[Q] how to flash JB ROM? - HTC One X

When i get my phone im gonna root it and so on.. so know im wondering how i should do it.
I watched a video and he showed that he took the "boot.img" file and flashed it manually, so after that what will i do next? Is it just go into recovery and flash the ARHD rom with aroma or how does it goes? please help
/Pontus

First you need to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery......then make a NANDROID BACKUP
download the ANDROID SDK BUNDLE, unpack it and navigate to the platform tools folder.
Point in the folder and then hold down shift and click the right mouse button. Select open command window here.
Now put the boot.img from the new rom in that platform tools folder , put the phone in the bootloader. Flash the boot.img
Type this in the command window
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
Then enter the custom recovery
Perform a full wipe (all you can wipe but not the sdcard) and install the rom !

[Q] HOX stuck on "quietly brilliant"

Hi I have a India "HTC__038" CID HTC One X. I tried to install CM10.1 so these are the steps i did before I got stuck.
1. unlocked bootloader from HTC.
2. flashed cm10.1 nightly and gapps
unfortunately since i did not backup my ROM i am struggling to get my phone working. Please help me. Super crazed out.
You need to flash the boot.img file, and you need to install the vendors file too !
Make a full wipe in the recovery and install cm10.1 then the gapps and then the vendors
http://db.tt/u5FF3jgi
Then you boot into the bootloader
Adb reboot bootloader (from the commandprompt)
Then flash the boot.img file, its in the cm10.1.zip file
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot reboot
hi i am a newbie so please can we do this one step at a time please.
What recovery did you flash ? Type and version number ?
Edit : Ow and now did you flash the custom recovery ?
i did not have a recovery when i flashed it
You cant install a new rom without a custom recovery !
The basic steps are :
Unlock the bootloader
Flash a custom recovery
Make a full wipe
Install the new rom inside the custom recovery
Flash the boot.img with fastboot commands from the pc to the phone
You didn't do your homework mate
Go in here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832891
There are tutorials on Adb/fastboot commands ....
thats the problem. the ROM is deleted and I have no way of adding any ROM now. can we chat thru IM this is taking too long.
thank you. i have my phone now unlocked but i am trying to flash the "boot.img" (from CM10.1) and then going to recovery->backup and restore but still this does not do anything
Did you flash a custom recovery ? Flash this one
http://db.tt/Krlm4dPs
Put it in the fastboot folder on the pc and Renske it to recovery.img
Put the phone in the bootloader and open a command window inside the fastboot folder. Hold shift + right mouse click then open command window here
Then you type :
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache
Then enter the recovery and go to mounts and storage - mount as usb diskdrive/mass storage. Copy the cm10.1, gapps and the vendors file there
Then perform a full wipe
Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced - wipe dalvik cache
Mounts and storage - format cache, data, system
Then do what i wrote my first reply
Ps installing the rom is done with the option :
Install zip from sdcard - choose zip from sdcard.
now how do i copy CM10.1, Gapps and vendor files from computer to phone. I am not able to see the phone on my disk drive.
Mount it as a usb mass storage device in the mounts and storage menu inside the custom recovery
WOW AWESOME. got it installed now. YOU SAVED MY DAY(/NIGHT). now time to spend time and get my phone back to how it was before. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

[Q] SD card appears empty, and phone is stuck on load screen.

A buddy of mine rooted my phone after I had so much difficulty trying to do it myself. I went to update my ROM this afternoon and was brought to the white HTC loading screen with no more activity. Tried getting into my phone to put a new ROM on the SD card and nothing comes up on the SD card folder. I am able to put a ROM in the empty SD card folder and install it, but than it just gets stuck on the same screen as before. I'm really just in the dark here and that friend isn't any longer available to help me out. Thank you all in advance, hopefully this is fixable. I am quite concerned. I should add that I would like to ultimately just get back to stock and be done with things I don't understand so as to avoid this happening again.
Did you flash the boot.img from the rom.zip? These are the correct steps to flash a ROM:
1. Flash the boot.img from ROM.zip via fastboot. "fastboot flash boot boot.img" then "fastboot erase cache"
2. Boot into recovery and use THIS by flashing it.
3. Now flash the ROM.zip and then gapps.zip via recovery.
4. Reboot.

