[Q] Help on Installing kernel zip for custom rom? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! First post here. So I just permarooted my G2, and I got a custom ROM up called Andromadus Mimicry ROM – version 1.5.0 (September 4, 2012). I'm trying to overclock the phone, but I can't find the exact .zip file that holds the kernel?
Here is the link to the developer's site.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714187

Well I don't think you'll find this kernel in a flash able zip, you will find the boot.img in the full ROM zip you downloaded (that is the kernel bty) but really you don't need to play with that yourself to overclock, just go into settings and do so under performance.
If you prefer there some nice apps which may make it simpler like setcpu and kernel tuner, also have had good luck with ilwt tools and other dameon controllers found on the market and often free to download within these threads.
But really I found mimicry to run great on stock settings, of course half the fun with android is to try stuff on your own!
Good luck, oh and always make a backup before changing things too much

I already am using SetCPU. There was a problem with SetCPU before that whenever I went into it, it said it didn't have Superuser access. Which was weird, because Superuser said it did. But of course, now I went to check and it's overclocking fine with no errors. Problem solved itself...somehow. LOL.

[ROM] Darky's ROM 9.3 switching kernels

Hey guys im new here this site has helped me heaps so thought I would become a.member of such a great community
First of all sorry if there are post containing this very question, I tried posting in the darkys rom extreme edition 9.3 topic but must be locked and didn't find anything relating my question.
Anyway im using this rom and loving it its brilliant. Im currently using the voodoo kernel and would like to change and try the speedmod without losing my ****. I have searched Google for a tut to switch kernels on darky's rom but didn't find anything. I read about speedmod from other users that are using it, and most on this mod seem to profer it and have the lagfixes and tweeks from recovery enabled, can someone walk me through the process or give me.some idea on how to do this?
Thanks heaps if you can help, much appreciated.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Hello,
Ok, go to the android market and download Darky's configurator app.
Appbrain Link http://www.appbrain.com/app/darkyrom-configurator/com.darkyrom.darkyconfig
In this app you can select a few options here and there, namely the one that allows you to choose speedmod. After you have chosen speedmod. Go to recovery mode and reflash Darky's Rom.
Thats all.
Regards,
Rexonon
no need to flash full rom again. Just go to Hardcore's speedmod thread and download the CWM zip file for latest version (k13c). Put this on internal sd card. Go into recovery and apply zip....that's it
(btw..you posted in wrong section)
Thanks heaps big help and sorry for wrong section.
So how does the lagfix and tweeks work. What do I enable for best performance? Thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Performance is relative. It depends on how you use your phone.
Disable the voodoo lagfix before changing kernels. This is good practice for any flashing. Reboot, then back into recovery to flash the speedmod.
Try without lagfix to start with. Many roms don't require it.

You can also use the App SGS Kernel Flasher, which can flash the kernel directly without the need of going into the recovery. Works flawlessy for me ... It can also backup your current kernel if needed
Ueh I was looking downloading that app wasn't sure if I should. Might look into it
I flashed the damianGTO ultimate 1_1 kernel played with the settings a bit and quite happy with this kernel. Ran benchmark and got 2154 not sure what the results actually represent but a result that high j have a feeling im going to receive battery drain, but battery life seems pretty good so far today.
Sorry for getting off topic but thanks heaps for everyone's reply all helpful replys
Appreciate all your help guys thanks

[Q] Rcmix sense 3.5 kernel and radio?

Since I can't post in the developer section yet i'm asking here, hope it's ok. Been looking at the ROM for a few mins and it looks great, but i've been using MIUI for so long my flashing skills are kind of rusty.
First of all, the kernel is included in the ROM and is the one the developer recommends or have developed right?
And secondly, wich radio is recommended for the ROM? Could'nt find any answer to that in the first post dedicated to the ROM. Should i flash radio before or after i flash the ROM?
Again hope you don't mind me posting this stupid question here and thank you in advance for your answers.
Oh and btw does HTC Watch work with these ROMs? Living in Sweden if it matters.

