Hi guys,
I just have an issue caused by me. When I've opened the phone I've managed to damage one of the components and that cause my vibration motor is not working anymore unfortunately as it is a part of the circuit for it. I'm just about to change it but the problem is I don't know what is the value of that component as I couldn't measure it as it was damaged so much so it wasn't possible to do so.
I would like to ask if is here any1 who can tell me what is the value of that SMD 0402 capacitor ( value in F = farad) - ( see the picture )?
Only problem is if some1 want to check the value it is mean that the capacitor have to be unsolder at 1st to do so. So please, if is here some1 who can do that for me I would really appreciate
Or maybe some1 have the BOM (bill of material) and schemes of HTC One X ? that would help too.
Cheers guys
DAMN! i doubt many people would want to do that mate, bit risky opening it!
Actualy to open the phone is not risky and it is pretty easy.Only thing is to unsolder the cap ad than solder it back that may be tricky and that would need a good SMT experienced person.
I just hope we have some1 like that here (except me lol )

If you get a multimeter and see whether the capacitor is across the power rails if thats the case then more likely it would be a decoupling capacitor that decouples the inductive spikes from the motor when running. I would take a guess that it would be in the order of nanoFarads maybe 100nF.
Even if this component is open circuited that wouldnt stop the motor from working are you sure you haven't put excessive force on the capacitor and it has subsequently levered up the flexible pcb and open circuited a feed i.e. track)from the controller chip that feeds the motor?
For such small work I have a handheld microscope with an inbuilt lcd screen. makes life easier
you need to look more closely in that particular area if theres a minute tear on a corner or 90 degree bend of the flexible mylar pcb
I have checked that under 8x magnifier and I couldn't see any other damage other than that crushed capacitor so I guess it is only that. But to be sure I will check it once again and I look closer on the whole circuit and all the paths
I can't check it at home as I don't have any equip here so I hope I will have some free time at work tomorrow
But thanks fro info, it may help

so I've checked the whole circuit for vibration and I haven't found any other fault than that damaged capacitor.
So it have to caused only by this for sure.
So I hope some1 can help me as HTC get back to me they can only repair in their repair center and they will not provide any details about any parts and they can't sell any parts either.
So as usual no help at all from HTC, grrrr...
Their customer service is one of the worst
So no luck at all with HTC customer service as I expected

Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your
My name is Olga and I am a Technical Support Agent for the HTC Written Team.
I understand you are having problems with the vibration on your device and would like to know how much such component would cost.
I am very sorry this has happened and now you are having issues with your device, I have spoke to my supervisor about your query and can confirm that we do not have any rough prices of any of the components for our devices.
The reason for this is that we do not sell the components and use individual parts from different regions. The only thing we can do is book your handset in for repair with us. Please note that if you perform a repair yourself or use a 3rd party repair centre, your warranty with us would be void and in case the phone would need any future repairs, there will be a cost, even if it is a manufacturing fault.

Thank you for your email.
I am afraid we are not able to view online content, I can not view the links.
In regards to the components, we don't have any information regarding the components on our devices as this is something that is only available at the repair centre. Each device has a part number assigned, this lets the repair centre know which component and type exactly is needed for the repair.
I am sorry we are not able to provide further information regarding this as this is not something available for the public/customers. I have double checked this for you with my supervisor but I am afraid the only thing he advises is to have a look through the Internet for more information.

So now there is only hope left for me, some1 can find out that info for me
Have you a feed at the motor? Although if it sees the caps open circuit it may just stop the supply anyway.
That's a resistor isn't it? Not a cap.
I haven't tested the circuit with multimeter in any way but it is a capacitor for sure and not resistor.
SMD resistors have the metal contacts only from top-front-bottom side of the component
SMD capacitors have the metal contacts all way round
There are caps on that circuit, some are black and some grey color .
Only problem is that the caps don't have the value marked on the body as some resistors usually have, but normally bigger than 0402 package, so from 0603 and bigger as on the 0402 and 0201 would be really hard to read anyway

Might be worth getting a meter on it then, while setting it to permanently vibrate somehow.. Sure they're apps for that.
Unless your positive it is that cap, then id just pop it out and take a trip to maplins. I've soldered SM parts on phones before, it's fiddly but its possible. They were 50 quid Nokias mind, not 450 quid htcs. Fine iron, and don't get it to hot.
problem is I couldn't test it as the cap was cracked on half so no way to measure
There is no problem to solder/unsolder for me as I'm experience (work in Electronic manufacture business for some time )

If the SMD package is brown in color then it will be a capacitor. if black with no marking then may be a resistor or an inductor. if it is the latter then that would explain why the motor doesn't vibrate.

Surely you understand that HTC can and will not help customers with voiding the warranty of their phone? They support the devices as they are sold and if you decide to open and break the phone yourself you're basically on your own. Helping out with this issue would be to spend time and money to help a customer who has already agreed that no help will be given. Not to sound harsh, but you can't possibly expect any manufacturer to help out with such an issue?
Your best bet would be to contact a repair centre, not HTC. Regenersis, for example, might be able to tell you what component that is.
They only cost Like 50 p for that capacitor

Hi,
Did you manage to get your phone fixed, please give us an update mate.
well, not yet as I still haven't found what component is it.The HTC won't help as I posted before and I haven't found any1 who could.
But as someone mentioned here before that it may be a resistor instead of capacitor, so I've risk it and I just tried to shorten that pads and vibrator is working.
Problem is I still don't know what component should be there and I'm afraid that if I leave it with just a link between that may damage the whole circuit in time.
So it looks I have to live without vibration or send it for repair what I would have to pay for it.

My thread has been getting a lot of hits and HTC are monitoring it and possibly all my posts (I may be a little paranoid). Which I am grateful for as it is great to know that HTC are doing their best to fix the issue and I encourage them to follow my thread.
I will try forwarding this thread to Urban Strata (HTC Rep) and politely ask him if he can help. I will also try asking at HTC for you, I need to ring them next week on Tuesday anyway, maybe I can persuade them to help you, I did help make HTC aware of the WiFi issue and how many people where affected by it, maybe they can answer this thread to help us. I feel sorry for you mate and if I can do anything I will
Don't get your hopes up though and continue trying to find a solution yourself.
<EDIT> I've sent you a PM
Many One X owners, including me, has be having from display/screen issues that are quite annoying. And apparently, none has a definite answer as to what the main cause is. hTC has exchanged all those faulty devices, claiming it's a "hardware" issue...while in fact, it's their stupid back covers...i'll explain as we speak.
First, to know what screen/display problem i'm talking about, please refer to this Video.
Few days ago, i got my hands on a "Dead" One X...but i just refused that fact...because it just works! but no screen....screen is always blank....can touch it, go to dealer and make a phone call even. Sometimes the screen turned, sometimes, and it was like in the video, exactly like it.....so what's the problem?!
yesterday, i'll be honest, i got mad at this phone and held it with a tight grip...my finger happened to press just above something...and the screen turned on! worked great in fact! i was astonished! it just worked....but, oops, i turned off screen, then when wanting to turn it back on...blank...
I kept pushing on the back casing of the phone, trying to find the same place that made the screen turn back on...and viola, same place pressed on, screen back on.
Wanna know what's causing all of this?
Here you go:
Click me!
And those connectors Should be in good contact with this on the back cover
Click me too!
But you know, hTC ****ed this one up, just like it does on most devices with connectors on the back cover...*sigh*...like the sensation for example...
So what to do now?
i tried a bunch of things, and almost broke those connectors with a stupid thick aluminum foil on top of them...
also i tried bending them up, but that doesn't help either, as when the cover pushes them down, their shape will change and well...didn't work.
i also tried putting aluminum foil on the metal connectors on the actual cover...didn't help as well!
it seems only pushing on it from outside does the trick!!
i also tried pushing on the connectors together while the back casing is off, didn't work...as it seems there must be a triple connection...board, connectors, and cover...
I think the only solution would be with a new back casing? but...if hTC f****d it up with this one, wouldn't all back casing suck too?? or is this a manufacturing problem that the connectors are just short and won't connect well?!
here are pictures of how the phone turned on magically after pressing over that connector, and another of how the screen gets messed up when the, well, there's not a good connection...Thank you hTC!
Sample 1 Sample 2
Tomorrow i will buy a new back casing and report if that helped me or not.
I only came to this because i have no warranty...if you have warranty, please consider an exchange!
Oh, and finally, i was able to get into bootloader, first time i saw that screen! always has been blank!...pushing on the connector also did the trick.
Finally!
Soooo...comments?
If anyone has an idea on how to make the back casing come in better contact with those connectors, please let me know.
UPDATE
Hmm, why did you put this into Q&A?
what? in a bad mood and wanna bash me?

