Hey guys I've had my Gnex for just under a year now and lately the touch screen goes through moments of unresponsiveness.
I'm more interested in knowing if its software based. Ive been rooting/modding non stop for most part of its life and its never been on a ROM longer than 2 weeks. Over a month ago I got bored of it all and just put the stock rom on with the stock kernel and now after 2 months its now having touch screen and lag issues.
I have run Lag fix on it to TRIMM the lag but touch screen issues remain, Is this a common thing with the Stock rom? Or is it something more dire
Based on the fact that you say you are flash happy (nothing wrong with that), I would suggest a factory reset & /system format. If you have a spare hour or two maybe even move files to the comp and format the sdcard, then transfer the ones back you want.

Why is this problem resurfacing en mass again all of a sudden?
Not for me. Running decks 1.3b

It used to happen to me alot, a dalvik wipe would fix it for a while. It's probably a memory leak somewhere
If there has been an increase I would bet it's more than likely due to Evo's getting older and therefore defects occurring.
Must be a disease that's affecting the 4G and the 3D I had random reboots on both phones when running the stock ROM. But after an ota update, they stopped on the 3D. But back on topic, did you do try a clean wipe? Do a nandroid backup and flash the ROM and see if the problem persists. Even in some cases, that didn't fix it for me xP

its because of all the godmode users most likely. godmode in roms seems to be very temperamental with some phones. and everyone was trying to flash all the new kernels that came with the source being release and since those are in their early stages still their a bit buggy hence the boot loops. thats my 2 cents
mine's arriving tomorrow
i've done some looking around here and was wondering what people recommend to do? i want to root the phone but have seen different methods like flashing a prerooted rom or just using odin to get root on current rom (guide on galaxynote2root.com)
i would rather just root tbh but depends on which is easier
i've ordered a case (with a stand) from mobilefun but am not going to use a screen protector since i always take the things off after a month or 2 anyway.
i've ordered a 64GB card so i assume the phone formats it in exfat.
any annoyances that have been fixed anyone can mention or any tweaks? i found the one to remove camera noises and to increase in call vol, and to record calls already
ta all
Regarding the SD card, I have mine formatted as FAT32 - mainly because I had a Galaxy S III before I got the Note II, and when I first started playing around with custom ROMs and kernels on the SGS3, the ones that came out in the beginning didn't really support exFAT. I haven't bothered to format it to exFAT after that... So my point is, both will work fine.
More tweaks, themes and fixes are popping up here every day, the phone is still new so some patience regarding quirks might be required in the beginning as more and more talented developers pick up the pace gradually. Not that I have found any quirks really, I feel like the Note II in stock configuration worked better than my SGS3 did with custom ROMs and kernels and tweaks. So that really has me excited about the future of this phone and the potential it has to become a legendary piece of kit!

I bought mine a couple days ago. When it arrived, I started flashing CWM recovery right away via ODIN, flashing rooted custom ROM (OMEGA) and installing needed apps on my phone. Boom, then I just learned how to use all features of Note 2 after that  I don't know how bad or good stock ROM is but so far with OMEGA rom, it's running smoothly and there is nothing to complain yet
i'll leave custom roms for a bit - but will root asap. i will throw nova launcher on there though in place of stock.
can you change the res of the screen? i mean on my sgs2 i go via root explorer and change the screen from 240 to 160 "something" (can't remember what it is) so it's like a higher res and i can get more things on screen.
the note 2 that i saw in store - things looked a tad big on screen so might need to give this a try
woot! got it today and rooted it already
well it's been my experience with every android phone and every rom i ever used for any of those phones, that after a month or so from a clean install, things start to lag, freeze, etc. my galaxy s3 has made it about 3 months, but it's starting to get there.
i don't think i'm asking too much of it. i have 4 homescreen widgets. i use nova as a replacement launcher. i have a lot of apps installed (including the preinstalled stuff, right around 150), but most of them are games, and i tend to remove games/apps that come with intrusive ads and unwanted notifications because i want to keep this thing running great.
anyone have any suggestions that don't involve rooting (i really didn't want to have to root this phone, i thought it would be powerful enough to run good without custom roms, unlike say my old g1/g2/mytouch4gslide). i notice one of the biggest issues is chrome. it freezes a lot. i also get quite a few freezes while pulling down the notification shade.
also i'd consider rooting i suppose but only if there's a rom out there with absolutely zero known issues. don't get me wrong, i understand that the s3 is crazy powerful and my old phones weren't, and i shouldn't judge the rom scene based on the performance i got out of experimental roms on a g2 haha, but i never once rooted, installed a rom and then a month later said "yep this is still running great" on any of my old phones. if anyone has suggestions on a rom where EVERYTHING works as expected and nothing has problems, i'd consider it maybe. but at least for now i'd rather figure out a way to get it running better without rooting...
any ideas?

