Here is what ive been going through.
First month was great. 5mbps dl 1mbps ul
Ran countless speedtests (which ran up my data usage)
Last two days of the month roll up. And im getting throttled. 300kbps dl. COMEON!!!!
2 more months roll buy. Watching my data usage. Just fine.
Next month I hit the softcap again. Gets reduced. I called to ask when I will be restored to normal data speeds. They said when you start your next month service. So I wait.
Next month comes. No change. Still getting 300kbps tops. Called and complained and asked for the supervisor. She spoke english like its her 3rd language. Proceeded to tell me that there is still a flag or "flash" as they call it on my account.
HOW?!?!
They said that I have violated their section 6 and 7 blah blah blah "abnormal usage"
Thats impossible. I never recieved normal data speeds after the new service start. So there is no way I hit the soft cap even if I tried.
Losts of going back and forth about how I used too much this month already. When I started my month a few days ago. Mind you, my note says ive used 13mb from the start.
After 2 hours of bickering and them telling me they cant reset it, I gave up and she said wait till the 24th and service will be restored to normal.
Now to march 24/2013 I refill and wait for my service to resume normal speeds. ...... waiting.......waiting..... 3 days roll by. Nothing. Still getting 300kbps.
I called and complained that for two months I have renewed and was told it would be back to normal. I am outraged at this point because I have a flag on my account.
WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
This is ridiculous. I have lost my patience. I told the supervisor that I will file a complaint with the bbb if he cant help. I know they really cant do anything but I just want answers. I just keep getting fold, wait till the next service month.
Ive had it.
So I called att since thats the network maybe they can help reset my data. No luck. At least chris was american and understanding. He pointed me to Tracfone (which is what ST is a part of)
After explaning this story with countless people I was hoping this one will actually do something.
She said she will transfer me to the technical support dept who have the tools to help me out.........hold please.......
Ring ring.......ring ring.......

I had straight talk for almost a year using ATT sim, just yesterday I decided to go with T-mobile's 2 line family plan. One line is unlimited and the other is 2.5gb, I havent had any complaints using T-mobile in my area but I was throttled a couple of times with ST. I just called them and explained my speed slowed down and they just reset it. The reason I switched from ST to T-mobile is the data cap. I now have LTE on my GN2 and pretty satisfied with it. ST with the ATT sim was pretty solid but the "unlimited data" is just actually "unlimited web".
it works fine for me i paid for a year of service and so far i never had any issues
i dont use a lot of data tho so maybe thats why for what i paid 500$ for a whole year nothing beats that deal if t mobile comes out with a deal like that ill swtich but untell then straight talk works just fine for me
now i will agree there customer service in india is ****ing stupid
I used to have tmo with a contract years ago but had to switch because of coverage. Now I moved and I want back with them. Their coverage might not be great but at least their customer service is great

Although I have Straight Talk and love, it why don't you try Net 10, as long as your not going over there 1.5 gb cap you'll be good. If Straight Talk ever starts messing with me that will be my next option. T-Mobile is showing promise but my past experience with them is dictating my current decision to not go with them.
Hate to say, but you know the old saying, "you get what you pay for"... you're paying for cheap service, everything else comes along with it.
Cheap... hahaha.. your funny... I get speeds like this all day every day. The only thing cheap is the amount I pay...

And what carrier did you go to.
I had Straight Talk via an E71 SIM for over 2 years. It was GREAT at first. I used 2-4gb a month. Last 6 months I started getting throttled EVERY month. It started at 2.5-3gb then it dropped to 2GB then it dropped to 1.5GB. The last month and last straw it dropped to 1GB over 25 days of service then I was throttled again. I saw the writing on the wall and switched to real AT&T and have had them for the last 2.5 months with LTE. The LTE is good WHEN it works right but I think the area I'm in is way oversold. It works great at night but during the day it can be SLOWER than the regular 3.5G is at the same time of day. I have 5GB of data to use HOWEVER I like, and I think it's worth twice the price for that.

I know it seems like a lot but read the terms and conditions of any unlimited data carrier and it says if you use to much data they will throttle you or cancel you. Even t mobile truly unlimited data is the same way. To guarantee having fast or even service at all you need to get a tiered plan.

