May I just advise caution to anyone thinking of doing this. The charger should be held in by the prongs locating properly. By bending the metal it stays in place by pushing against the middle pin which is usually made of plastic and could easily snap leaving you with a much more expensive repair than the cost of a new cable

Is it just me.. Or does the charger keep falling out too easily from the charging port?
I haven't damaged it or treated it wrong.. It keeps falling out easily when I pick up the device.
I have tried the supplied white cable.. And still had my galaxy s3 cable.. Does same.
Anyone else.?

yea, it's annoying.
+1 for loose
+1 Same here
I've just trimmed a small amount of the plastic casing off the cable to make it sit better (which it does now) the angle of the bezel causes the cable not to sit fully into the port.

On inspection, I've noticed that the port is recessed quite far back into the phone. I'm hoping it's just a problem for a few handsets. I called three today and they're sending me another Note 2. Let's see if this one is any better.
No problems here. Did you try any other micro usb cable.. some fit better than others
Yep it's rubbish. The plug needs to be longer. The socket is too recessed. Easy enough to remove some of the casing of an old usb lead. Will update, to see how well it works.

As I mentioned in my previous post, trimming a cable a bit works just fine.

Mine too. Keeps falling off every now and then. I bought HDTV adapter (the Samsung proprietary one for the S3) and that has a much longer micro usb and that fits in tight. I read somewhere that samsung has modified the micro USB port (some 5 pin connector or something like that, for the MHL) could it be because of that?

Yeah. I have a feeling that note all handsets are like this. If they were this thread would be flooded.

What do you mean by trimming the cable? Can you please post a picture to your cable?
My cable sits snug u can actually dangle the phone from the lead and it stays in!

While charging the phone does it seem like the micro USB charger just seem to fall out
Yup mine does it too, just takes a light tug and it falls out.
Mines actually pretty snug. Doesn't seen to move much at all on me

I think you are just not putting it in all the way... with mine if I put it in softly it just falls out, but a little beyond that it feels like you are just going to go through the phone but it's like a second layer of safety

I like to use dust plugs on my devices to preserve their functionality. I am unable to find a dust plug specifically for the Samsung proprietary plug. There is one from China, but I really don't like ordering products from overseas.
Has anyone used the iPhone proprietary dust plug? It seems like it might fit, not sure.
All I know is that I tried a apple av cable on my 10.1 and the plug didn't fit.

Thats because the "tongue" where the pins are does not line up with the "rails" where the connector slides in.
OP depending on where how detailed the cover is (ie whether it has rails and a tongue or just a tongue or just rails etc) will determine whether it fits

For whatever reason, my phone stopped recognizing that it is connected to a computer via USB (nothing in the notification pull down menu to start usb mode etc). I was on slim rom, I tried switching to an old wild by night rom and it still has the same problem. Clearly it's not the rom, so I'm pretty confused. Trying to mount in CWM doesn't work either, and odin mode is not recognized on the pc. Charging via usb works.
Either your wire is busted or the solder joints on your port are cracked. Both are easy to repair.

Hrmm.. gotta wait till I get home to test with a different wire. How does one tell if solder joints on the port are cracked?
Visually inspect them. Its also a dead giveaway if no wire will work and nothing else is wrong with the phone.

I did a little more forum digging and found this old thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344882
Sounds like exactly what happened with my phone (weird car mode that I've never seen before popping up; charges but doesnt connect to usb). Looks like you're right about the usb port. Gonna have to see if I can debride the area somehow...
If you are not experienced with or comfortable doing precision soldering, hit me up. Also shine a flashlight into the port and see if the pins are still in place. Bent pins can cause crazy issues.

Soldering is out of my cabilities, mostly because I don't own a soldering device. I do have access to dental equipment though, so I took a look using some 2.5x mag loupes with a light and I saw some some dust and white corrosion. I used a plastic periodontal probe to scrape out the corrosion, small brush to dust the port, and air syringe to blow it all out. Wamo bamo, it's working again.. hopefully it stays working.
Sweet deal man! Glad you got it all back to normal.

Bleh it was shortlived, or at the very least -- finicky. Seems like I may need to replace the port. Do you have instructions for doing that?

Not instructions, but it does require the ability to take the device apart and some fine soldering skills. Not really easy to make instructions for that. It takes a lot of skill to do it.

So as to prevent your phones USB port from being damaged by moisture or condensation? Besides a little wouldn't hurt the phone right? Unlike if you drop the phone in water itself.

haven't heard of such a thing... maybe only a phone cover which has some sort of a door thing..which I doubt exists.... or just take a charging head pin and cut accurately like some sort of stub thing and mould/smoothern the edges and keep inserted on the phone always haha and remove it when u need to use the port for charging maybe

I too handle them with great care too. Unforthnately today I used a bag which wasn't exactly fully water proof so some moisture got in and some of my papers were wet, my screen has some moisture on it but I then used a flash light to shine into my micro USB port but couldn't see any moisture in there. Was caught in a moderately heavy rain.
Should I have anything to worry about my phone? Charges fine though, haven't really plugged it in my PC yet.
