Is there some sort of global parameter in the settings to disable all push notifications from just about any app ?
In fact, it seems as if synchronisation is not happening anymore even though it is activated.
GMail, Facebook, G+, Play Store... all of them.
The only apps from which I receive notifications anymore are GOSMS and Kik messenger.
I didn't freeze any new app lately in TiBU.
Last week, there was an update on the market for an app call "Samsung Push Service".
I wasn't receiving notifications for at least a week before the app was updated and I still do not receive any now that the update is applied.
Current config :
- Samsung i474m on Bell Mobility
- Stock Samsung Jelly Bean 4.1.1 LK4 + root (MrRobinson's)
- Stock 3e recovery
Any hint ?
Sorry if you've already checked this, but in your settings, under device, is your Blocking mode on or off? Because if it is on, it will block your notifications, not just ads, which some think is what this is for.
Blocking mode is off.
I manually turn it on when I go to bed and turn it off first time in the morning.

Do you leave your phone on all the time? If so, you might try rebooting. It may need to reset. Other than that, that's all I can think of. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, maybe someone else can chime in...
It's been rebooted more than once.
If no one else can chime in, I was thinking of first defrosting all frozen apps and, if it doesn't do it, to completely reset it.
That would have to be my last resort. I hate having to reconfigure each and every sync account.
In any case, thanks for your help

Is it possible to uninstall the Samsung Push Update?
Also, just for fun, go in to Settings and under accounts, click Google and select your main account. Are all the check boxes I there checked for the services you wish to use i.e Gmail, Chrome, Calendar etc? Just a thought.

Like I said (maybe it wasn't so clear), the issue was present before the updated was pushed to the Play Store.
But makes me wonder... did anyone else get that update ??

They are correctly set up for all 3 Google accounts I use.
All in all, I already tried/checked/double-checked everything suggested here and even more.
Is there a possibility that Bell Mobility may be responsible in some way? Not all carriers are as restrictive as others, but I'm on At&t and they've got restrictions and their own apps and their own updates and such, which is the number one reason I rooted. :good:
Since you've tried everything else, maybe taking it back to Bell and see if they can reenable something. There's also the possibility that there is a flaw in the phone itself, though I have no idea what that might be.
Thanks, but I'm pretty sure a hard reset will solve the issue.
I'm just looking at every possible way to avoid it.
Do you get notifications on wifi? If yes, then it's a mobile data issue. If not, the saga goes on.

Have you looked into this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2142503
Not sure if it addresses the problem you're having exactly, but it looked interesting. Hope it helps!
That's interesting!
Might as well give it a try later this evening when I get home...
Ok so, over the weekend, I did a few factory resets of the phone and even tried RTBee's solution above to no avail.
What's interesting is that with the phone freshly reseted, it still doesn't work.
It's like something was changed inside the image of the ROM (MrRobinson's stock JB + root) that's used for factory reset or that some sort of magic global setting is applied somewhere.
Unless someone comes up with anything else, I guess my next step will be to try and flash a completely stock Bell ROM from SamMobile using (Mobile) Odin.

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, but in the hopes that they are, I'm posting this. For some reason, I'm not getting any notifications for push apps. Specifically for me, its Gmail, Google Voice, and FB Messenger. The apps aren't even syncing. I have to manually go into each app and tell it to sync.
I've had Gmail and GV sync for a little while after a ROM flash, but it never lasts more than a half hour or so.
Any ideas?
Not sure what rom u are using, or if you are using titanium to restore apps... but try settings>apps>gmail (or other apps) and choose to clear data, NOTE: you will have to re-sync accounts by going to settings>accounts and sync and enter ur info. your contacts will disappear for a short time while it re-syncs. its worked for me on previous devices after flashing a new rom, not sure if it will work here....
Check what kind of Internet connection you have: settings>wireless&networks>more>mobile networks>acces point names. The one working is net.
Any luck with this? I'm having the same issue.
I tried moving the gv app to /system/app but it didn't fix it.
Make sure you aren't disabling sync via the power widget.. it sounds obvious but it happened to someone

Similar problem here as well. Google Talk only seems to give me a notification when I turn the screen on. Just got my gnex last week and running stock jb now (only rooted).
I recently restored, locked, and went completely stock again to test out a few things and I have realized that the device no longer automatically sends my apps to the phone as it previously did. Is there a setting in the account im missing or anything I can do? Its a pain to have to go download all of them one by one
Yeah, i have this problem aswell.. Anybody knows what's up?

