Phone was working fine and I went to switch to airplane mode. All of a sudden it rebooted itself and got stuck on the spinning CM startup screen cirlce, I let it sit for about 10 minutes and never booted. Only option was a battery pull and after doing that I tried starting it up again and same thing, it sat at the spinning CM cirlce for about 10 minutes. Went into recovery and restored a nandroid from a few weeks ago that I know was working well and after start up it still got stuck at the spinning CM startup cirlce.
Before this issue the screen would dim after about 7 seconds while on the spinning CM cirlce then start up. Interesting thing I noticed is every time it would get stuck on the spinning CM startup circle the color never dimmed like usual to indicate the Nitest kernel kicked in. Any ideas on what to do besides odin back to fc09 and re-root? I'm at work right now so can't odin. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Try wiping everything in recovery, then restore your backup.

I'm having a similar problem; I'm way too ignorant to diagnose such problems using logs, so I have to resort to options that do not involve comprehension of Android. I'm running SlimBean 2.1; for the first few days it was brilliant, the best ROM I've tried yet. Then it got stuck in boot-up. I tried popping the battery, reflashing the ROM, wiping the three memory caches and reflashing the ROM, and met with minimal success. Sometimes it would boot, but usually it locked up first.
At a loss for what to try next, I popped out my microSD card and it booted fine. I then put the card in while the phone was running. Again, no problems yet. So now I'm backing up the card and I plan to reformat it and then see if the phone can reliably boot with it in. If so, I'll start re-adding data to the card from my backup until it stops being reliable again.
I'm posting these comments on the off chance that someone else is having these problems and reflashing the ROM doesn't help them.

Try wiping data, cache, dalvik cache, and format system then install the rom. If that doesn't work then you may need to delete the boot animation and I can walk you through how to do that but try wiping all 4 and flashing the rom first.

It's not too bad. Just gets a bit sluggish if there's too many apps in the multi-task list. I went into the performance settings and made it attempt to keep 100mb of RAM free at all times. Doesn't really keep all 100 free, it just keeps about 40-60 free. Also Bluetooth is flakey like any other 4.2.2 rom. (But i just remembered you don't use it.) Other than Bluetooth being flakey, it's a pretty stable DD. I was thinking about updating to v22.0.1 though. Or maybe i just might go back to v18 where Bluetooth works lol. Also I posted in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197759

I'm looking for a decent but most importantly stable ICS ROM with weather on the lockscreen (without use of 3rd party app) and the ability to turn off the battery icon in favor of a battery bar on the top. Any suggestions?

I've been having trouble flashing several ICS and JB ROMs lately which is hampering my testing. With an ICS and JB build of MIUI, they both hang on the MIUI boot screen. With ParanoidAndroid ICS, it hangs on the White HTC EVO 4G screen. In each case I've waited 20+ min.
I've Partitioned my SD card and upped it to ext4.
I've done a smelkus Superwipe.
I've wiped Caches
I've make sure not to flash or boot with the phone plugged in.
I've Fixed Permissions.
I've made sure to download via PC and push the ROM to my phone rather than download it directly to the phone
I've read a few issues with this in various threads but no solid solutions other than make sure the USB isn't plugged in but that didn't help me. Any suggestions on an ICS ROM that doesn't do this or a solution to fix it?

In case you're doing this, don't try to boot up an ICS or JB ROM with the USB Cable plugged in, or it won't boot

Ya, somebody told me that in the MIUI thread. I've tried half a dozen ROMs now with no luck. Papa Smurf, ParanoidAndroid ICS, Provision ICS, MIUI ICS, and MIUI JB. I was able to get swipers AOKP JB to work but after messing with installing other ROMs, I even tried Nandroid restoring back and it wouldn't boot. I also tried reinstalling SmelkusMOD just in case. All but ParanoidAndroid got me to the ROM splash screen while that one stopped at the white htc EVO 4G screen.
I'm finally resigned to go back to swipers GB MIUI. I have to admit that after trying a JB ROM, GB is soooo much faster but I miss some of the features in the newer ROMs. I was hoping ICS would be a good middle ground between speed and features but can't do that if I can't flash any of them.
Maybe format and re-partition your sd-card. I had trouble getting ics to boot with my 16gb card before so I use my old 8gb one that came with the phone and they seem to load fine.
What about Strike from Savoca?
I also wonder it this might get locked down due to the nature of the question?

