charging cable - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

While charging the phone does it seem like the micro USB charger just seem to fall out

Yup mine does it too, just takes a light tug and it falls out.

Mines actually pretty snug. Doesn't seen to move much at all on me

I think you are just not putting it in all the way... with mine if I put it in softly it just falls out, but a little beyond that it feels like you are just going to go through the phone but it's like a second layer of safety

There was a thread about this in the international forum. They believe some are wonky and people have modified them so that they stay in.

micro usb is older technology. the connector is the only props I will give to the iPhone 5

I love this phone!

Brought it with me to Afghanistan for a little entertainment and it's definitely worth it. I also bought 2 extra batteries for it and it's great. I got music, movies, games and I get to talk to loved ones when I get the chance for wifi. Very durable phone and I'm just glad to have it.

How's it hold up against the sand out there?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Lol
Not every where in afghanistan is a sand box like Iraq and other haji countries. It's actually rather mountainous
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
The sand or dust is awful. My sinuses are so dried out! But the phone is fine. I have a screen protector so I just wipe it with a rag. The area I'm in is really dry. Lots of hills that are brown and look like they are made of pure dust!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I just hope that the dust doesn't ruin the charging connectors. If it does, I should be okay with just charging by using a universal charger on the batteries.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Sounds like hell lol, I've been thinking about joining the military lately... I guess if I end up somewhere like Afghanistan I'll take my E4GT for entertainment as well.
Good luck out there, I'm sure you'll be back to the states in no time. My cousin just got out of the Marines, he was also stationed out there.

They do seem to be pretty durable. The only complaint I have on mine is that there is a scratch op paint missing from the metal grill for the ear speaker. It is supposed to be painted black, but mine has a chip on it where the bare metal is showing through. Wonder if sprint would replace it for me....
Mine phone was dropped in water while bathing my kids and sucked on by my 8 month old and it still works like new!! This phone is like a toyota cant blow it up!!

Accelerometer work's intermittently?

Hey guys I spilled some apple juice on my phone (I know I'm pissed to) but now my accelerometer works sometimes like ill boot the phone and it will work fine then nothing from another reboot. Its weird. Any ideas?

Probably got wet on the board. Shorted something out. I see this happen all the time at work.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Crap thats what i thought. Why is it working on and off then? I figured of it shorted out it would be dead for good (the accelerometer i guess). You think if i take the phone apart and clean up the board I might revive it?

Clean it with some high percentage alcohol, I think its over 91% with a toothbrush after you take it apart. I've seen it work miracles.

Spend the 20 bucks or so on the kit from Radio Shack. The little guitar pick thing makes taking it apart so much easier. Its worth the investment.

Well it hasn't been working since last night whether the phone is hot or cold but I'm still going t clean it. I'm hoping just the sticky left over apple juice is causing the short and cleaning it will work it out

there is just to much everywere. would it be overkill if I let the mainboard and the case (minus the battery) soak in alcohol for like 10 to 20 minutes and then blow dry them?
Probably
With electronics, usually bute force isnt the name of the game..
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
hmm well I just dabbed little drops of alcohol on the internal parts and were the apple juice was and blew it out with canned, and I'm going to let it dry now for a while before I put it back together.
Alright it is dead the accelerometer and the light sensor are not working even after cleaning. Anybody have a doner phone? Ha ha

If you were careful taking it apart and cleaned it good, you may be able to take it in to Sprint and have it replaced. Idk if there is any litmus paper to show it got wet though.

I already tried they wont let me. but something else that's weird, I thought maybe restoring back to stock might work if its something software related to I tried restoring to zv7 with the link in the IRC using lgnpst and lgnpst is not flashing the bootloader or anything for that matter. any ideas why? I can get the phone in download mode and lgnpst does its regular thing, the phone reboots at 67% like normal, then it sits at the 4g LTE logo on the boot animation until it overheats and shuts off. I tried getting into the bootloader and it will not show it. if I hold vol up+vol down+power, it just goes straight to the boot animation from a cold start.

Phone won't enter usb mode

For whatever reason, my phone stopped recognizing that it is connected to a computer via USB (nothing in the notification pull down menu to start usb mode etc). I was on slim rom, I tried switching to an old wild by night rom and it still has the same problem. Clearly it's not the rom, so I'm pretty confused. Trying to mount in CWM doesn't work either, and odin mode is not recognized on the pc. Charging via usb works.
Either your wire is busted or the solder joints on your port are cracked. Both are easy to repair.

