SPH-D710 Battery/Samsung Replacement question - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Where are some good places that sell batteries for this phone?
I tried calling Samsung for a replacement, but they want me to send in my battery first, along with a receipt of the purchase before getting a replacement. Like I still have the receipt. Has this happened to anyone before while trying to get a replacement?

Amazon, ebay, Google...

They last pretty well?
Saw this and thought it was a good deal http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Batteri...purpose/dp/tech-data/B005HBH1R2/ref=de_a_smtd

I bought this one from Amazon.com earlier this month
It's about $20
I've been using it ever since then, and it lasts all day, sometimes more. It all depends on usage, of course. I'm running 3/25 Wild For the Night, and I get about 2 Bars Service, Wifi On. Last time I checked I ran the battery to 4 Percent after about 22 hours, I think.

I previously purchased a single Anker with charger and it's been great. I just received the pkg you linked to with 2 batteries and charger (arrived yesterday). I need the extra batteries because my office gets such a poor signal that I burn through batteries quickly. Also, I'm taking a long trip this summer and didn't want to be caught w/o power. Anker is great. They have good customer service. For less than $25 for 2 good batteries and a very versatile charger, you can't go wrong.
The charger does take a bit to get used to, and I've read reviews of people breaking them. I've never had an issue. It's great because you can plug the charger into the wall and charger a battery. While that's charging, you can add a USB cable and attach it to your phone. I've also plugged a USB cable into it from my car charger to charge a spare battery.

I bought a $3.48 no name 2100 mAh battery off of eBay like 8 months ago. Still going strong, and slim like the original. Ask me, buying a battery is a gamble no matter where you get it. Good luck on your hunt.

You do not need a receipt. Sprint customer service are idiots and have no training, they learn all on the job and reading from a script. The turn over rate is atrocious. That's why no one seems to ever know what they are doing. All they have to do is look up the date of when the phone was activated and if it was less then a year u are still under warranty. Call And tell them u want a replacement. They send one out to u with a envelope to send your old one back. If they don't get your old one back in so many days they will charge u for the new battery. Its super simple. I have done it that way a couple times.

I personally went to a Sprint corporate store and they gave me a replace E4GT battery for free. Pretty sure I was outside warranty (had since release date) but I have the TEP if that matters.
Gave me one no problem.

This is Samsung. I haven't talked with Sprint yet, they keep telling me to go to Samsung when I had to get my phone replaced. I was told that I should go to Samsung for warranty issues, but I guess I'll call Sprint and have them send my sister and I a new battery.

I don't have TEP and haven't had it for about three years now, never really needed it.

Sprint does warranty repair and replacements for Samsung. The sprint repair stores don't like to because they do not get reimbursed for work right a way. They have to submit a invoice to get paid by the manufacturer basically. I'm skipping over a lot of steps but that's the gist. So yes sprint stores can and will do warranty stuff. I have found it easier to actually call and talk to sprint tech support.

What are those steps?
I also bought those batteries I posted in one of my posts as a backup, but still want the battery replaced. Samsung and Sprint are really getting annoying, cant wait to ditch these two companies and go to HTC.

Call sprint and tell them of your issue. They will tell you that they will replace the battery and put in a ticket. When you take it to a sprint store, they have to do it since you were already told that it would be replaced.
Now to really sell it to the sprint tech on the phone, tell them that you used a battery from a friends E4GT for a few days while they waited for a replacement device and had no issues with that battery.

I've told this same story to five different people (including manager) who said since you don't have TEP we aren't able to do anything. I told them sure you can, I've gotten a replacement phone free of charge without TEP. I did go through Samsung though with their warranty and will see what comes back, but I need to redo this for my sister who has a bad battery too.
I always hate going to Sprint Stores because they are useless. Last time I needed something done was when the touch pad was defective and both Sprint and Samsung confirmed it and would fix it for free, none of the stores knew about it, had to call Customer Service again and they called the store and explained everything, after that they didn't even test the phone and just fixed the screen.

If your phone/battery is less then a year old they have to do it for you no matter if u have tep or not. Just call first like poster above said and they will put a ticket in for your local repair store. If it's more then a year, you are out side of warranty and will have to pay full price for a battery. Which can very a little from store but does come with a year warranty.

