FPse ROMS - loading as audio? - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

I have a rooted Samsung galaxy S plus, it manages to play some FPse (ps1 emulator) games just fine.
Driver for instance, which is surprising as on the ps1 it could at times seem a bit juddery, I used magic ISO and Power ISO for the img rips.
But other games I've gotten as .Bin/.Cue files from my own cds mostly boot up into the ps1's audio player.
FF7, Tekken 2 & 3, Metal Gear Solid etc, it's frustrating as they are from good cds.
Have tried configuring the settings in various ways but it doesn't want to read them as games..
If anyone could offer some insight I'd be grateful! (is beginning to make this emulator feel a waste of money, even if only £2)

[Q] Snes Emulation woes - Latency and Emulation problems

Hello all.
I am having problems with emulation on my newly purchased xperia play.
I downloaded snesoid because I was recommended to get it by a friend *and apparently the internet is crazy about it*. When I tried playing Megaman X on it, there was very noticeable slowdown. The first stage *highway* ran at noticeably slower speeds than it did on the snes. It was playable, but felt sluggish. At first I was okay with this, but then I played it on my friend's phone just to test it out, and his was runninghttp://media.xda-developers.com/images/editor/menupop.gif it perfectly.
Does anyone know why that may be?
I also downloaded snes9x ex to test it out, and the app runs great! Problem with this app, unfortunately, is the VERY noticeable input latency. It makes platformers really odd to play on with.
I tried Seiken Densetsu 3 on Snesoid as well, and that game glitches out every conversation that comes up. The screen will flicker for a second. Very jarring.
Has anyone else experienced these kind of things with theirs, and if so, does anyone know a fix for this?
If this is phone specific, I am just going to return it since it only has been a day and just get a new one, but I want to make sure I can't do anything to fix it on my end before hand, this way I can at least learn something about these phones if there is a fix I CAN do at home, since I currently am a huge phone noob.
Something very interesting I just noticed.
Just tried Megaman X2 and X3 and those games run perfectly.
Color me confused.
Yea, SNES9x plays better with less glitches, but has noticeable button lag. Took forever for me to beat DKC, especially the mine cart stages.
Im sorry to hear about your problem mate but mine seems to run all of the games perfectly smooth. Ive had no such issues yet regarding the snesoid emulator.
If you feel strongly about it I would suggest trying out a new sexplay.
Also note the programs you have running in your running services log. Something there may be interfering with your gameplay. I can't seem to use Swiftkey X on my Xplay as it causes lag that kills the experience on nearly every game I play.
But the button lag is something you will have to deal with on any XPlay and SNES9x. Unfortunate, and hopefully will be fixed by the author at some point.
Is there button input lag with Snes A.D (free emulator on market) ?
Could someone test it for me ? I'm supposed to get the phone next week, and I chose it especially for emulation so I'd be disappointed if there are any issues with SNES games.
Have had not any issues with these games.
I use SnesOid and TigerSNES - both free.
same here, gensoid running silky smooth, fpse running perfectly fine, tiger arcade for th e most games also good, but imho useless cause no dip switch access or neo geo rom settings(tried that mame4all but no thanks, seems it support only legacy roms, don`t wanna convert all my roms for that program, the few that were running on mame4all were also laggy)
but snesoid(latest version) isn`t running good,as i stated in another thread.
for example super castlevania 4,it doesn`t matter if frameskip is on or off,set to manual or auto,it`s far away from running smooth, there is a slight stuttering when you look at the background as your character moves forward-also numerous other games..tried snes 9x or what is called, realized it doesn`t load any of my snes roms because it cant read .zip files, only .smc and even with .smc it won`t open some roms.i`ll try this tiger snes now
Hated SNES A.D. looking for a good emu right now too.
when u complain about noticeable input lag in snes9x, what kind of games are u playing? ive never really had any issues with it since its around a 10th of a second (tbh i doubt id ever of noticed it playing things like super metroid)
all of my games are in .zip files and ive never had any issues with the emulator at all, destroys snesoid imo. i do hope that the input lag is fixed, but overall i think its a much better emulator than anything else available.
I sure would like to try snes9x.... can't find it though! Little help?

i noticed just earlier after i posted realizing i hadn't received an update in some time. It appears to have been removed from the market, odd considering that all his other emulators are still there and one of his main selling points was compliance with the gpl of snes9x (the reason it was free as opposed to his other emulators)
the website is http://www.explusalpha.com/home
Robert Brogalia is the devs name, check out his other apps, they all get fantastic feedback.
Oh my god! This emulator is amazing! Everyone get it. This should just come on the phone..... LOL

u can change the dpi of the menus, turn off that shocking linear filtering that snesoid and all them use(i like me some retro blockiness) and it doesnt appear but when scrolling through lists thumb scroll works just fine.
Looks like I have to start over on Zelda, guess the saves are different from snesnoid. So worth it though.

u just have to change the extention to the same one used in snes9x...if i recall snesoid uses .sav, snes9x uses .sma or something, i got all mine working so if u fiddle u should get it, afaik quicksaves are a no-go however, just the battery backup works.
Snesoid is based on the snes9x source anyway......

if people are finding solutions that work better for them thats a good thing, i dont care if the source is the same, i find it to be a better emulator. i will say i initially bought all yonghz apps including n64oid.
Goping back on topic i just got myself a Play today, and i have major problems with games on gameboid, genesoid, snesoid theyw ill jump around and skip frames. I know why it's becuase it has frameskip set to 2 by default. If i set it to 0 then the audio produces an annoying stuttering and clicking. I just don't belive this ive seen thousands of videos showing th performance and sound of the games and its perfect. Ive even rooted and stripped my Play of some apps too. Now im really at wits end this thing wont emulate any game perfectly... What can i do????

Trust me mate, I've tried everything on both of my Xperia Plays. One stock, and one overclocked to 1.6ghx with CyanogenMod 7.
I'm at the same stage... I set games to 0 frameskipping and most games run perfectly, however if I enable the sound I get this horrible crackle (and with TigerMAME 3.0.3 noticable lag spikes - which is a damn shame). I think most of these emus need optimising for Xperia Play.
'Perfect' is such an over-used term these days... However these are the best emus of the bunch in my opinion... Trust me, I'm extremely anal when it comes to emulation.
TigerMAME 3.0.3 - With sound disabled can run games like Gigawing and Mars Matrix perfectly. I really hope the audio can be optimised. I'm currently playing the above two games with my own music playing in the background until then. Also, I believe older versions of Tiger run more games than this release...
MAME4Droid - Good for games which fall under the old MAME romset. Most games run smooth with audio (a lot of older games run perfectly) and the amount of CPU/audio customisation is unrivaled.
SNES9X EX - Runs games perfectly (excluding the Mode-7 heavy titles), with only slight audio crackle... Hoping for this to be resolved soon.
MD.EMU - The best Genesis/Megadrive emu around, same dev as SNES9X EX. Does the job where others fail (ie: near perfect Sonic 3 performance). Some audio problems here also.
GBAoid - Seems to work perfectly with everything I've tried. I need to put more research into GBA emu.

[Q] Slowdown in Emulators

Bear with me people as im pretty new to this
Ive got all the decent emualtors onto my Xperia play. SNES / Genesis / GBA / Gameboy etc and they all play fine.
I do notice however that on all the emulators if i set the frame skip to auto, then the sound if perfect, but the frame rate skips sometimes which is more annoyance than anything but still noticeable
If i change the frame skip to zero then the frame rate is buttery smooth but then i get cracks and pops in the sound (all emulators)
Now my question is, is that is this an issue with the emulators or an issue with the play being just not quite quick enough to play these perfectly.
And also, im planning on rooting my phone so obviously if i was to have a slight overclock on my phone, say from 1GHZ to 1.2 or 1.3, would this actually make a difference to them in terms of playing absolutely full speed, or would it make no difference at all?
well thats a tough question,
you can get sound issues when a device is struggling to play a game
and when the device can play the game full speed but the emulator has issues
i too have alot of emulators
marvin - spectrum
gensoid - mega drive
fpse - ps1
gearoid - game gear
tiger arcade
pce - pc engine
snezoid -super nintendo
jarcade - arcade/ mame roms
n64oid - n64
mame4droid
now the only two that gave me sound issues were n64oid and fpse
but since i have rooted my phone and removed bloatware and overclocked
to 1.4
those issues are more or less gone
apart from n64oid do get jittering now and then
but i think that running a n64 on a phone is a feat in itself
yes overclocking does make a difference to running games/emus
more horsepower = smoother gaming
i do recommend rooting
remove bloatware
and overclocking

FPSE.. best settings?? Help please if you know the answer.

So, I love my xperia play... I love the built in playstation emulator as well.. however as you all know, the native emulator doesn't support all ps1 titles (although using the software rendering trick, it does support a LOT ) ... anyway, I've resorted to using PSX4Droid V 1.12 for the games that do not run on PS Pocket, but PSX4Droid is more or less laggy at times, and although games are playable, it grates on my last nerve to the point where I don't even want to play them. (Yeah, that sounds dumb, but that's just me.. ) So after doing some reading on the web and these forums, I've found that most people use FPSE, and find it to run games very nicely. I bought the emulator from the playstore, and I've got it up and running to the best settings that I could get. Here's the thing though... It lags almost worse than PSX4Droid does if I have it set on the best graphic settings... (Framelimiter, frameskip, skip fix, fast draw, screen filtering, enhanced 3D rendering, Hardware acceleration)
I've read that turning off screen filtering helps it to run faster, I've tried this but my graphics kinda suck =/ ... perhaps its just laggy on the games I'm running??? FF7, FF8, FF9, and Chrono Cross...
Ideas? Suggestions?? They're welcome
After using psx4droid (version 2) to play FFVIII on my NOOK Tablet, I switched over to playing on the Xperia Play and converted my save files to FPse.
The video settings I use on FPse for FFVIII:
-Framelimiter
-Fastdraw
I get a pretty consistent 50-60 FPS until I get to the world map then it drops to around 45 FPS. Still very playable.
*Side note: use Spusync to improve your sound, even though it still might not be perfect.
As said, some games works well, many don't. Mostly sound is distorted as hell. Any fix, i take!
what are you running on zach
are you on a stock play???
Yeah for now.. stock play r800x rooted... unlocked BL.. Sometimes I switch it up to Cyanogen..

Games, emulators (PSP & others) - gameplay & tutorials

Update 1: 12 Nov 2016
Since I don't have the Note 7 anymore, all this thread is continued in Galaxy S7 Edge forum.
I will not post here anymore.
You can go here for my latest post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/themes/best-android-apps-games-tutorials-t3482704
Thanks.
I am super happy with my Note 7 (version 2 replaced).
I have no problems at all with this device.
It is a super "gaming machine".
I really like the PSP emulator. I recomend it.
Do you use any other emulators?
Here are some of my gameplays on PSP + stock market games
Here is the the tutorial for how to configure / use the PSP emulator on Android & run games
Extreme gameplay? Note 7 can handle.
I made a test with multiple games: GTA, Assassin Creed, Valiant Hearts, Real Racing 3, ShadowGun.
Note 7 is amazing. Just watch my test.
The phone doesn't heat. Everything is smooth.
The first one (version 1 before the replacement) had some issues.
What do you use to play?
Any good games? Or new games?
Some recommended setting in ppsspp... I would reference the site I got it from... but forgot where...
Mode: Non-buffered rendering
Frameskipping: 1 or 3 "read online some run better with odd number and other might be better with even numbers"
Prevent FPS from exceeding ON
Alt. Speed: Unlim
Hardware transform ON
Vertex cache ON
Timer hack ON
Disable alpha test ON "i left this one off though as it wont render like rain in FFT right"
Disable stencil test ON
Always write depth ON
System:
Fast memory ON
Change CPU clock: 400 "I personally put this similar to psp mem clock like 333 or 444"
JIT ON
Anyways I did transform my note 7 when i had it into a massive emu machine... then my vita got updated to a better emulation mode... lol so now I'm using that again for emulation gaming. I still will leave the emu on the phone for backup gaming or let other play.
List of emu I made a decision on:
GBA.emu
Snes9x EX+
Nes.emu
Genesis
PPSSPP
Gensoid
Mupen64Plus FZ Edition
ePSXe
Gemboy!
I was also looking into controllers for it too but no longer need it cause of the Vita.
Power A Moga
Gamesir
SteelSeries
Ive been using retroarch which uses the libreto API to emulate basically anything you can think of, and downloads the cores required to play whatever ROMs you put on your SD card.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.retroarch&hl=en
I use it mainly for SNES and Megadrive (aka Genesis) emulation, but works well with PS1
Using either one Retro or the standalone one I mention will need Bios files for psx, nes, and gba. Just like other forums it not allow to tell you where to get it but google it ^_^.... Same go for roms...
For RetroArch you put those files in the system folder and the others is either the main folder or the "bios" folder.
One thing i dont like about retroarch on phone atm is the retroarch bar that you cant hide without hiding the controls. It might beable to be disable but idk yet
SCPH1001.Bin, gba_bios.bin, and disksys.rom = psx, gba, and nes

Tekken 6 - psp gameplay emulator on Note 7 Exynos & any Android phone
I discovered that if we change the resolution of Note 7 from 2k to 1920, all games from psp will work perfect on highest settings, even the star war. Great discovery.

