Hey guys,
First post here,
i was searching around for my problem, and i haven't found an accurate answer so thought to share my problem and hopefully find an answer.
i am from Canada, Edmonton, and i am with Rogers.
First problem,
i run CM 10.1 and Most the NIGHTLY updates they were butter smooth and works great, until Update number CM-10.120130317 till the current update. All the updates i download, my phone freezes LOT! example of how it freezes , i try to unlock my phone, it freezes . I try to write something it freezes . and sometimes when its on sleep it freezes i can't turn the screen on again! so i always downgrade to CM-10.120130316 to have that stable ROM.
I did the wipe date /factory reset from the ROM manager, and wipe cache and dalvik. and yet the problem is not solve.
So my question is, dose anyone facing the same problem? or it's just me?
Second Problem
am having this beyond annoying notification, where it says my message has not been sent! but my message get's sent and all acts normal. But i always get notification and its never gone. I have screen shoot the problem. Is there a way i can fix this? i've have attached in the thread.
if you guys have any questions or want me to provide some information please do ask.
Looking forward to hear the feedback.
Cheers,
for starts, you're running nightlies and you need to remember that. i'm not an advocate of these, but thats just my opinion. you generally cant run a non-perfected piece of software and repeatedly dirty flash layers of updates on top. you will generally begin to experience bugs that can only be fixed with a full wipe and clean install.
that being said, i would either 1) commit to these cm10.1 nightlies and perhaps even just stick with 1 of them thats working well for you or 2), find a stable 4.1 or 4.2 rom and install after a full wipe. backup first.
There's a warning that these builds are unstable and use them at your own risk. I use cm10.1 20130317 build and it is extremely stable. A few quirks but nothing major. I plan on sticking with it since the 3.4 kernel on the newer nightlies isn't optimized yet, which result is lower battery life.

assuming you have a stable backup to rely on, i would wipe data/factory rest, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and reflash either your current update or (preferably) the one you were running with no problems before. perhaps flash the one listed by a user above that seems to be running well

and you tried flashing a different (previous) version of cm10.1 when you did that? there's always a full wipe. that includes formatting /system in recovery.
flash = install.

Interesting.. i have got an idea i will try to do it hopefully by tonight or tomorrow. and i will share the results.
i was thinking to manually download the latest update nightlies instead of my phone update it for me, and then do the wipe thing and then i install it manually, maybe that will fix my problem.
am using G cloud for my backup and it dose his job pretty well. I wanted to use the Titanium backup but it kinda was too complicated for me.
Why they just don't call it "install" instead of Flash then lol?

avoid using the OTA update feature on your phone. i didnt know you were doing things that way. you'll notice many more bugs and problems that route.
you are on the right path when you say download the actual update (latest release) yourself. make sure you have the gapps to go with it. boot into cwm, wipe data/both cache, flash rom, flash gapps

Im running ClockworkMod v2.6.0.1 and I originally wanted to flash the new MIUI ROM 1.2.4. I followed the directions numerous times with no success. Then I decided to just Flash the first MIUI Rom 1.1.7, Yes Success! Then I tried the next bit of directions for the ones who presently had an older version (1.1.7) to upgrade to the new (1.2.4) and still I could not get that to work. I guess it was not meant to be. But i really hope to get the updated one later this evening when I attempt it again. Maybe im doing something wrong...help me out, Im trying to get used to this. Thanks!!!
Very easy, friend.
In Amon Ra/Clockwork you must wipe your /data and caches. (Also known as "full wipe").
Then, the magic bit - you must also wipe /system.
After performing these wipes install the MIUI .zip.
Then I personally install Zendroid 1.1.0 AVS / BFS.
I reboot then, and I am in MIUI.
I then enjoy MIUI.
I hope you enjoy MIUI.

To install MIUI, you need to do a full wipe [data reset, cache, dalvik] then flash your rom. After that you can flash a keernel if you wish to.
I've always used Calkulin's format-all.zip to fully wipe before installing or even updating MIUI. I rarely have any reboots. Don't forget you need to set the wifi sleep policy to Never.
Thanks to all!!!

You guys have been helpful, but let me make sure I understand correctly. Stated by BigMoogle. Im in recovery, I flash format-all.zip and also wipe [data reset, cache, dalvik]? Now that I only need an upgrade, all i need to do is format-all.zip and then flash the new updated version?

Just flash format-all.zip. No need to also write data, cache and dalvik. Then flash the rom. Reboot. Set wifi sleep policy to Never.

