[Q] legacy emulated and doubles of everything in storage - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I'm having troubles consolidating my files on my internal storage and sdcard. There are duplicate files that have no real extensions and almost seem like my storage created an exact copy of all of my files.
Image folders are listed twice in the Gallery app and the dead files show up in my gallery as black/nothing photos.
When looking in a file manager application, there are folders titled "0", legacy, and emulated. I have done some research and found out that this is a product of the feature within android 4.2 called user profiles. I'm still not exactly sure how this works and would appreciate if someone could shed some light onto this topic.
I am just having troubles getting my storage back to its consistency which is a huge thing for me. How can I at least gain control over my files?

Look on cm10.1 thread..there will be a .zip u flash in recovery, its called restore sd after downgrade zip. Hope this helps

[Q] Storage missing/partly hidden

Hello guys,
I have a bigger problem I hope you can help me with...
My internal storage is somehow messed up. This has effects on MTP and on some apps like the stock camera.
When accessing my internal storage by MTP from PC, only a few folders and files are visible. In contrast, if I list the content of "/mnt/sdcard" or "/storage/sdcard0" they show all my files and folders as one would expect. Also, files visible on the PC are inside this path and even when i copy a file from the PC, it is placed here.
The more serious problem is, that some apps are not able to find their files and folders inside die storage anymore. As an example, the camera app asks me to insert a sd card before taking a picture and Winamp doesn't find my music anymore.
What i tried so far:
Copying files from and to storage with Dropsync, FolderSync and ES Explorer: works without problems
I checked the rights of the files with the terminal: nothing interesting there
I cleared my whole storage (thanks to Unlock procedure) and flashed a new Custom ROM
I drank a lot of coffee because it got late
Nothing worked.
Please help, Thanks!
So thats me again.
I finally found the correct allready existing post. In this thread user dlzinc describes that one has to fix the permissions for /data/media. Good to know that i was right with permissions, bad that i didn't go through with it in the first place.

[Q] Storage Locations

I'm moving from an Android phone that used an SD card for storage at /mnt/sdcard. Now since the OG has no similar location I'm having problems. My phone is rooted. My first problem is with Office Suite. It will not let me make a new directory, My Documents, or use my existing one. When I make this directory it tells me there is no support files. I do have a directory by that name, and I'm not sure of its location because using Solid Explorer it appears as though it is in Internal Memory as well as mnt/sdcard. This whole storage memory is very confusing. Can someone please help with an explanation and a possible fix. Thanks

Internal SD File Structure has embedded"0" folders (2)

So I flashed a new rom with all the wipes and I ended up with a couple issues and the typical 4.2 file structure under the "0".
I tried another ROM again today (with the wipes) and now I have two "0" folders, one embedded under another and a lot of my backups are in different locations.
So it's SDCard/0/0.
Is there a good way to fix this?

I know the CAUSE is from using an out-of-date recovery. TWRP hasn't had that issue for a while, but i think CWM only fixed it just recently. It didn't start until i believe 4.2.1 ROMS were flashed. I'm still not sure if it's a good thing or not to delete those "0" folders or not. I'm sure someone will chime in on that.
the 0 folders have your sd card files in them (pictures, music, etc). if you move all your stuff back to the root of your internal sd card you can delete the 0 folders.

I tried moving the folders on my windows PC (old pos) and it didn't work. Android file transfer doesn't work with my GS3 and my Mac.
Frustrating.
Anyways to reflash something in CWM or is moving the files the only way?
Edit: Astro works alright...so where should Ibe putting most of these files? Under SDCard or under SDCard/0?
Now i moved some folders up, the gallery shows everything as a picture (icons) and titanium can't find any apps.
Nw sure what to do.
After I went back to stock, re-rooted, and reflashed 4.2, I tried moving everything from /sdcard/0 to /sdcard. It seemed to work, but then all of a sudden, on the next boot, it was all gone. My internal storage was wiped.
Luckily most of the important stuff is on my external SD card, but that was still really frustrating.
Just a word of warning if you try to move these files. Make a backup.