*shrug* Maybe. I originally thought I was trying to find a stable ICS build but as I tested I found it looks like I need a stable phone instead (I get an upgrade in December... yay for either an Galaxy S3 or new Nexus if it comes out). If I need to create a new thread, I'd be happy to.
I'm just saying.
As a lot of people say ymmv!
I've had some work some not. A battery pull works sometimes, switching sd-cards another. Seems arbitrary at times

Then after leaving the phone on the charger at work yesterday, the phone kept resetting randomly. I unplugged it, hard reset, flashed a different rom, everything, and it still keep resetting randomly. Not sure what the problem is, any suggestions?
Edit: I'm a dumbass, realized my cpu was under clocked to 800mhz, running smooth at 1400mhz now.
okay, i'm not a dumbass (maybe). Phone keeps resetting on its own randomly still but less frequently after I overclocked.
How is your battery condition? Like how old is it? Do you have and tweaks (kobridge or phakker scripts)
Cpusleep app? And you said it happens on a few ROMs, I would say it maybe a battery or hardware issue. Also, do you check the MD5 sums before you flash the different ROMs?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Battery condition is good, I actually have two oem batteries that I use daily and swap them when one dies.
I'm not running any tweaks currently, but when I flashed the roms recently its been through a nandroid backup of my previous working rom. But I'll try a clean install without a backup and see if that works. Thanks

Okay, just did a fresh clean install from recovery. The phone still resets, I've noticed if it's plugged in to a charger though instead of resetting it will just turn off and show me the battery charging screen.
Also, how do you check the MD5 sums? I always thought the phone recovery automatically checks this before it flashes a rom?

Okay, I flashed a totally different ROM and it seemed to have solved the problem for now. Most likely it was a ROM issue, which is kind of weird since it was using the same rom before without any issues, even when I did a recovery of it. Oh well, maybe it was the right combination of apps and crap. But so far right now, everything is good. Thanks for the help g_ding84!
What were you using to under/overclock? Setcpu specifically has been known to cause the exact issue you were having, namely random reboots, however I would not be shocked to find other overclocking utilities that could cause the same problem. Regardless I'd be willing to bet that whatever you were were using to adjust the clock speeds was the source of the issue as opposed to the ROM.

You may be right on the money with that. It could be causing script confliction. Between the ROM and the CPU app. But I do know that cpu app scripts will override the ROMs cpu scripts, but not all the time.

Does it reboot in download mode? If not..I would odin to stock and go from there see if that fixes things.
Update: still resetting. :crying:
Today its been resetting probably about once every few minutes to ten minutes. It's stupid, like the battery will say 60% and when it reboots on its own, the battery will be at like 10%. No idea what the issue may be, but I might try to see if it will reboot in download mode as some of you suggest and maybe try to flash a stock rom. It seems that when it does go in reboot crackhead mode it will do it even in recovery.
The power button will not be as functional during the crackhead reboot mode as well. I'll press it and nothing will happen, but the screen will come on itself (not sure if this is a delay or just the screen coming on by itself lol).
I'm not too worried about exchanging it as of now, since I'm in the market for a new phone, but would like to fix this issue so I can sell the phone; if not I'll just do the trade in thing with Sprint (even though I won't get as much).

Huh sounds a bit like my phone. Does your data randomly wink out then takes a while to come back? With Juicedefender, occasionally data will not ever return without a reboot.

Yes it was just like that when I updated to Jelly Bean. Once I reverted back to ICS all was good again. I really want Jelly Bean but am worried that if I update again the same thing will happen.

Well in 4.1.2 (NexusMod Reloaded) with K3 modem, the data droppage rate was absolutely terrible. However with the h9 modem, it was more bearable. 3g would wink out for a couple seconds and reconnect immediately although juicedefender still wasnt working too well. I say, create a nandroid backup and flash a 4.1 rom of your choice. Run with it for a couple days and if youre still having issues, go back to your backup. As long as you don't upgrade your modem, shouldnt be too bad.

Try the update again and see what happens. Did you do a factory reset the last time you did the update? If not I would give that a try if the problem happens again after the update. Reading through various forums, it seems that a factory reset after the update has fixed some of the issues people are having.

It works fine though the new modem, k3, doesnt seem to work as well as h9.

I agree with this, I get about 25% greater d/l and 50% greater upload speeds with LH9 modem over the newer JB LK3...generally speaking. It fluctuates some though.

Odd...I've actually had exactly the opposite experience with the new modem. My cellular connection seems to be a bit stronger and my wifi range has increased significantly. Whereas with the H9 build, I could only go a couple of rooms over from the router in my house and still maintain a wifi connection. Now I can go anywhere inside the house and still have a connection.

I have used Bacon Rom , Loser Rom and stock rom with zero problems with data
Yeah I did a full factory reset thrice . I was even having the problem where most of my calls I would make would beep once then disconnect and the phone would go to the lock screen.

My issue that I experienced ever since I flashed the ATT official JB update was that I could send texts and use data and everything, but my contacts would go missing, I couldn't receive text messages and since my contacts would go missing the people in my messaging app would show their number and not their name. I would restart my phone and it would work for a little bit and then would go back out again.
I also switched from the LoserRom which is when I first started experiencing this. I don't think it's ROM related as far as what the developer is doing because I'm experiencing the same thing on ktoonsez AOKP rom.
I also thought it was modem related so I flashed my the LH1 to the CDLK3 Modem and was still experiencing issues. So I went to the CLI5 modem and it was still not receiving texts.
I started to think its my sim card. I turned my phone off took the sim card out and put it back in and powered my phone on. It seems to be working now.
Sorry for this kind of lengthy and out of order.
Please if you have any idea or have experienced this issue as well, please let me know.
Tried that and it still didn't work. Seems like more people are having data problems also.

Hi,
I got a serious question regarding the GPS for JB. I've tried many different roms, and the GPS works except for the JB ROMS.
I tried everything, but no luck yet. I've read that some people open up the phone, and tighten the GPS wire, but I would never do that.
I tried the flashing to stock then get GPS LOCK then flash the JB rom, but that didn't really work. Some people said it worked for them, but I have no idea how. I must be missing a lot.
Currently, I am using Paranoid Android latest rom, before I flashed that ROM I was using stock ICS, and "GPS" was working fine from the same location I am at right now.
I tried GPS Status toolbox, and other apps to delete the GPS Data, and download gps data, still no luck. I tested that under the sky, and still no luck. Is there something out there I could do ? I've been searching for a while, and had no luck.
Have you tried the gps fix here

You may want to give the new PACman ROM a spin. I had a lot of issues with my GPS on a lot of PA builds, however, with this ROM, it just seems to have disappeared. Sniper took over the project from KBizzle and is doing an amazing job with it. If you're not familiar with PACman, it is like a Frankenstein ROM comprised of parts of PA, AOKP, and a couple of others I can't remember now. Most of my issues have disappeared while on this ROM. I promise you it's a step in the right direction. Here's the thread in case you wanna check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050948

Actually the ROM is pretty good. I noticed though it needs some battery tweaking staff because battery is running out quicker than the usual !

Yeah, but for me it's still better battery than I got on PA.

Running fk23 stock jb and GPS has been on the money since day one, and battery usage comparable to gb.
When all else failes try running stock, you may like it better.
Pp.
sent from a jellybean filled epic touch.
Try this next time possibly..
I had the same problem running a JB rom. I did backup in CWM, restored my GB Original rom, ran my GPS app and got a fix and rebooted to CWM while my GPS was still running then restored my JB backup and the GPS locked perfectly with no issues after that. I did however just watch Tim's video and I would guess that doing a one-time restore to get your gps fix without actually going thru what I did, should work the same.
Just in case anyone else has the same issue, watch QBKing77s video on temporarily booting stock el29 about halfway down the page - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953783