Hi everybody,
just a quick question.
I flashed CM9 alpha7 a few days ago and now I saw that CM9 alpha8 is available, however if I go on
Menu -> Phone Info -> Update system
I cannot find any update.
So how can I update it to alpha8?
Thank you very much!
Lol, clicked wrong button, didn't mean to abuse thank button
Quoted from CM9
'Upgrades from previous versions of CM9 are the same process as install, except you do not need to wipe anything. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to even wipe cache and dalvik-cache when upgrading between CM9 versions. You only need to wipe if you are doing a major upgrade, switching to a different ROM entirely, or attempting to fix bugs caused by bad backups or corrupt app data.'
So you will need to download the latest ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576874
And flash it through CWM recovery
Hope it helps and good luck

I think it wouldn't lose them since you didn't wipe the data(not 100% sure), but it's always better for you to do a backup, please correct me if I am wrong

And have you had any problems with it making backups, flashing, etc. ? I am still on TWRP 2.3.1 because I've heard that all of the later versions have had problems. Just want some clarification. Thanks!
I'm currently using 2.5.0.0 and not having any problems (other than the time is still wrong). I've backed up and restored from 2.5.0.0. as well.

The later versions do not have 'problems' but rather minor issues that can be dealt with, such as returning you to main menu upon scrolling and making selections on your sd cards. These are manageable. However 2.5 has been the most stable version I as well as others have experienced.

2.5 has been fine for me, I think more people have had correct time than those who haven't. My time is correct on 2.5 and I've had no issues with it, also the UI change is nice.
Do 2.5.0 have mount as usb storage? They removed in after 2.4.2.0, but don't know if it was added again.
I still on 2.3.3.0.

I don't keep one backup: I keep them all! (mainly so I can test when people have issues with x.y.z version of TWRP or CWM, but still). Oh, and btw, thanks for making the flashable ones... it's saved me many Odin flashes.
I made a nandroid in 2.5.0 and right away did a restore and it went fine.

I THINK 2.3.1.0 (which is why I am running it), I've heard from some people that it's been the most stable, as later versions have some bugs.
But I'm gonna try the newest 2.5.0 now and see how it goes! :good:
Depends What You Want
I use TWRP 2.5.0.0 mainly cause I love to be on the latest version of a software unless it has some bug that causes it die or not function well. TWRP 2.5.0.0 works perfectly well in my case, I have had no glitches with it flashing ROMs but I haven't done backing up or restoring.
There is one thing I find annoying about 2.5.0.0 is that when I want to wipe my device's dalvik cache & cache, I have to click those two precisely by pressing Wipe>Advanced Wipe>Ticking Cache and Dalvik Cache. I find this annoying because if you just wipe it erases your caches along with your data and once I wiped my external SD card when I was trying to click Cache & Dalvik Cache. So yah if you can live with that, you should be fine.
Press Thanks If I Helped :highfive:
I always have issues with TWRP not being able to flash ROMs. All version of TWRP that I've tried have this same problem. There's very few ROMs it can flash on my phone. Doesn't matter whether they're signed, have the md5, or whether I disable all verification. Just never works. evo4noob's MIUI was one of the few ROMs it could flash. I had to switch over to CWM, which has been fine, but I like TWRP more; I especially like that TWRP has a file browser.
USB and ADB don't work for me in TWRP or CWM. I once wiped everything on my phone, everything, in a desperate attempt to start over from scratch. I had to put my external SD into another phone and transfer the ROM to it that way since there's no way to transfer files between my computer and SGS3 when it's in recovery mode.
It's been like this since day one. My phone is a finicky *****.

That's not a real problem. After you flash any zip, it has a button specifically to wipe Dalvik and cache. It doesn't matter if you wipe them before or after flashing, so you could just flash whatever, then press the button afterwards. It's super easy and convenient with no chance of wiping anything important.
Putting the ILLA in KILLA since 1985
I've used twrp since it debuted on any device I've owned they've supported. Only issue I've had is with the new screen timeout settings not sticking.
I generally flash while plugged in so don't care for timeout.
That being said, it doesn't seem to affect anything so I can deal with it.
I've found it faster than cwm and backups smaller. I'm also not a fan of using ROM manager just to get the updates/touch. I'll happily pay for any app I use consistently, but not just for one feature. I've supported Goo because I download a lot from their site.
Also remember vaguely an issue on the Epic 4g Touch involving cwm/ROM Manager that left me with little confidence in the developer. Please don't ask, can't remember specifics but it had more to do with attitude than the real issue.
I've been running 2.5.0.0 almost from the day it was released without problems. Backups, restores (from 2.5.0.0 as well as the previous several versions) and wipes all working as expected.
Having only dabbled with rooting and upgrading a Evo View tablet, I jumped into the deep end with my Incredible 2.
I got it to S-off and rooted and have been trying a few different ROMS (mostly chillybean's) and have what seems to be a common problem:
Sound works fine until a call is received. The ringtone fails to play and then sound doesn't work at all until its reset. I have had success resetting the sound by activating Google Voice Search with a long press of the search button. This seems to be true for CM10.2 and PAC. I didn't test this on an Evervolv because 3G never comes back on after Wi-fi has been turned on.
Has anybody had better luck with a particular 4.3 ROM? Does this sound issue affect pre-4.3 JB roms?
Thanks!