I switched to T-Mobile about 3 months ago, from At&t. I had been with them I would say 7yrs. Att has no doubt the best coverage and I do miss the coverage. Now with T-Mobile I get 10 to13 mbps dl. and 2 to 4mbps up. and coverage is decent and it great at my house. im so far satisfied with Tmobile. I hope the competition do force the other carriers to have pricing similar to tmobile.

WE have been duped by Sprint people. Go to their website and you will notice the announcement of the iPhone 4Gs. You can even pre order it. This privilege was not given for the Samsung Galaxy S 2 ET4G.
Why...was this you say...it's obvious that Sprint knew it had made a deal to buy a **** load of IOS devices to secure this deal with Apple.so they didn't promote the galaxy ET4g. Now they have a big announcement tomorrow. They are going out of their way to let you pre order the iPhone as well.
Sad, and yes I feel they used us to get this deal, by canceling all perks, while giving us crappy service. My Photon has a red circle and no service, and I don't have a ET4G yet. Service has been terrible most of the summer all over NY and in mid town NYC.
If service was being interrupted to better service I may stick around, but not getting signal, failed messages, and paying for it and no credit with lies is unacceptable. Not being able to pre-order the phone I wanted because they made a deal with Crapple is also unforgivable. Price isn't the only thing that matters in a business relationship. It's I pay for service and expect to have it when I want it, not when you decide to give it.
Hell I was told by a customer service rep that I should be happy because I have had a lot of usage on my line. I then said yes that is true, but when I need my service to work it failed to deliver....I missed important calls. and meetings with people because of failed service.
People were telling me when they called the phone rang 3x's and hung up no message was able to be left. Others told me that they would get a network busy message please try again later. One rep verified this condition of calling me, and could not get through. The phone rang 3x's and the line just went dead when they called. I have been to tech centers, and have made many battery pulls, and software reboots, and finally I was told that there was a net work issue and they did not know when it would be cleared. Now when I call to talk about it they put me on hold no music and never come back to talk.
I just don't see it getting better, and when the next generation of phones IE Prime or what ever hits Verizon, and this is not cleared I am gone. When I feel I have to beg for service, or a credit for not receiving service after paying my bills for 15 years, and at one point having a $300 a month phone bills for business it's time to go.
My bill analysis shows that I average 240 msg a month, and average about 2g of data a month, and since I use my phone mostly for calls a Verizion 69.00 phone plan with 10 data, and 10.00 for data equals what I am paying now. So if this doesn't clear with the loss of perks I am outta here.lol
My service is better than ever...by far too. I never saw over 8Mbps download speed in Los Angeles on 4G and now....

Enjoy the larger bill on Verizon. It fast and rather reliable
Life is too short to complain on services you are not happy about. Great thing about America is that we have three major carriers
The sprint network can't compete with Verizon in "most" areas,
Can I have your phone when you leave? I've got a line with no phone....

When sprint cancelled premiere the writing was on the wall. It was on your august bill statement. In addition, sprint raised the admin fee by 50cents which invalidated every contract. Also on your bill statement.
Then sprint raised ETF from $200 to $350. Then they changed 30 day phone trials to 14 days. All this in september.
I am here on this board with an E4GT because of these changes - I had to get my final premiere upgrade prior to 10/2/2011. Otherwise I was fully planning on just waiting another month for nexus prime.
Now the E4GT has serious radio issues. Like OP, I had calls go to voicemail for hours at a time. Others have LOS, dropped calls, no signal bars, phone refuses to roam, etc.
Sprint's CEO said that 54% of sprint customer churn is due to not having an iphone. Thats a pretty hard fact to not pay attention to.
It is clear sprint is putting all eggs in one basket - the iphone basket. Sprint has lost money for 15 straight quarters. This will either save sprint or ruin sprint.
I've been with sprint 10 years now, and im no iphone fan. THe writing is on the wall: We'll let you keep your android devices and stay on our network, but we really don't care about you now. Of course I knew all this over a month ago and I was still willing to sign a 2 year contract in september for the Epic 4g touch. That was before all the LOS issues arose.
We'll see what the next 2 years brings. But the days of customer loyalty perks, retention plans, etc are clearly over.
I just switched from verizon to sprint, so I can give you a good preview of what to expect.
First of all, the service is top notch, and the lte speeds were incredible - I regularly got over 20 mbps in my area, many times close to 30. Of course, keep in mind that their lte service is fairly new, and at the time they only had 3 expensive phones that could use it, so that will likely change as more people upgrade and the network gets saturated.
So why did I leave this awesome service? Price. Everything across the board is way more expensive - service and phones. I paid $50 more for a Droid Charge than I did for my E4GT, and that phone isn't even in the same league. For our family plan with unlimited text, only 700 minutes, 2 data plans and 2 other phones, it was $230 a month. Our kids wanted smartphones too, but to add 2 more data plans would have put our bill up to $300. I'm not broke, but not rich either, and that cost is pretty hard to justify.
Also, keep in mind that all those policies Sprint just changed are the same policies Verizon has - 14 day return, $350 etf (even after being way overcharged on the phones up front), and no more New Every Two program.
The only carrier I've found with good pricing and great coverage (in my area) is Tmo, and I almost jumped to them, but no way in hell I want to risk being an att customer again.