I have tried flashing the boot.img but when I go to put the file onto my phone I don't have any folders such as the boot.img folder to put it in. As for flashing the link above, I am taking a stab in the dark here but I assume that I download that link, extract it and place it on my SD card somewhere. I'm not sure as to how I flash it. Sorry... I really have tried learning the ropes of this, but I can't seem to grasp it.
I somehow now have access to TWRP on my device... I am so confused.

1. First you need to download a custom ROM like this one : http://tunsd.de/downloads/ICJ/IceColdJelly421/aokp_ICJ422-V3.0.zip , Gapps : http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip and Super wipe script: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0y31poo1kiaif4y/Super wipe script.zip
2. Open the aokp_ICJ422-V3.0.zip with winrar/winzip and extract the boot.img and place it in the "fastboot" folder in your PC. (since you have already unlocked/rooted it, I guess you know which is the fastboot folder)
3. Connect your Phone to your PC and make a new folder named "ROM" and put the aokp_ICJ422-V3.0.zip , gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip and Super wipe script.zipin it.
4. Turn of your phone. Now hold the power button and volume down button together until the bootloader screen pops up. (White screen with 3 android figures at the bottom)
5. Now select "fastboot" using the volume up/down keys and press power button once you highlight it to get into fastboot. Now connect your phone again to your PC.
6. You will hear a sound on your pc and on the screen it will say "fastboot USB".
7. Now open fastboot folder on your PC and press shift key and simultaneously rightclick and click on "open command prompt here".
8. type the following lines:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
9. Now disconnect your phone and head back to "HBOOT" and then select "Recovery".
10. Now go to "install zip from sd" and select "ROM" folder which you had created earlier on the phone.
11. Now select "super wipe script" and install it. After everything is done you will come back to choose zip from sd.
12. Now again navigate to ROM folder and select "aokp_ICJ422-V3.0.zip" and install it. and then install "gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip".
13. Now go back and select "reboot system now".
14. If you have done all the above steps correctly, you will boot into IceColdJelly Rom!

Irrespective whether you have CWM or TWRP... Steps will be similar for flashing the ROM... Just the names of the buttons/options will be different!
If you want to use CWM, then download this : http://htcfanboys.com/download/seadersn/?action=list&file=2823
Put the recovery.img in your fastboot folder. Boot your phone in fastboot mode and fire the following lines in CMD.
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot erase cache
Now you can follow the steps which I have given blindly!
My phone was unlocked and rooted from a different PC so I have no fastboot folders or any knowledge on what a fastboot folder is.

Download HTC Sync Manager: (this is required so that correct drivers are installed on your PC)
http://www.htc.com/www/support/software/htc-sync-manager.aspx
After download is complete, install it and restart your pc.
Download Fastboot Folder:
http://www.mediafire.com/?cm2famr3xd2cnom
Extract it somewhere on your pc.
Now look at my previous post and follow the steps...
Everything went swell until step 10. Every time I tried to install anything it came up as failed. I repeated the steps several times with the same results. I really appreciate your efforts in trying to help me.

What error message do you get while you flash?
what is your HBoot version?
Go to bootloader(Power button+Volume Down)... once you get to that white screen, you should be able to see your hboot version... something like hboot 1.39...

[Q] Flashing process

I need this clear in my head, cos I am going around in circles trying to get a ROM working on my HOX.
I have an unlocked HOX and I use a MAC.
My understanding of what I need to do to get a custom ROM working is as follows (please correct me if/where I go wrong):
Phone needs to be unlocked: YES, DONE.
Preferred ROM downloaded from chosen XDA link: YES, DONE.
Boot.img file from said ROM also obtained: YES, DONE.
Via fastboot, I need to firstly flash the recovery (This, I can do. I'm using ClockworkMod 5.8.4.0)
I know that I then need to flash the downloaded 'Boot.img' (I don't know if it needs to be located on the SDCard first, or straight from the Mac).
Looks like I now need to flash empty the cache (Again, this I can do).
Then I know that I need to boot into recovery.
Copy ROM.zip over onto the SDCard.
Mount the SDCard and select 'install zip from sdcard' then select the ROM.zip.
Reboot system now.
ROM should work.
So, why am I getting stuck on the ROM's boot up splash screen
You need to flash the boot.img from the fastboot folder on the mac
Its the same as flashing the recovery
But replace :
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img with
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
And don't forget to make a full wipe in the recovery before installing the new rom

