Hi guys, I previously had an EVO LTE, and an Epic 4GT when I was Sprint but picked this device up when I changed carriers several weeks ago and haven't had the chance to root it yet, so my SGIII is 100% stock.
After downloading and installing the OTA update two days ago, two factory resets, and wiping my SD card multiple times the device is still noticeably more sluggish than it was when it was running 4.0.4. I was under the impression that Jelly Bean would speed up the device, not bog it down, is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

All three settings in developer options? or just one of them?
My friend's s3 also seems to be a bit laggy. Have no idea why. He is stock with bloatware so that is definitely a contributing factor.

I am running stock. After the OTA, I did a factory reset just to be sure. Everything is running very smooth. It very well may be a rouge app that may not be compatible with jellybean yet.

I've noticed this before, and I'm puzzled - how come everyone here has so much of their battery consumed by "android system"?
On my S3, "Cell standby" is always by far the biggest drain - mine is currently showing 54% on Cell Standby and the next by rank are Screen at 18% and Andriod System at 13%.
Ok, it does vary a bit with the pattern of usage, but I've never seen battery stats on my phone with Cell Standby at less than 50%. I use the phone a fair amount and usually get close to 2 days on a charge.

It's a known issue about the cell stand by. They have a fix for it somewhere in the forums, i think you need to be rooted to fix it.

It won't change the battery life but it will correct what is really using the battery. Samsung made a little goof. Cell standby is reporting 10 times higher than it should. Divide by ten to get the real usage number or apply the fix.

3 hours of screen on time with basically zero other usage other than what appears to be a few minutes of some motorcycle game?
Are you just turning your screen timeout to infinite, turning the phone on, and letting it sit to see how long it goes?
Wow, that's pretty good. You could theoretically get ~6 hours screen time with the entire battery which was unheard of prior to 4.0.4. I believe it was generally accepted that approximately 4 hour screen time is usually the max.

THAT is the actual battery improvement, the phone itself uses like next to none to run now, only the screen draining. I went from around 25% Android OS to like 3-4% (as well as other core apps went down).
I use my phone extensively (although no games), and my screen % is like 75-80% (at 95% of the time being minimum brightness [5])

Android OS used 3-4% before the update as well. The ~25% was a bug in AOSP 4.0.2 and 4.0.3. It just showed high use, but wasn't actually draining that much.
No story here. Just a fixed bug.

I'd think that a lot of this power savings comes from not using the LTE modem and just using CDMA. But I'm probably wrong. Makes me wish the 4.0.4 update would arrive here.

I'm seeing modest improvements:
autobrightness, 2h music, 4h 3g data, rest of wifi, stock kernel, interactive 350-1200
This is pretty good for stock kernel compared to 4.0.2 . It's slightly better than what I usually get with imo's kernel on 4.0.2
I'm running kyanROM with minimal use. Took it off charger at 6 am listen to Bluetooth streaming I'm my car. Driving to school. Out at 12, barely no use at work and its at 53% I have an extended battery. Usually I listen to music all at work and by the time I get home at 11 its under 20%. I've seen people get 2 days out of theirs with over 8 hours of screen time...... something just doesn't seen right with battery life. Any ideas?

That is SUCH a subjective question to ask. There are so many different variables that can effect battery life. What apps you have installed, which ones were running. Seeing as you are not using a stock battery, it makes it a even more difficult question to answer. Personally, I'd be happy with those specs

May be you should do Battery Calibration and wipe battery stats at 100% Charge and test again.
It all depends on what is running and what you use, such as taskillers and synced items. But 15h is good battery life. I get about 11 but almost 3 hours of that is screen on time.

Something is definitely hijacking your battery. Or at least those stats make that seem very likely. I would try another ROM and use the stock battery. Some(mostly all) of the cheap extended batteries are only really good for the first couple charges, for some reason they just can't hold one after that. Had a very similar problem on my captivate only to realize the extended battery was the problem. The stock battery on that phone ended up giving me over 4x the life.

