[Q] HTC One X from the UK, warranty in Germany - HTC One X

Hey guys,
Last year on the 20th April I bought my HTC One X at Carphone Warehouse in England. In May I have had the first problems with the phone (yellow spot in the lower left corner and a white spot in the middle of the screen), later the GPS stopped working.
Now I live in Germany and I received my HTC One today, so I finally want to get my One X repaired so I can sell it.
Does anyone know how to do this? Will the German warranty service repair my phone or will I have to send it to the UK?
I also don't have the original box of the phone as it is still in my flat in the UK. Is the phone alone in a basic box with a copy of my invoice enough or will they require the original box (because of the IMEI number on the box or these little stickers to proof it is indeed my phone)?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

There will probably be a charge like 30euro or something. I guess HTC Repair centre in Germany would know.

I had my X repaired couple of weeks ago here in Finland. It was bought from Sweden, but it didn't cost me anything to get it fixed. I took it to local shop that sells mobile phones, with copy of my invoice and without box, and it was fine.

I got my UK phone repaired in Finland as well without any hassle.
HTC has unified warranty inside EU.

Bad news? (if true)...

Hi
I ordered mine from Clove few days back, but yesterday luckily I got Desire on PAYG from Carphone Warehouse... So today I called Clove 2 cancel my contract, I just asked Sale Person that when r u guys getting ur stock now as CPW have unlocked stock? He said HTC will (directly) send them a bigger stock from mid-next-week...
And also he went on 2 say that Clove have been told from HTC that the unlocked stock from CPW have some software problem AND ANY ONE WHO GOT DESIRE FROM THEM MAY HAVE 2 RETURN IT BACK 2 THEM 2 B REPLACED WITH THE NEW DESIRE (which HTC will send them mid-next-week)...
I am worried 2 hear that because mine is PAYG on Orange from CPW & the CPW person said that Orange don't have phones return policy... So if this is true,,, are we (unlocked desire owners) in trouble???

worst case scenario they will flash the newer ROM to your desire, IMO (that is if there is anything wrong with it)
Mine works fine
Could be a bit of doublespeak from Clove, as they and other online sellers appear to be losing money hand over fist as people cancel their pre-orders and go to....yep, you guessed it, CPW! I'll worry when a bug is identified and appeares on my phone...
If there is a software fault then it would be fixed by an OTA update. Recall my arse.

Yea... quite agree-able point here. If HTC told them that CPW stock had some software issues they would definitely have told CPW 2 stop selling their current stock and wait 4 new stock from them 2 arrive (as selling problematic phones will harm HTC's name)....my point of view...

How much are cpw selling them pay as you go for!?
Even if there was a fault, CPW as the seller would be obliged to rectify for you by either updating te ROM, or replacing.

Mine arrived from CPW on Monday and I have only experienced issues with mobile network access.
Neither my old Vodafone nor my new T-Mobile SIMs can connect to 3G/HSDPA using any of the APN configurations pre-configured on the phone.
I have successfully got the Vodafone one working using settings from the internet, but am still to find working one for T-Mobile.
Another thing I noticed that was wrong was that when I selected T-Mobile in the setup wizard, a Virgin Mobile scene was added with the web browser home-page set to Virgin.
I am hoping that the replacement firmware will fix this but I will hang on to the phone and flash it myself when it becomes available.
Edd.
HA!
If there was really a problem it is likely HTC would have made it known to everyone, most likely it is a software issue, I don't think I've heard of HTC having bad hardware batches like Nokia so we should all be fine.

£399.99 + £10 topup = £410/-
Bull sh*t clame from Clove to put peoples off from CPW thats all.
Are the handsets from CPW network locked?
No! They use the same phones on any contract or PAYG or simfree sale.
When i first boo the phone it shows the update icon so i think it did an OTA update so if there was any problems it should be fixed
ok thanks, just a couple more questions;
Any network branding in the OS?
Is the software the pre-release software like on the t-mobile handsets?
Same 2 year warranty from HTC like when purchasing from Handtec?
AFAIK there has not been an OTA update released yet.

Thank you, cancelling my handtec order and on my way to cpw! (not in that order).
edit: just noticed it's the brown one, think I would rather wait for my graphite one from handtec.

Check this out to confirm, but I'm pretty sure that graphite == brown in this case.

Desire availabilty in Hong Kong?

Is the HTC Desire available in HK. I will be there from 12-14th of April and Im really hoping to get it then. The legend is already available but no news about the Desire.
Not sure but try either the top floor (entry level) of Wan Chai Computer centre or the places around Sham Shui Po. If you have never bought electronics from HK, you need to be aware that there are two prices - one for HK stock (usually pricer) and the other for grey imports from China and Japan. Warranty coverage for the latter is done by the shop, so if you have a problem you will have to send it back to that shop. That being said, HTC probably wont provide warranty coverage outside of the country of purchase (according to one of the other threads).
Thanks for the advice. My iPhone was bought in Shenzhen so no worries about warranty. I have been coming to HK since last 7 years on business. Buying most of my gadgets there. I was only concerned regarding availability of the phone in HK as cant see it mentioned anywhere in any of the forums or Google.
I've checked out WanChai just last night actually and there's no sign of the Desire.
Good news is, because of the current favorable exchange rate with the GBP, you can just do what I do. Order overseas from Clove! I'm expecting mine to arrive in HK on Monday. And even with shipping, it's cheaper than it would be when it goes on sale in HK.
A friend was 4 days ago in HKG and he found it somewhere in Kowloon.
Sorry, i've no more details and no price tag...

I will try to the same as I will be in Hong Kong a couple of days after you.
I have bought HTC devices several times in Hong Kong and never had any problems.
The computer stores in Wan Chai and Mongkok are your best bet. Look around though do a bit of bargaining.
keep us inforned.