Amen. I am tired of flipping on Roam Control and dealing on 1x every time I enter a building. What good is unlimited 3g if it is slow as molasses, and 4g which is spotty and hardly ever works indoors? At this point, I am off contract and if Prime comes to VZW and is not full of bloat I may be gone.

It doesn't really matter if it has bloat where cause you can root the stock rom and use titanium backup to remove it all. Its super easy to do

I am not just talking 3g/4G.....I get a red circle with a line almost daily. I have been missing calls. getting network busy try back later errors, and not receiving calls for hours a day. I missed getting calls with 4-5 bars in mid town Manhattan, and people told me the phone just rang 3 times and stopped ringing with no option to leave a voice mail. Others were told to "try back later network busy". This can only get worse if iPhone is coming. I am not the only one experiencing this issue the Sprint online community is filled with this same complaint.

Nope, it is the same price. You can go on and pre-order to see the pricing.
[I win after all after a call to retention][see further down for new developments] Each month I get my data throttled, I have to spend an hour or so on the phone until they'll open a service request ticket for some upper level honcho to press a button and clear up the problem in 5 minutes.
This time I upgraded my data plan to 10GB, but the throttle would not release. After the hour of my dealing with script following drones, a higher level support tech asked me what kind of phone I had. When I replied Galaxy Nexus, she gleefully replied that "our contract with you states we don't have to support 3G for you since you didn't buy one of our [crappy over priced phones] from us. In fact, I'm supposed to disable your 3G service. Even if you have a iPhone 4S." (Um... WHAT? iPhone? Now you're just trying to insult me.)
Just when I thought all hope was lost, my mobile muse rescued me with divine inspiration. "Oh really?" I smirked, "I just stuck my SIM card in my wife's T-Mobile Sensation™ and I'm still getting throttled. Can you support me now, biatch?"*
...
"Why yes sir, I'll be happy to open up that ticket right away... Let us know when service is actually restored and we'll comp you for the throttled coverage."
LAWYERED!
* DISCLAIMER: I did not actually say biatch

I got the usual, "Your service request will be processed within the next 3 business days" reply. Apparently when I upgraded, they failed to remove the 5GB red flag on my account. Generally, my service requests go through the first business day. As I called on Saturday, I expect they'll get to it today... At least that's what usually happens.
Incidentally, they let me upgrade to 10GB for $40/month for three months, and threw in T-Mobile hot spots (whatever those are). It took me three phone calls of hemming and hawing before I got offered this, but it's there.
Nice superior intellect overcomes corporate bull crap I love it
Tmobile customer service might not be stellar but it's usually better than most other carriers.
Don't confuse the poor customer service reps with red flags like I'm using a device not sold/supported by Tmobile.
Just tell them you're using a phone that they sell/support and keep the distractions to a minimum.
This isn't a T-Mobile problem, its more of a problem with American carriers in general. They're wary to have to do anything involving a device they "don't support". Its unfortunate but kinda how it is.
Just keep on doing your thing. May I suggest going prepaid? You won't get good CS with an unlocked phone anyway, might as well not pay for it.
How do you know when you’re being throttled? I have their 5GB plan, but never use that much.