Mine did the same thing, good thing I had a full backup on titanium backup to speed the process up a little bit. I was just going between ROMs though.

You have to have "back up my account with Google services" checked when first setting up the rom....

Dude.. ya think that most people don't know that?
I have the same problem. Did a clean wipe and fresh flash today, and suddenly Google Play is not syncing my apps anymore. Does fine with the contacts and everything, just not Google Play. Note: this is on a Galaxy S2, not a Nexus, but I figured it would be good to know for everyone that this does not appear to be a Nexus issue, but a Play issue.
I've noticed it depends on what Rom you use. When I was on the more stock roms it always did it but now that I'm running aokp it doesn't.

My C2P stopped working too. I switched to Chrome2Mobile (I think is what it's called) extention on my desktop, it works again and that ext lets me send links to my iPad too.
i only ever remember this working with gingerbread on my ns4g. from ics on, the restore feature has only been good for wallpaper and wifi passwords
I found a potential fix
I want to preface this by saying I wasn't having the same problem as you all are having when I log back into my google account after flashing my apps start downloading. My issue is that after it started I ended up in area without service(subway) and then half of my apps failed. I didn't feel like clicking each and re downloading them. The only thing I could think of was signing out of my google account which supposedly wipes your info and then signing back in to restart the sync and it worked for me so try it out and let me know if it works for you all. If it does please Thank this is only like my 2nd post here.

Thanks for the idea, seems like it had some potential.
I tried signing out of my google account, then signing back in... and it still didn't help get the auto restore going.

Hey everyone, has anyone else been having issues with Gmail notifications not working when the phone is locked or asleep. The notifications come in a few moments after I turn on the phone, but they don't come in when the phone is asleep. I checked every setting and it seems like it might be a hardware or software issue with the Note 4 that is preventing the notifications to come in during sleep. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this. This was never an issue with my Note 3 and I matched every setting to it and it all seems to be the same.

yes way beyond baisic stuff
Update, i called samsung and had them create a ticket, the rep said they have not heard of this issue at all. Long story short if they come up with a fix it will be after 5.1.1 which carriers like ATT have not pushed out and that means it could be a year or longer before it is resolved. They do not work directly with end customers so we are out of luck basically. Frankly for me this is deal breaker and I might be returning my phone and going back to blackberry.
Hi,
No matter what, gmail emails will not automatically be synced unless i manually refresh the gmail app. On my old Nexus 5 and any other android device I've used the gmail app will always send a push notification whenever i receive an email but that does not happen on my N5X. I have enabled all the sync settings etc, compared them with the N5 to see if i had any setting unticked etc but they are the same yet my new 5X doesn't sync.
Anyone know any solutions?

Working okay here. Doze mode can stop Gmail notifications, so if the phone is left for 30 minutes or so and isn't moved that might explain it. Generally the notifications then ping through when you turn on the phone, or they just arrive late at the next scheduled wake-up event that Doze controls.
It might just be a registration problem at Googles side with their cloud notification system, it may sort itself out, have you tried restarting the phone?
Are Hangout notifications coming through okay?
Regards
Phil
Check your settings in Gmail. I had checked do not notify me for every message at one point. But to check your situation unchecked that and am getting a good sync
I am experiencing this issue. Gmail just stopped syncing a week ago. It doesn't even check for new emails when I open Gmail app. Only Gmail has sync problem. Other apps including other Google apps don't have any problems. I'm on OnePlus One CM13 nightlies.
Thank god, I'm not alone. This has been happening for a week plus, for me. It's ridiculous. And only on my 5x. Tablet is fine.
I am not having any issues with syncing of Gmail. I am having an issue with getting notified from any inbox that's not my primary inbox (like social and promotions, etc...). When i open gmail and before it refreshes it says i have new emails. I have made sure I have my label Notifications set correctly. This started around December 24th.
Also just noticed this as well I have Light Manager installed and when i get a new email the light will blink informing me I received a new email, but there won't be any notification on the lock screen or in the notification bar. Hopefully Google gets this sorted out

Yeah, it's been flaky for me lately the last couple of weeks. I read on 9 to 5 google about a bug around the do not disturb feature, I wonder if this weirdness is related. I'll be fine for a while, then i'll go hours without syncing until I manually sync. Not sure what's going on.
I fixed the same problem by uninstalling greenify and rebooting.
There's a bug ticket on this:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=197805
Star or comment and maybe they'll take the hint.
Been happening to me now for quite some time, even before 6.0.1. Neither Gmail nor Inbox are auto-syncing.

