I'm thinking about purchasing a note 2 from att from a friend. I understand the phones unlocked already from factory. Just needs to be rooted.
Now I know Clean rom is an international rom and when you flash it asks what carrier like Verizon etc. If I got a att phone and used Clean rom and flashed it for Verizon on att is this how it would work for me?
Anyone with experience know?

The general rule of thumb is no.
Verizon is cdma but maybe this will help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041
Cdma phones generally canot be used on gsm networks.
Some truly "world" phones have sim cards but again the bandsare different . I remember being on the d2g forums and there was a way to send I your d2g to one of the devs and they hacked it to work.
But more than likely you will never get the full benefit of the lhone thats made specifically for the carrier.
Read the link .
Imo these kind of things are fruitless and a waste of time.
But hey go for it.
Fully? No. It won't work at ALL. incompatible technologies, and Verizon will only activate Verizon phones on their network.

Absolutely and my bad about my previous post, i missread what you wrote.
Sorry if there was any confusion from it. You can flash phones from verizon to other carriers like cricket who share the same type of bw, and possibly hack them to other networks but as entropism said , what you were asking is not possible. Even if you could, the later of entropism's post is what kills it.
Always hated that about big red.
And I stand by what I said.
Imo complete waste of time.

nope.
Not sure why you even think it would work. There is no GSM radio in the phone.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Unfortunately the technology that Verizon and AT&T use for their networks are different and not compatible with each other. GSM phones (AT&T, T-Mobile) can be used on different networks but CDMA (Verizon, Sprint) are usually only able to operate on the network they are sold on. CDMA technology is a bit strange because you can't even switch devices between Sprint's and Verizon's networks.

Because misinformed users often think a sim slot indicates the phone is GSM based. Even now, a lot of people are shocked and appalled when I tell them my Verizon phone needs a sim card.

that sim slot is verizon LTE bands only.
so let me make this clear
The Verizon Nexus will NEVER work on any GSM carrier. period. end of story.

IDK why your bashing him, he didn't say," nooooo it does work on AT&T!"
He said after you said no,"It has a sim card slot why wouldn't it work?"
All you got to do is answer that question. This is XDA, not BAA(Be an ass).
If he has a question just answer. End of story. Ik this is an obvious answer and he could've dug harder on Google, but who cares whatever, just answer it.

Take it for a ride around the neighborhood. Maybe take it for some ice cream.
It's a phone, bro. Do what you do with it.
Wait... what??
Won't work, different cell technologies

It works, just pop in the sim and power cycle. Theres a non verizon sim notification, but i'll figure out how to get rid of that soon enough. I would assume flashing a tmobile rom will do the trick

Never flash a ROM not meant for your device.
The Verizon phone looks for a cdma network that T-Mobile doesn't have, they use gsm. Two different technologies

You can flash roms from other provifders if the models are identical.
AT&T and T-Mobile roms can be flash back to back just make sure your modems are correct for your provider.
U CANT DO IT.
SELL UR GS3
AND FIND A TMO MODEL ON CRAIGSLIST!!!
I know it sucks, but thats just the way it.
Okay n00bs leave..
Seriously do some research before posting. My SPRINT HTC touch pro 2 works just fine on T-Mobile. So stop giving false info.
I found this. it may enable more than just roaming on GSM. I haven't read the entire thread or tried it myself well cause I has T-Mobile.
But it appears there may be some way to get it to work.
However from what I read.. seems you would be better off selling and buying T-Mobile (or possibly at&t if your area has T-Mobile 1900MHz) off Craigslist.

Lol yes smart phone on edge does mean it works! In 2012 not everyone lives in a 3g/4g zone not to mention of one doesn't have a data plan or the 200mb plan wouldn't really matter. You were wrong so just admit it and don't be a sore loser

u should ask this in the AT&T Galaxy s4 forum... you'll get a quicker and accurate response
1 should be posted in Q and A, and 2 you may have more luck posting in the ATT section. There may be someone here to help, but thr majority of us are on tmobile and have been for a while. But there is a couple of people who have jumped ship recently.

AT&T has a far less restrictive policy when it comes to unlocking phones verses T-Mobile, even after the "international travelers" change. When I unlocked a phone from AT&T it was all taken care of via online chat - and the phone was not paid off, still early in contract.
Read this thread over in the AT&T GS# Forum, the steps will apply to any AT&T phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962453&highlight=unlock+galaxy+s3

Actually a 1 minute call to AT&T would probably get you the answer quickest.
Is it true that our AT&T Note 2s will work in Europe when I travel there?
I just got back from Munich. It worked fine, at least with a prepay sim from O2. I didn't try at&t service at all

I thought this was in the "AT&T Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting". If I missed something please let me know what.
An unlocked smartphone can run on any gsm network. At least a 1,000 people every week take their unlocked phones to Europe and buy sim cards there.
Your next question might be 'how do I unkock my phone?'
It is unlocked. I thought they used different bands.

Just buy a pay as you go sim card from the country you are going to and use as normal. I just got back from two weeks in London and had no problems what so ever.
I was also under the impression that the HSPA and LTE bands for our Note 2 is different from what they use in Europe. That's why they sell the "international" versions (7100 & 7105) there. That won't matter much if you don't get a data plan though as you could always use 2G and 3G (?) to make calls. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm interested in this topic as well.

All countries in Europe use the same bands as at&t USA. Some countries also have tmobile frequencies.
The international note will only get 3G speeds but your note will get 4G when it is available.
I would like that to be true, but in reading the wikipedia summary of the Note 2 bands used, that's not what I'm seeing under "Table of Variants". There are 2 international Note 2 models: one with Lte (ie 4G) but on different bands than ours.
Intl-7105: Lte bands 3, 7, 8, 20.
Att-317: Lte bands 2, 17, + AWS (which I think uses part of band 1)
Sorry in advance if I am wrong about this - that's just the way I read the wikipedia article. If you know this to be wrong I'd appreciate an explanation. Unfortunately it's also easy to get mixed up since the European roms refer to the various cell radios differently than stock att does - as those who have flashed 7105 base roms well know, ie 4G = H+ Lte = 4G (Att = Eur)

My s3 is unlocked and I have tried putting my verizon sim card in and setting the apn. I will get full signal with voice and data for about 30 seconds before switching to no signal. While I have signal I can make calls and a text or use data. Is verizon kicking the phone off their network or is there something else I need to change?

Might be because you're using (I assume) a gsm device on a CDMA network. I have no idea really. Might want to ask in the Verizon forums where they are familiar with that network.

Yeah I know that the att s3 is GSM vs verizon being CDMA however with their lte am card I wasn't sure. I'm not even sure which verizon forum to ask in. I have a feeling I'll get flamed if I ask in the verizon s3 forum.

You shouldn't. Just say you asked here first but was told to as there as well since they're more familiar with what will or won't work on their networks. Ask if anyone's heard of any success using the I747 there.
Whenever you have device or rom type problems, its best to ask in the devices forum. But if you are having network connectivity issues it can be wise to ask someone with knowledge of the network you're trying to use.
If they do give you a hard time, let me know and I should be able to find someone who's willing to help.
If you explain why you are asking there it shouldn't be a problem though.
