Problems after flash - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

ok. i just took my phone to my local Boost dealer. The owner flashes phones.
Not sure what rom he used or anything. if u need to know let me know how to find out and ill tell u....
Since i have my phone flashed it was working fine. but as soon as i enable my WIFI when i got home i cannot recieve or make calls or text.
With wifi enabled, if i go to make a phone call, it stays on DIALING for awhile then just drops the call. No ringing no nothing.
I took off wifi and the phone worked fine.
Also i cannot download things from the store while on my 3g network. i can go to the store and click download. it just stays on Zero until i get home. and connect to my wifi.

Since you have no idea what ROM AND what method the guy used why not go back to him?
There is an option in the play store to 'only download via wifi' though. About your other issues I don't know.
Folks here would need more information I'm sure.
And why not do some searching about Boost flashing here before asking the question(s), that is sure to provide some insight or at least an education.

ive done my research. didnt find anything. which is why i posted. im out of of state of my local dealer atm so i cannot go back to him. another reason why i made a thread here hoping to get some help.
i also stated if anyone needed any more information tell me how to get it and ill be more then glad to tell u.

How bout download another rom that is compatable with your
Phone.....Or try and download Cynogenmod 10 or 9

You guys aren't helping at all. Even when I am a d**k I am still helping people.
OP, what is the model number of the phone? Look under the battery.
Also need you to go to Settings, scroll all the way down and find about phone. Click that and take a screen shot. Should be power+home. If that doesn't work, try power+Vol down.

OK, so you are on a Gingerbread build - Kernel version 2.6.35.7-sph-710.el29-cl852097, with an older Modem - baseband version S:d710.10 S.EL29.
And running a Gingerbread ROM from Febuary of last year (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429635).
We are now two full releases away from Gingerbread. Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) and now official JellyBean.
Have you updated your PRL and Profile?
System Settings>About Device and Software update ( I think it's there. Havent been on GB in a long time - look and you'll find them)
You might want to check out this post from Febby, has a guide on how to get JB on Boost.
On the sxtp forum garwynn has a full one-click that will get you to ICS at least FI22 here.

Xda is all about reading and learning. If you dont want to read, learn, and decide what to do with your phone then go back to the store and get them to fix it.

Well it sounds like the person telling this to you really doesn't know what he's talking about then. It could just be he doesn't want to take responsibility for YOU jacking up the phone and wants you to have him do it. It could be he hasn't done any more research or reading here since early 2012. I don't know.
Yes there is a possibility to brick your phone. Especially if you don't know what you're doing. using things like ROM Manager, an 'unsafe recovery', etc..
BUT that can easily be avoided by following the stickies, how tos and reading the Original Postings by the devs.
The 'One-Clicks' are by far the easiest and safest way to go. But still read through the OP AND followup posts thoroughly.
If you're happy 'taking what your given' then by all means go back to the store and have the guy fix your issues with that ROM and setup.
Most here are definitely not happy with being told to take what we give you (ala the Carriers, and CrApple), that's why its a 'Developers Forum'. Those that are interested in learning and contributing, tweaking and modding, and just trying new things; can.
Good luck

Since you haven't replied back as to what happened I'm guessing you figured it out or took it back.
But here's another good resource. Garwynn just put up the release verions of the One-Click for Boost here

Radio question...

Can anyone give me the link to a thread with a radio update that won't lose me the ability to get newer radio updates? Is this impossible? It's been awhile since the leaked OTA came out and last I saw there were quite a few risks to be had from using it. Are these risks still very much alive?

There is a leaked ota radio thread, and it isn't that hard to do, but seeing that unrevoked is running a new version leaked radio in a teaser pic they released, I would wait until tonight when they release their new tool to see if they'll have more info on it.