Radio is your personal choice... just pick the one which works best for you. Flash the rom and yes the kernel is included in the rom.

follow my signature for trouble free flash and welcome to rcmix3d 1.5... best rom out there and if the htc watch service is available in your country then yes it will work.
Transferring the ROM, Supercharger, full wipe 1.5 ext4, and the overclock thing right now, hopefully I'll have it done with the titanium backed up apps installed as well. Your signature actually helped alot.

you are welcome just remember while using titanium backup DO NOT restore system apps and ONLY restore user apps without data.. even better if you have not started already just make a folder in the root of your sdcard\RCTeam\app.user and copy all your user apps from data\app folder to sdcard\RCTeam\app.user and let the rom install your apps automatically.
Restoring data was the reason i bought titanium backup
I'll just restore the apps i had then with market links. The ROM is really fast btw, the eyecandy isn't too bad either.

Actually it seems that the script killersloth linked is the problem as the phone froze again before i even entered my SIM Pin, I'll just flash the restore thing before it freezes the next time.
And Wavesecure is actually really good, I can lock and locate and wipe the phone with simple text messages, though I never use any kind of AV apps.

I would just go with a standard Rom flash set it up as my liking then do a nand backup only then I will start playing with oc\uv and fine tuning the rom to my liking... it has saved me a lot of problems faced by many users. just my way of doing things. after every success mod I do a nand backup incase my next mod messes up something I have a backup to come back to saves a lot of time and hassle. IMHO I can't say any thing about killersloth's script coz I have not used it.
NAND backups takes ages xD
However the phone is working as it should now, all thats left is a nice theme, anyone?
I won't be playing around with voltages and speeds on the CPU, default is just fine.

Nope getting it aswell, I'll try the one you are using.
I can't log in to Facebook using friend stream when I want to put on my lockscreen, just says wrong username or password although I know it's not.
Can I use any of the ROMs listed in the OUT kitchen or do I have to upload my own files as the ones for this specific ROM aren't available.

your best bet is to upload the files from your phone or the downloaded rom, in the uot kitchen.. the fc problem in the glass theme is a known issue you overcome it by disabling the sound effects in the weather app
OK, thanks for the fc fix.
Only thing bothering me with the theme is the transparency in the status bar, replacing it and the battery, + a new font. Then I'm happy until I find something fancier

Well the file uploads been sitting on pending for a while now, and the statusbar preview didn't work so I have no idea how it will turn out, we'll see soon

[Q] Ktoonz rom question

Hey all, sorry I couldn't post a reply in the original dev forum because I'm too new. Just had a question for the folks using
[ROM] AOKP(Jellybean) Task & Ktoonsez (9/14) and Ktoonz 9.14 kernel.
I can't seem to find "ktweaker" anywhere. Wanted to play with some voltage settings. Closest thing I can find is under ROM Control, under the performance menu I have CPU SETTINGS, which i cant go over 1512 or under 384, and a tab for voltage settings but that tab tells me that my kernel doesn't support voltage control.
Any help would be appreciated
I've attached a screenshot of my kernel for reference.
Thanks!
Based on that screenshot, you're on the kernel that comes with AOKP, not ktoonsez's kernel. You'll find that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756776
Once you get that flashed, Ktweaker should appear in the app drawer.

That's odd because I downloaded and flashed from that page. I downloaded the AOKP Jellybean Build 9.14.2012. Is there something I could be doing wrong with flashing the kernel? I booted into recovery, ran the .zip files, wiped caches, fixed permissions and rebooted.

I think all KT kernels now have KTweaker. It's an app in your app drawer, select it then check allow over clocking at the top. Should be good to go.
Think I figured it out, originally I had installed the kernel before booting into the freshly installed rom. I just rebooted into recovery and installed the kernel again. Now my phone is running extremely slow for some reason, gonna try a reboot and report back.
Wow, things are real screwed up now, phone running extremely slow, I see Ktweaker but it force closes, can't connect o mobile network /sigh
Any suggestions?

Do this dude.
Flash my ROM and gapps.
Then flash ktoonsez kernel. Make sure you flash the jellybean aosp kernel.
Its sounds like you haven't read either of the OP's of both the ROM and kernel threads and it also sounds like you flashed the wrong kernel. Read them please.

