I have installed PA, stable. Current Clockspeed set to 806 and 1200 MHz. The CPU governor is Performance. IO scheduler is set to Deadline. zzRam is set to default, Allow purging of assets is checked, so is KSM. 16-bit transparency is set too.
After using the phone pretty hard for a month and half, I find the performance not satisfactory. I need to perform frequent restarts to beat the sluggishness. Tried a system reset that made it fast, but only for a few days, if not weeks. Could the sluggishness be because of a slow SD card? I used the one that was free with the phone. I got it off Flipkart, in India.
How do I speed it up? I dont have any UI/skins/Nova or that stuff. No background processes other than WA, FB, Maps and JottaCloud (to sync msgs, which are not frequent.)
Thanks.

Be careful abt setting the size coz Cm10 can only use 50mb(just read the thread and you'll get it)

Greenify looks pretty good. Might take me a while to get my head around it though. If that doesnt help, Ill try to use swap. Is the swap created on the SD or the internal memory?
Thanks.

No PROBLEMS GUARANTEED
although if ur not on sense go for 50mb for cache

Most issues sluggish issues on the HOV are caused by background programs. You could try Tantrums Gapps install to remove all the stuff you don't need. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918616 note that it works on all CM10 based roms.
With regards to the memory card you are right, a faster card will significantly improve the speed of response the phone has. However it won't stop the need to reboot.
As a memory manager I used SmartassV2. Also you can safely up your clock speed to 1470MHz, however when I ran some games this led to a nice warm phone, which is handy in winter :victory: .
The final step with my phone was to go for a full reinstall using as few Titanium restores as possible.
Hope this helps

I need educated on a few things, I'm concerned with the performance of my phone so I have it rooted and I have installed system panel to monitor things, autokill memory optimizer for ram of course as well as watchdog to alert me if any apps are outta control. Am I crazy for having these or is it a good idea? Also is there anything better I should use rather then what I already have? I just want my phone to run smooth and my battery to last bc I use my phone all day long

A lot of that is unneeded. I have System Panel, but only use it if I'm having problems with an app. Rarely is there a use for watchdog. On stable ROMs, I've never seen an app get out of control, and rarely on betas. So it justs sits in the background eating battery itself. Also try, using a stock speed, undervolted battery with SetCPU. If I'm trying to make mine last, I have a screen off profile of powersave 384/245, and regular of 700-800ish (I forget)/245 conservative.

ok thanks, i installed setcpu and have two profiles set, one for when screen is off with settings similar to yours and another set to when my battery is >30%. could you please tell me what the governor options of on demand, userspace, or performance mean ?? also should i set priority's to anything other then the default 50 % ? thanks for the help
[Q] cm7 cpu setting or setcpu?
well atm i am running an evo 4g with cm7 and i just switched my kernel to savaged zen and it's running great. my phone was rebooting on its own w/ the regular cm7 kernel i think its b/c i was using setcpu and people are saying it messes up cm7.
so i was wondering if anyone knew if i can use setcpu with cm7 and savaged as the kernel or if it's possible to make profiles on the cpu settings on cm7 i saw some1 post somewhere that you can but they never explained how.
p.s. please also visit this thread on battery life
AFirst of all, all SavagedZen kernels are Havs kernels (as far as I remember, I'll double check in a few). Anyway, if you are using a Havs kernel, changing cpu settings is pointless/counteractive. I would either leave the settings alone or switch to a no-havs kernel. You can check in settings>about phone.
EDIT: However, if you must mess with the settings, you can find them in Cyanogenmod Settings under Performance Settings. I don't know of a way to set profiles from that screen, though - only max/min & governor.
hi i have an evo running cm7 and i had setcpu and my phone kept restarting however i looked up setcpu again in the market and it said that they just ran an update to stop the problem with cm7, does this mean that setcpu is better to use than the cpu setting in cm7?

You shouldn't need setcpu use the cpu setting in cm7. They put it there for a reason, those guys are sharp!
I still use setcpu because I like my screen off profiles etc. You should update your setcpu if it prompted you to. I think the latest changes were for cm7/GB.

I believe the SavageZen governor is a specially tweaked/optimized version of the SmartAss governor.
And if you use Smartass/SavageZen governor, I think it also automatically undervolts when sleeping, and essentially mimics what a screen-off profile in SetCPU would do.

In CM Settings, go to Performance Settings & then CPU settings. Under available governors choose SavagedZen or Smartass. I'd try them out & see which you like the most. I prefer SavagedZen, I seem to get better battery life & performance.

