Hi,
Recently my battery stopped charging beyond the 89% mark and now people say that I need to get a new battery. I'm thinking if I should I may go for a long lasting one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-Ori...ccessories&hash=item2a22467775#ht_2796wt_1397
But I've heard that as the NFC key is encrypted in the battery people have had issues where the NFC stopped working or such. What should I check for to guarantee that it wouldn't be the case with this one?
Thanks in advance for your help.
P.S.: Still for the time being if someone can help with the 89% charge issue, that'd be great.

Battery is just holding the NFC antenna.

The battery only contains an antenna for NFC. The actual NFC chip is in the phone itself.
Oh ok! Thanks for the correction guys.
Does this mean that I can safely go with any battery out there? Or the one that I linked?

The one you linked to appears to be a Samsung battery. It will support NFC. If you buy a battery without an NFC antenna, it will still power your phone but NFC won't work.
If you are on Sprint you can call telesales and they will send you the extended battery and door for free just pay for shipping. The extended batt is a 2100Mah instead of the 1850Mah original.

Thanks guys for all your help. Just ordered the battery from the link above. Hope that it works fine and at least would be a good upgrade from the stock one.

I plan on buying the Samsung 2000mAh battery myself as soon as my current one becomes insufficient.
Well the current one that I have started dying on me twice a day without any drastic changes to my usage. So I think it was a faulty one anyway before this issue started.
Will see how the 2000mAh one fares for my heavy use.

I just tried the battery and it still won't charge beyond the 84% mark now. So I'm now completely confused on what to do with it? Does anyone has any clue? I'm using the Franco Kernel, does it have anything to do with that?
Thanks.

One way to find out- try a different kernel. If that doesn't work, try a factory reset. If that doesn't work, try a different rom. If it still does the same thing, it's time for a new phone.

Tried a different ROM and the stock kernel. Doesn't help. The charging still stops at 89% or whatever random number it wants to. I really don't want to send this back, I just hope there was a way to fix it.
But I think the way back is the only way. Will talk to my carrier then.
Thanks guys for all your help. :good:
Same problem here...
After upgrading to 4.2.1, battery stoped charging to 100%
Now charges to 64%, and if I remove it goes down to 4% then increase around 30%
Not sure if the problem is with the battery.
Tried eveything else aound: Kernels, Stock Brazilian ROM (all versions), Stock Google Images, MIUI, CM9, CM10 and CM10.1
Really sad about that.
Sorry for tha bad engrish...

I have the exact same problem after just 2 months of using this device. The problem first happened when i upgraded to the 4.2.1 takju JOPD firmware! The phone almost goes dead in 6hrs with minimal talk time, and a charge stops at 84%!
Unfortunately, I got this device while in the US from playstore, and now I am back in India. Not even sure of the warranty coz I have rooted this device.
Can anyone please advice?
I'm not sure if this could help, but have you tried draining your battery first (until it powers off) and then charging it to full without turning it on? I've read somewhere (don't remember where but I think it was here on xda) that the battery statistics become more inaccurate over time if you don't drain it to zero at times. I think it's called power cycling which is a good practice to have longer battery lifespan. I hope this helps

Actually, it shortens the battery lifespan exponentially. Full discharge of a lithium-ion battery is unhealthy. Likewise, complete power cycles shorten the battery's serviceable life.
If you suspect the battery's internal fuel gauge to be inaccurate, you could do this once in a blue moon, bearing in mind the unintended consequences.

Hello everyone.
So my problem started few days ago. I flashed slim ice v3.9 and done upgrade to v4.0 day after. After that my battery just gone bonkers. First it do not display correctly inside settings>battery. It shows 1m but once you click on the graph it states 55m for example. It drains like crazy and most of the time shows charging.
I thought maybe something is wrong with the from so I flashed liquid and than come back to good old apex.
However the problem stayed through all of the rooms and settings. I have done countless reflashes and wipes but no joy. In all of the cases I have used Franco's kernel as I never had any issues and it was always good.
Any ides? Even now writing this I have charging icon on my battery but I am not charging it :|.

Hi, I personally didn't have those problems, but my friend had some similar. Try these tips, they are unrelated to each other, just random ideas:
Wipe battery stats in recovery
Try cleaning battery contacts
Clean USB with soft tooth brush
Check what exactly is eating your battery - it could just be some buggy app
Hi thx for the ideas. First three didn't work so far. I will give them another go later today. What app would you recommend to search for the rouge one? Never had such an issue so no clue which is best.

