My little sister bought my old htc desire, it has always functionned perfectly. It has the screen replaced 10 months ago with a cheaper non-htc/original screen. It appeared more brownish but as functionned perfectly ever since (and seems like it has some self-repearing capabilities).
Now 2 days ago my sister let mee see the phone and the screen was totally white. (Actually with some vertical lines visible with a wood-like texture). With the screenshot/monitor tool in the SDK it appears that in the background the screen is rendering normally.
Today I tried to boot the phone and some werid atefacts showwed up. Some parts are now readable and when you look closely you can see the structures on the screen.
Can someone tell me what this is and what is the cause of it?
It looks not good. In my opinion its non iryginal screen is dead.

P.S. might be half detached wire connecting the screen with the board, or a broken screen...

Hello,
I have an S620 running WM6.1. Everything has worked well for ages, but for no apparent reason today the screen "crashed" and is 90% white noise (like a TV with the antenna cable pulled out).
I tried a cold boot which seemed to work, but when I then shutdown and put the SIM back in and re-started - no dice. Back to WHite noise. I have subsequently tried a few more cold boots but all I get now is the top 10 % of the screen shows the green windows startup logo all squashed up.
The wierd thing is the phone itself appears to still work - but the screen is useless.
Can anyone offer any help ?
thanks
ur screen seems to be cracked.. u need to replace a new one
You can easily get a cheap on off ebay and then there is a youtube video that demonstrates to you how to install a new screen. Its fairly simple and cheap.
but if ur gettin the dream jus wait and dnt wrry
ok, thanks for this guys. Its a bit strange that its a cracked screen as I haven't dropped the phone and it looks in perfect condition from the outside. I did wonder if perhaps the internal ribbon cable might have fractured somehow or become loose.
I will crack the phone open and have a fiddle !
If anyone else has any thoughts I#d much appreciate it.
The phone isn't worth much but I really like it. I even handed back a Nokia E90 communicator (which I personally think is crap) to my company because I prefer the 620 with WM6.1.
Hi,
My previous P3300 was dead due to some strange lines that changed colour, just like some ink inside or something, I think the display was broke inside, outside the glass was perfect, it lasted about 3-4 years.
Then I bought a second hand P3300, same problem, suddenly strange moving lines with smeared ink inside after 3 years and dead.
GSM reception light did still flash, battery inside phone loaded as usual, only the display inside was stuck, so game over again...
Does anyone have or had the same problems with previous p3300's ???
Maybe i'm going to buy another HTC type for the third time!
Cheers,
Innovator
I had my P3300 screen shattered once (bumped into a table with the phone in my trousers front pocket) but the phone still worked OK anyways. My main issue was that the "touch" property of the screen was lost and working in mouse mode sucks.
I bought me a new HTC/Dopod screen from eBay for about 20 euros, received it by snail mail at home and had it replaced for free by a friend who's an electronic technician, no need to buy a new phone.
...but it doesn't hurt to ask. I got an old first-day-out DInc that I was using for streaming music (hasn't been a phone in a while). Roughly a year ago, it took a half dip in a toilet. When that happened, my screen started having a blue tint occasionally but I could bend it slightly and the pressure would snap it back. Long story short, never smart to do that to inflexible items, duh. That stopped working a few months ago and I was stuck with a blue tinted screen. This morning I got two bright lines and a screen freeze, so I pulled the battery and restarted and voila! Nothing but a white line and/or the Matrix and when it boots into the OS, the system bar is in the middle of the screen and it doesn't work.
I attached a photo and I was wondering if anyone had any idea about what part could be at fault and if it's even remotely worth it to try and fix it?
Thanks!
Hi, maybe someone have encouter similar issue and have and could comfirm if there could be anything else i could do except replacing whole lcd+touch, which cost pretty much same as new unit
My my screen is showing some weird artefacts on screen, at first there is not much but its getting worse after few muniutes of use. If i lock and unlock the device i show white light bleed on left side of the screen (first picture) then if i lock again, wait for a while it disappears, but some artefacts and color pixel start to show on left side (second pic). After a while some strong white lines apear, always in the some spot, but if i put down the device for few minutes it desappers. Reattaching battery didn't help, i guess thats not the case. Could this be a faulty LCD connector? Or the screen is dying.. ? Definitly not a software bug, i just upgraded to 6.0 and even in bootloader mode while upgrading there were those two lines (last pic)
What screen brightNess do you use. It's recommended to use 20% to avoid screen burn in

Hmm.. since i usually use the tablet in bright locations its probably set to higher then 50%, at least..
There is one more thing, after like 10 minutes of use, almost all the above issues stops, only thing that stays is the "burned like" vertical stripes, barely visible, on about 2/3 of the screen.
I does not make the table unusable but its quite annoying...
could this be affect of screen burn in ?
i think its just a bad screen from a begining cuz i have tab s 8.4 for almost 2 years now and i gave it to my brother for a year and he was in Tenerife...temperatures there are high so i doubt its a screen burn since my tablet is still ok even after one year at Tenerife with probably brightnes always on 100%...just sharing my xperiance cheers guys
Wondering if anyone has any advice on something, plus I'd like to make some observations on a common problem. I dropped my phone about 4 months ago from about 3 feet up, in the cold (around 5C). Since then, I've had vertical lines appearing on my screen as in this post (https://www.asus.com/zentalk/thread-70061-1-1.html). Only difference is the lines don't extend all the way up the screen. There is about an inch at the top where the screen is normal. I have a few observations about the issue:
- It does not appear to be a broken screen. I replaced the screen/digitizer/frame assembly with another (used one), and it worked at first, but developed the same symptoms after a few days, out of the blue (did not drop).
- I can coax the screen to act fairly normally if I display a mostly white screen (either by inverting colors, or by setting a white background/opening a white app, etc)
- After a certain amount of time with a "mostly white" screen, I can revert to a dark screen and it seems to act normally and display dark colors again/can see everything on screen (not always though).
- When it's funky, I can see a vertical line about an inch from the top that flickers - above it, the screen is normal, below the screen is funky (vertical lines)
- It happens randomly, as in it will work normally, I will shut off the screen, and when I turn it back on, it's funky again.
- Weather/heat/cold appears to have no impact on it.
- This occurs during boot and in TWRP recovery, so it's not caused by software (doesn't seem like it's ROM dependent, by the way, I'm on CM 13.0), perhaps by bootloader which is common for everything that runs on the phone?
From these observations, it seems like it's not the screen that's the issue but rather the board the screen connects to (inside the phone, top board with the camera/volume attached to it). Does this seem right? I can't figure out why the screen would work when mostly white is displayed. I had a theory earlier that perhaps a (nano/micrometer sized) crack developed on the transparent conductor used to build the TFTs that drive the individual pixels - that would seem to make sense of the "white". As the lower pixels are driven, sufficient voltage/current is supplied to bridge the very small crack that occurred, leading to a (mostly) normally working screen. However that would have been fixed by replacing the screen, so it doesn't seem like that's the case.
I see two possibilities:
- The board that connects to the display has something that cracked/shorted like I mentioned above and sufficient voltage/current bridges the crack
- OR The second LCD is also broken - however this doesn't seem to be the case as the screen worked perfectly for a couple days. I haven't had the screen work for that long since this happened.
So, what are everyone's thoughts? I'm out of warranty. I could try replacing the board or just get a new phone. Or perhaps someone else has some insight...