Can you reload back to and older radio?
Hello All,
Everything works gr8 except I cannot go on the internet or make calls or sms.. The phone starts up fine running the Android 2.2 and the radio is flashed to 2.05.00.6.11 so when I try to unroot by loading the PB31IMG.zip you get the following in recovery mode.
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
So I am wondering if I will be able to reload the old Radio 1.00.03.04.06
So, I am just wondering since I can still get into my phone is mine bricked due to the fact I cannot logon to the internet and use the phone or send sms/msm messages? I called Verizon and they are telling me it was due to an outage since yesterday,,, but my wifes phone works fine... hmmm,,, not sounding good!
Darn I have never had this happen and have never bricked my phone have always read on these forums for sometime before making the change. Since so many others were able to upgrade thier radio's to 2.05.00.6.11 and run 2.2 I was'nt to worry about this.
I noticed under > setting > call > NBPCD "NBPCD Current Country" What should this setting be mine is sat at United States of America (310) is the 310 the area code?? My area code is (623) and I even tried adding a new one with United states of America and put the reference country and the only selections are (310) through (316) choices? Does anyone know what the correct setting should be for arizona, peoria should be? I just thought maybe the reason I could not reach the internet or phone could be these settings. I have looked through google and the forums and not finding this info.....
Damm I like this phone and if Verizon would get off thier ars and push out the dam 2.2 upgrade we would not be having to deal with this issue, right now! So I may have to use my insurance but I am worried that when they see the 2.05.00.6.11 new radio loaded if I am unable to remove it or root will they still replace my phone?
Again is the defintion I have place above seem like a bricked phone with no hope?
I always have read from the forums a bricked phone is dead, period! Will not let you login at all. Mine works gr8 until you try to the outside world like I said above the internet, sms/mms or use the phone. It won't even let me call *611 or check my phone messages. It will let me run the *228 fine though! Not making sense to me if it's bricked how can I run the *228 then?
Thanks and feeling the pain everyone is due to VERIZONS lack of updating there OS to 2.2!
I was promised as everyone else it would be released back in July now we are in August and looks like alot of people are bricking their phones!
Cheers,

Hey bro, I am flashed baseband 2.05.00.6.11, my call settings are 310 as well, does not match the zip as I am in Houston (281,713,832) just thought I would let you know that looks normal. You didn't by chance flash the radio twice as o read it will brick the radio.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
310 is the mobile country code not an area code and deff not a zip code (zip is 5 digits lol)
and there are diffrent "layers" if you will of bricking .. your phone still turns on so its not a brick yet... some people seem to have had issues with usb bricking where the phone would not communicate via usb (or be able to mount the sd card) and other people freaked out and pulled the battery during flash's and bricked there phones to not work at all ... sounds like verizon could be right though does she have an older phone ? there are directions to revert back to the old radio or you can wait for s-off

I'm not positive, but I believe that, because you've flashed the leaked Radio, you can't just use the PB31 file to downgrade or unroot anymore. I'm pretty sure you'll need to use RUU. I don't have time to find the threads, but they're plenty of them, it's an existing process. My advice, though? As always, read the entire instruction set AND the entire thread for potential pitfalls first. It didn't appear to be a process for those uncomfortable with ADB, etc.

[Q] steady modem?

anyone else having an issue with not recieving phone calls randomly? ppl tell me they call and i've called myself and get no ring what so ever. ive tried several diff modems....any suggestions/fixes?

Hi Lisa. Like Peanut said, please provide us with additional info.
As for my personal problem with this, I had this problem for weeks running 2 different Gingerbread roms. Calls just would go straight to voicemail, everything else worked fine (texting, outgoing calls). I ended up calling Sprint and having them walk me through a full re-provisioning of the phone with ##72786# and also ##501435# to fully resolve my issue.
I won't post the rest of the details on how to do it because you need additional information to accomplish this and it's just easier to have Sprint walk you through all the steps.

Yes, the settings will follow you through different ROMs. It probably would be best to be on GB when you do it. I don't know how it will affect AOKP. You will need your MSL and MSID if you try to do it yourself. That's why I suggested just calling Sprint, letting them know your problem (and just let them know someone suggested those 2 steps, you never know the level of expertise you get on the other end). It's just easier that way. Like I said, I didn't want to post the complete steps in case I missed something necessary and it caused you other problems.
OK dude try this.
Download fd19 modem.bin
Go into Odin mode
Flash fd19 modem into phone slot of Odin.
Let it run through phase and reboot.
See if it helps.
Idk why you are still on el29. It sucked eggs for me, but that's just me.
EDIT: here's the link. Just open the zip and pull the modem.bin file and follow these instructions.

Sure thing. Call Sprint tech support and tell them you're reprovisioning your phone and need the MSID phone number.
From Dialpad ##501435#
Select 'Edit'
Select 'Touch Here'
Enter YOUR cell phone number on the virtual kepad that comes up and press the return key on the bottom right of the virtual keypad.
MSID
0000000000
Will be displayed on screen.
Once again select 'Touch Here'
Enter your MSID on the virtual keypad that comes up (it looks like a cell phone number, for example mine is 7272780149 for my phone. That's not my phone # btw )
Press the return key on the bottom right of the virtual keypad.
Select 'Done' and the phone will reboot.
Edit: Update your PRL & Profile once this has between completed and manually reboot your phone.