I use just the stock battery stats. But there may be better options.
Thx guys for the info.
Ill try BBStats later on.
So far i am not having big drain (lately about <1% ~ hour)
It is just that the charging icon is presistant. I have tried wiping and such and is still there. NOt really life threatning but just confusing/annoying.
Any ideas here? And small issue of the stock battery display/stat displaying completly wrong informations.
Regards.
hi again
Scrap the battery is ok now. Last night it draind 8-10% and hour 76% around 10pm and 14% 6:30 am this morning.
Than between 6:30 and 7:30 it drained all 14% while saying charging all the way along.
Shall i revert back to stock and re root?
Regards.

Hello All
So, on my GSM Galaxy Nexus, i clean flashed the CodeNameAndroid ROM, and still using the Stock Kernel that comes with it.
My issue is, when i charge my phone, the battery is charged to 91% and stops there, it keeps charging, but never goes above 91% and the charging does not stop too...
I did a battery stats wipe, i replaced the battery with a new one, same thing, took phone under warranty, workshop tech said nothing is wrong with the phone....
I'm galmost giving up on this, it's really annoying, if anyone can help, a cash reward will be sent your way through PayPal, upto $100 because i love my GNex and not planning on replacing it.

I was running Android Revolution HD 6.0.1 ROM 1st, combined with franco Kernel r281 .. then saw the ROM got an update to 6.1.0, so i fully wiped my GNex, flashed 6.1.0 and then flashed Trinity Kernel.
Since then, i had the battery issue.
Now, running CNA ROM 3.6.6, and just few seconds ago i flashed franco Kernel r282 which is the latest nightly build, i have the phone on charge now, let's see how it goes

Hey!
The last few days I noticed some strange behavior of my battery...
Just look at the screenshots..
The bar suddenly goes down, and then goes up, while I was NOT CHARGING! I was at school all the 9 hours! I wasnt even able to charge it. As I said, I was at school, and I definitly have no charger with me.
How the heck is that possible..?
I mean, I was looking through my Galery, when my Phone suddenly turns off.(had 48% battery b4 it crashed) I rebooted the device and suddenly it sais: battery low...
I was about to smash it... I mean that is really p... Me off... Sorry for the language, but I have this mobile one year now, and I have lots of errors, even on stock rom!
So lets take a look at the second screenshot...
I was just messaging with my gf via WhatsApp...
You see how long my battery lasts?
I took the screenshot, and went to the XDA App afterwards, to ask over here.
Well, I just had to plug in the charger, so It won't turn off while Im typing...
That is just horrible!
Im on CWM Flashable Stock Rom (XLMD or.smth. Like that..)
Device is NOT rooted.
I had some other Samsung Phones in the past.. But honestly, after this Phone.. I hate Samsung. Just hate samsung mobiles.
My next phone is gonna be HTC or iPhone.
HTC's Design is way better, Hardware, Software, the Platform (Sense) is awesome. I mean wtf is touchwiz...
Sorry for beeing mad at the wonder... Im just annoyed by this phone, and I have to keep it for another year.. :/
What can I do..?
What other battery can you recommend for me..?
Help me out, pls
EDIT: screens coming in a few minutes. Tapatalk is not working -.-

My first thoughts are that it IS the battery. Some of the symptoms you've described are the same as what I experienced. It got to the point with my phone, that from FULLY charged, I could send one text and the phone would switch off. You also say that the phone is a year old....I'd say there's a high probability that you need to replace your battery. Take the battery out of your phone and look for signs of swelling (I had to replace mine after 7 months). I brought mine (a 1700 mA unit) from amazon for £5. And now my phone's fine.....I'd recommend this route over smashing your phone lol.....

Can you give me a Link to the 1700ampere battery ? Gonna buy it..

I would appreciate the link, and order right now

That's certainly the battery's problem and not software problem.
Try callibrate your battery and if that doesn't work, you should really get yourself a new battery.

If it's any consolation, battery issues with smart phones are quite a common occurrence no matter who makes the phone.....be thankful you don't have an iPhone otherwise you'd have to unsolder the battery to remove it.......

Hi Guys,
I have spent days researching this, and have read dozens of forum posts, but nothing has worked. Here's the problem- I bought a used GNEX off of Craigslist. The phone looks great and seems to work well. But, it won't show a charge beyond about 70%.
I thought the battery might be the issue, so i bought an a new OEM extended battery, but the new battery didn't make any difference. It still won't show a charge above 70% no matter how long I leave it on the charger (with the phone turned on or off). I have done probably 20 discharge/recharge cycles, but nothing changes.
Next, I bought an external charger. When I fully charge the battery in the external charger and pop it in the phone, it still shows around 70%. So, it is definitely an issue with the phone (not the batteries).
I've also tried four different ROMs, as well as all the black-magic "battery calibration" tricks found in the forums, but nothing helps.
I am totally stumped! Is there anyway I can fix this?
Thanks!
Slim
Please HELP! More info.
Hi guys,
Just an update. Yesterday I tried three different kernels, just in case that might make a difference. No luck. The kernels didn't make a difference.
Any advice on how I can make this phone handle battery levels correctly? It's been on the charger all night and only shows 66% charge.