Besides the obligatory answers "download and try a few out yourself" and "your mileage may vary," when I first rooted this phone I had very good luck (speed, battery life, etc.) with the Jedi Invasion ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013568
Besides that, I've heard that the Wicked ROM is great as well as CM10 (10.1 is stable but has a few issues that would dissuade most who are not willing to be on the cutting edge).
yea you know since i posted the thread i've been reading up on the newest roms and Wicked looks pretty damn perfect. if i do decide to root i'm gonna go with that but i'd still love to get this thing working at least for the next few months, with less issues WITHOUT rooting for now... but thanks for the response.
So, I just got this phone about 2 days ago (After sending one back due to over heating issues) Anyways, I want to get the most out of my new phone.
So, I have a few questions I can hopefully have answered.
1). I want to know the BEST way to improve my battery life if need be and to avoid any type of heating issues since I am a heavy gamer (Order and Chaos, Brave Frontier, PPSSPP emulator)
2). What is the benefit to rooting my device? Will rooting my device void my warranty, and if so, if I were to unroot, would i still be under warranty?
3). ROMs and Kernels, are they stable? My last device was the Galaxy S4. Ran perfectly never overheated (Got slightly warm, even when hardcore gaming) though. When I installed a ROM (Wicked, Cyanogenmod Android KitKat 4.4.4) to it, it started to overheat from just going on Facebook or about 5 minutes on any game. Continued to overheat even after I flashed back to the Original Stock Rom.
Really loving this device as is right now but would love to learn some new techniques especially when it comes to heating issues or battery drains (So far so good, with the exception that Brave Frontier made my phone really hot earlier when on for about 10 minutes on 100% brightness)
Thanks in advance :victory:
(I know there isnt any solution except to root and flash to a custom, just ranting. Thanks ahead to those who dont flame me)
Hey guys,
its been some time since my last post and boy is this one a headache. as many of you know the 5.0.1 update got rolled out to a major portion of note 4 devices recently. Me being one of them as of yesterday. Since I made the bad decision to click update I have had nothing but issues. Battery life, overall performance and graphics have taken heavy hits. My gear 2 only unlocked my phone and randomly dialed ppl maybe 2 times a day before now its 15. I mean i called my ex at 3am.....long story but hell! its gotten to be a huge headache. The chromecast refuses to connect or be setup by my note 4. It insists that theres some new wifi network issue that wasnt there the night before when I casted some youtube to the tv. My gear 2 has also had constant connection issues, not nearly the range it had before.
The most annoying issue which is also related to the excessive pocket dials is that everytime I pick up(and even when its just laying there not being touched) my phone and unlock it, it immediately takes me to the phone/contacts. No pressing anything, no swiping, just looking at the screen as i pick up the phone some how indicates that I was finished with whatever I was doing before and want to suddenly call someone up. So it doesnt matter what I do this thing is just being difficult. The new phone pop up is a nightmare I somehow hung up on 3 ppl today while just holding it against me ear, wasnt even resting on my shoulder.
now excuse me while i eat some cheese....
Factory reset and you'll find it smoother, quicker and less buggy.
The user file system is mixed lollipop and KitKat until you do that. Try that if wipe, root and custom is not your thing.

Ya i figured as much. thanks for the reply
actually all you have to do is clear the cache and it stablizes.. But i do feel the Note 4 is has more hicups with the 5.0.1 update.
i just have not found a ROM yet that i want to flash. Still waiting for the Cyanogen official.
All lollipop roms have issuses with performance. My nexus 6 was really buggy to the point i sold it and picked up a lg g flex 2 running 5.0.1 and it was slower than my g3. So far after selling that device and getting the note 4 the note 4 with lolipop seem the most fluid out of the bunch. It's gonna take several updated for this lolipop os to run like kit kat. Maybe take years.
Maybe when 5.1 comes they fixed alot