I cant order it to HK as I will be there only for 3 days and also cant order to India as then too expensive after paying import taxes. N1 is around 4500HKD in Mong Kok if Desire is same price or lower it will be ideal. I will look around Mong Kok and Sham Shui PO. Also Kowloon ( Thanks to Atomicman). If found and bought I will inform on this forum immediately.
I've been looking around for the Desire in HK too, so far nothing. Most of the shops either say they don't know the release date, or "maybe next week", which is the typical answer when they have no idea.
The latest from the HK forums (using google translate) is that HTC HK has said they're not sure of an exact date, maybe in June. The consensus is that they want to give the Legend (out March 31st) some time to sell before releasing the Desire. I'm sure grey imports from the UK will start to show up soon, but at a premium.
Not sure if it'll be cheaper than the Nexus One, since you can get an N1 directly from Google for less than $4500, so their price in Mongkok just includes a small mark-up. The Legend is $4180, down to $3980 in some places, so I reckon the Desire will be at least $6-800 more than that to set it apart.
Based on all that info, I also ordered from Clove today.
@ohyeahar: when did you order yours? Do you have a DHL tracking number for it already?

Ordered on March 8. Already shipping. Expecting it on Monday.
So slim to zero chance of getting a desire in HK before 14th April? So what do you suggest I do buy the Legend or N1? Please advise as Im quite eager to buy an android phone now. I will be able to change it only after 6 months so have to live with whichever phone I buy till then.
ohyeahar if you feel like selling your Desire let me know ;-)
@sickboy888
I got your PM and was trying to reply, but you've disabled receiving of PM's. You might want to look into that.
Finally bought the Nexus One as couldn't find the desire and cant with for an android phone any longer. I'm in HK till 15th Morning so if any one knows of a definite place where desire is available here do let me know. I don't mind buying that as well. Can always sell my N1 on Ebay in India.
I bought my HTC Desire (UK) version at a shop in Tsuen Wan. It mainly deals online shopping for customers from mainland china but they also sell phones there. I just got mine there yesterday. See if they have any stocks left and you can get one there. The contact information below:
Rm2412, 24/F, Wing Hing Ind Building
83-93 Chai Wan Kok Street, Tsuen Wan
Tel:3583 2773
Rmb to mentioned I introduce you there hehe, as I will get extra discount when I buy ipad there next time.

Congrats! How much did you get it for?
$4380
Well to TBH you can buy it at Clove at a cheaper price...but what happens if your phone breaks down ? You won't be buying a round trip ticket to UK to just fix your phone... (Rmb the warranty for HTC UK is 2 years !!)
They include a one time FREE deliver service to UK center to repair the machine...and afterwards they charge you $200 only.
Just like ordinary HKers time is important...hehe

That's a good price actually. If you consider the price difference between the Legend and Desire in UK and that the Legend's retail price in HK is 4199, I'd expect the Desire to cost about 4389.
That is a good price considering the phone isn't available in the usual shops in HK.
Regarding the warranty, according to the spec on Clove the phone comes with a 2 year International warranty, so if anything goes wrong you should be able to get HTC HK to take care of it, right?

[Q] Anyone had a replacement phone from Orange UK?

Yesterday, I took my beloved Desire HD into an Orange shop, after a touchscreen failure and the guys there and in India over the phone agreed to replace it. They said it would be delivered today (A sunday) between 9am and 1pm. Nothing was delivered. Has anyone had a replacement phone from Orange UK, and if so, how long was the delivery time?
Sent from my D255 using XDA App
I'm with Orange UK but haven't had any issues so no replacement.
Delivery on a sunday is very uncommon, that might have been a mistake or miscalculation of working days? If it hasn't arrived tomorrow give them a ring and ask about what's happened.
http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/contacting-us/paym
I have had 3 replacements, each time it has been a weekday so I would imagine it would be tomorrow morning in the time slot you mentioned.
I have to say tha Orange's insurance is really good with a speedy service. Unfortunately im on my third replacemet and they are not willing to change my handset, which is allegedly their police.
What does the courier need to take back?
Anyone know what bits and bobs I need to hand over when the courier arrives?
thanks in advance...

Well, mine has just arrived You need to just give him the phone, no battery, no sim, no sd. BUT YOU NEED THE COVERS And also, if it's not come, phone Orange and check your address. That's why mine didn't arrive. They had 8 rather than 8B for my address

out of warranty charges

hi,
im hesitant to buy the HOX international version because the grey market importers and HTC will void the warranty period (for root users)
1. Any idea how much HTC will charge for out of warranty period?
2. in the US (preferably Chicago), what are the alternative and trusted smartphone service online or store shop that offer repair service for HOX International version?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA
Get it from an online retailer that accepts returns. If you notice it has problems return in. If it does not have any problems within the accepted return period then I doubt it will have in the long run. HTC accepts to repair the one x even if u live in chicago and bought it in the green market, imean grey market
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
thanks for your reply but i think a rooted h1x will be in an out of warranty charges repair service. example is screen damage, liquid spill and drop.
basically, im kind of asking how much would be the possible charge price?
iphone 4s out of warranty charge price is $ 199
i wish HTC America has good customer service repair for international purchased device

Not sure but the HTC warranty should stand if not.

My one x is from Vodafone Spain so I'm not sure if my case applies to you, but I didn't even had to send HTC the invoice, the woman from HTC told me that you either send the invoice or they'll check the imei for the manufacturing date, since the one x is less than two years old (two years warranty is mandatory in Spain by law) my phone will qualify for warranty repair just with the imei.

Best thing you can do is call them and ask them.

You do need the original purchaser to return to Vodafone. The sales contract was not with you. However, you'll likely have no problem returning to htc under warranty.
