I've had TERRIBLE battery life ever since upgrading to 4.1.2 a couple weeks ago. I unplug at 7am, and by 3pm, it would be dead with minimal usage (max 30min. of screen on time) I've tried factory reset, and deleting all mp3 files to see if it's a bad mp3, but to no avail.
Attached is screenshots of battery usage and badass battery monitor.

I agree with this thread, having the same problem. Any answers? I have Wi-Fi turned off but are you talking about cell tower searching? Is there a way to control that? Possibly if the phone is constantly searching for LTE and 3G speeds at the same time?

I'm still talking about battery life after update so I'm guessing your just a idiot and have the reading comprehension of a 5th grader like most people.
Also I have noticed testing with my phone by forcing it on 3G only the battery life is much better so I'm pretty sure its the switching back and forth of the networks. That was for people who actually have a brain.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Same here for me. I wiped everything, reflashed the stock 4.1.2 image and still have the battery drain, even with no accounts set up, location services deactivated, flight mode on and no extra apps installed. Drain is pretty consistently 5% / hour and my battery stats show no active states when the screen is off. I thought about it being related to a defective SIM card, but the same drain is observed with 2 different cards or even no sim card inserted. I have no clue what else to do...
I got my Gnex after JB was released. How was the battery life on ICS? How long could you have the screen on?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
When I didn't use my phone a lot, I went home with 70-80% battery after a workday (sync fully enabled, working WiFi all through the day). Screen time was ~3h.
So, is it worth going back to ICS? JB is superb, but i hate not being able to keep the screen on for a long time. I read a lot on my phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Depends on what screen time you're getting now. My major concern is standby drain which is so high I couldn't get a decent amount of screen time if I wanted to. Oh, and and I use the European GSM Nexus, btw.

Are you just turning your screen timeout to infinite, turning the phone on, and letting it sit to see how long it goes?
Wow, that's pretty good. You could theoretically get ~6 hours screen time with the entire battery which was unheard of prior to 4.0.4. I believe it was generally accepted that approximately 4 hour screen time is usually the max.

THAT is the actual battery improvement, the phone itself uses like next to none to run now, only the screen draining. I went from around 25% Android OS to like 3-4% (as well as other core apps went down).
I use my phone extensively (although no games), and my screen % is like 75-80% (at 95% of the time being minimum brightness [5])

Android OS used 3-4% before the update as well. The ~25% was a bug in AOSP 4.0.2 and 4.0.3. It just showed high use, but wasn't actually draining that much.

I'd think that a lot of this power savings comes from not using the LTE modem and just using CDMA. But I'm probably wrong. Makes me wish the 4.0.4 update would arrive here.

You're holding it wrong.
Yeah I can drain the battery with the best of them, but to achieve the above, I have to seriously tax the device and I would EXPECT the battery life to suck under those conditions.
Way to attribute a fault in one device to all of them.
This phone has great battery life. YOUR phone however, probably facked. However, if you're interesting in fixing this dilemma rather than *****ing and blaming the phone, maybe you can get some interest from this forum.
FWIW, I just bought a new Galaxy Nexus (HSPA+) to replace my Nexus One and the battery life is better. I go a full day and still have 50-65% left. I was worried because my friend had the LTE version from Verizon and his battery life was horrible (his would die in the afternoon / evening). I wonder if the LTE version has poorer battery performance?

On 4.1.1 when my phone is sitting on idle it loses about 1% an hour. I've only had a couple of charge cycles on JB but the best I could do was 2 days with 1 hour and 45 mins of screen time.
My best on ICS 4.0.1 was 3 days and some odd hours but that was with about 30 mins of screen use.
I charge my nexus every night! But yes, I use it a lot! Twiter eat battery!

For me (average 4½ hours screen time in 20 hour day) I have stock JB ROM rooted with stock kernel and battery auto sync auto brightness mostly cellular data and no Facebook or twitter apps. I don't use Google+ so really the only thing syncing for me is gmail.
I use autostarts to keep apps closed, and do turn data off when playing games (that don't require it) to prevent adds.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
That's pretty awesome battery life. Mine was similar a couple weeks ago but I must have changed something cause I no longer get a day or two of battery life.
Couple questions, can you go to your settings and under developer options look for the Apps" section, what are your settings? I feel like that may have something to do with it. But not sure. Mine are set to unchecked, standard limit, and unchecked.
And lastly, do you mind downloading CPU Spy so we can see what CPU state your phone is on the majority of the time?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Mine started off quite good at 4% drain overnight for 8 hours (totally stock). This morning not so good - 6% in 1.5 hours. Google now being the culprit perhaps? Because I put my home and work location in, it now gives me traffic reports. Problem is the route it says is always completely different to the route I actually take so its practically useless now, so I've turned it off... see how it is now.
I like the concept of Google now but for me its not a whole lot of use.

Oh I see what the deal is now. You DID turn off data at one point, that would be the reason why it was saving so much battery.
It's always set to auto. I don't use fb or twitter, and only use one active weather widget. I hope this lasts. I've since gone through another cycle and made it to five hours again. When I was on 4.0.1 I barely ever got to four hours screen time.
... Forgot to mention if it's of any help this is all on wifi... Hopefully I'll get close on data, my signal seems strong though.

Hi guys, I previously had an EVO LTE, and an Epic 4GT when I was Sprint but picked this device up when I changed carriers several weeks ago and haven't had the chance to root it yet, so my SGIII is 100% stock.
After downloading and installing the OTA update two days ago, two factory resets, and wiping my SD card multiple times the device is still noticeably more sluggish than it was when it was running 4.0.4. I was under the impression that Jelly Bean would speed up the device, not bog it down, is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Standby time has really improved I was out all weekend and kind of glad my phone lasted me the whole time. I had about 40-50 mins of talk time and about an hour and 45 mins screen time. Stock Rooted. Stock Kernel.

I've noticed this before, and I'm puzzled - how come everyone here has so much of their battery consumed by "android system"?
On my S3, "Cell standby" is always by far the biggest drain - mine is currently showing 54% on Cell Standby and the next by rank are Screen at 18% and Andriod System at 13%.
Ok, it does vary a bit with the pattern of usage, but I've never seen battery stats on my phone with Cell Standby at less than 50%. I use the phone a fair amount and usually get close to 2 days on a charge.

It's a known issue about the cell stand by. They have a fix for it somewhere in the forums, i think you need to be rooted to fix it.

So, are you saying that if I fixed it I would get even better battery life? I already get close to two days which seems to be a lot better than what most people here moan about!

It won't change the battery life but it will correct what is really using the battery. Samsung made a little goof. Cell standby is reporting 10 times higher than it should. Divide by ten to get the real usage number or apply the fix.