The 929 rom is not working for me and I know at least of couple of other folks in the same situation.
Are you using the 929 ROM with sound successfully? What - exactly - did you do to install it? I'm wondering if it's a I'm-doing-something-stupid/wrong thing or maybe a hardware revision thing.
Thanks!

Flashed it like any new ROM. Backup important data and reboot into recovery mode. Once in recovery mode:
Factory reset
Wipe cache
Advanced -> wipe dalvik cache
Mount/unmount -> format system
Format boot
Install AntiVenom SDW
Flash a ROM
Flash GApps
Wipe dalvik cache
Reboot and you should be golden. I've had it hang at the boot screen a few times, had to start over and skip installing GApps until I was sure it would boot.

I flashed Evervolv 10/30 nightly yesterday and it looks like they have the 3G/WiFi toggle issue resolved. The quick settings were missing but, I'm guessing that'll be corrected in the next build. Also, flashed B-Team Kernel. 4.3-s2w version resulted in bootloops but, the 4.3-v2 version worked just fine. No sound issues as far as I can tell.
Does the latest Everlov nightly work? Also what are you all referring to when you say Chilly's forum, the "Inc S dev fix", and AntiVenom SDW? I went through 5-10 of the most recent pages on Everlov and didn't see any of these things, so would someone mind providing links?
Thanks

Alright thanks a bunch.
Would you, or anyone else still reading this thread, care to weight in on whether Evervolv or CB's rom (Which? Beanstalk?) is more stable?
OK, I dont want to post in the ROM area.. as far as I remember I am suppose to post here.
So I would like to install 14.1 on my note 2 I317. I did it last night.. not great results, but it was the root thing.
I am not sure the dev thread is updated on the latest way to upgrade the phone.
Anyone help? I flash the rom, then the apps (is the stock still the best option?) and then what do I do about root, because in the last few posts of the dev thread I see something about not flashing.. and flashing.
and then there is the HWC thing? am I doing this>? or no?
James
Also I am coming from way back on a rom called SLIMFAST 4.4 - If I want to carry over apps and data.. what is the best way to do that? or can I really?
James
You will carry the data (music, videos etc.), but app data no.
I don't recommend you to flash HWC as you are beginning with this and it is still test stuff.
Anyway steps:
1. Flash latest version of TWRP.
2. Backup. (In case something goes wrong)
3. Wipe dalvik, cache, system, data.
4. Install LineageOS.
5. Install Google Apps. There aren't 'the best'. It all depends on you which you want to use/how much google stuff you want on your phone.
6. Install magisk for root - http://tiny.cc/latestmagisk

Or u can just backup APKs using this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.usage.appbackup
And restore them with just one click using this :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sharon.oneclickinstaller
But if you want data too, Titanium is good
well since the install the first time did not work well I restored the backup I did.. Now tonight I was trying to use the gps, and it is now not working since I restored the backup?
Is it possible something happened there??
When you restore a backup ( I did a complete with everything) I dont have to wipe stuff out first do I?

well, the partitions that is going to be restored are wiped by default before restoring the backup, so there's no need to wipe, it might be a bug in the ROM and you didn't notice it before.
anyway, you can try wiping manually then restore.
btw, your thread name is confusing, it's better not to right in that form......[ROM][7.1.2][OFF..........when it's a normal help thread.
well I am not sure it is a normal help thread.
For 2 years I have been using slimfast 4.4 no issues - and then I decided to try this rom, and it breaks my GPS.
I have restored 3 different backups I had of slimfast 4.4 dating back to January 2015. None of them does the GPS work.
Before I tried the 7.1 upgrade I was locking 22 satellites in about 45 seconds. Now I cannot lock to 1.
Is there an issue with this rom that would break the GPS to the point that no matter what rom is in it wont work?
Or can someone give me a hint on what to try next? I can try and re-do the upgrade via Option58s instructions.

yes it's a normal help thread, your thread name is more like a ROM thread name!, however...
did you try a clean install of the kitkat rom first?
maybe something is making a conflict or whatever I'm not sure..
try a clean install and see if the GPS is fixed.
clean install of 4.4 and no gps. apps that can show if the hardware is there, so it is present and available? but no app gets a lock.. on even 1 satalite.

I'm not sure, last thing to try is Flashing stock ROM, if that didn't help it, then it's a hardware damage.