try an app named "BatteryCalibration" by marosige. When opened it shows the in circuit battery voltage. 3600-3700mV is to be expected from a well charged and in good shape battery. We seam to be having the same issues with mine having progressed to showing 0%. I have a recent thread here as well. I have read that the recovery battery stat wipe is just for the application level, but I think there must be a file or setting somewhere that maps mV to %'s and that this is what needs wiped/reset.
Anyone overhere still having issues?
I updated my thread on a similar if not the same problem, and am looking for some volunteers to help gather a little data. I would like for one or more persons to install SL4A and python, run a script and report findings. If you are willing please post a reply in my thread.
Thank you
Hi
'Noob' here, be gentle, please.
My original Desire is 2.5 years old. So is the battery that started playing up.
It didn't last long and the phone kept suddenly switching off at about 50%. I guess it's a pretty common problem: Htc Desire Shuts down at 40-50% battery
So, I've bought a new one, "aoonen".
The new problem is that it stacks at 15% when charging.
The LED light turns green and it shows in the Status: Battery status - Full, Battery level - 15%.
Sometimes after plugging out an back in it starts charging and shows 16-17% for some time, but soon it stops and shows 15% again.
If the phone is switched off, the LED turns to amber and remains amber, but the battery seems not to be charging as the phone remains cool and it's the same 15% when switched back on in few hours.
It's original HTC charger and cable, but I did try other cables and PC USB ports to no avail.
Factory reset did not help.
Neither did booting to recovery with wiping all caches and battery statistics.
If I replace the new battery with the old one it shows 100%.
Android 2.3.7 installed by my son (I am no expert in this) in Nov 2012.
Kernel 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-g2a32ab1 [email protected] #31. I still have cm-7.2.0.1-bravo.zip on the SD card and used it for the recovery.
If it's of any importance, before buying the new battery I tried using some apps (uninstalled now) that didn't help: Battery Calibration and Easy Battery Calibration.
I like my Desire, I fits all my needs and I am very reluctant to replace it.
Will be grateful for any ideas and advices.
you deserve credit for researching your problem thoroughly .
to be honest, just sounds like a fake/counterfeit battery. it doesn't look like a reputable brand to me.
you've tried calibrating the original battery and still get early shutdowns?
i take it you still need a new one, personally i would recommend official battery if you can find it, you get what you pay for.

If nothing helps try new battery. Maybe new one is fake.

It was mentioned somewhere as a good brand. And what's the point in faking/counterfeiting some unreputable brand? This was exactly my thought that a 'genuine' battery is far more likely to be fake.

Did you try to wipe battery stats through cwm? Battery calibration should do this but you can try manual also through cwm?
If nothing helps try new battery. Maybe new one is fake.

What's 'cwm'?

It was mentioned somewhere as a good brand. And what's the point in faking/counterfeiting some unreputable brand? This was exactly my thought that a 'genuine' battery is far more likely to be fake.
TBH, I have no idea how to calibrate it. I just ran the above apps (one, later another) and they said that it was calibrated, but nothing changed.
"if you can find it" - absolutely. Any recomendations?
Also, my battery is BB99100, but often I see BA S410 for Desire that looks similarly. What's the difference?

no, i've never replaced my original battery after nearly 3 years now probably should, so can't give any recommendations as to where to buy one.
it's a minefield, but be thankful that it's relatively easy to buy a replacement, unlike some new high end phones.
calibration should only be done with proper apps, this is the only one i know of that works, you have to find and follow the instructions carefully, though i've never done it myself. my battery still dies anywhere in between 15% and to 6%, which i can live with and just gotten used to. however if yours is dying at 40-50% it's likely that it's aged beyond its working life.
cwm is short for clockworkmod, he is suggesting you wipe battery stats there, but this myth has been debunked for a while that it does not calibrate the battery in any way.

me too, i dont know

Some user says there: "You must read the tutorial on XDA if you want this to work. Follow it step by step."
Anybody knows where it is at XDA?

Real calibration is done by:
- wait until the battery is completely empty and the phone shuts down
- insert a charger immediately but leave the phone OFF
- wait until the phone is fully charged
This worked perfectly for me!

took a bit of searching around, but here
ignore the fact it is in nexus one thread, works for desire and compatible kernel, read carefully, try and see if it makes a difference.