Install Juice Defender.. i installed it when i saw my phone couldn't last more then 18h and now( well when i had it) i go push it 2-3 days on my normal use that i was doing.. just by installing Juice Defender.
also when WiFi is not around you should take it off.. and LTE takes a lot of battery life. just saying.
also when you go to bed on travel and don't have a charger.. Put it on FLIGHT MODE you will only lose like 1% of battery after 8 h of sleep
Install "GSam Battery Monitor"
it should help you to find out what process in Android System is draining your battery

Same here for me. I wiped everything, reflashed the stock 4.1.2 image and still have the battery drain, even with no accounts set up, location services deactivated, flight mode on and no extra apps installed. Drain is pretty consistently 5% / hour and my battery stats show no active states when the screen is off. I thought about it being related to a defective SIM card, but the same drain is observed with 2 different cards or even no sim card inserted. I have no clue what else to do...
I got my Gnex after JB was released. How was the battery life on ICS? How long could you have the screen on?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
When I didn't use my phone a lot, I went home with 70-80% battery after a workday (sync fully enabled, working WiFi all through the day). Screen time was ~3h.
So, is it worth going back to ICS? JB is superb, but i hate not being able to keep the screen on for a long time. I read a lot on my phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Depends on what screen time you're getting now. My major concern is standby drain which is so high I couldn't get a decent amount of screen time if I wanted to. Oh, and and I use the European GSM Nexus, btw.

+1 I'm getting great battery life out of mine. BTW, which version are you using? I'm on Dan's rooted deodexed zip.
I'm using the one-click that was posted a couple of days ago. Last night prior to going to bed, I had 54% charge left after 16 hours of use. Granted, I have few "aftermarket" apps installed. Although I have Facebook installed, my device is primarily used for email and SMS messaging. I was on Wifi most of the day with about 3 hours of 3G service while away from the house.

However I did turn off data when I went to bed. But during the day when the phone is sleeping (with data on) it normally drops 1~2% per hour, still a lot better than other custom JB roms even with scripts.

I have found no compelling reason to use the crappy FB app. The interface is basically identical to the browser version. I just use the browser when I wasn't to go to FB.

Where can I find info / details on each bloatware app in the system app folder and which ones I can safely delete? My understanding is that some of the app apk files have changed between GB and JB and I don't want to delete any that are essential to the operating system.
Have any of you used this app? I think it's worth at least trying out. I've been using it now for a few days and it seems to have helped increase my battery life. A lot of times before I would get about 2.5 hrs of screen time and now I've noticed I've been getting almost 3.5 hrs...almost, but still good improvement nonetheless.
*It goes into learning mode for about 2-3 days before actually starts helping save battery.
It's free in the playstore, you guys should check it out if you didn't know about it already

Been using it for two days, after initial 2 days learning, and for me it has increased my battery life by a ridiculous amount. I work in an area with little to no service and my phone is almost always searching. I would unplugmy found around 5 am and would be at 30-40% by noon. Apon checking my phone for the past two days its been at about 75%. So I love it!!

Yeah usually I don't really believe in apps claiming to save battery now because none of them ever really worked for me. But this app is made for phones specifically using snapdragon processors and actually works, pretty damn good too.

It must have gotten better from when it first launched because it absolutely DECIMATED my battery life in the first versions! Maybe I'll try it again.
Admittedly, I'm running root66 MD5 and I'm getting the best battery life I've ever gotten without undervolting and the ROM has been extremely stable for me so I'm sticking with it for now... maybe my constant ROM flipping was messing up the app. I'll give it another shot.
I tried it for a week and it wasn't even doing anything at all...
Just get battery doctor from the market should do.

Also just so you guys know I was doing a lot of web browsing and watching a good amount of YouTube, plus playing a little iron man and plumber crack but did a reboot, which is why it doesn't come up on the battery stats.

Hmm...that's odd, works pretty well for me. Well if battery doctor helps you save more battery then keep using it. Just out of curiosity how much battery life do you get with using battery doctor?

4 hours? I've been getting 5 hours of on screen time with MD5, WiFi on all the time, playing Metropolis and Simpsons: Tapped Out...
Auto brightness on or off? I have mine turned off (the screen is plenty bright at one tick above base).
All I know is that I never came close to 5 hours until upgrading to MD5...

Battery Guru has been "learning my device" for 3 days now and it says I have 6 hours until battery savings begin. I'll let everybody know how it goes.

To be honest, I haven't noticed really any difference. I'll get some screenshots later tonight if you'd like, but overall, if there were any battery savings, they have been minimal. Notice my screen-on time in the original screenshot. I really am not a power user. I only ever have to charge my battery during the day if I've been gaming on it or if I have a rogue app chewing up battery. I usually go 12-14 hours and have 25-30% left with less than 2 hours screen-on time. I don't use task killers, however I reboot my phone daily before I pull it off the charger.