A good question

Emulators - which one

Been using the command line for just about everything.
I do quite a bit of work as I have 2 rooted boxes and one running the Google Play store (among other things).
What emulator seems to be best - time to move from the CL to a GUI.
Which is best?
Emulators for what? (Command line?) On what Box? You've been using a CLI for everything so far? Like what? You do quite a lot of work? Thats remarkable. Let me congratulate you on that.
If you want recommendations on emulators for old video game systems - ask again, I might provide you with a detailed answer - even though this thread so far seems like it wants to bait information by sounding like you are a techy person yourself (ey, buddy, buddy) although none of the statements above makes much sense.
If I am mistaken and you want recommendations for the best Terminal emulator out there, I don't know. But try "Terminal Emulator" first, because thats usually what everyone uses when it comes to terminal emulators..
---------- Post added at 09:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:35 AM ----------
Oh, what the - I have the time, so why not...
If other people read this thread, looking for video game emulator recommendations.
Retroarch for everything thats not CPU intensive to emulate. Because it is a one stop setup solution for many (most) systems. Also it has the only implementation of ScummVM thats actually usable with a controller. (If you use scummvm - swapping to the new GUI theme (you have to find it as a zip file on the web) is much easier on the eyes, just fyi)
I use version 1.3.0 - because newer versions produced slowdowns on PCSX Rearmed. Havent tested the most recent builds though.
If you are on a Fire TV Stick, use either Snes9xEX version 1.5.1. or 1.5.27 (I think I stuck to 1.5.1) for SNES games as using other emulators/builds might result in performance issues http://www.explusalpha.com/home/snes9x-ex/downloads
If you are on a Fire TV 2 (as supposed to a Fire TV Stick, havent tested the Fire TV 1):
For most PSX games use ePSXe, most recent version.
For PSP Games use PPSSPP, most recent version.
For DS Emulation use DraStic (hard to set up, because its a paid emu, and Play Store licensing doesn't work in this case - had to resort to illicit means to get it working)
For Dreamcast emulation, use reicast (most recent beta build ( http://builds.reicast.com/ ), but it also depends on the game).
For N64 emulation use Mupen64Plus FZ Edition - its by far the best one. Most recent build should be fine as well.
Dolphin is a non starter on the AFTV2.
As for PPSSPP and ePSXe, learn what the settings do - which setting enables hardware acceleration, which setting disables certain effects - it usually is the difference between a game being perfectly playable or dropping frames. Don't resort to Youtube tutorials. Read up on the settings instead.

You can use the n and b keys on your keyboard to navigate forwards and backwards in the single image view.
edit: Also - consider buying a Xiaomi Game Controller, because it is cheap and has a great digipad. To get the best results out of this controller, be rooted and change line 42 in the Vendor_2836_Product_0001.kl file in /system/usr/keylayout/ from
key 0x13f HOME ALT #Long Press
to
key 0x13f BUTTON_START #Long Press
Otherwise, you will end up in the Amazon launcher in a few emulators that don't prevent this from happening. (It prevents this isue: https://www.reddit.com/r/fireTV/comments/5d9ptb/amazon_fire_tv_box_xbox_360_dongle_issues/ - but understand, that there are different kl files you have to edit for different controllers)
If you have issues with the controller going to sleep and then refusing to reconnect within an emulator - use a rubber band to pin the right stick to a tilt. Most games you emulate won't use the right stick, and this prevents the controller from turning off.
Not sure, if it helps in every case, but also google for
Bluetooth Auto Connect lag
and read up on how to potentially minimize the input lag from a Bluetooth controller using the Bluetooth Auto Connect app. Understand that in more recent versions the layout of the app has changed.
Also - just FYI, all the games you see in the images above are perfectly playable - for the beat em ups this means no framedrops whatsoever, on the other games - if there are framedrops, I havent noticed them.
The only exception is Tekken 3 running with upscaling on ePSXe. If you use Retroarch and PCSX Rearmed to emulate it (even with scanlines ) it runs frame perfect. (on Retroarch 1.3.0 that is - I just checked it out with 1.3.6 on a much beefier Android device, and it still drops frames - although the textures look better. If you wan't better playability, stick to 1.3.0) Tekken 6 also runs without dropping frames, even with some upscaling, although you have to disable graphical effects, or you will get noticable drops. All other PSP games I tested play perfectly fine with effects enabled. All Dreamcast games I tested also run without dropping frames.