Reverting to stock issue

Hey ,I have been around the forum and not only for trying to find a way to get back to stock. What I did was I used my Nandroids boot.img and recovery.img and the phone started normally on 4.1.1 as it was when I backed it up. But when I downloaded OTA and tried to install I had the internalstorage issue ,I tried extracting it manually from Downloads app and at it stucks with the note that "This file is corrupted". I then installed another recovery named -endeavoru.recovery.signed.img and when I try to get into recovery a red exlamation mark appears .And checking for software updated says that I am running newest version of android.. Help will be much appreciated
Thanks

You can try downloading latest ruu and extracting boot.img and system.img from there, here's the instructions https: //sites.google.com/site/ androidbyyorzua/home/tutorials/extracting-rom-files-from-htc-ruu (remove spaces)
You have to flash them with fastboot

Full stock!
But within the boot loader you will always see the Information "RELOCKED"
Currently it is not possible to remove this because there would be S-OFF required.

Do not listen to this guy, wrong guide. This will soft brick your phone (stuck at bootloop). After flashing rom.zip you have to flash unlocktocken in order to flash recovery and wipe cache and factory reset. AND DO NOT flash CWM or TWRP recovery as they will soft brick your phone giving you error while reverting system while restoring nandroid backup, instead flash the recovery located in the nandroid back up!

[Q] How to update to 5.0.1 from a rooted 5.0 ?

Hello everyone,
Need some help here, i don't want to factoy flash again, i have a nexus 7 2013 wifi on Lollipop (5.0) rooted with a custom kernel and TWRP.
How to update with the new OTA to 5.0.1, without loosing data and without having FC after the flash ?
Is there a way to flash it with TWRP or with Nexus Root Toolkit ?
I read that i can download the 5.01 system image from Google, extract the system.img from it and flash it in fasboot and i will conserve my data and be updated to 5.0.1.
Is that correct and without issues?
^Yes.
Fastboots the best way to go. No toolkits needed. Takes a couple minutes.
The normal commands to update would be:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloadername.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot format cache
fastboot reboot
Since the bootloader didn't change you can skip that part. The kernel (boot) didn't change either this time I don't think but I'd flash it always when flashing system.
Just drag system.img and boot.img to your fastboot folder (platform tools if you downloaded the sdk), hold shift and right click> open command window here then run the above commands.
Let it boot then reflash su from twrp.
Pretty sure you can also drag the image-razor.zip to your fastboot folder and run fastboot update imagename.zip. You will have to reflash twrp though.
Hi, this is a little off topic.
I have a 4.4.4 rooted one and it failed to update to 5.0.1. Now it says system is update even though it still 4.4.4. Is there anyway for me to fix it and get update?

Is running fastboot format cache necessary?
^I'm no expert but I can't see why not to run it, not going to hurt anything and could possibly save you some problems later.
anhhuy1605 I'd just go to the factory images page download it and do a full clean install. I would not recommend trying to upgrade from KK and keeping data. Though I'm sure it's worked fine for lots of people.

First thing first:
1. Uninstall any mod and busybox and xposed (Make sur that your system is clean) thant Unroot with supersu
2. Flash the stock boot (kernel) and stock recovery
3. Sideload the ota for 5.0 and flash it
Hopefully it will be allright but don't forget to backup your data with titanium backup to your computer.

If you decompress the new Factory Image from here : https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
You're welcome
Thank you very much! :good:
Actually I expected that this factory image would also only contain a system.new.dat just like the LRX21P did before. That's why I din't even have a look at it. I just downloaded and extracted it, and could convert it to a mountable image (using simg2img)
Cheers,
tungdil
P.S.: Just finished flashing Stock 5.0.1 as secondary ROM with MultiROM after building a flashable zip using this system.img. Thanks again eddy0147 for the hint :good:
