Battery Question - Galaxy 3 Accessories

I think i have Screwed up my G3 battery.
I want to know whether a battery for any samsung Phone will do, or is there any special one just for G3?
-Thanx

Just give it a try. The only thing you will have to make sure is that the voltage matches, though I'm convinced that there are only the 3.7V packs out there anyway. Also, mind the polarity. If it is not indicated, measure it. Other than that, I'd say it is safe to do some try and error testing.
(As always, remember to be careful with advice from pingguo! Success is not guaranteed.)
Cheers!

New battery for Galaxy Nexus i9250

Hi,
Recently my battery stopped charging beyond the 89% mark and now people say that I need to get a new battery. I'm thinking if I should I may go for a long lasting one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-Ori...ccessories&hash=item2a22467775#ht_2796wt_1397
But I've heard that as the NFC key is encrypted in the battery people have had issues where the NFC stopped working or such. What should I check for to guarantee that it wouldn't be the case with this one?
Thanks in advance for your help.
P.S.: Still for the time being if someone can help with the 89% charge issue, that'd be great.

The battery only contains an antenna for NFC. The actual NFC chip is in the phone itself.
Oh ok! Thanks for the correction guys.
Does this mean that I can safely go with any battery out there? Or the one that I linked?

The one you linked to appears to be a Samsung battery. It will support NFC. If you buy a battery without an NFC antenna, it will still power your phone but NFC won't work.
If you are on Sprint you can call telesales and they will send you the extended battery and door for free just pay for shipping. The extended batt is a 2100Mah instead of the 1850Mah original.

Thanks guys for all your help. Just ordered the battery from the link above. Hope that it works fine and at least would be a good upgrade from the stock one.

I plan on buying the Samsung 2000mAh battery myself as soon as my current one becomes insufficient.
Well the current one that I have started dying on me twice a day without any drastic changes to my usage. So I think it was a faulty one anyway before this issue started.
Will see how the 2000mAh one fares for my heavy use.

I just tried the battery and it still won't charge beyond the 84% mark now. So I'm now completely confused on what to do with it? Does anyone has any clue? I'm using the Franco Kernel, does it have anything to do with that?
Thanks.

One way to find out- try a different kernel. If that doesn't work, try a factory reset. If that doesn't work, try a different rom. If it still does the same thing, it's time for a new phone.

Tried a different ROM and the stock kernel. Doesn't help. The charging still stops at 89% or whatever random number it wants to. I really don't want to send this back, I just hope there was a way to fix it.
But I think the way back is the only way. Will talk to my carrier then.
Thanks guys for all your help. :good:
Same problem here...
After upgrading to 4.2.1, battery stoped charging to 100%
Now charges to 64%, and if I remove it goes down to 4% then increase around 30%
Not sure if the problem is with the battery.
Tried eveything else aound: Kernels, Stock Brazilian ROM (all versions), Stock Google Images, MIUI, CM9, CM10 and CM10.1
Really sad about that.
Sorry for tha bad engrish...

I have the exact same problem after just 2 months of using this device. The problem first happened when i upgraded to the 4.2.1 takju JOPD firmware! The phone almost goes dead in 6hrs with minimal talk time, and a charge stops at 84%!
Unfortunately, I got this device while in the US from playstore, and now I am back in India. Not even sure of the warranty coz I have rooted this device.
Can anyone please advice?
I'm not sure if this could help, but have you tried draining your battery first (until it powers off) and then charging it to full without turning it on? I've read somewhere (don't remember where but I think it was here on xda) that the battery statistics become more inaccurate over time if you don't drain it to zero at times. I think it's called power cycling which is a good practice to have longer battery lifespan. I hope this helps

Actually, it shortens the battery lifespan exponentially. Full discharge of a lithium-ion battery is unhealthy. Likewise, complete power cycles shorten the battery's serviceable life.
If you suspect the battery's internal fuel gauge to be inaccurate, you could do this once in a blue moon, bearing in mind the unintended consequences.

BIG Problem

For like the past day or two my phone has been running extremely hot and the battery isnt charging like it normally does. Now it charges extremely slowly, if at all sometimes, and no the contacts are not dirty. I Tried charging it using USB and also wall outlet, ive tried changing the wall "brick" used to plug in my usb cord to higher and lower amperage and voltage but same problem. Now back to the heat problem, Ive tried switching up ROMs, kernels, ROM/kernel combinations just in case it was a kernel and/or ROM problem and same thing. Both problems happen with my 3800mAh extended battery and stock battery. Please if anyone knows anything about this or has any help its well appreciated.

Weird, dude. Well you close to being able to safely assume its not a software issue. But before ruling that out completely I would Odin back to stock; it really does make a difference. Also, can you tell me where the phone is getting the hottest at? Is it just the battery or is it somewhere else?

They may not care, but I personally would try to get back to stock not to chance it.
Also, I most definitely recommend fastboot over Odin. The only time I would use Odin, is if my USB port died and I wanted to get back to stock.

[Q] Battery problems

Hi
'Noob' here, be gentle, please.
My original Desire is 2.5 years old. So is the battery that started playing up.
It didn't last long and the phone kept suddenly switching off at about 50%. I guess it's a pretty common problem: Htc Desire Shuts down at 40-50% battery
So, I've bought a new one, "aoonen".
The new problem is that it stacks at 15% when charging.
The LED light turns green and it shows in the Status: Battery status - Full, Battery level - 15%.
Sometimes after plugging out an back in it starts charging and shows 16-17% for some time, but soon it stops and shows 15% again.
If the phone is switched off, the LED turns to amber and remains amber, but the battery seems not to be charging as the phone remains cool and it's the same 15% when switched back on in few hours.
It's original HTC charger and cable, but I did try other cables and PC USB ports to no avail.
Factory reset did not help.
Neither did booting to recovery with wiping all caches and battery statistics.
If I replace the new battery with the old one it shows 100%.
Android 2.3.7 installed by my son (I am no expert in this) in Nov 2012.
Kernel 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-g2a32ab1 [email protected] #31. I still have cm-7.2.0.1-bravo.zip on the SD card and used it for the recovery.
If it's of any importance, before buying the new battery I tried using some apps (uninstalled now) that didn't help: Battery Calibration and Easy Battery Calibration.
I like my Desire, I fits all my needs and I am very reluctant to replace it.
Will be grateful for any ideas and advices.
you deserve credit for researching your problem thoroughly .
to be honest, just sounds like a fake/counterfeit battery. it doesn't look like a reputable brand to me.
you've tried calibrating the original battery and still get early shutdowns?
i take it you still need a new one, personally i would recommend official battery if you can find it, you get what you pay for.
I have wrote about same issue in this forum
You have src shots also in my thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275048
I have order new bat but I am still waiting for it.
Did you try to wipe battery stats through cwm? Battery calibration should do this but you can try manual also through cwm?
If nothing helps try new battery. Maybe new one is fake.

It was mentioned somewhere as a good brand. And what's the point in faking/counterfeiting some unreputable brand? This was exactly my thought that a 'genuine' battery is far more likely to be fake.

"if you can find it" - absolutely. Any recomendations?
Also, my battery is BB99100, but often I see BA S410 for Desire that looks similarly. What's the difference?

no, i've never replaced my original battery after nearly 3 years now probably should, so can't give any recommendations as to where to buy one.
it's a minefield, but be thankful that it's relatively easy to buy a replacement, unlike some new high end phones.
calibration should only be done with proper apps, this is the only one i know of that works, you have to find and follow the instructions carefully, though i've never done it myself. my battery still dies anywhere in between 15% and to 6%, which i can live with and just gotten used to. however if yours is dying at 40-50% it's likely that it's aged beyond its working life.
cwm is short for clockworkmod, he is suggesting you wipe battery stats there, but this myth has been debunked for a while that it does not calibrate the battery in any way.

Some user says there: "You must read the tutorial on XDA if you want this to work. Follow it step by step."
Anybody knows where it is at XDA?
The censored link was to "Battery Calibrator" app by Jon Richards
Real calibration is done by:
- wait until the battery is completely empty and the phone shuts down
- insert a charger immediately but leave the phone OFF
- wait until the phone is fully charged
This worked perfectly for me!

Poor battery life...

Hello,
The battery life of my Z1 compact is very low. This only started the last month or so.
Are there things I can do to improve it?
I have been thinking of putting another rom on it, but not used to this anymore. A few years ago I did a lot (with my HTC Hero), but at the moment I don't have time to do this regularly (read: I was single on those days ). I can remember that there was an option in the recovery to whipe the battery stats, so maybe this can help me.
Then, is there a light yet stable rom out there?
Maybe you can give me also some guides on how to start with this: rooting, replacing recovery image and flashing a custom Rom.
Anyways thanks for your help.
Sorry if I made some mistakes, English is not my native language.
Bart.
This additional info can maybe useful:
Currently I am on Android 5.1.1 Build 14.6.A.0.368 ...
Most people have noticed that battery life on LP is generally a little worse than on KK, but usually stock rom battery life is pretty good, so if it's just getting worse suddenly, you might want to try an update, (.368 is not the newest fw), or maybe some changes you made are draIning the battery, or maybe the battery is old and needs to be replaced. Most custom roms are fine as far as battery drain goes, but most are not better than stock, so probably not a solution to the issue. Have you been using any battery - saving options, (stamina, Greenify, etc.)?
Are you using Pocket (readitlater)?
The new version of the app sucks alot of battery... =(

I found it pretty easy to replace the battery myself, but that will void the warranty so you might not want to do that if there is still significant time left to run on the warranty.

I should have posted this. I have found some useful info about changing the battery (mainly youtube), and I already ordered a new battery and adhesive for the back cover.
Another question I posted earlier: is there a way to force update to version .1.236

Is is a possible fake HTC 10?

Hi all,
I just got a new HTC 10 due to its good speaker review and its size, not too small, not too big. Right after I made the purchase, I started to read more to learn about the phone and realize there is a possibility of getting a fake phones. So, when I got the phone yesterday, I started to scrutinize it quite a bit. The box arrived sealed, the phone looks new, no blemish. It also feel good in the hand. Overall, nothing to complain about the look and the fell.
Upon opening the box, I noticed that a few things which made me wonder if this is an original phone:
1. the phone came in a generic clear plastic as oppose to a more formal sticker with HTC logo as seen in the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VHXXQmFq6I&t=278s
2. the sim card opener is not the same as those showed on Youtube in the shape and the location in the box. Those on Youtube are on the document box while this one is in another box. It is also hollow compared to the almost solid one on Youtube.
3. Although the charger seems to be a quick charger, I got the message on the phone that it is not.
4. Another thing is the software update. According to HTC website (https://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-10/news/), the latest version is 3.16.617.2 but the phone shows the version 3.16.401.2 which is an older version. However, when I clicked on the Check Update button, I got the message that everything is up-to-date. The wallpaper of the phone looks like that of the ROM Pyrana-3.16.401.2 but the root check shows that the phone is not rooted.
Then, I bench marked it with Geekbench 4 and and Antutu. The result from Geekbench 4 is normal at 1690 and 3781 for single and muti-core while the results fro Antutu showed an abnormal ROM score (see picture). The device test with Antutu does show all specification are met.
Can someone knows more about this phone let me know if what kind of phone I got.
Thanks,
hochoi

Then, I bench marked it with Geekbench 4 and and Antutu. The result from Geekbench 4 is normal at 1690 and 3781 for single and muti-core while the results fro Antutu showed an abnormal ROM score (see picture). The device test with Antutu does show all specification are met.
Can someone knows more about this phone let me know if what kind of phone I got.
Thanks,
hochoi

The software version posted on HTC website is for US Unlocked.
The one you have is WWE and has the last available update for WWE.
It doesn't sound like you have anything to really be concerned about.

Thanks, Santod. This eases my nerve a bit. I just learned that WWE is World Wide Edition? The benchmark from Antutu from ROM showed abnormal score is also not a concern? How's about the Quick Charge not working as it should? LTE speed is also much slower compared to Nexus 5. Is there a reason for that?

You really shouldn't worry about antutu score, i got it also with the stock rom... About network speed, htc 10 should definitely get better speed but maybe it was just poor reception... Try to find some htc imei check to check your device...i think that is the best way to see if it is real or fake... I also think that it is real...good luck

Thanks, krokanic. I used swappa to check. The result was no result for the ESN and the device does not appear on the blacklist. What does this mean with the ESN? Is it because the phone is a WWE? oTHER imei check did not provide meaningful details. However, when using imei24.com, I got more details (see picture). The part which caught my eyes is the warranty start and end. Does this mean the phone was activated on 6/30/2016? If it is, it can not be a new phone. The internet speed is also strange. I used the same sim for the nexus5 and this one, htc phone is always much slower.
Just boot to download mode and check the specs, if there is no download mode it's a fake, if there are things in download mode you don't understand you write them down here.
The date could also be production date, this device model is almost 3 years old. It's no longer in production so you will never get a "new" device. Maybe one new in the box but the production date will never be from this January for example.
Don't trust those imei check sites too much, i have different outcomes on different imei check websites. It's an indication but don't lean to much on them.

Thanks, Mr Hofs. I understand that this phone is not in production anymore. I was hoping to get one of the last few. Please take a look at the picture and help me check if there is anything not normal. I put arrows next to some of the items. If there is an explanation for those, it is appreciated.

It's a geniune HTC 10, no doubt there. Only thing is that the bootloader is locked and you have S-OFF status, that is not a bad thing at all but it could well be a second hand one because S-OFF is usually done via the developers of "sunshine" and not factory stock.
You can install the sunshine app (check the S-OFF sunshine xda thread) and walk through the steps, if it proceeds without payment it's already registered there and therefore definetly a second hand device.
Oh and the fused status is pretty normal.

@santod040 knows more about that too i believe
But that's about it.