Square Trade is amazing, been using them since my Nexus One
I would recommend contacting your homeowner insurance company and get a separate rider to cover your phone. I have a policy that covers my phone, my dslr and my bicycles. This policy is very cheep and does not effect my homeowners insurance if I make a claim. Well worth looking at. I think my $2000 policy only costs me $50 a year with a $100 deductible.

Just began the Asurion process tonight. Uploaded the affidavit online and should be paying the deductible tomorrow. Ideally I'll have my new Bolt by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. From what I've read, Asurion is sending out brand new replacements in factory box complete with another 32GB SD card and charger plus another battery. I could sell those together to cover the deductible or just keep them for myself.
If thats true, gotta love Asurion.

What happened to your Bolt man? And if it's anything like it was with my OG Droid you'll essentially be getting a new one. In two years I had 4 claims and I ended up getting 4 8GB SD cards from it.

Well they emailed me and told me the phone I'm getting will have a new home charger, battery and micro SD. So I can only assume it's going to be a new phone. Never heard of CLNR devices coming with all that.
The weirdest thing happened to my Bolt. I've dropped this s.o.b probably 3-4 times. The corners were all scratched and one corner even cracked a little but it never affected the phone's usability.
The other night, I had my phone plugged into my computer in my room. I thought the cord was longer than it was and when I pulled it, it pulled back and fell. The corner of the screen hit my belt's buckle on the floor and cracked. That little bit broke the gorilla glass. The floor was carpeted too!! lol
Anyway, I paid the deductible this morning at 7am and I'm going to have the phone tomorrow afternoon. I'll report back then. I'm hoping they don't require me to send my old phone back so I can toy with it. It still works fine just a cracked screen.
When I first did the claim, I was going to tell them I lost it and hit that option but when I sent the affidavit in last night, my conscience hit me and I selected the damaged option. So we'll see.

Yeah I got the refurbished unit tonight. It's a great replacement. Came with a new 32GB SD card, wall charger, battery and battery cover.
They even sent me a new LTE sim card. Don't know what I'll do with that.
They have me in their system as a lost phone but my conscience is telling me to send it back because it's the right thing to do. lol
Here's what I got in my package.

my tbolt is already insured thru verizon... i think its a better deal through asurion or squaretrade, but is it possible to switch now?
Canes was the process simple? In my years of own a cell phone I have never used an insurance claim even tho I always had insurance cuz i mean you never know.
Like you I have drooped my phone multiple times and one night at work it took a really hard fall in the concrete sidewalk. A few scratches and the screen was fine. I thought I was lucky.....til I tried to turn on the WiFi and got an error instead. Same thing with my WiFi hotspot and any other tether app so I broke my WiFi and I'm thinking of getting a replacement cuz i might wanna sell this on eBay in the future if a better phone comes out. How long did it take to get your replacement?

Isn't Asurion the insurance provider that VZW uses?
Corporate Verizon uses asurion. Some of the authorized dealers use other companies, being a former tech, always ran into problems with authorized dealers. Always buy from verizonwireless.com or a corporate VZW as authorized retailers often resell returned devices as "New"

This is true. I used to do bill collections for Tmobile and Sprint/Nextel at the same agency. A lot of times, the authorized retailers would charge their own ETF on top of the Corporate ETF. So if the ETF was say $200. It would be $400. Double whammy.
Not sure if Verizon authorized retailers do that too or not.

I had no idea they offered insurance on phones through other companies... Thats not a bad deal. I think I may look into that and drop Asurion, even though when I worked for HTC tech support Asurion was in the cubicles behind me.
But I havent had any issues with my Bolt since I rooted and running CM7.1.1
Knock on wood ... I've never got insurance for a phone. Thought about it for my Thunderbolt, but if you just complain to Verizon enough they'll replace it
I have dropped, drenched, or otherwise maimed no less than 5 phones in the amount of time I've been with Verizon. Asurion is always super quick and extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend it.

galaxy s3 glass replacement price

bought a galaxy s3 about two days ago and the screen is already cracked
I pay for insurance, but they told me that they don't cover physical damage (i didn't tell them that it's broken)...
the deductible for a new phone is $150... would it be cheaper to just get it replaced or is there a way i can replace the digitizer myself for less

Yeah, I don't really get the point of insurance if it doesn't cover physical damage. Where did you get it from and how much do you pay?
so looks like the guy on the phone gave me wrong info... I do have sprint's total equipment protection plan... sucks that the deductible is $150 though..