No file moving should be done, it will most likely cause data loss when the issue is finally gone... If CWM has fixed it switch to the newest one or use TWRP and Fully Wipe the phone including format /system...
Here is a link to a script you can flash to move files from 0 folders back to sdcard, you can thank the OP of the script there:

Manual solution via Windows
I had the same problem. Solved via the following steps: Using Windows, navigate to deepest level "0" folder. Select all, copy. Navigate to the next higher level "0" folder (or the root "Phone" folder if you're only one step down). Paste. Windows will perform a merge, versus replace.
Next, delete the "0" folder from the directory you're currently in, the one you just copied all the files from. I should note, I actually moved the folder to my desktop just in case I needed to bring it back later. So far I haven't, but better safe than sorry.
Once that's done, select all in the same folder, copy. Navigate to the next higher "0" level folder or the root (or the root "Phone" folder if you're only one step down). Paste. Repeat same process, move up a level, repeat, move up a level. You'll need to do this for every "0" folder you have (I had two, I've seen reports of more & less).
Eventually, you'll have all the same files and directory structure merged up to the root Phone folder. My device, a Samsung S3 running 4.3, recognized and responded to the changes with no problems.

[Q] Change Save To Directory For All Apps

I've been looking all over and could only find information on changing the directory for the camera or for changing from the internal storage to an external SD card.
What I am trying to figure out is how to consolidate my downloads, specifically all of my images, into one nice folder. For example, anything downloaded from Chrome is saved to the folder "Download" while everything I save from Reddit is Fun is saved to "Pictures." This drives me nuts when I am trying to send somebody one of these pictures and my Gallery is so cluttered. It would be great if there were a app/procedure that allowed me to specify where each app downloaded it's content to.
I am on a rooted SGH-T889, 3.0.36 Perseus Kernel, running stock 4.1.2
Thanks!

[Q] Weird writing problem on rooted ND8 stock.

Recently rooted my phone thanks to these wonderful people at a place called xda-developers. You may have heard of them.
Anyway, I find that there's something weird going on with my phone, I can't write to the internal storage. External SD card works fine, Internal SD card does not. Only a few apps work.
The camera app will take and save photos, but using the camera within Kik Messenger gives m the error that the photo cannot be saved, I have to take photos with the camera app, then import them to Kik with the "choose photo" option, which will let me choose a photo through Gallery.
In another related issue, ES File Explorer will not create new folders. I'm in the main directory of the "internal" SD card, where things like Downloads and DCIM like to sit in. I cannot make a folder. If I go in with a Windows computer over USB I can make folders fine. ES File Explorer cannot even delete the folder. Says "New Folder cannot be deleted" Why is this? I can even rename the folder, but I still cannot delete this folder. Going into the properties it says I have full read and write access to the folder, I still cannot delete it.
In a third instance I have the GPS program Navfree. I cannot even run the program. Google Play installs it and it says it works, but when I go to actually open the program it gives me the error "Program cannot be installed, contact support" before quitting me back to the home screen. This program is special because it downloads and installs, but there are map files that it needs to download before it becomes useful. This is done within the app and I do not know where it tries to save to.
I think all of these problems are related and I have not seen any forum posting about it so far and I have been searching for a while. Google Play will still download and install apps like no problem and ES File Explorer will copy and move files around and will even rename New Folder to 'folder' but will not delete i
At first I suspected it to be the problem with KitKat and the debacle about writing to /external/ SD cards. But my problem extends to the internal storage as well. I have applied the fix to the 'permissions.xml' file by adding "WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" I had to flash the fix in with recovery because I could not save the edited file I had typed up. Using one of the automated fixes in Google Play told me the action had already been completed. On the contrary, external storage works fine, I can write files and delete them and whatever I want to the external. The problem is with the internal card and it applies to everything I've tried except the camera.
So what is going on with my phone? I have root access but some apps will not work properly. It's just one headache after another. Here's hoping I won't notice the next one until I get another phone...
Eventually I just got fed up with the problem and re-applied the stock rom with Samsung Kies. Re-rooted and now the problem is no more. Thanks for thinking about me!
