[Q] constant cpu usage? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hello, I'm having really bad battery draining issue and I noticed my phone getting warm so I checked the device using cpu spy. It is constantly using 1600mhz cpu power even in deep sleep state. Since I'm in an area where 4G and LTE keeps flipping back and forth so thought that must been the issue, so I turned off LTE and changed apn to older one. It definitely helped, before the change my phone was using 1600mhz constantly without deep sleep. I still do notice phone using 1600mhz though even in deep sleep. Restarting the phone didn't help much and this keeps happening, any ideas and is your device behaving like this after the 4.1.2 update?

For 19mins I didn't use the phone at all but it's showing I'm using 1600mhz... Why?

1600 for 56 seconds the screenshot is for more than 19min . maybe its showing when you woke the phone up to take the screenshot

Should it even be using the max cpu at all when I'm not even touching the device? I literally reset the timer on cpu spy and turned the screen off. When I had lte on, it was literally using 1600 the whole time and draining 1% every 2 to 3 mins

It is a smart phone, it is working when you are not touching it.
Let the phone settle in. Download better battery stats. Do you have LTE? If not turn it until you do.

I have LTE enabled and don't get LTE yet, it has no affect on my battery. When I first did the update I noticed apps constantly running in the background keeping the phone from sleeping. I cleared cache and data in Maps and the problem was resolved. I also did the same with Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter, and anything else I had syncing and my battery returned to normal.

I believe it's due to keep switching back and forth between 4G and LTE, at least it is for me. I don't have issues until I get in area where LTE signal is really low. I still don't understand why it would use max cpu power though. =(

I did notice two duplicate threads, but I didn't make that on purpose. When I submitted this thread for whatever the reason Tapatalk notified me with two successfully created threads. Must been a glitch or something and I couldn't delete the other one.
As you said on other thread, it's impossible to be using 1600mhz in deep sleep so I'm confused. Never had this issue till 4.1.2 and disabling LTE helped huge. When LTE is enabled it's using 1600mhz none stop.

3 hours of screen on time with basically zero other usage other than what appears to be a few minutes of some motorcycle game?
Are you just turning your screen timeout to infinite, turning the phone on, and letting it sit to see how long it goes?
Wow, that's pretty good. You could theoretically get ~6 hours screen time with the entire battery which was unheard of prior to 4.0.4. I believe it was generally accepted that approximately 4 hour screen time is usually the max.

THAT is the actual battery improvement, the phone itself uses like next to none to run now, only the screen draining. I went from around 25% Android OS to like 3-4% (as well as other core apps went down).
I use my phone extensively (although no games), and my screen % is like 75-80% (at 95% of the time being minimum brightness [5])

Android OS used 3-4% before the update as well. The ~25% was a bug in AOSP 4.0.2 and 4.0.3. It just showed high use, but wasn't actually draining that much.
No story here. Just a fixed bug.

I'd think that a lot of this power savings comes from not using the LTE modem and just using CDMA. But I'm probably wrong. Makes me wish the 4.0.4 update would arrive here.

I'm seeing modest improvements:
autobrightness, 2h music, 4h 3g data, rest of wifi, stock kernel, interactive 350-1200
This is pretty good for stock kernel compared to 4.0.2 . It's slightly better than what I usually get with imo's kernel on 4.0.2

Exceed 2 hours???

Anybody find a nice trick pass that screen time barrier??? Most people reach 2 hours and it seems no one can pass that barrier.
The only thing you can affect and make better is when the phone is off.
The farthest I've reached is 2h 30m on a light day.

Can you prove it was black?
Anyways, I had AOKP B39 + Franco 196, and it was amazing. 5.5 hours sometimes, usually 5 hours as the 2nd post shows.
Usually never had data turned on for more than 30 minutes overall, but Wi-Fi was on for most of the time. CPU speed was at 192-1036 MHz. Never really got around to UVing, mostly forgot about it cause I got such great battery.

Terrible battery life after updating to 4.1.2

I've had TERRIBLE battery life ever since upgrading to 4.1.2 a couple weeks ago. I unplug at 7am, and by 3pm, it would be dead with minimal usage (max 30min. of screen on time) I've tried factory reset, and deleting all mp3 files to see if it's a bad mp3, but to no avail.
Attached is screenshots of battery usage and badass battery monitor.

I'm still talking about battery life after update so I'm guessing your just a idiot and have the reading comprehension of a 5th grader like most people.
Also I have noticed testing with my phone by forcing it on 3G only the battery life is much better so I'm pretty sure its the switching back and forth of the networks. That was for people who actually have a brain.

Same here for me. I wiped everything, reflashed the stock 4.1.2 image and still have the battery drain, even with no accounts set up, location services deactivated, flight mode on and no extra apps installed. Drain is pretty consistently 5% / hour and my battery stats show no active states when the screen is off. I thought about it being related to a defective SIM card, but the same drain is observed with 2 different cards or even no sim card inserted. I have no clue what else to do...
I got my Gnex after JB was released. How was the battery life on ICS? How long could you have the screen on?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
When I didn't use my phone a lot, I went home with 70-80% battery after a workday (sync fully enabled, working WiFi all through the day). Screen time was ~3h.
So, is it worth going back to ICS? JB is superb, but i hate not being able to keep the screen on for a long time. I read a lot on my phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Depends on what screen time you're getting now. My major concern is standby drain which is so high I couldn't get a decent amount of screen time if I wanted to. Oh, and and I use the European GSM Nexus, btw.

Yeah like I said don't depend on what your seeing there. The lowest is 200 ie when your phone is idle its really at 200..click on an app it will jump to 800. The number you see in the settings is broken and not accurate. If you get a CPU monitor from play store you will see that its really "live" its like a broken clock in the settings. Your phone is not always running 1500. Its running lowest 200 up to 1500 depending on what your doing like normal. Does that make sense??

I tried re-flashing that kernel, as well as tried the one for the E988- no luck. I even uninstalled all my apps and did a factory reset. Still my phone would not really enter a deep sleep.. (stats showed it would hit deep sleep for about 4 or 5 seconds every once and a while.)
Broke down and flashed the stock image that includes the recent value pack update from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2361928 and NOW it will deep sleep.
Re-rooted and ran freegee to get a recovery...
Not sure what it was that was killing it so I will re-install my apps 1 at a time and check...

Where is the Trickster mod?
Play store.
Update: so there is definitely something about the Value Pack that is causing me some serious battery drainage. I just went back to stock and said screw it. Like it better anyway. Been sitting at 100% for the past 30 minutes while browsing Facebook. Did the same test before on the Value Pack update and I would drop to 97% within 15 minutes of taking it off the charger, and that's not even using it.