When you hit 5GB, you'll receive a pop up and/or SMS telling you you're being throttled for the rest of the period.
Your data speeds will also reduce to about that of EDGE, topping out at about .5mbps down / up. The icon in your status bar will still say 3G or H and you'll keep low ping times, but the speeds will be reduced.
I got sick of T-Mo and switched to StraightTalk prepaid. $45 per month for unlimited everything and I have yet to be throttled.

That's because Straight Talk doesn't throttle. They just cancel your service lol. And they do it a lot sooner than 5GB.
I agree Straight Talk is a great deal, but it's not the same as T-Mo when it comes to data. T-Mo is 100% up-front about when they will throttle you, and they'll never cut your data off or charge overages.

Yep. In about 15 months as a T-Mobile customer I've only gone over 5gb maybe 2-3 times, but only actually been throttled once. That one time I was throttled, I was notified instantly.

Yeah i don't understand this either. They are so worried about getting you to get one of "their" phones. Even if your not using their phone, your still paying for their service. You buy a phone from them, they get a few hundred in profit one time. But if they provide good service, they don't need to rely on selling you a phone because they'll be making money on the service they're selling you. I guess the carriers forget that they are providing a service, it doesn't matter what you use the service on they should support it.

Funny I had the complete opposite happen to me I called T-Mobile about slow data issue when I was in Las Vegas two weeks ago. The tech guy I talked to was real helpful and knew the GNex and was more than happy to help me. His biggest worry was that I called from my GNex and that if for some reason we would get cut off. But everyone has different outcomes when dealing with customer service. I will say that T-Mobile is light years ahead of Sprint, they just suck.

So I'm still throttled. I called back today and they now say that no matter what, they cannot lift the throttle until the end of the billing cycle. They WERE, of course, happy to take my money to backdate a data plan increase, however. How sleazy.
I call this utter and complete bull****. As a programmer and dba, I refuse to believe it's impossible to lift a throttle before the end of the cycle.
I'm now being held hostage to creeping data by my contract.
Screw you, T-Mobile.

It is definitely BS. They did it for me when I upgraded to the 5GB plan.
I am moving on to at&t due to data issues but that is not what this is about. This is no "Woe is me!" Farewell to all even though I am no dev and NO ONE CARES! No my friends! This s a big ups to the devs for the time effort and intelligence which is way beyond mine own. You all are amazing and I thank you for the late nights. Thank you for dealing with the 'where's the leak”, “where’s the update" oh and my personal favorites "where's the tar" and or "how is the battery" You do this for the love of the game and deal with so much. You do this for free (donations excepted) even though you have families and other jobs.
You are Mother f'n Rockstars and I hope to see devs like you on the other side.
Peace!
AT&T is great. My sister has them, and I talk to her at least 5 times a week. Granted it happens all in the span of 20 minutes before she gets frustrated and says she'll call later, but you can't say we never talk.

Yea leaving is ok if that's what you want to do but there are so many no contract places to go now I don't think if I leave I will be under contract with anybody else. Especially since AT&T has H2o and your AT&T phone can be placed on their service for half the price. My fam has Simple Mobile which is T-Mobile and honestly his data kills mine and its rather embarrassing. He even gets 4g indoors all for $60 flat a month....
Also not being on Contract will help you jump ship to a company if they come up with a phone you like... Jus Sayin' but good luck out there
I bought this phone specifically to get away from at&t..
Have fun with your 2GB data cap.

I love the ET4G and hated leaving but in my area it was piss poor service. Unlimted data is cool if you can use the data. Mine was that bad. I got the top dog set up with AT&T and due to my discount from work I am paying less so thats cool too.
Like I said props goes outtothe devs for making this devise awesome. Was hoping they would be the one to see this not some clowns who jump down throats because a person who has been with Sprint for 10 years is forced to another carrier due to bad service. BTW my speeds are crazy fast and no dropped signal so that is cool too.
I think that it is a good point though about service providers who you can go with and save. I am month to month now with AT&T thanks to MS for the free phone. BTW Windows Phone is whack. But it does buy me time to look around for otheer options.
Just so you know adding discount (FAN) to account will put you in a two year contract. Make sure you understand before it is too late to get out.