Well nah, would post it into General , as this was more like a guide. I wasn't bashing.. and not in a bad mood... If anything I bumped your thread up...
Also wanted to say that those contacts and that case seems to be f..cked up in general. As next to those you have the WIFI ones which in another thread, thats in General is shown how to fix...
My first comment was a compliment and you could clearly see I was smiling as I am on my avatar smiling. No reason to get defensive...

Soldering would fix this!
putting two round solders on the gold plates of the back cover. i will try that tomorrow. but i fear they would squash the connectors on the board? as that's what happened when i used two tiny balls of aluminum foil....one connector got squashed by it and i had to push it back up and play with it to make it look normal again.....hmmmm

waw another fellow citizen
so before we go ahead and go
doooom gloooom htcccc suxxxxxxx
lets first affirm tons of people have no problems with their wifi and their screens
so yes those connectors issues whether screen or wifi are another forum of a manufacturing defect, things might not be perfectly aligned and hence the issue
the flickering issue your thread title suggests finding the source of, isnt related to this, 90% of the corruption we saw out of box on the HOX turned out to be software including the back-light flicker which HTC fixed by readjusting the LCD voltage
moving on to your question a new back cover might very well fix it unless the misalignment is on the board
but im wondering why is this pin related to the screen to begin with? the Sensation didn't have such a pin you could remove the back cover and the screen kept operating, also the disassemble photos that were posted for the HOX showed the board and screen running perfectly without the back cover
as for the stupid copper foil, make sure you don't loose it unless you are planning to make a bomb its added to distribute Tegra3 heat

Before you do that, please check the WIFI thread. There was already one member that described that soldering or adding a wire might be possibly harmful in the long run.
Changing the electricity stuff, how its called, the resistance or something (for the antenna though)
I'm having the same damn issue (check the picture) and thanks to Arabology for the well explanation on the problem. what I did was to send my phone to the service center and they told me it will take 3 working days (today was just the 1st day) for the technician to diagnose the fault and decide whether to replace the device or to repair it.
given that its a well known defect - should I just demand an exchange for a new device just incase if they revert that they repaired my phone? because I am sure the chances for the problem to reoccur is high.
Also just so you know I purchased this phone only about 3 months ago in HTC roadshow launch of OneX in Malaysia. HTC needs to come out with really quality products otherwise they will loose all their customers to samsung & apple (I believe they already lost major % of their loyal customers to their rivals)
oh well hope to get a good news soon. will keep u guys posted.
Update:
well, My One X is just cursed, few days ago it feel off my hand and the screen got cracked. now i'm waiting for my local repair station to get hold of a One X digitizer.
ALSO, HUGE NEWS, seems i was wrong. it's not the connectors. it's the whole part where there is a copper kinda sheath over it...i guess that's where are the cores are plus the Nvidia Tegra chip??! turned out, when i push there, that the screen lights up. at first i thought it's the connector, coz that's the most reasonable right?
what could be wrong under that? well, that place can be taken off, there's a metal housing that can be lifted off....idk, nothing seems wrong there...but seriously, just a slight push lights up the screen! so now i'm using the oldest trick in the book, i put a wrapped paper at the back of the casing, just where it will push over the place i talked about, and now screen is always on....just this small push does the job!! no more flickering!
i repeat, it's not the connector nor the back casing.......only God and hTC knows what's going on...
i did further investigations and tried to relate the "push" to any connections that could be on the board from the other side, but after disassembling the phone, there does't seem to be anything on the other side of the board that needs that certain force to help the screen to light up....idk, this just boggles the mind.
...anyone has any clue?!?
BTW, phone is working great even with the cracked screen, playing Dark Meadow just fine

