I'm moving from an Android phone that used an SD card for storage at /mnt/sdcard. Now since the OG has no similar location I'm having problems. My phone is rooted. My first problem is with Office Suite. It will not let me make a new directory, My Documents, or use my existing one. When I make this directory it tells me there is no support files. I do have a directory by that name, and I'm not sure of its location because using Solid Explorer it appears as though it is in Internal Memory as well as mnt/sdcard. This whole storage memory is very confusing. Can someone please help with an explanation and a possible fix. Thanks

Hello guys,
I have a bigger problem I hope you can help me with...
My internal storage is somehow messed up. This has effects on MTP and on some apps like the stock camera.
When accessing my internal storage by MTP from PC, only a few folders and files are visible. In contrast, if I list the content of "/mnt/sdcard" or "/storage/sdcard0" they show all my files and folders as one would expect. Also, files visible on the PC are inside this path and even when i copy a file from the PC, it is placed here.
The more serious problem is, that some apps are not able to find their files and folders inside die storage anymore. As an example, the camera app asks me to insert a sd card before taking a picture and Winamp doesn't find my music anymore.
What i tried so far:
Copying files from and to storage with Dropsync, FolderSync and ES Explorer: works without problems
I checked the rights of the files with the terminal: nothing interesting there
I cleared my whole storage (thanks to Unlock procedure) and flashed a new Custom ROM
I drank a lot of coffee because it got late
Nothing worked.
Please help, Thanks!
So thats me again.
I finally found the correct allready existing post. In this thread user dlzinc describes that one has to fix the permissions for /data/media. Good to know that i was right with permissions, bad that i didn't go through with it in the first place.

I'm having troubles consolidating my files on my internal storage and sdcard. There are duplicate files that have no real extensions and almost seem like my storage created an exact copy of all of my files.
Image folders are listed twice in the Gallery app and the dead files show up in my gallery as black/nothing photos.
When looking in a file manager application, there are folders titled "0", legacy, and emulated. I have done some research and found out that this is a product of the feature within android 4.2 called user profiles. I'm still not exactly sure how this works and would appreciate if someone could shed some light onto this topic.
I am just having troubles getting my storage back to its consistency which is a huge thing for me. How can I at least gain control over my files?
Look on cm10.1 thread..there will be a .zip u flash in recovery, its called restore sd after downgrade zip. Hope this helps
Recently rooted my phone thanks to these wonderful people at a place called xda-developers. You may have heard of them.
Anyway, I find that there's something weird going on with my phone, I can't write to the internal storage. External SD card works fine, Internal SD card does not. Only a few apps work.
The camera app will take and save photos, but using the camera within Kik Messenger gives m the error that the photo cannot be saved, I have to take photos with the camera app, then import them to Kik with the "choose photo" option, which will let me choose a photo through Gallery.
In another related issue, ES File Explorer will not create new folders. I'm in the main directory of the "internal" SD card, where things like Downloads and DCIM like to sit in. I cannot make a folder. If I go in with a Windows computer over USB I can make folders fine. ES File Explorer cannot even delete the folder. Says "New Folder cannot be deleted" Why is this? I can even rename the folder, but I still cannot delete this folder. Going into the properties it says I have full read and write access to the folder, I still cannot delete it.
In a third instance I have the GPS program Navfree. I cannot even run the program. Google Play installs it and it says it works, but when I go to actually open the program it gives me the error "Program cannot be installed, contact support" before quitting me back to the home screen. This program is special because it downloads and installs, but there are map files that it needs to download before it becomes useful. This is done within the app and I do not know where it tries to save to.
I think all of these problems are related and I have not seen any forum posting about it so far and I have been searching for a while. Google Play will still download and install apps like no problem and ES File Explorer will copy and move files around and will even rename New Folder to 'folder' but will not delete i
At first I suspected it to be the problem with KitKat and the debacle about writing to /external/ SD cards. But my problem extends to the internal storage as well. I have applied the fix to the 'permissions.xml' file by adding "WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" I had to flash the fix in with recovery because I could not save the edited file I had typed up. Using one of the automated fixes in Google Play told me the action had already been completed. On the contrary, external storage works fine, I can write files and delete them and whatever I want to the external. The problem is with the internal card and it applies to everything I've tried except the camera.
So what is going on with my phone? I have root access but some apps will not work properly. It's just one headache after another. Here's hoping I won't notice the next one until I get another phone...
Eventually I just got fed up with the problem and re-applied the stock rom with Samsung Kies. Re-rooted and now the problem is no more. Thanks for thinking about me!
My tablet decided to unexpectedly crashed on me but thankfully I had backed up some of my lecture notes. Sadly not all of them. When I back them up I didn't use the Zip function. I just had folder sync copy the LectureNotes stored them. I've tried just copying and pasting them back into the new Lecturenotes folder but it doesn't display them on the Notebooks Board.
How can I get LectureNotes to read the older files that it created?
I'm on the Wifi only Galaxy 10.1 2014 Edition running android 4.4.2.
If you need more information feel free to ask question. I'll do my best to answer them.
@Icon000: Copying the files back into the app directory should actually do the job.
Before the hardware crash, did you use a custom app directory in LectureNotes? If so, have you set it again?