Same problem, only with Inbox. I have to enter the app in order to get it to sync. Starred the bug @plwalsh88 has posted.
Hi guys,
I had the same issue back when I first got my Nexus 5X. I fixed it eventually by factory resting the device. Been great since, no issues. I suggest you guys try the same if you want a possible solution.
Cheers,
Nath
That's what I was thinking... Wonder what rom you guys are running because everything is fine on pure stock. Gmail and everything else syncs without problems.
You may want to go back to a nightly from before Xmas and see if that fixes it. Or read the change log to find out what changed.

I am pure stock. Haven't even rooted or anything. Just taken the two OTAs I've received since I bought the phone back in Oct, putting me on MMB29K now. Waiting to see if anything comes out of the bug ticket before factory resetting... Shouldn't have to do that on a pure stock, unmodified phone.

Me neither. But I'm just suggesting it in case you desperately need it fixed. Otherwise feel free to wait and see if Google bother to fix it.

I've had issues with Gmail for over a year and nothing fixed it, I had to use inbox to get any notifications since then. I did notice that I haven't had any inbox notifications in the past week, but my connection hasn't been stable until today so I didn't think about it.
with my nexus 7 close by, i noticed as well that my 5x wasn't syncing gmail properly while having the exact same settings. what seems to have done the in my case was deactivating the battery-optimization for gmail. i have had it like that for almost a week now. mails once again come throug without me entering the app and i have not noticed any difference in the apps energy consumption.
So a couple more comments on this. 1) I read somewhere I believe on the bug post, about turning off the doze feature for GMail might solve the problem. I tried that along with turning it off for Nine(I use that for work Exchange email) 2) I see the problem with Nine also, so it's not just GMail. I'm thinking maybe Doze and ActiveSync aren't playing nice together. I've turned off Doze for both the email applications as of yesterday morning and so far, no issues. Anecdotal unfortunately at this point as It's not a simple repeatable problem to know for sure yet if it's really fixed.
I'm having the same issue. It's definitely the Nexus 5X and not gmail as I have my Nexus 7 with me and it notifies me fine (in fact, that's how I know I have emails most of the time). Not sure what's going on, but it's really getting annoying. I'm desperate enough to try a factory data reset soon.
AT&T Moto G6 Play OTA Security Update lost contacts and problems with Google account
Totally stock, AT&T Moto G6 Play, no root, no unlock, no nothing. Got an OTA update that said it was a Security update. "February 1, 2019" I clicked later because I was at work and didn't want to have any issues with it. However, I forgot about it and it installed it overnight.
I was going to send my wife a text and saw that all my messages and txt contacts were gone, so I thought I'd call and all the contacts are gone. NP, I'll restore them from my Google drive backup.... Can't restore, "A problem occurred", I've deleted my google info from the phone and rebooted, then re-added it, still I can't get my google contacts or anything. WiFi calling won't set up, gmail app can't find contacts, etc. I can access them if I use the browser to do email, but nothing on the phone can see any of my google info. I try to restore contacts "Something went wrong", I go into my Google system and preferences, "Something went wrong" I try to do a security code, "There was a problem generating the security code"
I just want my phone back to normal... Any suggestions?
Thanks
honestly since you have att you cant unlock your bootloader and do root or anything but lucky for you that means your warranty is prolly still good so id just take it to att and swap it out or get it replaced under moto warranty
Thanks, I'm expecting an important call today, after that I was thinking of doing a factory reset, and if that doesn't work, the at&t store is only a few blocks away.

Cool. Good news bro
Should have tried that first. As long as backup is selected, it's in your Google account.