Personally I have never needed a task killer while on CM7, so I am going to recommend against it.
Well I had talked to someone else that is using it like that and they said they get amazing battery life
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I say no toward any kind of task killer. First of all, they're pointless. You're killing stuff that isn't using any power to begin with, which then restarts anyway. The task killer itself is actually doing something, running on a set schedule, where as the tasks you're killing are just sitting in memory for faster opening.
It bugs me that even the techs at Sprint recommend it, so every person that doesn't know anything about how their phone works thinks it's necessary. Then in the market for every clock widget you see everyone going "like zomg the clock doesn't keep time your app sucks 1*" because the damn task killer is killing it. That's if they can even figure out how to use it & not complain that it "won't open", despite clear instructions on how to put a widget on your screen.
Sorry, totally went off on a rant there.
But yeah, stay away from task killers & let Android do its job. You don't have to have a ton of memory free for your phone to run perfectly fine under normal usage. I don't notice a difference between 300mb & 50mb free. If you don't worry about it, you won't either.
Free memory does not equal more battery.

Hi i found an app called auto killer memory which ive been running for a while. this app has worked wonders for my wilderbeast, its on fire. so ive been tampering alot with things but this seems to have stabalised my phone loads. presets i set to lost, enabled advance mode, apply at boot, ticked all system tweaks and of course when promted enabled super user. my phone is now running sweet and battery has improved too. i dont know if this makes any sense but i have noticed a difference. whoop whoop. am i over optimistic that this works the same as the v6 super charger/juwes ram optimiser ???
Ok I've ammended my settings within this app after doing some research And in memory values I'm now running at 6/10/16/100/120/160 to keep my phone running snappppppy. To explain the values in brief...... if free memory goes below 160mb my phone starts to kill empty apps etc etc as free memory goes below next value the phone starts to kill corresponding apps. Kind of makes sense to me now. Ok I know my settings makes the phone kill more frequently but its damn snappy now,and it can lower the oom settings by long pressing the app in processes section you wish to lower and choosing lower oom. Lowering the oom basically gives the app less chance of being killed.
Personally I haven't had a low memory situation since I rooted and installed cm7, the app your talking about I have installed after reading one of your other posts about it, I presume that it would work the same way as juwes after setting the low memory values, I don't use those settings with it though as I have juwes script installed, the other tweaks seem fine but again I think I had some of them covered from editing my build.prop (still have work to do on that though) and a few other little things, I can't knock this app though as it does seem to have made my battery last a bit longer since installing yesterday, I'd personally rather change the settings myself than have yet another app doing it for me but until I figure which setting seems to be helping my battery out I'll keep it installed.
A couple of other apps which might help you keep it smooth,
Autostarts- I swear by this app its one of my best buys from the market, why use a task killer when you can just stop the app starting in the first place??
Fast reboot pro- after time apps hold memory which they don't really need, hit this and it'll quickly reboot everything (unless you tell it to leave something alone) freeing up spare ram.

The only problems I see with having higher settings are if it closes something you use regular it'll be slower to open that app, I'd rather keep them set low and have apps open quickly.

I agree but this app lets you temporary lower the oom level for apps,so I just lower oom on most important. Long click on process or service and to lower.

Yep,long click app in service or process then choose to lower oom.it resets if you reboot so get your settings desired then leave by pressing home button.

Change the view from pages to mb and these are the values when it will start killing processes etc. Ie. When your memory gets to the amount your phone starts freeing up starting with the highest setting (empty apps)
Its all explained above, just that you have the pages view instead of mbs.
Quote " its healthy to have enemies, it means you've stood up for something you believe in "
ahh the pagesettings are the same as the MB ones?
i thought its two different things
thanks for the explanation!

i tried supercharger and juuwes but had issues which i think were specific to me but one of the issues was bootlooping from supercharger as well as other things. im not saying one is better than the other but as you and myself had issues with one of the mods then its an alternative for others to use. i prefer this as you get to control the settings and mods yourself from the app. also this is available for s-on whilst the others i believe need s-off.

I got a boot loop from supercharger. I had to wipe my phone and start again from an RUU as all my previous backups became corrupted. Nightmare. TBH in the few days that it did work, i saw/felt no difference.
Using CM_7.1.0.1 probably wouldnt advise to use the supercharge, CM_7 minfree values are set to a pretty good level to keep things in order i think

I tried out your settings for now to see if it suits me and had the app for an hour and the phone is very snappy and smooth (which is most important to me). I hope there is a slight battery improvement that many have said on the net but will test more and will leave feed back. A big thx m8!
no probs mate, like i said i have tried the lot and this one for me is really good and you get to be the controller lol.the only drawback i have noticed is that it takes a little longer for the phone to boot after a reboot but !!!!! im ok with that.