This thread is meant for people with questions regarding my Kitkat ROM.
Why did I create this thread?
I want to keep my Development thread clean.
What can I ask/post about?
Almost anything, as long as it is related to me or the ROM.
Some examples;
"Does INT2EXT work with this rom?"
"Does supercharger work with this rom?"
"Where are you from?"
And so on...
Feel free to help each other out! And please, stop posting about this in the development thread.

I had it installed on P11. You have to patch services.jar (there's a windows tool to do it for you here).
I had a lot of freezing problems before and after installing it. They weren't the same after I installed it; not necessarily better, just different. I have no way of knowing if it was supercharger or an app or some sort of interaction between two or more things.
I'm on 3.1.0p1 now and I have no intention of using supercharger because my Desire is more responsive and better at multitasking now than it ever was on Gingerbread with supercharger.
sorry to ask what exactly is/does supercharger?

I can't say, I don't use my desire. But.. If someone else here were to install Netflix (No need to login, just try to start) that'd be great.
Get me a logcat and I'll see what I can do.
adb logcat -c <press enter>
adb logcat > netflix.txt <press enter> and start netflix. then upload it somewhere (like pastebin?)
I would ask for Aroma Installer with which we can be able to choose between different scripts (A2SD and INT2EXT) and misc.
And....what about trying Cyanogenmod settings to be able to customize even further?

Using Aroma = more bugs. No thank you.
Well.. That's Cyanogenmod and not Evervolv.
Hi Nikez, Just curious, any reason you use a2sd and not other scripts (d2ext, int2ext etc)? Speed, stability? So people won't ask and try other alternatives as you as dev explain the benefit.
By any chance, did anyone try endomondo on the new p1 release? On p11 I had a problem that every time I tried viewing the map, the phone froze.. not sure if it was some issue with gapps. Anyone hit anything similar?
@nikez thanks for the awesome JB ROM. My Desire is still kicking along after nearly 2.5 years!
I have just installed the latest update 3.0.0p11, flashed the 4.1.2 version of google apps (gapps-jb-20121011-signed) and setup app2sd.
When I view the available space using Titanium Backup I only have 36.8kB free in System Rom partition. Is that normal on stock Hboot?
Also, I installed the latest Google Calendar update from the Play Store. I now have two calendar apps installed. Has anyone else tried this yet? Do I need to remove the other one from /system?
I would like to thank you deeply for this amazing ROM. I've been searching a perfect rom for a long time, but I think I am very close to end my search now while using your ROM. Very fast, very versatile, almost stock ROM. I love simplicity and this is absolutely perfect.
The only problem I had was a problem with camera - I know this is an annoying issue with many ROMs and it's probably not very well made in the Android itself. Do you think it will get better? I understand that it probably does not depend on you, but I believe this is the last thing that is truly missing to your ROM. (But I am no power user, just a casual user).
And again, thank you for (imho) the best Jelly Bean ROM available here, and I am seriously considering a donation. Keep up the good work!

[Q] Is the stock rom "good enough"?

I'm taking over a friends old R800i next week and I'm really looking forward to it since I've wanted one of these since about when it was released.
What I'm looking for is a rom that gives me all the usual stuff - GSM connection, working 3G, wifi, gps, sms, mms, camera - but, will a custom rom give me better performance for emulation?
I want to be able to emulate all kinds of consoles without losing too much performance due to the rom - nor do I want my battery to get drained while the phone isn't in use. I'm of course ready to try a bunch of roms and I have looked at some of the threads, without learning much to be honest. I'm not even up to date with who's roms are the stable ones or which is the highest SE provided rom for Play either.
Looking to emulate N64, nes, PS and sega genesis, mainly.
If you root and debloat the stock rom, you will get excellent gaming performance. I went rom using custom roms and went back to stock as it provided the best performance all around.

Please act respectful: PizzaDox has opened many manu threads, and he can't be repling at all of them.
Anyway debloating a rom is simple and can be done by everyone that wants to, by extracting the system.sin from your .79 ftf, dumping its data with flashtool in order to make it a yaffs img, extracting it with a yaffs extractor and then removing the apps located into "app" that you consider as bloat