Hrmm.. gotta wait till I get home to test with a different wire. How does one tell if solder joints on the port are cracked?
Visually inspect them. Its also a dead giveaway if no wire will work and nothing else is wrong with the phone.

I did a little more forum digging and found this old thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344882
Sounds like exactly what happened with my phone (weird car mode that I've never seen before popping up; charges but doesnt connect to usb). Looks like you're right about the usb port. Gonna have to see if I can debride the area somehow...
If you are not experienced with or comfortable doing precision soldering, hit me up. Also shine a flashlight into the port and see if the pins are still in place. Bent pins can cause crazy issues.

Soldering is out of my cabilities, mostly because I don't own a soldering device. I do have access to dental equipment though, so I took a look using some 2.5x mag loupes with a light and I saw some some dust and white corrosion. I used a plastic periodontal probe to scrape out the corrosion, small brush to dust the port, and air syringe to blow it all out. Wamo bamo, it's working again.. hopefully it stays working.
Sweet deal man! Glad you got it all back to normal.

Bleh it was shortlived, or at the very least -- finicky. Seems like I may need to replace the port. Do you have instructions for doing that?

Not instructions, but it does require the ability to take the device apart and some fine soldering skills. Not really easy to make instructions for that. It takes a lot of skill to do it.

[WATERPROOFING] - Would you try this with your phone?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DZrjXSsfxMQ
They showed an iPhone getting dunked in a bucket of water. Interesting idea. Would anybody ever try this on their phone/tablet/keyboard/laptop?
Now that I took a better look, it's a Sprint iPhone. No better iPhone to dunk in water. Just sayin.

That's really neat technology, but I wouldn't do it to the phone I paid $600 for. To be honest, water damage is the least of my concerns. I'm far more likely to drop it on pavement or gravel.

I sure hope you weren't a can of hydrophobic solution!
I remember seeing the first videos for this and thought it seems awesome. Many kinds of possibilities for the stuff. Just wondering how clear of a coating this stuff is, if it'll affect the touch sensitivity much, heat dissipation, and if it'll muffle the speakers and mic.

How much per spray can?
Sent from my Sony Xperia™ Duo using xda premium
What about the connectors for battery, sd and sim cards, headphone jack, usb port.....I'm assuming you'd have to scrape the stuff off of where ever there needs to be bare metal for a connection. If anyone does this be extremely careful of the usb/charging port! It can be easily damaged. And this stuff probably won't be easy to get out of a headphone jack if it blocks the connection.
I'm also curious about the effect it has on the sound, but more importantly the mic. Will others be able to hear you as well?
I'm cautiously optimistic with this stuff. It is awesome, but for a smart phone, I don't know. Kinda wonder if they were just using it as an extreme demonstration, like the guy with a screen door in the bottom of the boat. Sure it can be done, but it is never actually recommended you do so.
Not trying to be a downer, just thinking of all the angles to look at before doing a $600 test. Be careful! And good luck! I really do hope it works w/o any issues!
Oh and someone asked about touchscreen sensitivity. They did not apply it to the screen.

Water in Cameras and USB port!!!

Left phone outside last night and woke up with it pouring rain. Needless to say water got in the phone. Both camera are water logged now and the usb port is acting up saying its on charger when its not. Anybody have any ideas to maybe get the water out quicker besides rice in a bowl trick. Thanks

Ouch dude. I'm sorry that happened...I would be crying if that happened to me. It sounds like a lot of water is inside the phone and would take quiet a while for the rice to do its job. Make sure to not keep the device powered on. Remove the battery ASAP and then toss the phone in a bag of rice and let it sit for a few days. You could try setting it in front of a fan too for a few hours/days. I'm surprised the phone didn't short out yet.

Front camera is still shot and usb port damaged i guess it charges but even when i unplug it it still says its charging but battery level keeps going lower not higher. I guess i will give it a few more days then get it repaired if needed. Tried to open the phone myself and got every screw out but the one on the side and just my luck it stripped so needless to say I couldn't get the back off without breaking it...go figure!!!!

Keeping the phone powered on and trying to charge it was by far the worst thing to do. You should have removed the battery right when you got it from outside and put it into rice or let it air-dry for a long time. Obviously it's too late now but for the future just remember that for any of your electronics.
Sucks about the stripped screw. Been there done that lots of times. Those kinds of screws require a really good screwdriver.