Aw Lisa you're killing me, I thought you were going back to GB.
You're not still on AOKP are you? Umm, well try *#*#501435#*#*
with all the extra characters. If it doesn't work guess you'll have to go back to Gingerbread for that. Sorry.
Edit: You're putting that into the phone dialpad right?
I'm having an issue with calls and not being able to send text and they tell me that it's because some towers are getting updated and I'll continue to have this problem until the end of June call sprint and see if they are doing anything to the towers around your area

Might not be your modem, you could just be in a bad service area. Call sprint to tell them and see if they can give you an airave. Works wonders at home. Some people said they try to charge for it but they sent me one with no charges.

GPS Issue - Waiting for latest OTA before taking in to Sprint

So I have issues with my GPS.
Not that this is surprising, but I am trying to plan my next step.
I am running Calk's EL29 ROM, and have pretty much gone though every fix I can find in the ET4G section, all to no avail.
So, I was planning to wipe everything back to stock, see if worked, and when it didnt, take it in for repair/replacement
I have a jig to reset the ODIN count
I also have all I need to reset it back to EL29, but I wanted to know if anyone had a "best guess" as how much longer I would have to wait for the next OTA.
My GF loves her current setup, and has "agreed" to let me wipe and redo everything once the ICS OTA comes out, so I was was gonna try to time the wipe and submit for service around that time frame, but couldnt get a real idea of how much longer the wait will be. I really dont want to have to redo everything twice if I can avoid it. (once for the replacement, and again for the ICS OTA upgrade)
Any guesses? Weeks? Months?
If it is looking to be a matter of weeks, I might as well wait, if it is gonna be a matter of months, I will just go ahead and reset back to EL29 and take it in.
So, any advice from the the group???
Honestly, I don't think anyone here knows for sure and if they did it would of been posted already. Now you can get speculation but an exact date I don't think is happening. You can try and call Sprint or check every blog out there in hopes of finding some info.
If your phone is acting up just take it right in and try and replace it. I have heard of plenty of members bringing their phone into Sprint and exchanging it. Make a couple of customer service calls complaining and go for it

Have you tried a full reset and reprogramming of the phone yet? This procedure is independent of the rom and flashing a new rom will not affect it. I just posted it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26131653&postcount=4244
It probably wouldn't hurt to one-click odin back on stock EL29 Gingerbread so you can't blame the rom or modem you're on at the moment too!

I didnt try a full reset yet, but I did do a GPSCLR, thanks!
Perhaps I am just gonna have to bite the bullet, reset back to stock EL29, and go from there, again, though I just am leaning more and more towards hardware over software being the issue.

Perhaps I am just gonna have to bite the bullet, reset back to stock EL29, and go from there, again, though I just am leaning more and more towards hardware over software being the issue.

Hey, do you happen to have the ##GPSCLR# procedure? I did a brief search and can't seem to find it. I forgot all about it and want to add it to my notes. Thanks.
My first epic touch 4g had a problem with gps it barely locked went into a corporate sprint store they swapped my phone out now I can get gps locks inside building and usually accurate with in 10 meters out side. So I don't think it's ginger bread.. Ps I'm stock and not rooted

That'll work! I wasn't sure if there was anything else to do. Adding it to my todo list. LOL
I was having GPS issues too, until a found a video on youtube called "How to get working GPS on any ICS Rom." by qbking77. U have to be on a GB-based Rom to start it, so I don't think it'll be a problem for u. It's a lil time-consuming, but it works & I'm on Blu Kuban ICS Rom! Good luck

AT&T Galaxy S3 Wifi Problerm

Hello all,
I only recently updated to the Galaxy S3 on AT&T and noticed that Wifi is practically useless.
It constantly loses connection. An app may download 30% or 50% of 70%, and then stop. Eventually it will connect again and then finish the download.
Maybe I can see a few webpages, and then it I get page not available notice.
I have read that an update fixed this problem, but I don't know if it is true.
Please let me know if there is a software update for this problem.
I only have a couple of days left to return the phone, and if I can't use wifi I may do so.
My phone information is below:
Model Number Samsung SGH-i747
Android Version 4.0.4
Baseband version I747UCLEM
Kernel version 3.0.8-599060-user
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Tue May 22 02:16:30 KST 2012
Build number
IMM76D.I747UCALEM
Thanks,
rblancrt
I have seen versions from July? which are I747UCLH9 and read that this update fixed wifi problems.
If this is true how do I update to this version now.
I have not rooted this phone, but have no problem doing so. However I would like to keep it unrooted as I may have to return it soon.
Of course when I check for updates from the phone it says that there are none available.
Help!
try using kies to update your phone. also try dialing *#0011#, pressing menu, selecting wifi, and turning 'wifi powersaving mode' to off
also fyi this goes in q&a report your post and categorize it as maintenance and say it's in the wrong section.