I thought if you report the phone stolen that they block the IMEI or something so the phone can't be used anyway.
I know when I was with t-mobile, one could just take the SIM card out and change it. Not understanding how it works with Sprint phones since they have to be activated. Google time lol.

I would go into the sprint store (that does repairs), show the person at the front your phone and tell them you want to talk to a tech to see about repairing the phone. You may be surprised, or not, at what they'll do. They'll either fix it there for less, or replace the phone for nothing seeing as you just got it. I wouldn't push that second option, but that's what they did for me without me even asking. Could have been the particular manager trying to boost her happy customer numbers, who knows. I've had sprint for 12 years, and have had SERO for 5+ of those. Still not sure why she did it, but I'm happy.
Heck, if it doesn't get you the free replacement outcome, go to a non-repair center store and try the same thing, as if you didn't know it was a non-repair store.

I guess lost things can be found...as far as ethics go we are talking about insurance, that in itself teeters on ethical behavior. we pay the premiums and sometimes need to utilize their "services". they will find a way to raise the price anyway if they need to.

I JUST HAD A WHOLE THREAD ON THIS WHY DIDN'T YOU SEARCH? It cost about 178.50 to repair per my conversation with Samsung, and this covers next day shipping there and back. I went to a Sprint Corporate store to get a repair because it was a minor crack that left the phone operating flawlessly. The tech told me that "Sprint" has a no repair on phones for some strange reason they are not allowed to repair phones.
Since Sprint is an Agent for Asurion insurance the are making money on the 150.00 deductible, and taking your phone and repairing these crack to make profit. So in essence the 11.00 fee is just gravy on top of that.
Drop insurance and just pay Sammy to fix it....the nerve of Sprint over charging for minor repairs like a cracked glass. I found an official front glass cover for 25.00. To repair it should not coast much, but you need an official repair or it may void the Samsung warranty.

Reporting the phone lost when it's not and getting a new one with insurance is really unethical and also probably illegal. If you're going to do that, though, might as well "cleanse" the ESN of the old one and sell it on ebay for $500-600.
i had sprint for 2 years now and i had over 12 replacements. I started off with htc evo and they kept braking down and I would just take it to tech people and they replaced for free and then as replacement. I got htc evo 3d and then had few of them kept braking down or something then I got a moto photon and i was really dropped it and cracked screen they had extra photon that was going back for something other bad and he swapped screen onto my photon and went thought few more and then i got a SGS2 as a replacement. Everyone was shocked I got it as a replacement from sprint and then I havent spent anything to replace or fix my cell yet and now renewed my contract and got SGS3 and i love it
sprint been best service I have had for phones (I use to work for tmobile ......and had custom plan...)

I must have missed something, what would have SEARCHING done in my case? Or, how would it have changed my post in response to this person's problem? Please enlighten me.

What is Asurion like these days?

So when I connect my phone via USB the first time it doesn't connect to the computer. I have to unplug/plug back in then it connects. But a lot of times after connecting it once I unplug the phone it stops connecting until I restart the phone. Other times I go to look at my internal memory and it won't load the file list (from My Files on the phone).
Anyway, I am thinking about trying to get it replaced, but had a few questions I was hoping someone could answer.
1. Are they replacing the phones with refurbs or new phones?
2. Is there an outrageous wait time? I had an Epic 4G Touch break months after launch and they told me I'd have to wait like three weeks.
Depending on the answers I may just stick with this one and deal with the restarting all the time. And please skip the "O that's not a real problem"....comments. I pay $11 for TEP a month so I'll use it if I want.
Why are you using asurion. You wojld have to pay a 100 dollar deductible through i asurion. Im sure your just uneducated on what your paying for.Why not take it to sprint and have them replace it. Its called a manufacturers warranty? And asurion is replacing the gs3 right now with brand new in the box phones.