I'm like 85% sure no. I did mess with a lot of the settings. I couldn't set it up again since it was pre-KitKat and it would have been on my SD card in Folders I created to be similar to the way it is set up by default.
The way I found the LN folder last time was by just creating a new notebook in the empty lecturenotes and give it an unique easy to find name like ln123456. Then just use search functionality of your filemanager to find that folder and copy your old lecturenotes files over.
@Icon000: To which location did you copy the files?
The standard app directory follows an Android standard and is Android/data/com.acadoid.lecturenotes/files, starting in the root of the SD card.

@acadoid, Sorry for the delay, I've been busy. So how do I now move that the contents of that director to the SD card considering the limitation of Kitkat, where apps can modify files they create?
@Icon000: The constraints in Android 4.4 (KITKAT) apply to the external SD card, not the internal one.
On the external SD card, the path that is accessible under Android 4.4 (KITKAT) is Android/data/com.acadoid.lecturenotes/files (in fact the same path as the standard app directory on the internal SD card).

okay, I was trying to move it off the internal to the external so should something happen to the tablet the files aren't completely lost. I was told that the native file manager can do more than 3rd party managers as a result of these new restrictions.
@Icon000: It might be that a file manager app that shipped with the device has the permission to write everywhere on the external SD card.
Note that you can easily restore pre-KITKAT behavior of the external SD card if your device is rooted.

@acadoid, thank you for the recommendation of rooting. At this time I am considering it.
While I have your attention have you considered adding another way to view the folder structure where a list of the structure is on the left 1/3 and on the other 2/3 have the contents of the selected folder and relevant information such as modification dates.
I ask because I have a lot of folders and its getting hard to manage them even in the ultra compact view. What do you view and relevant settings do you suggest for when you have a lor of folders and notebooks?
@Icon000: I use `ultra compact´ with `display as tree´ and `display mini-icons´ (the latter allows a distinction by cover color).
I decided to upgrade to Lollipop after holding out for awhile.... before I did though, as I knew I was going to run an RUU so I wouldn't have any problems with the OTA, I copied everything in my "storage" (all folders) to my windows laptop desktop via USB.
After upgrading, I copied it all back, making sure not to over-write anything.
What is strange is when I copied all my folders to my laptop initially, I didn't see a Download folder... which I expected to see. But after looking through the folders I had copied, I saw a folder called storage, and in that folder another called emulated, and then another called "0". In that folder I finally saw my Download folder.
I didn't think much of this at the time, however, when I look at storage from Root Explorer, I note there is a new Download folder at the "root" level of storage, but the storage/emulated/0 path is still there as well.... and following it takes me to my old Download folder....
So...to get back my original folders and contents before I upgraded to Lollipop, I have to copy over every folder in this path up 3 levels. i.e., from /storage/emulated/0/storage/emulated to /storage/emulated.
What is going on? Why is there an "0" and a "legacy" if I go up one level from /storage/emulated/??? Why did my old Download folder end up where it did?
I had this exact same thing in my mind.
Why is there such a folder ?
My phone storage was almost full and I found out this folder is taking up whole space.
I cut the storage folder and pasted it into memory card
now all my downloads go to memory card (mmc:storage/emulated/0)
+1
I have also this folder that takes a lot of internal memory space.
I experiment one thing:
I have 1 game that takes 2Gb of data and I have moved it to sdcard memory (using Android-M feature : move app from internal to sdcard )
I saw in this directory (emulated/0/ ) the 2Gb of this game. ????? So, I tryed to copy/paste this data to sdcard, in order to free internal memory space. But I loose the game's configuration.
I was thinking that moving app from internal to scard, the data of the app also move, isn't it ?
I need help to understand that ...