I see. I just have to sort things out now. Regarding the SD card read - I have it already done by sdbooster (@2048) - I'm at a point where I should make a documentation to stay on track and to avoid double tweaks lol.
I'm also very interested into scratch's build.prop lol (guess that would help to drop even more tweaks). Thx again - I've not forgotten about your tip re. AMO - just shifted it too far lol.
Hi,
actually i running CM7 XboarderMOD V3.0.1 with Kernel [email protected]#1 downclocked Wake 245/768 Ondemand Sleep 245/315. Launcher GO EX With some AddOns
Batterylife is not really good but quite ok.
Now im looking for a ROM which is more faster, or only a Kernel.
What can i try.
Since today i have a new problem: suddenly the Music player starts to play any song without request that. what the hell is wrong with this thing.
I was figuring out to try the actual ILWT-388, but not shure if its really faster.
What could increase my device speed? Whats about EXT4 or all the Kernels.
My Device is actually starting random apps without request (no idea if this is normal or not) but it runs out of Memory and i need to terminate the processes via the launcher. then i have 100/367MB RAM available. What do you think about a SWAP partition? (i use a class 10 SD Card) If swap is kindly necessary; how to install/activate it?
Hope my english is readable
Thanks for some discussions.
So far Nissl
XboarderMOD? It's pretty old honestly...
If you want CM7 you can go for a number of choices...
Personally, I've tried ILWT and EliteMod and they're both excellent.
ILWT is absolutely amazing because you can customize it before installing, and being able to do that is absolutely essential for people who go back and forth through ROM's. It also has plenty of memory free (I always have close to 150MB free when idle), and is very, very, VERY fast.
For EliteMod, I honestly haven't tested it nearly as much but it has great battery life if you take advantage of all the tips the dev offers. It's also in the same league with ILWT when it comes to speed.
To increase speed, I'd go with SuperCharger V6 using the SuperMinFree Calculator's settings. (Go to the Cust-OOM-izer, it will prompt if you want to use them there)
One other thing I've tried was "Sick Speed Tweaks". It is pretty nifty, here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1267945
Lastly...swap, if anything, is going to degrade your battery life and SDCard lifespan (quite drastically in some cases). It's a BAD idea to use it, even on a Sense 3.X ROM, much less for a CM7 one, which already has tons of RAM free.
i Thank you so much bro.
i want to try ILWT first then on my second G2 the EliteMod.
I post my experience later.
Thanks again.

LAuncherPro or zeam launcher! The best in my opinion!
Inviato dal mio HTC Desire Z usando Tapatalk
I use ADW EX (paid version). It's totally worth it as it's really smooth, and is theme-able. If you don't want to pay I guess what you're already using (GoLauncherEX) and the above suggestions are quite nice.
So here again.
Im running ILWT 388b and its ok, the ram problem is gone, for now.
One simple question. Im setting with "ILWT CM7 Settings " the CPU clock to Ondemand 245/576 MHZ but it will not hold these settings. It sets to 245/1113 by itself.
Anyone an idea to prevent this?
You can use Clock Daemons, like CPU Tuner or SetCPU, it works wonders
Here are 2 Clock settings in the Menu in the CM7 Settings and in ILWT Tools.
My problem could be that the two menu have a conflict. Settings i set seems to reset by itself (the other setting menu?)
I already tried it with edit the configurationfile manually. Seems that is not working, too.
Should i edit the OC-Kernel setting conf?
i dont know what to do, cause i don't really want to install another SetCPU app or something. =)
now the settings with the config file from ILWT tools are:
Wake 245760/768000 conservative
sleep 245760/245760 conservative
charge 245760/1017600 ondemand
temp 245760/768000 conservative
battery 245760/768000 conservative
I think it scales higher than 768mhz because i got every time more than 2000points with Quadrant, same if i set the OC to Ondemand till 1GHZ.
LAuncherPro is fastest launcher i had (including GO Launcher and ADW launcher) .. It´s simplier than other two, but much faster.
I touched some no frills cpu control settings and now my benchmark results are about 19000-22000 and it used to be like 24000 i tried changing the rom and all that stuff if someone can give me the stock governator and all frequencys and that stuff it would be helpful.. Thanks i need help i dont know what to do
Now i cant do any better than 23000

Firstly, I assume by the size score that you are using Antutututu. If so then you always get variance in the scores, and yes it can be 4k difference.
Next, I'm gonna bet that you are seeing thermal throttling, where the device is turning off 2 of the cores due to heat.
I've only noticed this behaviour recently myself. It's a real pain in the arse. I've downloaded trinity kernel app to get around the problem. In his app you can turn off thermal throttling and force the two other Cores to stay on.
This isn't a permanent fix though as the settings don't want to stick for some reason that is beyond me.
Next, is there no reset to default in no frills cpu app ?
Or you can uninstall no frills and make sure you delete any folders off your sd card, then either reflash your rom or you could even flash AICP kernel.
This should get you back to default.
Finally if you still think it's your settings, you could tell us all the settings you have changed and between the guys on the forum we could tell you what to change back to.
All the best rich
**just had a quick look at no frills on play Store. Looks like there's not loads to alter.
I like interactive governer and row scheduler (as we can't get row I use deadline.)
Min frequency wants to be at 384 and max at 1728.
That's the basics.