Because I HATE Sprint stores around my area. They give me a hard time on the littlest of things and are terrbily ineffective.
If I go to them with that issue how easy is it going to be to get replaced? And I still have to pay the deductible right?
EDIT: To me if I can get it fast through Asurion and avoid going to the store its a plus. I remember I had an Curve 8330 replaced through them once and they had sent it out real quick and then I sent my phone back. But it was a refurb and in worse condition than mine -_-.
I've had to use Assurion 3 times with my E4GT, and the service has been great. The replacement arrives the next day (depending on what time you report the problem). It's all done on the website, and works very efficiently. My last replacement was a new in the box replacement, with battery, cables, manuals, etc. I just hate the $100 deductible. Going to buy an SGS III at Best Buy today, unless someone has a good reason why not...

Like I said asurion is a 100 dollar deductible. Call sprint and have then send you a replacement most likely it won't be a refurb but a new unit without a battery. The phone is so new that refurbs are not really out there companies like Verizon and sprint and so on have a back supply of phones without packing to replace defective devices. Also sprint with tep will next day your replacement phone. Over the phone service gets you out of going to a store.

I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes. Sprint always gives me a hassle over everything but it is worth not having to pay the deductible.
The Galaxy s III is actually $150 from Asurion. Currently the phone is too new for for refurbs to be sent out. You wold receive a new one. For the issue you are stating though, make sure you have samsung adb drivers installed to your pc. Otherwise it will not connect properly. This has been the biggest reason for it not connecting with customers coming in the store here.
If it is connected, ensure USB Debugging is not on as there are many times the stores will forget to turn that off after transferring your information.
Also make sure Connected as Media Device is also checked under settings. '
If all else fails bring it into the store to have it checked out. However be advised they will likely reset the phone in their conquest to fix it.

Take the issue to the store. There are ways to make it seem like your phone needs swapped. Most places verify and swap.
Through Asurion, you're gonna pay $150 deductible. TEP went to $11. So did the deductible.

I'll purposely keep USB debugging on. That way if a customer comes into the store with a broken LCD I can still transfer their information for them.
People need to learn how to use gmail. -.-
Free bump. Lol.

I've had this problem too. In my case, switching from MTP>PTP>MTP get's it working ok. The other workaround that I use a lot is Airdroid, let's transfer files to/from the phone over wifi. Idk why Samsung didn't put in UMD!
I messed up and forgot to call to add TEP and was a bit nit picky about taking on the Radio Shack insurance...
Asurion 150 deductible is only for tablets. Smart phones are 100. Go to the asution website and verify.

Deductible is $150 for the SG3
Taken from the deductible tool found here:
To determine your deductible and monthly charge:
Select your device's manufacturer and model. Samsung Galaxy III 16GB
deductible is $150
Your charge is $11 per month, per device, if enrolled in Total Equipment Protection(TEP)
Usually if the phone isn't trashed and just a simple hardware failure, sprint will replace for $35. I've had a few replacements this way. Haven't had insurance in years.

Does it have to be corporate store or third party as well will do.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
3rd party..last I knew corporate stores don't do repairs anymore. At least not here in NY. Just go to any authorized repair center. If it's a hardware failure and not due to abuse or mishandling they should cover it for the $35..I replaced my OG Evo twice for a busted USB port and once for a bad speaker this way.

[Q] Which insurance do you use?

I've been with T-Mobile insurance, Asurion since the G1. I'm planning on getting the Nexus 4 (THIS IS NOT A NEXUS 4 THREAD DO NOT TURN IT INTO ONE!!!!) should I drop the T-Mobile insurance and go with a different company... Options I have looked up are SquareTrade & Ensquared. If you know of another company I'm all ears. Thanks.
Ive heard that you can even insure it through some companies like state farm or whatever. Dont quote me on it, someone told me that a while back but I never looked into it. If they do id imagine its an addon type thing....

Will T-Mobile/Asurion still ensure my phone if its a nexus device that I do not purchase through T-Mobile?

Dont rely only on me, but I am pretty sure they will, so long as you are on a monthly plan, not prepaid. Verify that though!
I have heard a few times that using Asurion is a bit more expensive than other options, just fyi. It is convenient though.
Ya I'm going to ask a dude I know that works for them tomorrow. It is cheaper with the other companies with a cheaper deductible it seems, well I'll see what he says and go from there.

Yeah but I do believe it has to be a Tmobile device. I called a while ago because I had insurance but the S3 wasn't purchased on my account. They assured me as long as it's a tmobile device you'll be covered.