Hello! You're actually using an older firmware version. You should be on 4.1.1. Keis is pretty simple you just need to download, install, then plug your phone in and it should do the rest for you. If you've ever used an iphone or Ipod it works pretty much the same as Itunes (as far as updating your phone). The Samsung website is: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/ About half way down the page you'll see the download links. Update to 4.1.1 and see if you're still having the issues.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, I did download Keis and got it to recognize my phone but had to charge it again, so haven't done the update yet.
Thanks for the replies
As was said, upgrade the software first. Then try disabling power saving. Uncheck avoid poor connections if you have such a setting. If nothing works try checking your router's conf if you have access to it, or install WiFix if you're experiencing region-related issues. Good luck.
Thanks... Will try the upgrade tomorrow. I went to att store. They were very good at ignoring or talking about something else when I asked about updates. I would never have gotten anywhere with them.
I have a Samsung vibrant and have flashed many roms and themes and know where to go for knowledgeable assistance..... HERE.
Will post my results tomorrow.
Thanks again

Did the firmware upgrade. Unfortunately still have a problem with wifi. Most of the time can't even make it through "Speed Test" app.
Tried turning Wifi power save off.
Not sure what else to do
Thanks anyway. As usual a problem with Samsung phone. Last time GPS, this time Wifi.
So silly

Never had an issue with a Samsung phone (except unforgivable GPS on OG Galaxy S)
Do you want to root the phone or are you staying stock for now ?
Root or stay stock?

If I keep it I'm sure I will root it. I actually had it rooted about a week ago and then went back to stock thinking I might have to return it.
If you have any suggestions that require root I'm very willing to hear them.
Thanks.
Dude you have the old firmware I suggest you get on Kies and update your phone to the latest firmware which is I747UCDLK3
Seems to be working

Thanks to all who replied

By the way, thanks to all who replied to my question. I did get my firmware updated through KIES because of the info I would here.
When I mentioned any updates at the AT&T store I was pretty much ignored and the subject was changed. Just switched to AT&T recently and so far I have realized that the employees in their store are taught to be very polite, and it seems to get you out of the door without necessarily answering your question or fixing your problem. I guess they figure you will find it difficult to get upset with someone who is polite to you.
I have been there twice now and I hate it. It's like they are talking to you like you are an idiot.

A very weird problem.. I need some help with!

Ok, So I have an Epic 4g flashed to Cricket, I have made everything work(mms, test, talk, ect.) I have it on Android 4.1.2. My problem is I only get 3G and its not very dependable. I live in Phoenix, A.Z. Anyone have any ideas on what to do?
Did you change anything with the phone recently? Did you recently move homes?

Look, I'm trying to assist you. If all you are going to do is plead for help over and over again without providing answers, then I cannot help you.
Have you done anything to the phone since you last had stable connections?

I think he's implying that that's how it's always been, or possibly that he has done all of this within the last few days. However long it's been, to me it doesn't sound like a recent issue that has cropped up.
Just my obversvation though. Unfortunately that's all the help I can offer heh

I don't use a MVNO, so I am not sure which regular troubleshooting steps would clear away your carrier settings. (I'm thinking using EFS Clear in Odin is the only concern, but that is sometimes needed for modem issues.)
Based off that rom's thread, you must be using the NS4G modem. Since your issue is with connectivity:
Perform a CWM backup of your current setup.
Flash an Epic modem rom and FC09 modem. (You can flash the modem using CWM. There's a thread in the dev forum w/ links.)
Try testing connection again.
I'd normally tell a Sprint Epic user to boot into FC09 multiboot and update profile & PRL, but I don't even think the PRL update would work for you. I'd then say, start from scratch by using Odin to flash FC09 with repartition checked. If they still had issues with connectivity, then I'd recommend using EFS clear in Odin when reflashing either just the FC09 modem or the entire FC09 tar.
Because you are on another carrier, I'm weary of suggesting you use Odin so quickly. If you haven't already, dive into your phone settings and document your carrier specific info you changed to get it working. This way, if you end up doing something that resets your original changes, then you can reconfigure it.
So give the suggestion that is listed above a try.
Since I'm very much a noob myself, I'm only tossing this out to possibly trigger an idea for someone else: Would perhaps the issue lie in the Build.prop or one of those similar files? I've poked around so many of them I can't remember which hold what tidbits of info... I know the Build.prop holds most of the primary carrier info, but I seem to recall another one that stored a bunch of info for a bunch of the other carriers (though that might have been for roaming and may not be of any help here).
*shrug* Otherwise, I's gots nothin' lol