i say you should demand an exchange. hopefully the device they'll give will be of a different tier of products that doesn't have that silly, unknown problem.
also, i'm pretty well sure that they won't repair your device. as i read many users regarding this issue, all of them got an exchange......seems pretty messed up. and i doubt my paper trick will hold long before this issue comes back

now that i have a paper inside my back casing, i can see that my WIFI connection is not at it's best, because of the extra space it took. so i'll most probably solder all the connectors

there was some guy, who posted a youtube video of when he pushed a certain area of his screen (the front part), it would switch off!
It only did it when pushed in that area, it was literally like a second power button.
Sorry I don't know exactly what it was, just the fact that somebody else had a similar problem!
HTC repaired my phone as the screen was faulty, it had a yellow tint, when i sent it for repair it did have screen flickering, ever since its come back, with a new screen, i rooted it and also put in the NEW ARHD rom, 2.05.2 base or something, it has stopped flickering :fingers-crossed:

Finally found someone with the exact same problem. I haven't been able to use my hox properly for weeks. Think I need to be sending back to HTC
Sent from my X10i using XDA
Finally I've got my OneX replaced with a new unit. Hoping this will not have any sort of hardware faulty anymore.
interestingly. while waiting for my turn in the service center, I was just talking to a guy sitting and waiting beside me who came to report a problem with his OneX
and apparently its his 4th time visit to the service center. And all his previous 3 visits ended up with his OneX getting replaced each time....and each time with a different hardware issue (screen flickering / dead pixels / color faulty). Oh man....I thought the OneX was the best quality product from HTC.
and now I'm having a slight regret that I shud have just waited for another 2 more months and bought the SIII instead. God knows what other problems my OneX is going to come up with.

Probably what's referred to as a dry joint or some other connection not connecting very well, not uncommon in electronics.
You need to get it repaired or replaced, simple as that. If it is a dry joint under one of the chips that use a ball grid array of solder points, you will never be able to sort that out yourself and it would be scrapped more than likely rather than a repair attempted for such a fault. To repair, it would need to go into a special over to heat it enough to melt the solder under the chip. Exerting pressure will just eventually make things worse as you can end up fracturing more of the soldered connections as there is little give to resist flexing.
Regards
Phil
so, just wondering if anyone has took their desire apart? im not scared to do it particularly as im a PC technician, and take laptops to pieces quite often, and cant imagine it being harder, just smaller, but just wondering if anyone has done it?
my camera stopped working a few months back, no camera, no led, no matter what ROM i use. a logcat reports that it attempts to start the camera, but it doesnt respond, so im thinking something may be loose? if thats possible?
If you've ever disassembled HP laptop it would be easy as cake for you. It might be an issue with connectors because led is not working also, but you can always order a new cam since it's not that expensive.

Hello!
I just finish to "unglued" my digitizer cable on my note 2 ,
Please, just take a look at the picture, maybe can I do something to put it back.
Look like unglued..have you any idea if that flex cable it's glued or soldered ?
Thank you very much.
Wow.. I just did the exact same thing yesterday.. same spot on the cable and everything. I did it when I was replacing the glass.. I've tried taping it back.. and now I've tried gluing it , the touch kinda works but really inconsistent and annoying. I've spent way too much time trying to fix it and think I'm just gonna sell as parts now. What did you end up doing? Any luck getting it reattached? If you were successful please let me know what you did.

For me, was no way to put back this flex cable... and I think its close to impossible to make something good with this display.
I just stored that display ....for don't throw it.
Good luck!
this is a usual ribbon cable. i teared mine replacing the screen... will try to replace it and report back.
maybe it will require light smd oven soldering and that will suck big time. maybe i can just pressure it down somehow. your cases are much better, you still have the original cable and half of it is already soldered making it much easier to solder the rest.

thats not the same part, the part u listed on ebay is for the stylus. U can easily tell its not the same part as shown in the original post. Check out this youtube video at the 20:50 minute mark, it will show u the exact parts and u can tell. Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxgZeb5QytM
Unfortunatly the part the original poster pictured is part of the digitizer and is near impossible to fix once ripped. all ive been able to find online is that ribbon cable being sold with the digitizer itself. If anyone else actually finds the part shown in the original post please do post back.