I use "I take extreme care for my devices and know how to fix them should something happen to them insurance" for all insurance companies rip you off. I'll tell you my story with my HTC touch pro 2 that I had gotten replaced via insurance.....
(Short version)
Phone flew down steps landed on concrete floor. Turned into confetti.
Called asurion. 100 bucks for deductible. After paying over 200 in monthly bills.(could have bought a brand new one from eBay for 150 at the time, didn't realize this till after I replaced it)
Got replacement, didn't work. Got second replacement. Still didn't work. Got third replacement(was extremely pissed by now) and ripped apart both 2nd replacement and 3rd and combined all the good parts to make a good phone.
And ever since then, I will never waste my money on insurance for my phone. It's nothing but a waste of money.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Ya I understand all that lol. But I go out and camp, fish, go boating, drink, and house parties and what not (immature 23 year old) so I've used my insurance a few times; once with my G1 (stolen) twice with my MyTouch 3G (stolen, and then dropped which caused a weird ear piece sound while on call). So I like insurance and haven't been screwed over. Never had any issues with my G2X or the S3 so I've grown up a little and love my phones more now, haha.
I was going to ask the same thing but given that you asked it already, I'd like to see other responses. So far I've only had SquareTrade Warranty on multiple devices. I still haven't had to file a claim but the thing that I like is if I sell one of my devices, I can cancel my plan and get a prorated refund. I'm not sure if other companies do that.
I recently got my Samsung Galaxy S3 and haven't made a decision on what company to choose. Ensquared is cheaper and they claim to cover theft and accidental, all for $59 for 1 year. If anybody has dealt with them, can you please give us some insight?

Question about Insurance Claim through T-Mobile

I just made an insurance claim through T-Mobile because my wife dropped her GS3 and cracked the screen. The phone still works but I don't want her walking around with a ghetto ass cracked screen. I had to make the claim directly through T-Mobile instead of Asheron because when we purchased our GS3's the REP removed the insurance and they had to re-add it a couple weeks later. No problem making the claim but they told me that I had to ship the broken phone back to them. My question is....Do I really need to ship the broken phone back? What if she had lost the phone and didn't have a phone to ship back. What if we don't ship the phone back? What are they going to do?

They should send you the new phone first. And then your supposed to ship the old one back to them.

If the phone gets lost or stolen you have to pay a deductible. Don't quote me on that though. That's just how I remember it being a few years ago. And if you send the one with the broken screen back then they might charge you as well because you're the one that broke it. Like I said, that's how I remember it used to be. I don't know if it still works the same.
They send you a new or refurbished phone. Around a year ago I had a problem with my Galaxy S2, and they shipped me a new phone in less than 24 hours. I went through T-Mobile, not the insurance place. You get the phone in the mail and there are instructions on how you send the defective phone back. If you don't send the defective phone back, you will be charged full price for the Galaxy S3. Also, it has to be shipped back within 24 hours. In my opinion, it's a great deal. When I sent my GS2 back, I was told I could keep the battery, which was kick ass. Why wouldn't you want to send the phone back after the new one arrives?

That sounds like a warranty exchange and not an insurance claim.. when they do warranty swaps you keep the battery and back cover.

I had to pay a deductible of $130. What happens if she lost the phone? Would they charge you a higher deductible due to not being able to return a phone? The reason I ask is because I think it's silly that they want the broken phone back after I paid a deductible. They are going to ship the phone back to Samsung and then Samsung is going to replace the glass which I'm sure cost less than $130 so in the end, T-Mobile actually makes money off my deductible. I my wife were to lose the phone in the beginning then I would have no phone to return and I'm pretty sure T-Mobile would have charged me the same deductible. Maybe my wife just may have to lose the phone tomorrow within the next couple days or so.

Go ahead and tell them it's lost, but your imei will be blocked. And being you are changing your story, more than likely you will be investigated for insurance fraud.
Is it really worth it?

Thanks for committing fraud you guys. You rock!
Lol wanting to keep 2 phones how awesome!! You might get charge but more importantly your cracked phone will be a mp3 player. As other dude stated your IMEI will be block from your old phone. At the end of the day is not the company's fault that the phone drop but the person who did it, paying for insurance is not expensive.
believe I'm not defending them because they are money grabbing idiots either way, but your asking for wayyy too much.