That is no good. I will look into asap. Thank you for the heads up.
I've been with Sprint for a while now. Lately i've had a lot of complaints that people can't get to me. My girlfriend never gets notified when she gets a voicemail.
It takes us 3-4 times to dial any number.I've been missing important call for the last 2 months. One of them including my grandfather passing away.
It's really bad at my work. No signal at all and always roaming. I cannot continue to use this service.
I've called customer support and they told me that they are aware that a lot of people have had missed calls since March when they started rolling out the network vision upgrade. So for the last months I can get at least 4 people that have the same problem. Nothing is getting resolved and it seems nobody cares.
I took my phone in to get it check out by a tech and there is nothing wrong with it. Since I know of at least 4 other persons experiencing this, I'm sure now that this is not an issue with me.
What I am asking is why do I need to keep paying for a service that I cannot rely on? I have missed important calls, one of them regarding a family member passing away. I can barely make any calls. The data is really slow, pathetic. I cannot count on the Sprint network to do any of the basic functions that I am paying for.
I have tried to call Sprint to get any type of conpenssation or to get them to let me move but they keep telling me that it will all be better.
Anyone got any suggestions. I cannot stay with a company that is responsible for missing the last call i might have gotten from my granfather.

Selling my phones to pay an EFT because of spotty service is not justifiable.
If it has been driving you crazy which it seems to have since you miss important calls. Go with Verizon which will probably solve all your problems.
And you said it yourself that you cannot stay with a company that gives you problems so go to another company that will satisfy you
How does that not solve your problem.

You not being happy in no way entitles you to get out of a contract fee free. Network vision is supposed to dramatically increase usability and from what I've read from people it has. For every four people you know that's having service issues I can guarantee there's a hundred who don't. You're on a website with information on different things to try to fix any possible problem. If you truly don't like the service suck it up and pay the etf
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I think the OP is asking what the suggested method is for convincing Sprint that he should not have to pay any fees to terminate service because essentially Sprint is not upholding their side of the contract. In other words, what is the procedure for claiming breach of contract on Sprint? And yes, breach of contract is a legal means to get out of a contract without being obligated to pay any fees and sometimes is enough to get rewarded compensation for those months that you were paying for and not receiving service.
I'm in mostly the same boat as the OP but fortunately the only thing I ever use is text messaging and data through wifi so it doesn't bother me that I can't make or receive calls at work or home much less get any kind of data at either location besides wifi. For the most basic of plans, Sprint charges me less than Verizon would which is why I moved to them but it is a bit disappointing to have a phone where 1/2 of the features (arguably the more important 1/2) don't work.

If they are aware of a problem in your area with service and have no eta u can cancel with no etf. When sprint Renegotiated its deals with Verizon and the coverage shrank in certain areas I know for a fact they let 100's if not thousands of people cancel freely so I see this as no different
Edit: if u get no where with regular csr pm me for the number for executive services they will let u cancel for sure with no etf

In my book i cannot stay with Sprint out of principle. Because of them my phone never ringed when my grandfather called me on the night before he died.
My eft after talking to a representative is only 100$.
It should be zero if your phone doesn't work.
Sprint cost me $300 dollars a few weeks ago. Good like trying to get anything out of them.

You might want to voice up on sprint forums rather than on XDA, there are few sprint employees here.
Or put your phone up on MP if its a epic touch for example post it cheap around $150-175 for a quick sell and use that money if they do end up charging you $100.

There was a cell site that covered my gf's old workplace and the bowling alley across the street we bowled at that was a data black hole for years. I don't know if it's improved but we don't go there anymore. There are just some buildings that are horrible for rf penetration. The moment you step outside, you get service and signal. There's always the possibility that there's some electronics or machines in the building that are creating interference in the frequency band these phones operate in.

