modems.
I am currently having an issue with my phone calls. Anyone who I call cannot hear anything I say. I'm told that I sound extremely distorted and muffled. However, I am able to use Google search voice commands just fine. So it isn't the microphone itself. I am using Psychos Cm9 9.1, but I have the same problem when I restored my backup of MIUI 2.4, so I'm guessing it's not the ROMs either. I read something about changing my settings to something called EVRC-B, but l the methods I have tried to get to the menu to change the settings haven't worked.
Any input would be appreciated.

or he or she is holding the phone against their chin, or there's lint stuck in the Mic hole, or their friends are jerks. Lots of possibilities...
Unless my doctor are mother are in on the joke... Haha.
I used a voice recorder app, and I sound fine. It is only through calls.
I admit I'm kind of a noob since I mainly mess with ROMs, so I could easily be wrong here, but could it perhaps be the radio...?

That is exactly where I would be looking now. I personally find the 1111 radio to be the best. Results vary though. Worth trying a couple at least to see what works for you.

Here you go.
make sure to read the instructions. You don't flash it like a rom. Don't forget to remove it from the sd after you're done or you'll regret it (briefly).
So the link on that page for 1111 didn't work. The 4shared page wasn't available.I couldn't find it on Google since all the links were for a multiupload page that directed me to some other site. I downloaded 1.09.01.0312 instead, read the instructions, and got confused. What is the Android SDK folder? I went into hboot and updated that way. I called my girlfriend, who had the biggest problem with my phone call quality, and she said it was extremely better. So hey, it worked! Problem solved!
Thanks for your help, I appreciated it.
You cant change EVRC in an AOSP ROM - but you can switch back to a stock ROM (Sense 2.1) and any changes you make will stick.
Even if you ask your phone to use the EVRC-B codec, there is no guarantee that the tower will process the request, as that codec uses more bandwidth. Dropped calls and such can (and probably will) occur because of the fight for bandwidth.
On the stock Verizon ROM dial ##778# - enter six zeros and you will find the menu to make changes. Be sure to commit modifications.
Hi. I just upgraded my phone and my wife's phone to official T-mobile 4.3. I rooted my phone using No Tripping Flash counter image. Everything works fine until phone looses the signal and after that I need to reboot phone to make calls, if I don't reboot it just ending calls immediately after I dial. My wife is having same issue with her phone. Anybody know how to resolve this issue?

What is your Current Baseband ? Can you try after factory reset ?
I am ok with doing factory reset on my phone since it is rooted and I have Titanium Back up but my wife won't agree to it.
See if after Factory Reset AND without restoring Titanium, are you able to make calls just fine ? If yes we'll find ways for your wife.
EDIT - Try My Backup Pro for your wife in the absence of Root.

It is same IMEI behind battery and in the settings. I think problem is phone loosing the signal and can't automatically find it. Sometimes instead of restarting it I put my phone in airplane mode and take it off so I push it to find signal.

It doesn't happen to me all the time but when it does it is annoying.
Just to add to this, I am getting this randomly as well, and I am bone stock. I thought it was something to do with my new car since I use Bluetooth all the time now, but every now and then, I go to make a call, and it just ends the call immediately. The only resolution is to reboot the phone.

It probably is related to Bluetooth given the 2 antenna are so close. But it could be the new 4.3 Stock Rom too. After Reboot do you consistently get good signal till you use Bluetooth ?

Nope, phone is perfectly fine otherwise. I decided to see what T-Mobile support would suggest. They first wanted me to try and clear data/cache on just the Dialer app, however those options weren't available, so she took me to stock recovery and performed a cache wipe. Since the problem is sporadic, there is little else to do except to wait and see if the problem returns. They claimed this is a memory problem in the dialer app though, so I am not sure if that was a s.w.a.g. (sophisticated wild ass guess), or if it has been reported enough times for T-Mobile to actually seek out information from Samsung.
I can call people and receive calls on my phone but no one can hear me and I can't hear anyone. I don't even hear a tone when it's dialing sometimes. I'll call someone and they'll answer and it will just be silent and vice versa on both ends of the call, I'll receive a call and it will be totally silent. I have already gone thru all the troubleshooting steps I can think of even going as far as to have my carrier send me another model of the same phone and getting a new sim card they have made many tickets on this issue and have deemed its not network related. Below I have attached 3 log cats of the issue. Sorry they were to big to upload to XDA directly. So here are 3 links to the downloads. The issue is happening on stock non rooted knox isn't tripped

What ROM are you using?
What mods are you using..
Please be more specific..
I was using the Hulk Kernel on the Google Play Edition ROM..
and I was playing with the Faux Sound mod, and it killed all my sound..
Uninstalling the mod corrected my sound issues.. It may not be your issue, but that was my example..
I suggest flashing to STOCK..
BTW those links are ENCRYPTED!
If you can use a video call app like Tango or Skype and you have sound it will most likely be the sound chip not connecting to the modem and using WiFi for voice /video transmission.
Time for a replacement phone.
