How do we create a swap memory using internal memory. - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Is this possible that we can add a virtual ram using internal memory? Maybe just 256mb. Please share your thoughts on this.

Look here pepoluan's post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2211397
Or you can also do it this way:
1) open terminal emulator
2) create a swap file in /sdcard (internal) 256M size (you can change the size in the count parameter)
$ su
# dd if=/dev/zero of=/sdcard/.swapfile bs=$((1024*1024)) count=256
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
3) activate the swap file you just created
$ su
# mkswap /sdcard/.swapfile
# swapon /sdcard/.swapfile
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
4) check if swap is running
$ free
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Please note that swap will be deactivated on reboot, but you only need to do step #3 to activate it again.
To avoid deletion of the .swapfile, chmod to 600

Thanks bro. If we do a pristine install the swap will be lost?

if you wipe you internal sdcard then yes it will be lost. you can even delete it anytime if you want.

Have you tried it? Does it improve performance?

i did, when some games didn't work due to lack of memory.
so, i only use it when i need it.

Better don't use internal memory for it. Because it reduce your memory life and thus it's internal changing it is difficult.

Are you able to mount /data from the mounts and storage menu?
I'm not sure.... I didn't know what those mount functions in cwm did so I didn't try. Could you explain some more please

Mounting is associating a disk partition to a folder. It makes the physical partition readable / writable. Example: mount -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /data .
Try mounting data manualy and then try making a nandroid.
Thanks so much! Extremely helpful. Will def hit your, thanks button next time I'm on my PC

[Q] [HELP]

Hello to all
I hope you can help me out because I'm at the point of throwing my wildfire S. ..
Here's the problem:
I recently unlocked my official procedure htcdev wildfire s
So far so ok.
Then I put a cooked rom "mod sense" seems to be the "MIX" from xda developers downloaded and installed both app2sd that link2sd.
Obviously, I blindly followed the guides that relate to the partitioning of the sd in ext 2 and ext 3.
Unfortunately, the phone's internal memory of 150MB is always, and now I am left with about 9mb.
How can a phone that cost the beauty (January 2012) of 250.00 € has an internal memory so limited?
Also, I set so that I link2sd linking directly to the sd what I download, but despite that sometimes I have trouble downloading app "heavy".
What can I do?
Hey there I used to face this problem as you, what you have to do is uninstall link2sd and open the terminal and right in it the following :
su
Then hit enter it will give you access as a super user then type:
a2sd cachesdreset
Now it will move all your dalvik-cache to the ext partition
And you will have around 90 mb free on your internal
Hit thanks if it helped you

Hi!!! Very Very thanx for your answer!
Any question 4 : "SU" = Super User ?
a2sd cachesdreset is an app that i will download from play store?
P.S.: Is this the only one method for increase internal memory?
su = super user and you dont need to download anything to execute that command, if you flash a rom with a2sd then you can use the command to increase internal memory

Welcome
su yes its a super user
For the a2sd cachesdreset its a command that you write in the terminal but to make it easier for you go to the play store and download an application called a2sdgui then open the application the second tab Dalvik just press on move it will reboot after it don't worry and it will take sometime to boot as well for the first time after that your internal memory is great and I think its the best way to increase internal memory

Eventually we will get the Samsung firmware update that allows apps2sd, but we havent gotten it yet. In the mean time I use Foldermount to move large data folders to the external sd card. For example the large gameloft games usually require the data to be installed on the internal. Will foldermount you can move those large folders (or any other folder) to the external sd and free up a lot of internal memory.
thanks gam3r just need to figure out foldermount and that should solve it. gameloft is just ridiculous, 2 gigs for a game

You can create a swapfile from terminal emulator. I suggest you to use internal memory, but if you have swapped your memory so it would be external memory.
First, Go to term. Then type
Su
targ=/external_sd/.swapfile
dd if=/dev/zero of=$targ bs=$((1024*1024)) count=512
mkswap $targ
swapon $targ
For "count=512" you can change the number to other swap size that you want.
You must to enable the swap ram on every boot from term again. Its simple, just type;
Su
Swapon /external_sd/.swapfile
Nb: you can change "external_sd" with "sdcard". Its up to you, but choose a disk that have more space to swap.

There's no specific different, turbo boost using space for swap in /cache,/data and /system, normal swapram using /sdcard or /external_sd. Just that.
For performance, try it by yourself. Test by playing a game, not antutu.
If you're using normal swapram u can change the swappinnes value easily with performance control app. 0-50 for a good perform, 51-100 for heavy use(hard gaming,etc).