Other than contacting customer service there probably isn't much more than can be done. If I were him I would restrict data usage on as many apps that I could in the data usage settings. 300gb is an awful lot to go unnoticed. I'm on a 4 gig plan with three shared lines and we only use around 500mb a month combined. 300gb is about as insane as the $2500.00 bill. Hopefully customer service will help.
300gb everyone most go to sleep at night streaming music that's unreal I'm on 15 gb plan with 5 line and we use close to 11gb every month but never exceed the 15g and I go hard with YouTube ,Beats Music, streaming Movies ,etc
Yea, I thought it was a ton too, he says no mobile hot spot was used or anything like that. He says Customer service isn't budging so I don't know what his history with them has been either?
Beyond the fact that 300gb seems like an unbelievably high amount, didn't he notice when he upgraded the the new phone that his plan was completely changed as well in the ordering process? Also, Verizon emails and texts me when I am at half of my data for the billing period and I don't recall ever having to voluntarily sign up for such notifications. Did he miss those too? I think it may be hard to get out of those charges. Tell him to lawyer up to see if they can at least lower the amount and pay it off over time.
I'm going to be honest I don't know how that possible... I think Verizon screwed up some how. The wife and I both have unlimited plans, the most I've ever seen in one month is 46gb on her line and I had 23gb on my line. My wife watches Netflix all day 40hrs a week at work, uses spotify for her tunes while driving, and watches uverse movies at home using her phone. Here best so far is 46gb so I don't even see how it's possible to get there. We are in excellent 4g lte areas, and we I say my wife watches 40hrs a week at work, I mean 40hrs. She got through breaking bad all seasons in one week.
Yeah that's crazy...I had T-Mobile unlimited (god I miss T-Mobile) and I was switching ROMs at least once or twice a day clean flashing at that..plus ShowBox and Milk Music on HD...talking TW ROMs and CM based stuff...any time there was an update to anything I updated...still the max I ever used was 50gb...
Hmm, ok thanks for the input, I'll relay all this!

Verizon won't budge on lowering the bill since it's not a mistake or guilt that happened on their end. If you can prove that it was a false count of data charges or find someone higher than just a customer service rep through the phone like a district manager or higher than a DM. Those are you only choices...
Pornhub HD is a mother f'er!
Really though he should be able to have them check records for other use. Emailing executive escalations will also help. Not hard to find VzW board or director and three letter job title people to carpet bomb them.
300GB isn't normal but when you have dip****s running around forums bragging about how they used X amount of terabytes and crap.... Well it takes ammo away for these types of cases.
Best of luck to him.
Oh and something to tell the friend. Never except a no from someone who can't say yes. Standard customer service reps have something like 100 dollar OCC (credit) limit. So they really can't tell him yes. That high will have to go to the director or higher. Ask to get their supervisor, AD, and Director info and escalate accordingly.
300gb? Lol. I haven't racked up that much since downloading a 2gb file over and over on Sprint's roaming network a long time ago after they pissed me off.
Anyway... 300gb? Lol...
I've used 98gb trying to use data. 300 gb would seem like tether was running while a computer had utorrent, etc running. :

Also just a fyi. If he did come from an unlimited plan he can get what's called a legacy data package. Which is 6 gigs a month instead of 2 for the same price. He just needs to tell the Verizon rep

300gb, wow! I had a buddy move into a new apartment which had free internet, yet it sucked. He also bought a new computer, so he had to redownload several games(WoW maybe, and other), plus their updates, plus all the time he spends playing them. This was all done via tethering. I think he hit like 230gb for the month, and I thought that was insane.
What does your friends screenshot of his "data usage" show? it breaks it down by app. Unless he was tethering which is probably what he isnt telling you then it wouldnt show up.
It's really not that unreal. My friend on T-mobile uses like 80GB a month and he just "uses" his phone, nothing crazy. If I was on T-Mobile I'd probably be pushing a TB a month as a power user.
As for your friend, if I were him I'd tell Verizon to blow me and just never pay the bill and switch carriers.

What I've seen when getting a new phone or a phone that has been freshly wiped, data usage alert goes off at 2gb. Did your friend turn this off? If so, did he know he no longer had unlimited data?
As for data usage, I went through 110gb in about 2 weeks not on purpose, Google Music kept trying to sync my music and would stop mid stream and then start over.
He should have received about 5 data usage warnings before he went over.
If he really used all that data, then there's no reason he shouldn't have to pay for it.

It's pretty easy to go to the Verizon Wireless site and put alerts on data usage. It will inform you at 50%, 75%, 90% and 100%. Not doing so is negligent and one probably gets what one deserves.