Thank you so much, Mr Hofs. It is a good news to learn that this is a genuine device. If the bootloader is locked, does it prevent me from "playing around" with the phone?
I still have not fully understood what you explained about sunshine but will work on it. Hope to continue to get your guidance along the way.
Is this http://theroot.ninja/ what you mentioned about sunshine? I need to download the apk file and install it to the phone? If it went through without asking for the money, it is a second hand device? This phone was sold as an unlocked one. Is it possible that the S-off is related to this unlock?

Unlocked model typically means it's network unlocked.
That's completely different than bootloader unlocked.
Most devices are carrier unlocked by default now, due to fcc regulations.
In order to "play" around with it, s-off is all that's required, bootloader can remain locked.
I notice it also has Super CID.

Therootninja is indeed what i was referring to. Proceed as been mentioned. Sunshine will never be done by HTC itself so therefore it is a second hand device if it is registered.
Santod040 has put some light on the unlocked thing already ?

Thanks, santod. I will read a bit more to learn what super CID is.
Is it safe t install the apk file from http://theroot.ninja/ to see if the phone is a second hand device? I got a warning when trying to download it.

Am I right to think that the slow charge with a quick charger can be caused by a defective charger, not the phone or the battery? It has been 33' and it only charge from 11% to 29%. Definitely too slow.
Just got the second HTC in. And the quick charger is actually working fine on the new phone. So, the slow charge is on the phone or the battery. I hope someone can give a tip to determine the real cause.

With super CID you can install any RUU package. However, you won't be able to get OTA Updates. OTA really doesn't matter anymore because they stopped @ Oreo 8.1 If you want Android Pie 9.0 you can read the Lineage OS 16 thread, the latest build seems fairly stable.
Some of these slow chargers aren't built very well. I just bought a used HTC 10 for my wife and all the accessories were new, but the new charger didn't work at all. Another possibility, it might not be a quick charger. Read the Amps on it. Should be 5v @ about 2Amps anything below 2 amps is a slow charger.
I see the charger worked with your newer phone, so I hope you aren't having battery issues (it's buried pretty deep under the board) not impossible to change, but not for the light hearted either. Maybe a senior member can suggest a battery diag tool or something else to help with that.

Thanks for your input, mudrunner. The charger is definitely fine. I probably will request a replacement. Both phones looks fantastic cosmetically and run fairly well. Is there a way to check if it is a refurbished or used phone?
Just my 2 cents.
To me, it personally looks like you got a (certified?) refurbished device, or one that is new condition and was re-packaged for sale. It being s-off and supercid to me, looks like someone used the phone and kept good care of it (esp. It being on the latest firmware as well) and that is what you bought, which is nothing wrong with that. It doesn't surprise me to see ppl seeking out a new HTC 10. It's a great device and the only phone I've had for more than 2 years.
As for the charger and some more ideas, it's possible you are on a custom rom (edited to look like stock, editing build.prop, removing superuser, etc), or even stock ruu and a rom was never flashed. Being supercid I think is either because it was changed to another variant, or it came this way from s-off (mine came back supercid when sent out for s-off) and maybe there's an issue with the rom, you could flash twrp and another rom if you were wanting to do that, and see.
One thing I suggest to also check is what your battery capacity is at. Accubattery is a good app on the playstore that gives you an estimate. An example for me, I've had my phone since Verizon launch day and am pretty lucky to have it at around 77% considering the usage I've gotten out of it over the past few years and all the rom flashing. For the past 8 months or so I only charge the device to 85% each day and charge it before bed and I usually have about 30% left. I only charge to 100% when I know I will need it, but the accubattery app will explain why I chose to do this.
May I ask where you bought it?

Thanks for your inputs, anybones. I like the sound quality of this phone a lot. I think it is way better than Pixel 2. I bought it on ebay from a Chinese seller (with decent reputation of 98.5%). I knew the risk and was hoping to get one of the last phones still around. I tend to agree with you on the refurbished/second hand aspect. I have to say that the phone look and feel are fantastic. It may be given a brand new case (they definitely can easily do that if they want to). I used Accubattery to check the battery too and it is only 2000 which is not so great! Battery is one of the ticking point for me since the battery of this phone is not easy to replace. Other than the battery, the benchmarks on the phone are subpar but acceptable.

I personally am on nougat crdroid rom, love it.
Accubattery gets "smarter" I guess is the word, the longer you have and use it, so keep it installed, I've had it for almost a year, low app battery footprint. For awhile mine was saying 72% but has been at 77% since I've been just basically making sure I have a charge cable on me, and charge it to 85% max unless I need a full charge which never happens, only time I've been going above 85% us when I miss the alarm I set for when it reaches certain percentages - - if u use GSam battery monitor, I use that. Hopefully with time you will get a better reading. I agree, I feel the lag in my device, but I also only reboot the phone maybe 2-3 times a month.
